Honestly I already wrote a review of this novel, but I can't find and delete it anymore so I'm just gonna write another one. The translation is really well done. Perfect grammar and very faithful to the original. Stability of updates was good until it was dropped, which isn't really the TL's fault anyway, but I'm salty. Story is slow af. I'm not kidding. Otherwise, it's not too bad. Characters are not too bad imo Tons of world details = well done world, slow story.
That's Park Jiho though...
Depends on what the sides are like; if they slope down to the edges like a triangular prism, 2 square meters ain't a lot. If they're vertical, it's still a bit hard to say it could "totally fit more than five people," since people tend to take up a lot of space once they're not standing. Anyhow, have a doggo sitting inside a square meter! ^^
"dumpling of the body" xD
I saw that this novel (从红月开始) was getting an animation on a Chinese website. Apparently Tencent announced that a bunch of novels' animation adaptations were in the works, including The First Order/第一序列 and World's Best Martial Artist/全球高武. I thought the name looked familiar. Who knew it'd already been dropped here lol What a waste, Webnovel probably could've earned quite a bit off of it but I guess they're too stuck in the trial reading process. So disappointed, this kind of genre is my favorite, too.
It's a good manhwa with awesome art and a story that makes really good use of tropes. Story isn't anything masterpiece-level, but it's got plenty of action and satisfying moments that are further highlighted by the art style. Characters are kind of like the story. They don't have much development (maybe nothing at all, even), but they do a good job complementing the MC. MC himself has a fairly edgy theme (OMG, it's a dude who has special abilities [trying not to spoil lol], uses double daggers/short swords, has glowing eyes, and is super OP!), but who am I kidding, I love that kind of stuff. What's not that great about this manhwa (bad things that carried over from the novel): the romance and the ending. Why? **Warning: There are some major spoilers below. I don't turn on the spoiler thing, because nobody ever takes it seriously.** I mean, the reason why the female lead likes him at first is because he...doesn't smell bad? Like, not because of the MC's character qualities, it was because of his smell? There isn't really a lot of romance development there. MC saving/subjugating Japan (lowkey anti-Japan?) annoys some. I could brush it over, but yeah, if you're a stickler for that kind of thing, it exists. And maybe the manhwa will change the ending from the novel? (probably not).
Uhh, late reply. I just meant that the MC here wasn't really perverted or loud and that nowadays a lot of novels have MCs that *are* perverted and loud. Sorry for the confusion ^^' As for the other one, yeah, magic cheat phone, I guess. I just assumed that the cheat feature was being able to grind dungeons and get infinite loot rather than a magic battle experience generator.
The first novel I've taken off points for Stability of Updates, author has gone on long hiatuses recently. A generally pretty good novel with a transmigrated/reincarnated FMC who's disguised as a guy, along with her cheat device which basically can let her put herself through torturous training for free, with some special characters thrown in. And *gasp* character development? Impossible! Seriously though, it's rare to find a CN where the MC's character isn't static. MC here really does grow and mature, and her motivation for power changes from her original resolution as well. Her torture training leaks into her character a bit as well, so MC basically becomes the ultimate military tiger mom later on. The sci-fi aspect of this novel makes very little sense, but I'm sure that's expected since pretty much no mecha novel has sci-fi harder than Star Wars, since mechas don't really work IRL. Warning: Romance is super duper late and also really slow. Have a cat, for no reason. I copied it from a review spammer :) ████░▀███████████████▀░██ ███▌▒▒░█████████████░▒▒▐█ ███░▒▒▒░███████████░▒▒▒░█ ██▌░▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒░▐ █▌░▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒░ █ ██▀▀▀██▄▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▄██▀▀▀██ █ █░░░▐█░▀█▒▒▒▒▒█▀░█▌░░░█ █ ▌░░░▐▄▌░▐▌▒▒▒▐▌░▐▄▌░░░▐ █ █░░░▐█▌░░▌▒▒▒▐░░▐█▌░░░█ █ ▒▀▄▄▄█▄▄▄▌░▄░▐▄▄▄█▄▄▄▀▒ ██▌░░░░░░░░░└┴┘░░░░░░░░░▐ ████▄▄░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░▄▄██ ██████████▒▒▒▒▒▒█████████ ███▀░░███▒▒░░▒░░▒▀███████ ███▒░███▒▒╖░░╥░░╓▒▐██████ ███▒░▀▀▀░░║░░║░░║░░██████ ████▄▄▄▄┴┴╚╧╧╝╧╧╝┴┴██████ █████████████████████████
