I think about Nick's ability that it works as long as you can precisely perceive him. For example, if I knock behind a wall where you are laying against, you would know I am behind you. But if I were to make loud noise a couple of floors above you, you would hardly manage to find me and will instead focus on the noise itself.As for insects... Got no idea, i guess it would depend on whether the entity has a certain degree of sapience.
