It's been a while so I don't really remember the exact context, but I think I was saying something along the lines of "Just because he made the correct decision (to lie to her), you can't expect her to not feel angry or somewhat betrayed when her brother lied to her face". It's like when a parent grounds their kid for doing something wrong. Yes, it's the right thing to do, but you can't expect the kid to like the parent for it. From his perspective, he's lying to protect her, and honestly, I'd probably do the same in his shoes. From her perspective though, her brother is just lying to her, and being upset is a perfectly reasonable reaction to that.

Klein let out a breath of relief upon seeing that he had successfully directed the flow of the conversation.

To suss something out is like coaxing or pulling info out of something I think

For now, I won't ask. Perhaps if I get further into the evolution menu, I'll be able to sus something out about the crystal.

    Should've gone with "Jake's Faction".

Synopsys: A Si-Fi themed adventure where Jake(MC) and the rest of humanity fight for survival amongst other alien races by using the Oracle System to grow stronger. Pros: -Good writing/grammar -Original concepts and world-building. It's like Isekai but Men in Black. -Interesting characters. The side characters are especially well done. The MC is a little boring, but not too bad. It's the typical 'nerd/introvert struggles with killing and morality' cliche. Not overly so like Japanese protags, but still it's been done before. Will, Enya/Esya, and Ruby, on the other hand, are all pretty likable and interesting. Cons: -Slow pacing. I binged the story to around chapter 315 so it didn't matter much, but the pacing quite slow once you catch up. It makes the climaxes of the arcs more meaningful and fulfilling, but getting there can be a grind. -The MC feels average. He's not super weak, but he doesn't have much to differentiate himself from the chaff either. It's like reading the diary of a B-student. I'm he'll get that something special eventually, and in the meantime the world and side characters can carry the story, but for now the MC feels a little bland. Overall I recommend giving it a shot if you like science fiction or "system" novels. It's certainly different and IMO better than most of what you'll find on this site.

I'm not one for either, but this is based off ancient Rome and this doesn't seem too out of place in that cultre. Also there's a bit of a double standard there no? A man can have a harem but a woman can't? At least with modern technology you can determine if some has an STD and a quick DNA test would give you the fauther too. That said I much prefer monogamy, in my literature and irl, but this fits the setting just fine.

Priscus turned a blind eye to the eccentricities of Cassius' wife, as did the other gladiators and guards. Jake doubted that her husband was ignorant of these repeated adulteries, but quite clearly he didn't mind. A strange couple, very promiscuous.

Maybe not the strongest, but at least unique. Nobody tells tales of the peasants (or even your average knight) in King Aurthors kingdom for a reason.

The young woman's progress was also dazzling, her technique changing and evolving at breakneck speed. At times Jake would wonder if he was a complete idiot or if Lutex was a bad teacher. Either way, reality was right in front of his eyes. She was learning faster than they were.

Strength: 1 Agility: 2 Constitution: 4 Vitality: 8 Intelligence: 16 Perception: 32 The cost doubles for every trait more complex. Or in order of the rainbow if you remember the colors for each.

Amy, who had her Frenzy skill almost doubling her Strength and Perception Aether, had such a sore body that she gladly listened to his advice and increased her Aether Constitution by 3 points. As for the remaining 4 points, she added 1 point to Agility Aether and 2 to Strength.

She reminds me of a girl in a book I read back in high school. I think it was called Insignia. The female lead had a disfigured/melted face, but she was by far the best character in the series. You should check it out.

Should be: "Xi, why doesn't this mouse have an Oracle device?" or "Xi, why does this mouse not have any Oracle device?"

True, most stories do tend to favor their home country, but when Chinese ones do it, they do it much more openly. As an example, I'm reading 'Solo Leveling' (the manhwa). In the story, the Americans steal talents from SK and most of the Japanese are killed off. The implication being that Americans are greedy/thieving and that the Japanese are weak/incompetent. Despite the subtext though, I can still enjoy the manhwa. The difference between that and most Chinese literature is that you at least need to read between the lines to see the underlying prejudice. In every Chinese novel I've read set in the modern world, or a variation thereof, the author goes out of their way to explain how China & it's citizens are the best, the strongest, or the most morally upright, and every other country can't possibly compare.

Really? There may be a few spelling and syntax errors I hadn't noticed, but the overall sentence structure & word use are much better than 99% of everything else on this site. This is about as good as you can expect from a non-published work.

    sounds like Carnegie

"Sir Deweyville is one of the richest tycoons of Tingen City. He built his career beginning with a lead and porcelain factory. It has now expanded to steel, coal, shipping, banking, and bonds. He is also a great philanthropist that has been praised by the king, having set up the Deweyville Charity Foundation, the Deweyville Trust, and the Deweyville Library… He was also knighted five years ago… If he were willing to run for mayor, I don't think anyone in Tingen City could contest with him.
