The answer is very spoiler-heavy though, so only read it if you don't mind spoilers! MASSIVE FUTURE SPOILERS: Beta testers are a special type of system user. For example, when the system becomes public, everyone will be normal system users, while beta testers will have, all the levels, knowledge, and powers they had gathered before everyone else got access to the system, which will give them a huge head start, as long as they don't become lazy after everyone gets a system, of course, hard work and determination could let non-beta system users catch up. But, the second thing that's different is beta testers will be involved in / have certain things that normal system users won't. Since they were chosen first. After that, the only thing that makes Matt special against other beta testers is circumstance. We are only following him because he is the one who "made it to the end" if that makes any sense. So looking at it as if the story has already concluded, we are watching his life story as the one who surpassed all. You could almost consider it an autobiography by Matt.
