Yeah... but, the right thing to do (learned it the hard way) is to apologize and literally say " I know I was/did wrong about ...(say the fact)" and never explain useless it's in a conversation or if asked by the person. The reason is so they understand you really are sorry and is serious about never doing it again. Explaining can (even If you're sorry) can be seen as just giving a justification.
