I agree, the author already used this card to failure because it would be too overpowered once, I hope we don't see him use it again, the first time was frustrating but acceptable, the second time would be ridiculous, I hope he plans the story out better and doesn't use "easy outs" like this again. That said, excellent story and character, I hope you continue the good work author! One of the few stories I like (and I've read A LOT)

The author confirmed that fate does not exist or is a force of nature in this story, so his concern is unnecessary, it was just a joke to mock Rex. He said the reason why Rex didn't absorb his magic stone was because after absorbing it, he would max out his stats from level 2, level 3 and reach mid level 4 directly (remembering the boss is level 5) and he thinks it would be too fast and he says he wouldn't be able to write well if that was the case, and he thinks his abilities would break the rhythm of the story, with 'Wave Control' Rex wouldn't even need to fight, he would just command an army to kill monsters to he. and absorb his magic stones, and his phoenix-level 'Regeneration' would break any sense of danger and death that might exist. And let's be honest on a site where most of the fanfics are wish fulfillment or just pornographic material, seeing an author trying to write a good character and a good story is actually good, was it frustrating? Did it make you want to punch the author in the face? Yes, but you can't deny that it was interesting to say the least.
