The wolf starts full-on growling.
"Eiliah. What is happening?" Demetri asks me and I shoot him a confused look.
"I just arrived. How am I supposed to know?" I look at the rest. Linda is also a vet along with Demetri and Zack is an assistant. They all shrug while Linda looks scared.
The wolf moves and I avert my attention away from Demetri. 
"No, wait! Don't move or you'll hurt yourself," I crouch down, but still keep a distance. 
He whimpers and his piercing green eyes catch my golden brown ones. His fur is pitch black and his size is just bigger than a Dire wolf and he has more fur than a Samoyed dog. 
I offer a soft smile to see if he will see me as a threat, bet he starts crying and whining.
"Oh, I'm sorry. I know you're hurt, that's why I want to help," I keep my voice soft while holding the emotions in my eyes. 
"No, seriously. What is happening? I thought I was going to die at this rate, but as soon as you arrive he turns into a puppy," Demetri tries to joke, but I just gaze at the wolf. I hear snickering from  Zack, though.
The wolf continues crying and lowers his head, almost like he is cowering.
I cock my head to the side and give my eyes a gentle glint with kindness. Shifting a bit closer, like a baby crouching, I lower my own head but don't break eye contact. Communication is key, especially through the eyes in my opinion.
"Are you crazy? Stop," Zack tries to intervene, and before I have to start the whole process over again, Demetri silences him with a 'shh'.
Luckily, Demetri has the brain to know that if I do anything too sudden, the wolf can hurt me while being this close. 
Ignoring Zack, I shuffle a little closer, leaving a good meter between me and the wolf. He releases a loud sigh and slumps into a lying position. I refrain from gasping upon seeing the large wound taking up his whole side.
"Hand me the calming injection, please," I whisper as soft as I can and the next moment I feel the piece in my outstretched hand. 
I desperately search for a good weak spot. My eyes land on his hind legs, which is conveniently close to me. It's far away from the injury to not cause sudden pain and injections are unnoticeable if you do it the right way.
With my left hand, I pet the spot, the wolf jerking away, but relaxing again under my touch. With my right hand, I inject him while still petting him, making it seem like I'm not poking him with a needle. My hands move quickly and gently, to get it over and done with. 
I back away slowly, but I'm stopped in my tracks with a grumbling noise. My eyes shoot up and connect with the wolf's ones. He has lifted his head and is busy growling at me, staring me down. 
"Step away, Eiliah," Demetri whispers from somewhere behind me. I nod my head in understanding but take my sweet time backing up to avoid frightening the wolf with sudden movements.
"He should feel drowsy in a minute," I whisper as I reach the group of vets. We all stare at each other, thinking about the next move.
"Zack, get the car," Demetri fires in Zack's direction and the wolf is starting to bare his teeth.
Zack doesn't argue and launches himself towards the direction of the Jeep. Linda is frozen to the spot and I drag her back behind me. My right arm is pulling Demetri back, while my left is pushing Linda behind me. 
My eyes never leave the wolf's green ones as he is trying to move closer. I give him a pleading look, trying to hide the small fear in my eyes. 
I stop moving and relax my muscles, holding the gaze. He starts crying again, almost like a puppy looking for attention. 
Before I could do anything about it, I hear the struggle of the Jeep trying to catch some speed on the rocky ground. 
Linda yelps and jumps into shotgun while Zack is still parking the car in reverse. It takes him a minute to get the right angle in front of the wolf.
The wolf's eyes start drooping along with his body and we take this as our chance to carry him into the back of the Jeep that's caged off. Zack opens the door to the side and gets ready behind the wolf.
"I'll take his head to prevent snapping or straining. Zack, you take the shoulders and the chest. Demetri, you take the behind and stomach. Linda is freaking out, rightfully so, so be careful not to swing his legs too much, since she isn't here to help," I inform the two men as we each take our position. I wiggle my hands under his head and cradle the wolf, the other two get in their positions as well.
