funnily, I feel like the story pace is slow myself because I have not even gotten into the main things, but at the same time, I feel like trying to fasten it could mess up the flow of the story, I don't really know how this thing works, it's just sort of like an intuition.

I assure you that the story is not going to fast, yes, MC gets pompous, opposing someone like Gilbert, yes that is one of the thing having so much skill can do to someone don't you agree, he particularly just hates Gilbert, because he feels Gilbert knows whatever Rughsbourgh, is plotting and let's not forget, MC is the only one with that notion, he was the only that is currently suspecting Rughsbourgh, others are probably hating the academy generally or having other notions in their head and just think Gilbert is as unfortunate as they are, all these will get fleshed out when they start challenging those rift and you'd understand it more. And their are thousands of people still stronger than MC, right now, I'd even say, he has an "Overpowered potential" and not that he is actually overpowered, but yes he is strong.
