That is SUPER broken. Let's say he has 100 guys with average stats of 10, and that they face 500 guys of average stats 20. That would mean they now have 10+50 average stats, and 500 is not that many people/monsters, even less so in a tower defence type battle.

True, magma (the hot rocky stuff inside the planet) becomes lava only after it gets to the surface and by doing so, expels most/all of the water and gases that were earlier dissolved in it. Yes, pressure can do that to stuff. Have enough of it and suddenly molten rock becomes the best solvant in town.

Geological fact: If you can see lava bubbling/flowing in the volcano, that means its lava is largely basic (pH) - read: has little silica. This is important, because only acidic or mixed/andesite - high to average silica - volcanos have violent eruptions with, as it was earlier implied, wide, sometimes continent spanning, consequences. My point is: either Vatuu lied about the severity of the situation or they see no lava. Violent eruptions happen if lava crystalizes faster than it can leave the caldera and creates a sort of seal on the volcano that will at some point fail... BOOM!!!! Otherwise, it just splashes around a bit.