"It's okay, buddy. In thirty minutes you will be sleeping on a comfy bed, okay," I reassured the whining wolf in my arms. His head is taking the space in my arms like a lion's head, but with thinner features. I've held a lion's head once when I had the privilege as a vet to help the sanctuary transfer an injured lion.
"Okay. Ready?" Demetri checks with us. 
"One, two, three," Zack rushes the count and we stumble a bit with the wolf's weight and size. He doesn't stop crying, the pain only getting worse even with the shot I gave him. 
Demetri turns with Zack's guidance and places that half of the wolf in the car. Zack grunts as he shoves the wolf's entire weight into the back. I lay his head to the side and get ready to jump in.
"Are you crazy?" Zack repeats himself from a few minutes ago, this time I catch his expression. 
"You really want to leave him in here, in a cage while feeling a little woozy and in a bumpy ride. You're mental if you think you can get away with it a wolf his size," I raise my eyebrow, completing the look with a grimacing smile. To be honest, yes, it was an excuse for me to avoid Zack's complaining and the cramped space. The Jeep doesn't have backseats as to make the cage bigger, so only three people can fit in the front.
"Fine, your funeral," Zack scoffs and stomps away. Demetri helps me hoist myself up into the boot of the large Jeep. 
"Our animal whisperer did it again," Demetri winks and chuckles at his own words.
I roll my eyes at the nickname and let a smile slip. Demetri closes the door and I get into a sitting position by the wolf's stomach, the only open space. 
His entire body barely fits in this place and I start to worry about the operation room's size. Yes, we rescue the bears that are hunted, Brown bears, decent sized ones. It feels like he noticed my panic because he begins to stare me down. 
He whimpers again and I'm lost.
"What do you want me to do, huh? Does it hurt that bad?" I inspect the injury and my eyes grow wide when I see his condition. 
The light in the back lights up when the Jeep starts moving, making realise what I saw in the dark woods didn't show anything.
Blood is still gushing out, resulting in a pool of blood surrounding me. There are three clear slashes that ripped his skin, the form is paw-like. I also see some sort of Aconitum in between his hair and blood.  
I reach out and slide the small metal window open. 
"Hurry!" I warn the others.
"What's wrong?" Linda has horror written all over her face. 
"We're gonna lose him. Why didn't you even think to mention the state he is in?" I question Demetri directly. 
"I did-" I cut him off.
"No. All you said was 'he is hurt'. What happened to 'he is dying'? To top it off, he is covered in wolfsbane!" 
"Well, if you're not so slow-paced, maybe you could've been here earlier," he mocks back at me and I grow furious.
"Well, if you weren't so vague about the situation, maybe I would've known to hurl my ass over here!" I don't let him respond and slam the window shut. I see the latch moving, so I lock the window from the inside. 
"Oh, come on," Demetri pounds on the window a few times, but then stops. 
That's when I feel a rumbling from beside me and I turn around in confusion.
I catch the wolf's eyes and almost scream when he tries flying himself at me. 
His size obviously got rid of the calming shot, now he's a mixture of cries and whimpers while simultaneously trying to get on top of me. It's been no more than ten minutes and he is already up and moving around.
Now I'm completely lost. That was supposed to be a strong shot, a shot to make him calm and sleepy for at least a few hours. A shot that knocked the bears out for an hour or two.
When I notice we are slowing down, I know Linda will jump out at the reception to handle the owner of the property. And maybe some few extra cops. 
The jeep speeds up again turning onto a paved road. The ride isn't as shaky anymore and I notice the wolf is getting into a stance. 
Before I can calm him down or protect myself, he leaps.

