probably an attempt to translate the specific two-hour period of time in the original? I gather from other novels here that two modern hours was the equivalent of how people used to quantify time.

maybe it's the children and even grandchildren of his cousins? isn't there a different way of labeling generations there? what English speakers call cousin, don't they call brother/sister (at least that seems to be how it is translated in many novels)? and when it comes to what in English would be grandparents and grand-aunts and grand-uncles, I think that generation is all labeled as grandparents? (again, I'm only referring to what I've read in other novels.) it's how I'm interpreting it anyway. 🤷‍♀️

I think when I first read this, I might have been reading it from the wrong perspective. the way I was reading it seemed like the character was saying it was a direct switch between a Su family child and the child of the duke's mansion. which is why I was confused.
