Don't even... I'm trying to ignore the implicit stereotypes and biases (including, for example, homophobic statements) and whatnot, but the authors sometimes don't make it easy...

Perhaps that one can't just erase severe trauma within a day or two, even after realising there was more going on? Heck, her emotions are even still muted because of that trauma. Give a girl some time. For them it's been 5 years, but for her it's just been a couple of days, at MOST.