It could have been better. I mean, same author as Super Gene, so an MC reliant on his cheat/strangely game-like and unbalanced power system in-world is a given. On the plus side, we have no annoying harem that the MC is pandering to like in Super Gene. MC is significantly less loud and perverted than the variety of CN MCs that are kind of common nowadays. There's a setting that's at least surface-level interesting: Dimensional zones where mythology and fantasy leak into real life, mysteries surrounding why they exist, how to get strong, etc. On the minus side, the MC's main character halo isn't even trying to hide. Other than the phone/game cheat that's the reason for the title, MC gains some other cheats that don't really have too much exposition. There's also a plot hole: unless that phone has a VR feature, playing mobile games does not improve combat ability. No matter how realistic it is... Other: The nationalism is really faint with this one, I don't see why people complain. Like, the districts aren't really defined in terms of real life countries, so which countries they are means taking hints like naming style, geography, and mythology of the local Dimensional Zones. MC, other than beating up people from other districts, also beats up people from his own, so I don't really see the problem. There are both allies and enemies from foreign districts, too. People saying MC is a doormat? No, he takes revenge properly, it's properly planned out and takes some time. And everyone who complained about it, despite bashing on how trash CN novels are, are too used to a typical CN shuangwen's usual pace and forgot that patience exists. Well, then again, people are paying per chapter here so at least it's kind of understandable, but couldn't you just consider the possibility? The pace is slower relative to other shuangwen, if what you count as pace is plot progression. But if you're talking about the MC's power leveling speed, I guess it's also slower, but I'm used to reading slower novels now so it looks pretty fast to me. Like a lot of shuangwen, it's kind of got no goal, other than the MC gaining power to survive or some vague-ish reason. If there was, I forgot because it isn't mentioned a lot.
A nice supernatural murder mystery. Well, actually, many murder mysteries chained together in one longer story, starring the MC, Chen-immune-to-fear-Ge, searching for his parents and promoting his family business, a very legit haunted house (as in, actually haunted, haha). Strictly speaking, it can be considered a system novel due to the presence of the phone, but system elements are well done.
Strictly speaking, it is stolen, since it's a translation and not an original. It wasn't translated by Webnovel's team either, and the "author" who posted it here deserves no credit other than merely posting other people's work. The translation that this "author" took is, however, unlicensed. The original work, 我家徒弟又挂了 by 尤前, was published by Qidian, Webnovel's parent (it has a drama and manhua now, BTW). Maybe one day it'll be translated here on Webnovel, but it's highly unlikely due to how well-known the fan translation by Scrya Translations is. BTW: Novelupdates is not just a forum for Webnovel's stories and, in fact, predates Webnovel. It also does not provide a downloading feature, but instead functions as a hub for asian novel translations (some of which are not licensed, but others are.). *** Wow, would you look at that. Me replying to a year-old comment...why did I even do this...
**This novel is plagiarized** Yooo...if it isn't Archfiend. This is a novel that's been on Wuxiaworld for a while, in fact, since November 2017. In case you didn't know, Wuxiaworld is also a licenced novel translation site like Webnovel (Qidian was once affiliated with them until they established Webnovel instead. You can google it, it's a long story. Wuxiaworld's novels are generally free until they're finished translating, after which you must unlock them like on webnovel). But anyhow, Wuxiaworld is a legitimate website and you can't go reposting their stuff and branding it as your original. Archfiend is, firstly, a chinese webnovel called "最强妖孽", written by 厄夜怪客 (translated as Hellsing), and it's completed at 1635 chapters. It's published by zongheng, and was licensed to Wuxiaworld. The translator there was XHP, although they stopped translating at chapter 517 for an unknown reason in August 2020. It's still up and readable for free, by the way.
