Wolf Attack

"Here is the form, Lucian."

Ddraig said as he handed me a paper form.

"What's this?"

"Registration. Start filling it out."

He said as he gave me a fountain pen. As I reached for it, he'd retracted his arms.

"Hmm?"

"Do you know how to write?"

He asked me.

"Of course I do."

"Ok, just making sure."

"You know how to write, Lucy?"

"It's Lucian!"

We were in the capital building of Vritra's fortress. This place was where people register for trading licenses to become traders and also for a job.

Hmm, that reminds me, my class is empty.

[Class: None...]

The system spoke. Thank you for reminding me. I'm going to need a class soon, what classes are there?

My status window appeared in front of me and just like stats, there was an exclamation mark next to the class. Then the system spoke to me.

[There are 5 classes: Fighter, Ranger, Rogue, Magician, and Cleric. You will be able to choose a class when you reach prestige 1.]

Prestige?

Next to my level stat, there was a new attribute next to it.

I see, so I have to prestige in order to get a class. Well, first I'm going to have to raise my level up to 10.

"Lucian."

Ddraig would snap me out of my thoughts.

"Huh?"

"Are you going to sign it?"

"Oh, yeah."

"Good, then I'll help Mizuki now. If you don't understand anything then just call for me."

"Understood."

Ddraig sat down beside Mizuki and started helping her.

I looked at the form. Starting from the top left, I needed to write my name, surname first, then my given name.

Caelum... Lucian... there we go.

Ok, next was my birthday, which is the 16th day of the 3rd month. After that was my gender, race, birthplace, and some unimportant parts.

After I finished, I handed in my registration form. The clerk took my form and handed it to another clerk. Then he took out a mirror.

"Look into this now."

This mirror looked like every other handheld mirror. I looked into it and then it emitted a small glow. After that, the clerk that took my form handed a card to me.

"Here you go."

I took the card; it was my ID. It had my name, birthday, birthplace, gender, race, and even my picture. But they never took my picture, they don't even have a camera. Maybe it was that mirror, I don't know how it did it but it did it.

I walked over to Ddraig, who was handing in Mizuki's form.

"Hey Ddraig, I got my ID."

"Good, just wait for a while, and then we'll go to the library."

"Mhm."

I was carrying the 2 books that I needed. Now I can get back to making that sheet.

As I read through the tree chapter of the encyclopedia, I learned that Hydratykes can be used for building as they are one of the toughest timber out there. That also means that it'll be pretty hard to break. Luckily, Hydratykes will break off their branches every single month so I don't have to do any work. Only thing I have to worry about is the weight.

I placed the books on the ground since they were pretty heavy. I think I should start working on my strength stat cause then I can hold stuff easier.

"Hmm? What's wrong, Lucian?"

"Huh? Oh, I was just resting, these books are pretty heavy."

Mizuki walked over to me and picked up the books.

"Don't worry, I can hold it for you."

"S-sure."

Damn, I was planning on holding it myself, but I'm exhausted. I really need to work on my strength stat.

I know! I'll lift some medium-size rocks and use them like weights! That'll definitely raise my strength stat.

We arrived back at my little den.

"So Lucian, what will you do now?"

"Hmm, maybe go collect some Hydratyke branches from the Okapi forest. In the book, it said that they are pretty durable."

"I see. Should I send someone to accompany you?"

"I guess."

I'm going to have to strengthen my stats, but for now, I should have someone escort me.

"Then I'll send Divinus."

"Why am I going?"

Yeah, why is he going? From what I've seen, he had a pretty arrogant attitude.

"Cmon now, you 2 need to make up. Well, mostly you Divinus."

"Fine."

Divinus scoffed and walked up the road. Then he turned his attention to me.

"Let's go."

We were wandering around in the forest; I was picking up some small Hydratyke branches. Turns out they are lighter than I thought they would be, heavier than supple timber but lighter than my luggage.

"Whew, this should be enough."

"Great, now let's get going."

Divinus said in a grouchy tone. What's his problem? I didn't know an 'Angelic dragon' would have this attitude. If so, it should be Ddraig that's having this attitude.

"Why are you like this, Mr. Divinus?"

Divinus stopped in his tracks. He slowly turned around, glaring at me. As he slowly approached me, I could sense a hostile aura leaking from him.

Then he held my arms.

"That's because my niece likes you more than me!!!"

...huh?!

Did he just say what I thought he said? He's only acting like this because of Mizuki's affection for me? It's not like I forced her to do it or anything.

"That's the dumbest reason to hate someone for!!!"

"How did you even get her to like you?! It took me 3 years to get her to like me, she was almost at the level to even hug me, but then you come in! You...you...when did you arrive here?!"

"An hour ago."

