you must be some kind of special person for you to get this thought because of someone making an honest comment... you probably have direct and personal experience about that otherwise I cannot understand how normal people could think that it is the norm to imagine oneself as an Mc of a fictional and impossible work, neverthless it does not mean that everyone would self insert when reading a fanfic. Fanfic for definition should be different from canon this is why people read them, now I read for leisure and to relax and I am no masochist so I don't enjoy reading fictional works with too much bullshit drama, If I want the letter I can read other genre and for sure It won't be fanfic, life already has got a lot of bullshit drama and I don't feel like bear with it when reading to relax
