I've only reiterated the already given information, not given any of my guesses (which are different from headcanons, people are using that word too loosely now). We've seen others remove the cores and we've been told that Jonam is different and he's centuries old, it'd only be common sense to assume they have some sort of back up plan to get the core out of a dangerous situation after all that time. as for how and why he got a new body, the author will probably explain later on seeing how important homunculi seem to be for some.
