I am not being defensive of anything but Ghislain indeed forced Piote to stay by back handedly threatening him about bandits and now he was trying to force him again by making him dead and not letting him return. Also, Piote was initially not doing this out of his own volition but more so coz he is given no choice by Ghislain. Just coz it is not on the nose, does not mean, it is not here. A lot of force is involved. Drawves and Elves cannot do anything coz they are enslaved and Claude and Alpoi are gamblers who are getting what they deserved. But Piote is neither enslaved nor gambling, but forced to work coz Ghislain is indirectly forcing him to stay and work

I am sure that it was mentioned in the earlier chapters that he was a brilliant war strategist, and in fact he was so brilliant that even Ghislain's enemy's scouted him. So, I am pretty sure administrative work is just a bonus, he actually wanted his genius in military strategy!

Did you miss out the part that he was getting affected by the dark energy of his? Did you miss out the part where he lost control leading to the dead of Jin Zixuan?? Did you miss out the part that he lost control "again" and that led to Yanli getting killed?? Have you just watched the series which "whitewashed" Wei Wuxia to the point that they even altered his death?? Did you know that in Chinese Censorship they cannot show a grey hero??
