Kumo is about the same as konoha, with the exception that it is more militarized and strength focused. The greatest difference is that konoha creates a few incredibly strong ninja and has OP exclusive techniques in their sealed school, while kumo has greater average ninja strength and has less behind the scenes damger, but fewer ways to reach incredible strength.

I'm not sure if it's just filler or considered canon, but in the past(during the warring clans period) MANY Uchiha unlocked the MS after the method of PERSONALLY killing a person you hold a certain level of affection for to awaken the MS was found, which also led to the creation of the Izanagi (which can supposedly only be used when the user posseses MS but does not need to consume an MS). These two things caused infighting to run rampant and Izanami was created to counter the Izanagi and suppress the MS awakening knowledge, which together with the origin of the Izanagi and Izanami techniques was kept a secret known only by the highest ranked in the clan likely via the stone tablet, with some details omitted.
