He slides the bathroom curtain open. "What are you doing?"
"Eating in the tub," I say, licking my orange cheesy fingers.
He sits on the toilet. "Why?"
"I'm mad at you."
"Let's forget about what happened last night."
"I don't want to forget."
"Look, It's the afternoon. Let's go do something fun off my bucket list."
"I'm not in the mood. I want to eat my sadness away."
"Please... I miss you, and it hasn't been a day."
I set my bag of chips down and sit up. "Tell me what the kissing was? What did it mean to you? Because it meant the world to me. Or was us kissing for you to use me."
"Can I speak now?"
I cross my arms. "Go ahead."
"It's not like I don't love you because I profoundly love you. I love how you make this scary laugh and pig sounds when you laugh. I love your spirit and the way you treat people. The way you make someone feel wanted, and there is no sign of meanness in you. Importantly I love the way you make me feel. But right now, we can't be together due to the laws. But one day, love..."
I spring out of the tub, and sit on his lap, kissing him. "Okay, no sex. Just kissing... and a little touching. Deal?" I say, staring into his eyes.
He smiles. "Deal. No sex." He takes his finger up to my chin and raises my head. "Our secret."
I lick my lips. "Our secret."
He suddenly lifts me over his shoulder. "Bucket list time!"
I giggled all the way to the dining room. "Let's go on the road trip that will lead us to a campsite."
"Good idea. 2 checks in 1 trip."
We carry out our bags to his car. It's sunny out. In Michigan, the weather is bipolar. Here is the sunshine, shining onto the pavement, and next it's snowing.
For the road I packed, snacks, Uno cards, a map, chargers, blankets, pillows, and other necessities. For the campsite, I packed two sleeping bags, flashlights, bug spray, fire supplies, and other things to make a camping trip amazing. Before leaving, we made sure to lock up the house good.
"LUCAS!"
He stops the car in the middle of the road, almost causing an accident. "Bella! What's wrong?"
"We forgot S'More supplies!"
He takes a breath. "Don't do that! You scared me."
"Sorry..."
He starts to drive back onto the road. "We can stop at a store on the way."
"Yay."
We are on our way to the campsite Camp KOA. They have a lake, putt-putt golf, and other activities. I check my phone. We are almost there.
Lucas opens his slim jim with his both hands off the wheel. "You never judged my flower from yesterday."
"I liked it. Though you never got to finish it, so you will have to finish it one day."
"Yes. Uh, let's stop at a store real quick." He says, pulling into a gas station.
"Does a gas station even have S'More supplies?"
"We will see." He says, parking the car.
Luckily they had S'More supplies. If they didn't, then I will whine until I find some. Smores are one of my favorite camping foods. We arrive at the camp. We signed in and got our plot of land. We are ready to set up the tent. We unload our luggage from the car.
"Do you know how to build a tent?" I say, holding up random metal bars.
"Give me those!" He says, laughing. "And yes, I do."
"Well, I don't.... so I'm slowly going to walk away..."
He chuckles. "You do that."
I walk around, exploring the campsite. There is a gift shop, arcade, craft section, and bike renting. I walk over to bikes. I felt in the need to rent one, so I did. I rented a trail mate banana peel bike. I rode it back to the site.
He gets up from the dirty ground, wiping his hands on his shorts.
"What the hell, did Miss. Campbell do this time." He says, walking over to me and laughing.
"It's a banana bike."
"Having fun on it?" He says, asking me.
"Yes! You should give it a try."
"Later on, I will. I need to rest. I just finished putting up the tent."
I look over to the finished tent. "Looks wonderful! I would have made it look like a pile of trash."
"I will teach you."
I snorted. "Haha, no thank you."
"Then let's get the fire started and prepare our food."
"I will do it. Go get solid food from the store."
"You sure?" He says, questioning me.
"Yes, Lucas, I'm sure."
Lucas left with the car to go get something to cook with our fire. I know the perfect way to get it started. I went on the search for wood and sticks. I found loads. I shove the wood in the fire pit. I scattered the lighter fluid everywhere. Lighter time! I made sure I got the long lighter. I carefully took a log with lighter fluid at the end and sparked it. I threw it back in the pit. I went to my foldable chair and relaxed, admiring my hard work.
Lucas opens his car door and carries two bags over. "I'm amazed. Good job."
"You didn't think I could do it?"
"Ha...ha...no..."
"Wow..." I say, crossing my arms.
"Your hands and arms must be tired."
"My hands?"
"Yeah, your hands. It takes hard work to start the fire. You did use your hands right?"
"Totally!" I say, kicking the lighter fluid away from me.
He walks over to me and lifts his eyebrow. "Do you want to tell me something."
"No..."
He bends over behind me and picks up the lighter fluid. "Huh, how did this get here."
"Must have fallen from the sky."
He squints. "You may be right."
"What did you get to eat?" I say, getting up from the foldable chair."
"Hamburgers and hot dogs."
"Yum. Let's get cooking."
We cooked the food over the fire. There is a piece of metal that goes over it, so our pans don't fall in. I cooked the hamburgers, and he cooked the hot dogs. He bought potato salad to go on the side.
He sets the hotdog plate on the wooden, crusty table. "Looks delicious!"
"I set out all of the condiments, so we are ready to dig in."
"Awesome!" He says, sitting down on the bench.
We clean up our cooking mess. We stuff everything in a cooler.
"Can we walk down to the lake?" I say, shutting the top of the cooler.
"Of course." He checks his watch. "We still have time to go swimming. Nightfall will be here in an hour or two."
"Um... Why not!"
"I will stand out of the tent so you can get changed."
I grab my backpack. "Thanks," I say, walking into the tent and zipping it up. I walk out in my white top with small pink flowers. I love the green on here. The bottoms are this light pink.
"Another new swimsuit?"
"I have a lot. Swimming is one of my hobbies."
"I see. I'm going to go get on my same pair from last we went swimming." He says, walking into the tent.
"At the gift shop, they have swimsuits, and I'm buying you a new one."
"I'm a good Bell. I like my bathing suit." He says, raising his voice from in the tent.
"I'm not taking no for an answer."
He opens the tent. "Okay."
We walk on the rocky dirt paths to the lake.
I saw a sign with the swimming hours. "Dang it's closed," I say, bummed out.
"Let's go to the gift shop and buy me that suit you wanted. We will go swimming tomorrow."
"Really," I say, gripping onto his waist.
He chuckles. "Yeah."
We walk back to our site from the gift shop. I swing the bag back and forth in enjoyment.
"Let me see it on you," I say, biting my lip.
"Mm okay."
He comes out of the tent in his new swim trunks. It's the American flag.
"Hot. I will need to go back and get a two-piece suit to match you."
He kisses me on my forehead. "I would love that."
"Let's go get into our comfy clothes and lay down to watch Netflix."
"Wasn't this suppose to be our mega camping trip."
"Little Netflix won't hurt," I say, smiling.
I get into Lucas's black sweatshirt. We snuggle together in our sleeping bags.
"I lied. The lighter fluid didn't fall from the sky."
He cracks a laugh. "I know."
"Oh, good. For a minute I thought you were being stupid."
"I thought you were serious." He says, cracking out another laugh.
"Haha, no," I say, giggling.
"Ready for Netflix?"
"Yes," I say, curling up close to him. I sit up. "Wait we forgot to make smores."
"Let's make them tomorrow."
I lay back down. "Okay."