Two worlds collide. On the one side is a human girl who prefers the company of animals over other humans. On the other side is a werewolf boy who is alpha of his pack.
He gets injured and needs her help. She takes care of him despite the warnings.



A scream escaped my lungs. My head was spinning with everything happening. Logan found me, but just as my rescue plan was taking place Elrich found Logan. Logan's wolf was as breathtaking as he was, but there was something about him that called to me. Logan was a beautiful golden wolf. Whereas Elrich's wolf was dark as night and ominous as death. Elrich's wolf put nothing but fear in my racing heart. 

Logan's wolf form called something in me. A growl escaped my lungs as I watch Elrich's wolf on top. The battle continues as both fight to get on top, Elrich's wolf was bigger in size. But Logan was faster. Size isn't always an advantage, speed has an upper hand in any and every fight. Elrich was beginning to struggle to keep up with Logan. But Elrich starts to play dirty as tries to nip at Logan's bare neck. Anger courses through my veins, as Elrich begins to overpower Logan. 

"It can't be. Your eyes." I forgot the ghost was still there. Her face full of shock causes my anger to simmer down. Her riddles were becoming more frustrating as time went on. 

"No more riddles. Just spit it out." My words came out like bullets, holding back no hesitation. She stared at me with the same fear that little boy had in the vision. Was her fear caused by me, my heart ached at the thought of it. 

"It's impossible. The elders must know." She disappears not missing a second. My attention is grabbed instantly as I hear the growls get louder and louder. This time Logan was on top. But it didn't last long, Elrich slashes Logan on his side splattering blood against the walls. Logan howls in pain, causing a fierce anger jolt from my body. I grab the bars and pull them apart. I look down at my bare hands surprised at the abrupt strength that spontaneously erupted. I stop wasting my time on the thoughts spiraling in my head. 

I let whatever it is in me take control. 

I run towards Logan and Elrich who are still tangled up together. Blood everywhere, each one bleeding mercilessly. My mind trembles with the flashbacks from the night of my mother's murder. I shake off images in my head and focus on Logan. I use my hands and push Elrich off of Logan. To my shock, Elrich goes flying across the room denting the wall behind him. Elrich was still breathing, but the impact must have been brutal because he wasn't getting up. I turn to find Logan's naked body laying in the pool of blood. 

"Eunomia." Dad's loud voice rang from higher ground. 

"Dad we're down here." I screamed. My heart began to tremble as Elrich's wolf chest began to rise rapidly. I was running out of time, I had to get Logan out before Elrich woke up. I grabbed Logan by the waist, lifting his arm around my shoulder. Logan's body was paper light. I don't know what shocked my heart more, the fact that Logan's body had no weight or the fact that his package was enormous. 

Not the time Mia. 

Why couldn't I have a normal life? If I had a normal life I could enjoy this moment like any girl. I trudge up the stairs finding Laura and dad both waiting. Their clothes covered in streaks of blood. 

"How the fuck. How are you carrying his weight?" 

"Dad now is not the time for questions. We have to hurry before Elrich wakes up." 

"Shit... Your right...The pack's resident is a mile away. You guys head for the car, I'll go on foot." I grab him before he runs off. 

"Daddy... be careful." He lays his hand on top of mine engulfing it with his large hands. Unable to form any words, he nods letting the silence reply instead. 

Laura grabs Logan's other arm and rushes towards the car. We lay Logan in the back covering him with whatever clothes we could find in the backseat. I sit up front with Laura, she takes the wheels and drives off. As Laura drives a sharp pain aches from my side, I clutch my sides as the pain increases. 

"Mia, what's wrong?" I shriek as I feel the pain burn against my skin. My sides feel like someone had sliced my sides and poured salt on my wound. 

"Holy shit, your eyes." Laura gasps as she hits the gas hard. Once the car stops I see a flock of people comes towards the car. My vision begins to blur, as I struggle to open the door. I scream as the pain begins to spread captivating my body. I fall to the ground, as the darkness captures me. 

"EUNOMIA."

"Boy, close your mouth...", she said as she passed by Shin.
Shin closed his mouth immediately as she told. His gazes were constantly upon her who walked further close to the bear.
"Well well, we did warn you not to enter our terrain..."
"Such a pity, this will be your death bed."
Right after she said that, she bared her fangs and used almost all of her power to bite the bears abdomen with immense power.
With just one bite, the bear's abdomen was torn into pieces. The blood splashed out and painted the white wolves in red.

All seven of the wolves howled when the bear finally died as if they were rejoicing. Shin kept on staring at them as they did this and he could probably look at them for almost eternity but the system didn't want that.
A system notification appeared which dragged Shin's attention towards itself.

The moment he read that, he instinctively turned his gazes towards his back.

The words with heavy tone resounded in the entire land as if the whole area was speaking.
All the wolves turned their gazes towards the small yet raised piece of area where a wolf stood while looking down on them.
It was exceptionally large, probably twice the size of the wolf Siara whom Shin considered as leader a while ago.
The wolf's shadow was covering the entire area as if he was blocking the sun light.
"Yes dear...", Siara smiled a bit when he heard the wolf that appeared now praise her.
It assured Shin that Siara was probably quite close to the gigantic wolf that appeared when she called him 'Dear'.
He thought that the wolf was indeed powerful just by looking at it's size and he was also aware of the fact that the system was mentioning him as the Territorial Lord, but no matter how hard he tried, he wasn't able to understand as why the wolf that was in front of him was completely red!

