That’s rather short sighted if you think about it if you knew your book was popular and had a very high chances of getting a tv or film you could handle the negotions urself with a lawyer with very low (5-10%) commision or urself if you are confident even if you don’t want to do that and want the random house to do it for you wait for the second book and then renegotiate it to 10-15% commision because at the end of the day the author owns the tv and film rights the publishing house only holds the books righta for publishing also this should only be done if you know ur book was going to be one of the best not favourable for bew authors but favourable for new authors who got isekaied to the past
