Normally there are only mentions, nothing more. As far as I know, they don't teach them in depth because, in regular writing, I doubt you or anyone uses them. And En and Em dashes aren't even on the Keyboard. You have to use the option of special characters from a separate software if you really want to use them in real writing. Thus, I doubt many use them, and even if they use them, not that frequently.