All the wolves were bowing to him, of course out of respect but there seemed to be fear imbued in the very said respect.
"You may rise.", the wolf said.
The ones who were bowing stood up and then looked at the Lord. They were eager to return now and since the lord was here himself, they seemed a bit enthusiastic for some reason.
However that was not the case with Shin. He was still confused with the wolf's color because till now he had never spotted a wolf with any color other than white.
He wanted to point this out and ask the wolf when suddenly he saw him licking his paw.
'No way...'
The place where the wolf licked it's paw, white colored appeared suddenly.

'He has bathed in blood?!'
Now this was something noteworthy. No matter how deadly a fight with a beast or predator is, ending up being drenched in blood is not something good however for the wolves or beasts it was probably a sign of victory in the battle or whatsoever.
"Alright, let's return...", he said with a low voice while licking his paw yet again.
"As you wish master...", other wolves replied and walked towards the bear and dragged him towards their left.
It seemed like the places which they could call home was quite close by. They moved towards their left and soon vanished from the sight.

More likely, they were locals. It was the safest bet, and it could mean anything. Too many hostile assumptions could blur one's moral lens. Such was the norm for Green Hats, trained to deal and form relationships with various locals.

He's got this in the bag.

The captain froze. His thoughts went blank.

The thick towers of smoke overshadowed the afternoon. In this darker corner of the woodlands, the air was cold.

And in this peculiar clearing, there were piles of moss with shades and luster ranging from dried brown to deep maroon.

But these were not the figures that held the captain's unblinking eyes. He was locked in eye contact with the glowing eyes of a hulking canine.

With a long snout hiding powerful jaws. Earthen fur prickly to the touch. Sharp ears that picked up echoes. Jagged claws the size of knives. Greater tusks that extended outward. A body like a boulder.

Was it a wolf? Or was it a boar?

The captain could only describe it as-

A Boar-Wolf.

Surrounding it were dancing lights like fireflies. Yellow like honey, twinkling like gold, and ethereal like spirits.

The forest rangers might be preserving it. The locals would most likely worship it. If there were poachers, this was their jackpot.

Seeing the half-eaten pile of maroon moss had it dawn on him. He might have unintentionally came at a bad time.

Its glowing eyes turned narrow. A deep, ominous growl revved in its throat.

Caller exhaled. Mist formed under his breath.

He slowly backed away, keeping his eyes under the shadow of his fishing hat. As long as he made no sudden movements, its primal urges wouldn't erupt and take over.

Caller's instincts kicked in. He rolled to the side, and the boar-wolf raged past him a hair's breadth away. It roared like a lion, a raw fury rupturing the silence.

Was I wrong?

He got up. The beast was charging again. He had yet to recover.

Shit.

Caller got hit halfway through his next roll and it nearly sent him flying. He got up faster. His shoulder was sore from the impact. His blood was pumping. His eyes were calm.

"Urkk-!!"

The beast had already rammed him.

He felt the world shift up and down as he rag-dolled into the boar-wolf's snout. The beast swung its head from side to side, tossing the captain over to the many moss piles.

Caller sat up. The moss had cushioned his fall, but he had hit something hard. Something leather. Something metal.

Then, he jumped out as the moss pile splattered into many pieces, having narrowly dodged the beast's claws. He stood up and stared down its glowing eyes. Behind the luminous glow certainly, it was bloodshot.

Around the two, dancing lights whizzed by erratically like a disturbed hive of wild bees. It gave a vibrant ambiance to the battle in the shadows.

Caller was panting mist out of his teeth. His body ached to the bone.

It attacks like a boar. It moves like a wolf.

Caller wiped the streak of blood from his lips.

It indeed, was a Boar-Wolf.

Caller gripped the sling that kept his rifle strung secured.

Should I?

His hands stopped.

I might be in a nature reserve. In a foreign country. Illegally.

He shook his head.

During his training days in the alps, he had made the mistake of indiscriminately killing any game he could find. It caused strained relations between the natives and the course overseers, as there was promise of responsible management of the area. It was all on him, he didn't pay enough attention to the briefings. And worse, he had somehow killed their fertile god.

