Voldemort was a gone cause but dumbes didn't know that he made a horcrux in school but, a wide breath of experience gave Felix a place and time to vent negative emotions and give him some closure. The experience of the outside world with an adult mindset gave Felix a steadiness that was needed for a professor. Dumbledore won the third time he bet on a person, that's for sure. Otherwise Grindelwald and voldemort were not a good example of Dumbledore's luck
