I saw that this story has romance, and I thought it would be an interesting idea if he got a tamer sub class that because of his necromancer class allowed him to contract anything he could make an undead. This way he could “contact” his loved ones to make sure they grow with him. If he got the tamer class he could also get healing/ holy or other beasts that you couldn’t have otherwise. Or it could just be a skill to get a familiar ever like 10 or so levels. Just a thought. This way he won’t leave his family behind and they won’t be in as much danger. Of course he should ask them first and explain the benefits at least partly. Sorry if this suggestion is rude or something you were already thinking of.

It could be explained or justified as when a baby animal with the potential to cultivate is born the spiritual energy crystallizes around it to nurture it or awaken its bloodline.
