Black Wyvern

Two days after arriving back at the guild, everyone was gathered up and the guild master was standing on the balcony, looking down. Wonder what's happening now?

"As you all know, there has been news of a wild wyvern that had attacked a nearby village and is currently heading this way."

If I recall, a wyvern is a dragon, right? The only difference is that a wyvern's arm is fused in with their wings.

"For the safety of Crossfield, I want a team to intercept the wyvern before it shows up! Who is willing to take part?!"

Mostly everyone shifted uncomfortably and looked away. Jeez, a bunch of wimps, is a wyvern even that scary?

I raised my hand up, and everybody turned towards me with shocked faces. Huh? Did I do something wrong?

"N-Noctem, are you sure?"

The guildmaster spoke in a worried tone. Wha-, even the guildmaster? Seriously, what could go wrong?

Next to me, the girls and Kage lifted their hands. That shocked everyone even more.

"They are only C-ranks, right?"

"Can they really defeat a wyvern?"

"Have they even seen the size of that thing?"

I tilted my head as they all chattered. The guildmaster cleared his throat and silence took place.

"Is there anyone else that wants to go?"

Nobody spoke a word or even moved. Then a man raised his hand. It was the A-rank, Nigel Cranston. Now people should stop worrying, we have a high-ranking member participating now. Then a few more hands rose. Oh, so now they want to participate.

"Is that all?"

No more hands were raised and the guildmaster nodded with a worried expression.

"Alright then, get prepared, you will be leaving in a few minutes."

So, there were some benefits for doing this. Those that are D and C ranks will have their ranks raised while the others will be given money. Though that didn't sound much, they were fine with it.

According to the guildmaster, the wyvern was last heard to be coming from the south. So we were in the air, flying with our pegasi, searching for the wyvern.

Suddenly, Midnight neighed and began to stumble in the air.

"Whoa now, what's wrong?"

Then the air suddenly felt weird. There was something huge heading our way. I looked around the skies for a second, but there were just clouds and blue skies. That was until I saw a black figure flying straight towards us.

"It's here!!!"

Nigel yelled, and he flew straight towards the wyvern. Then he lowered his altitude, and the wyvern followed him. Great idea! Leading the wyvern onto ground level so we can fight it. It's better to fight on the ground than fight in the air.

"Black Lightning Slash!"

As we lowered our altitude, Nigel was already fighting with the wyvern. Nigel used a special form of lightning magic called black lightning. From what I heard, it increases the potential of the attack, but it is really tiring to use.

"Gaaaaaaaaaao!!!"

The wyvern cried as the lightning hit the side of its face. It spun around and smacked Nigel away with its tail.

"Oof!"

He crashed into a tree, which collapsed on impact. The wyvern puffed out a cloud of smoke from its nostrils. It turned its attention towards us.

This thing was big, probably bigger than my centipedes. If I manage to kill this thing, maybe I can extract its soul and make it my own. Having a dragon as a summon would be pretty nice.

The dragon growled as it locked its eyes on us. Everyone drew their weapons out and prepared themselves. Mostly everyone ran head-on without a plan. How dumb can people be?

The wyvern smacked them away and deflected their attacks using its wings. It was hit with fire, lightning, water, wind, but it wasn't affected one bit. Could it be that it has magic resistant wings? Don't tell me it's completely magic proof. No, if I recall, it took damage when Nigel's black lightning hit its face. Its face is its weakness.

I turned around and told my plan to the girls and Kage. My plan was that I'd sneak behind the wyvern and attack him while they distract it. Everyone hesitated for a while, but they eventually agreed.

"I'll bring you over there."

Kage insisted. Well, it wouldn't be any harm for him to bring me there. Looking back to our first encounter, he used this sliding move that made him close our distance without fail.

The plan initiated and we separated from the girls. Luna used her brand new daggers and dashed towards the dragon. She performed several water spells, which got the wyvern's attention. On the other side, Aurora was also performing spells that attacked the wyvern, causing him to be attacked from both sides. Eve was doing her leaf thing where she just zips around the wyvern, causing him to sneeze. There were some close calls when she was almost burned but she's swift so she dodged them. Several people seemed to notice and decided to help out.

While they were doing that, Kage had used his sliding technique to get us behind the wyvern. Turns out it was a move he invented using dark magic. He called it shadow glide. He said it is an advanced move, and it took him a while to master it. Guess I won't be doing that anytime soon as my dark magic level is still at one. I should really start leveling up my skills.

Ignoring that, we successfully snuck behind the wyvern thanks to the diversion we setup. Now this was the part where I didn't plan further. We were now behind the wyvern, but in order to attack it from behind, we'd have to get over its body. It was guarding its head against the attacks, using its wings as a shield. From the back, we'd have to deal with its tail.

Kage gripped his blade and used shadow glide, bring me along. The tail was still, so we were able to creep up halfway up the tail. To my surprise, the wyvern didn't notice until my coat tail accidentally brushed its spine.

"Gra?"

The wyvern looked over its body and spotted us.

"Oh sh*t."

"Gaaaaaaaaaaao!!!"

