That's the whole point my friend. He doesn't have time or desire for an emotional attachment. In his mind, they're nothing but a weakness to be exploited, and if it becomes publicly known that an elevated young woman fell for him and he flatly rejected her, it could be problematic in a number of ways.

It can seem a little long winded at times, but I personally love the in depth exposition about how the world works and its history which is spread thinly enough to flow really well with the story. You get a full spectrum in this book. I was laughing my a** off one minute, fired up from a fight scene in the next, or on the verge of tears, either from joy or sadness. It's well worth a read.