I don't want to offend the locals.

Somehow it turned out for the worse. He would then have met the very same faces on the other side. An operation against rebels in the Frostlines.

But the other thing was… the animal was just so cool looking.

That'll make a bad-ass insignia. A tusked wolf. Damn.

Caller snapped back to reality.

I just have to leave its territory.

The Boar-Wolf charged once more. This time, the captain stood firm, his posture calm and confident. He then bolted towards it. It may have been twice his size, but its head remained low.

Caller jumped, and kicked himself over it. The beast screeched to a halt, dirt and dust flying. He sprinted past the clearing, back into the woodlands, towards the smoke trail.
But the forest shook of a furious rage.

What.

Caller glanced behind him, only to find the beast charging at full speed. He pulled out his combat knife. He had to find a tree small enough that he could wrap his arms around it

There it was, straight ahead.

Caller ran, jumped, stuck his knife into the tree and latched on; He climbed until he was fifteen feet above the ground, where the boar-wolf even at its standing height couldn't reach him.

The boar-wolf smashed into the trunk. Caller gripped the wood tight as it momentarily shook from the sheer force. Then it stopped. Grunting, the boar-wolf impatiently paced around the tree. It was not quite done yet.

Caller exhaled.

I made a mistake. The moment I turned my back, the wolf inside it acted up. 

It didn't take long before his arms began to shake. He was a GoD Operative with a fully armed loadout. His grip held the weight of his rifle plus the ammunition on him together with his aching body, and it wasn't going to last forever.

Then, the buzzing lights caught up to him. They whizzed and whirred all around, as if they were trying to get him to swat them away. With every contact on his skin, Caller felt a slight sting of hot light. It was irritable at most, and certainly distracting.

A loud impact shook the tree.

What.

Caller looked down to find the boar-wolf halving given a distance between it and the tree again before bolting towards it with full intention. The tree shook once more. It started creaking. Another smash, and it started leaning.

Unbelievable.

Caller immediately switched to the side away from the ground. He readied himself for the impact.

Then, he jumped

Crash.

The tree went down, smashing splinters onto the woodlands. Branches snapped to it's weight, flying off in all directions.

Caller rolled over to the side. His unblinking eyes snapped to the beast. It pounced on him. The weight of a boulder pinned him to the ground, but the beast's claw remained between him and his forearms. They stared at each other, dead eyes to primal rage.

The Boar-Wolf howled in great pain.

Caller whipped his combat knife up the moment the beast downed him, and it sunk deep into its paws. His feet kicked out the beast enough to cushion its lunge, having used the ground to stiffen himself.

It was close quarter combat, and he led Fireteam Sword of HEЯO Team, after all.

Caller ripped the knife out, stabbed the its bottom jaw, then its neck, then a few more times before kicking away from it the beast He regained his footing, knife rigid in front. Dark crimson dripping out of its tip.

The Boar-Wolf howled in a flurry of gurgling rage. It lifted its bleeding paw as it bared fangs that trickled red.

Caller exhaled. The shaking was getting to his nerves. The beast's lunge had hurt him more than he realized. He was going on borrowed power.

Could it survive that?

Then, the whizzing lights collectively gathered. They heeded the call of the beast, circling round and round it like in a dance of glittering gale. The beast howled out primal songs of war and triumph.

Caller watched unmoved as the Boar-Wolf got engulfed in a blinding dawn. 

Am I dreaming?

It was the logical conclusion to such a surreal sight. It might even justify all the events that have transpired since he woke up.

When the light show ended, the captain found it too late to react. The boar-wolf ripped open the light gale, lunging at him in full power.

Shit.

Time slowed down for a moment. There it was again. He was thinking too much. Too considerate. Too indecisive on himself. Its claws were inches away from his face.

I'm going to die.

This time, it wasn't adrenaline that decided for him. Nor his body.

In the heat of the moment, one could be thrown into a rock and a hard place. But even so, the mission must proceed. These decisions required utmost focus and clarity of mind.

What is the mission? What is the objective? 

They could still be out there. He can't get them home if he were to die here. After all, he was the one chosen to call the shots. And as the Captain, he will stand by his call.

We're going home.
