The reason why he is emotional (in my opinion) is because while he is a battle-hardened veteran, the entire reason he fought throughout the past years is solely for the sake of survival. Add on to that the friends he gained, cared for, and then lost over the years, resulting in him not being too fond of the world he lived in. Hence why he sought out Xeroc to not only learn his purpose in Terraria, but also to find a way to leave the world, and his home world was the first thing that came to his mind as he still had lingering attachments to his family and home. Now, reading back on that part of the chapter, I realize that I didn't really focus on his relations with his family, so I do understand that it might have been too abrupt and out of place when he began to talk about them, and that is completely on me as I didn't think much about what his past would be like when I first started writing this fanfic.
