bit tricky when using mastered. see as put it by trunks (for ssgss) and goku first, just ssjs mastered is still ssjs 1 (50x) but without losing anything including that 50x . ssjs 2 would be the name after reaching the 100x (if that's it) multiplier but anything below is still ssjs1. now vegeta trunks and goku around android saga time would have had thr 50x but that multiplier reduced the longer they stayed transformed due to fatigue, etc. so what vegeta did was forcefully push pass 50x to idk 60x 70x etc but that would continue decrease even after it pass 50x due to body fatigue(slowly). but gohan and goku let their body adapt to 50x(mastered it) then as the need arises increased to 60x 70x etc so while they may suffer from loss it's way slower than vegeta and it would have only capped at 50x hence why goku could have stayed ssjs even though he was tired in the cell games. same with the other levels ssjs 2 (and ssgss) after mastered can cap there even if tired. but ssjs3 that there could be that the body can't handle it well so the hair grew to store sayian ki? either way ssjs 3 was deemed unstable so god ki (much milder it seems) was needed one thing for certain though If goku had used kaioken with that ssjs mastered it would have been enough to beat cell so there's a plot hole unless it's otherworld bs

if I remember correctly he can only unlock the potential of those who have a certain amount. because he couldn't unlock all of gohans potential hence the need for elder kai later on. if it's an age thing with guru then it still wouldn't be possible to make guru youthful unless you want to alert certain individuals of the super dragon ball being used but in that case it would be best to just wish foe the potential. so thr only solution is to release elder kai (by some other non gohan means) and ask him
