I don't know much about politics so take my opinion with a grain of salt but I still think non-alignment was the best decision India ever made. it helped us in picking no side during cold war era and play good with us and russia at a same time (which helped us get nuclear-related studies), but again as i said, I'm no expert its just my personal experience.
Nehru's economic policies had condemned India to decades of stagnation. His foreign policy — the famous "non-alignment" — had alienated potential allies while inviting Chinese aggression.