The wyvern spread its large wings in surprise, the wind it made from its wings knocked everyone onto their butts. It was starting to flap its wings, rising.

I quickly equipped Ouroborus. The weapon flashed a bright light before it materialized. I'd then stop time.

Crack!

Tick-Tick-Tick~

The dragon was completely still. I quickly took grip of one of its protruding spikes. Then time resumed.

The dragon then lifted off towards the sky and began to move. I was tightly clasping onto the dragon's tail as it wildly twirled around in the air, trying to shake me off. Kage had fallen off earlier so I was doing this alone.

It kept twirling around and shaking its tail, trying to shake me off but I wouldn't let go. Good thing I've equipped Ouroboros. These things got a tight grip. Currently, I need a way to get closer without accidentally letting go. But avoiding all the fire it's spitting at me is kinda hard.

I performed another time stop and moved up its tail. I would count how long I am able to move. So when two seconds were up, I had to cling onto the dragon's tail tightly again.

After a few more time stops, I was able to reach where its wings were located. The dragon was busy twirling around, still trying to shake me off its tail.

I have performed seven time stops. If I perform one more, I'd have eight seconds which could get me up to its neck. That'll be perfect for me to strike. But as I was about to perform another time stop, the wyvern suddenly changed course. Now instead of twirling around in the air, it was spiraling down towards the ground.

I was caught off guard and my grip on the wyvern's spine let loose.

Clutch!

I was saved. I looked up and Ichigo was there, his hand on the wyvern's spine. He pulled me up while tightly gripping the protruding spike.

"Thank you."

"Pleasure."

The dragon was spiraling faster and faster towards the ground. Is it really trying to injure itself just so it could get me off? I need to get off fast.

Wait, I know what I can do! Just before the wyvern hits the ground, I can freeze time so I can jump off the wyvern before that happens.

Just have to time it right.

Then as soon as the wyvern was about to hit the ground, I ceased time to a halt.

Crack!

Tick-tick-tick~

I got off the wyvern and then I resumed time. I'm able to remotely resume time if I wanted to, even if the eight seconds weren't up. Though the amount of mana spent would still be the same.

Crash!

A huge cloud of smoke engulfed the area. Eventually, it cleared and the wyvern laid there, not making a single movement. Did it just die from the fall? That's a stupid way to die if you ask me. But I realized that the wyvern had several gashes on its head and neck. Where did these come from?

Chink!

I turned around and Ichigo had just sheathed his blade. So it was him? But I didn't even see him do it.

"How did you kill it?"

"With the use of Kage's technique."

Ahh, so he used shadow slide. Did he already master it? That's impressive.

Dragon Slayer huh? Classic, but it sounds way better than Beast Killer.

I looked over my shoulder and now the purple glow that Ichigo was once emitting was replaced with a rose and orchid color. Whoa, he kind of looks divine-like and he seems to be emitting a more powerful aura.

[Souls are nearby]

Indeed... my favorite part. Now I'm gonna get a dragon as a spectral. Hehe.

I looked ahead and above the wyvern's body was a purple orb emitting fiery particles. I extended my hands and it came flying towards me. Then it sank into my hand.

Another purple, it didn't really show any destructiveness, but maybe that was just me.I summoned the wyvern and when it materialized it let out a shrieking roar. It had purple glowing streaks all over its body and it looked like it had the same pattern on its underbelly, just like mine when I'm a demon.

Anyway, I should get too cleaning.

*A few minutes later...*

"What is this?"

Nigel said as he and everyone else was watching the scene going on in front of them. Oh yeah, I had summoned all of my spectrals(Except the samurai) to eat the wyvern's corpse. Turns out if they eat another course, they gain experience. Isn't that cool?

Everybody was glaring at the large, dark-cloaked wyvern. It looked at everyone else and there was drool dripping from its jaw.

"Hey! Manners!"

The wyvern snorted and looked away. Ichigo slowly unsheathed his Katana, making a violent ringing sound. The wyvern yelped and scooted away from Ichigo.

[Will you name this spectral "Manners"? (Y/N)]

No! What kinda name is that for a wyvern? It needs a cool name that suits it. But wait, what gender is this thing? I kinda didn't really pay attention.

[This spectral is "Male"]

Whew, that's a relief. To be honest, I'm not good with female names. So since I now know it's a male, I should give it a male name.

Hmm, it was called a black wyvern before Ichigo killed it if I'm right. It had jet black skin...

How about Jett? That means Jet black if I remember.

The dragon lifted its head and looked up at the sky with a prideful stance. Looks like it still has its pride kept.

I turned over to the spectrals that were devouring the wyvern's corpse. Some of them were brandishing new colors and the centipede that had leveled up before any of my spectrals was now clad in light. It still contained its color from when it evolved, but now it looked like it was covered in snow.

"Ok, that's enough eating, we're saving the bones."

They nodded and broke into dust particles. After they returned to me, I turned around to my guild members. They were all looking at me with astonished faces.

Oh... this is their first time witnessing my summons(Except Nigel). Kinda forgot to hide a bit of my power.

Oh well.
