((Hello! Welcome to my first danganronpa fanfiction. I accept critique with open arms, and would love feedback. I will try my best to keep Y/N androgynous. However, they may be a bit fem presenting in style. Everyone in this fic is of legal age. I've changed the highschool into a college to further this fact. I hope you enjoy the fic!))
You opened your mailbox, carefully taking out the contents inside. Your eyes widen, as you see a letter from the prestigious Hope's Peak, in which you had applied to a few weeks prior. Excitedly you race to your door ,bare footed, freshly dawn, and still in your pajamas. You nearly slam the door once you get inside. Your hands tremble as you hold the sacred envelope with the red wax sealing. Your excitement churns within your body turning into waves of anxiety and dread. Taking a deep breath, you break the envelope's seal.
Unfolding the letter you begin to read, your eyes methodically scanning every word.
"Congratulations! You Y/N L/N have been admitted into Hope's Peak under your scholarship application. You will be attending this 2010 semester. As the Ultimate Accountant, we would like to commend you personally on your many achievements, and we are honored that you have chosen Hope's Peak as your future."
"Yes!!" You yelled out excitedly to yourself, falling back on your couch, clutching the letter to your chest. As a measly accountant, you never thought you'd get this far. Now knowing for certain you were in, you re-opened the now, slightly crinkled, letter. Skimming over a few paragraphs, you read once more.
"We have scheduled you to start 11/25/10 10AM. We look forward to seeing you!"
That was only a few months away. So close already to starting a new life, a new chapter! Couldn't help but feel a sinking feeling, leaving everyone, and everything behind. You stare at the ceiling of your apartment folding the letter; you crudely set it on the coffee table.
I should probably get up. You thought staring at your pajamas and bare feet, which were still wet from the dew on the grass. Begrudgingly you take your own incentive and get up. No Hope's Peak student would slump on the couch wastefully! You marched to your cramped apartment bathroom with new-found determined vigor.
A determination for a new beginning, new hope! Little do you know of what is truly in store.

Time has passed, and the day has arrived. The day in which you go to Hope's Peak! Strolling down the sidewalk you make sure your outfit is picture perfect. A nice formal button up, the school's jacket, white knee high socks, and black flats.
Nobody else seemed to be around, which was quite peculiar as it was later into the morning. Not a single other classmate in sight!
Well, maybe they're all already inside? You think to yourself. Or, oh! What if I'm late!? You begin to panic! You started booking it down the sidewalk. Now you are beginning to think that eating such a large breakfast was a bad idea, as the remnants of this morning demanded vengeance.
Despite an upset tummy, you still made it to your destination without any casualties. You looked at your phone. "10:00?? How the hell is it…" Looking around once more, the sinking feeling crept into the pits of your already upset stomach. You once saw the gates of Hope's Peak like the pearly gates of heaven, but now? Due to the ever-growing silent ambiance, it's beginning to look more like the gates of eternal damnation. Either way you persisted. One foot after the other you made your way onto the grounds of the college. They must all be inside already. You convinced yourself, growing ever so closer.
You pushed on the silvery, glass, curtained doors. A bellowing creak echoed throughout. "It's 10:00 why's no-one here?" you stated to yourself. The lights were off too.Yet once the echoing stopped, silence was your only company. Maybe, maybe I just got the dates wrong? You begged for any sort of answer, pulling out your phone, scrambling through your calendar. No, you put it in correctly.
The doors slowly shut. Morning light now flickering through the curtains like a dying flame. Despite your better judgment, you advanced through the halls trepidatiously. A metallic, grinding noise captured your attention once halfway down. Startled by the abrupt contrast, you'd turn. Once turned, the world seemed to turn with you. Whirling around like a black hole, sucking your consciousness into its dark, velvety, abyss.
And with that you hit the floor.
