I see where you both are coming from but I also see the points made by most fanfics. Sure, everyone can make mistakes but his "mistakes" seem too well planned out to be a coincidence? There are many things that he does that don't make sense. So, I understand the whole Dark Lord Dumbledore theme. My MC won't be Dumbles enemy nor his friend.

No one knows, it is kind of a tradition in the magical world. If you watched the movies and read the books, you would remember that Ron didn't know either despite being a pureblood that had five older brothers that went through Hogwarts sorting.
