I made sure to include moments that show his more slytherin traits before this chapter, maybe they weren't clear enough but they're definitely there. Of course, like nearly every Harry Potter character, he also has traits of other houses, but his most character defining ones are certainly slytherin.

Nah he's not part of their group. MC is a naturally very independent person and generally prefers to do stuff by his self, though they might occasionally team up. The beginning is just the easiest time to introduce the characters
