oh i just had a thought, what if the emptiness sasuke saw in itachi's eyes was because of the mangyeko sharingan?? itachi had to use them to win against that many other uchiha and we know that using them before they upgrade to the eternal mangyeko state makes him go blind. his eyes were literally empty because he couldn't see sasuke properly anymore!

I recommend using Soul Reaper. IIRC that was used in the english dubs.