"An hour ago! How did you even attract her attention in an hour?!"

"Well, how should I know? Don't get so jealous now."

"Yo-"

Snap!

A stick snapped. Divinus drifted his attention away from me and looked around, sniffing the air.

"W-what is it?"

Grrrrrrr...

I heard a growl emit from the bushes behind me. What was that? It sounded like a wolf.

Then Divinus brought me closer to him.

"Stay close to me."

Divinus then pulled out a sword out of nowhere.

"Whoa..."

He pulled it out from something in the air. Is this what they call spatial storage?

Bark-bark!

Then these wolves hopped out of the bushes, surrounding me and Divinus. There were 4 of them. They had crimson fur and spikes on their tails.

"Crimson barbed wolves. Try to avoid the tails, they can cut through Hydratyke wood with ease."

Well, that's not something I want to hear. To think that I would be attacked by wolves on my first day in Vritra, I wonder what's going to happen in the future.

Another one? But I didn't do anything.

HUD? Wait, is my health, mana and stamina going to be displayed? Cause if so, then yes.

I selected yes. Then a red health bar appeared in my vision, along with my mana which was blue and stamina which was green.

I looked at the crimson barbed wolves, a number displayed above their head.

It said, in yellow letters.

Level 8?! These wolves are on a much higher level than me?!

Damn, I really need to train now. I haven't gotten a single training lesson yet.

Knowing this, I continued to cower behind Divinus.

Then one of the wolves launched itself at Divinus, swinging its tail sideways.

Clang!

It's tail collided with Divinus's sword. Divinus then grabbed the wolf by its neck and crushed it.

Splat!

Blood splattered everywhere. Jeez, Divinus, that was brutal.

The other 3 wolves backed up, looking at each other.

Then there was another growl, this time it was deeper and louder.

GRRRRRRRRR...

Then a larger wolf, 3 times the size of a regular wolf, stepped out of the bushes.

Its name wasn't yellow this time, it was red.

A question mark? What do you mean question mark?

Then the system spoke to me.

[If a monster has a question mark instead of a number, it is prestige 1. The more question marks there are, the higher prestige it is. If the subject has a ♾ symbol, it is impossible for you to face.]

Well, that's good to know.

Thud!

Every step it took shook the ground.

"Jeez, they really don't know their place."

Divinus said as dashed towards the larger wolf. The wolf roared and then spat out a fireball.

Foosh!

"Watch out Mr. Divinus!"

The huge fireball engulfed Divinus' entire body.

Boom!

Smoke was spreading everywhere. Damn these wolves don't have any prudence about their surroundings, do they? That fireball could've burned this forest to the ground.

Wait, what happened to Divinus?!

Tap-tap-tap-tap~

Divinus' emerged from the smoke and dashed at the alpha.

Shing!

His sword easily went through the alpha's neck, which slowly slid off. The alpha crumbled onto the ground, laying there dead.

This made the 3 wolves whimper, and they scurried away.

Yelp!

Divinus in a flash snatched onto one of the wolves by the tail. The barbed end of the tail had no effect on Divinus.

Impressive...

The Divinus slowly walked towards me, then pulled a knife out of his spatial storage and threw it in front of me.

"Use it."

Huh?

"You're telling me to use it?"

"To kill this little scavenger. Or are you too scared?"

The wolf was struggling to escape. Its tail may be its weapon, but it is also their weakness.

Shoot, I kind of feel bad for it, but it did try to attack me first. Also, I think I can level up from this.

I picked up the knife. Divinus slammed the wolf into the ground and pinned it by its head.

"Stab it in the skull, it means instant death."

The wolf didn't have a health bar above it. All monsters in RPG games usually have a health bar. But maybe it's just me that has it.

The wolf was growling and whimpering at the same time. I don't know if it was mad or scared, maybe both.

It's ok buddy, I'll make this quick.

And so, without hesitation, I drove the end of the knife through the wolf's head.

Yelp!

It twitched a few, then it went limp.

Wait, so if the system can have an encyclopedia for the animals I've killed, what about the plants? Well, that's not really important since I'm not going to be working with any other wood.

I also got a title, wolf slayer.

Of course I want to equip it! It should have a good effect, I hope.

WHOA! DOUBLED?!

That's like a critical hit. So if I was facing against a wolf, my strength stat would double from 20, well it's 25 now, to 50.

Next time I see another wolf, I'm gonna give them a beat down. Maybe.

"Good, now that you've killed your first monster, it's time to head back, don't you want to finish that dumb cover of yours?"

"Hey don't call it dumb!"

Divinus smirked and walked away.

I picked up my sticks and followed him. Jeez, Divinus gives me the shivers.

Why?

Well, my HUD is still active. And I could his name above him, along with his level, in gold letters.
