Either grow or become, I do not think both can be used in 1 sentence like this
At this time, knowing that they had no way to escape, the wandering cultivators were all starting to grow become increasingly desperate as they felt the battle in front growing closer to them and the Soul Ascension Realm demon beasts observing them from behind preventing any escape from the approaching battle.

She's a demonic cultivator. I am 99% certain that during her time wandering the forest she was hunting beasts and monsters to absorb their essence forher own gain. It is faster than normal cultivation, but often less pure and prone to self destruction
