 Walking 30 minutes a day cuts the rate of people becoming diabetic by more than half and it cuts the risk of people over 60 becoming diabetic by almost 70 percent.

Dharvey embraced herself, knowing that sooner or later, she is about to cry. Since she is alone in one of the places she finds comfort the most, she allowed herself to be vulnerable.
To Dharvey, she read on the internet quotes that Angela Abraham shared in descriptionari.com about sadness.
The lines that Dharvey read from her hit like home, making her save the quotes in her notepad of favorite quotes for her to read every now and then whenever she wanted to.
Dharvey couldn't count in her hand how many times she opened her notepad of quotes. She did it again while the music in her phone played, her eyes scanning to Angela Abraham's quotes about sadness.
"As the sadness comes you must love yourself as a good friend, treat yourself as a person you love, for then you will make it and the tough road will have been worth travelling with bare soles."

In all of her quotes, however, stood one quote at the very end. It was still from Angela Abraham, one of Dharvey's most favorite when it comes to a quote about sadness.  
"One must remove a bullet from a wound and one must let sadness come out, it hurts like hell because it is."
That specific quote from Angela hit her. The first time she read it, she couldn't help but read it over and over again.
Every time she felt down, she couldn't help but read the quote. The last time she did read the quote was before she met Arlo and the others when she was in a depressive state.
Now that she is left alone again and that her friends were gone in an instant, she couldn't help but open it again after a year of not opening it for a very long time.
To Dharvey, it's true—what Angela said about sadness. One must let sadness come out like a bullet from a wound. It hurts like hell, but it is.
Dharvey knew too well of how one would feel if he or she continued to bottle his or her feelings. If it is kept inside for too long, who knows how it will snap the person.
She did that for how many years since she was a child until now that she is a young adult. Before she met Arlo, it was the moment when she was about to commit suicide from the school's rooftop that she felt that she had enough of everything.
With the events that had transpired a while ago, Dharvey didn't even need to bottle everything in before she felt enough of her life again.
It happened all of a sudden—something that she didn't expect because of her own selfishness clouding her judgments.
It was a ripple effect affecting everything that she had in life.
Like a bubble, it suddenly popped to nothingness, leaving nothing behind but little droplets of liquid that represented all she had left.
Just herself.
Dharvey suddenly felt a sudden surge of adrenaline rush in her body. As she leaned her body out of the window, she wanted so much to jump even though it was only a one-storey house.
Instead, she just shouted at the top of her lungs, surprising some birds and other creatures at the back of their house. 
She then started laughing as she hung her head low, shaking her head at the same time to make her long hair hang loose outside the window.
"Fuck my liiiiiiiife!"
Dharvey shouted once more, some tears escaping from the corner of her eyes as she tried her best to control herself not to cry uncontrollably.
At the same moment, Ava silently appeared in Dharvey's house. It was easier for her to visit the place since she saw how Frey and the others came to visit her house when she and Levin pried into her memories.
Sighing at the sight of Dharvey as if she was about to lose her mind, the demoness, Ava, crossed her arms in front of her chest and cleared her throat, slightly surprising Dharvey as she instinctively turned her body to look at her uninvited visitor.
"Oh!"
Dharvey blinked her eyes a few times, a foolish smile appearing on her face as she spoke, no longer caring what she was about to say.
"Who's going to visit next? The other angels?"
Ava shook her head, knowing that Dharvey didn't care what she was talking about because she already knew what else is there to lose when she already lost everything?
Her friends, and the person she loves.
Taking a few steps in, Ava approached Dharvey, the Cambion, laughing as she sat on the floor, looking up at Ava as she didn't know why she visited her in the first place.
"What? Angeal came home and told everyone about what happened? You came here to punish me, is that it?"
Ava didn't say a single word. She knew that Dharvey is already in the brink of a depressive state, not wanting to egg her in further since it would only make things worse for her.
Instead, she just knelt in front of her, reaching out her hand towards Dharvey. 
The Cambion, confused, just cocked her head to the side in wonder as she arched a brow at her, wondering why Ava acted this way towards her.
Ava then gave her a small smile. She spoke, making Dharvey vulnerable again as what Ava said poked her heart, exposing Dharvey's emotions.
"If no one else would be willing to listen, then I would without judgments."


"Devin, do you love me?"

Hearing her question that had snapped him out of his thoughts, the Soul Eater opened his eyes slowly to meet her blue eyes once more. He smiled foolishly as his right hand reached out to her face, his thumb caressing her bottom lip.

"Is that a question you dare ask your husband?"

Angeal pouted like a child. 

"Tell me you love me... or I’ll cry."

Devin chuckled, making Angeal pout more as she narrowed her eyes at him. When Devin ceased his jovial laughter, he didn’t answer her question. Instead, he bent down as he pulled her closer to him, his lips smoothly landing on hers to give her a loving kiss. 

’I love you, Angeal. Before I even knew it, my heart yearned for you.’

Punished by the Almighty Seraphim, Devin was branded a fallen angel and was given a curse to become a Soul Eater—a being who is hungry for souls and feeds on them for sustenance.

A year later.....

It's late December, I took 2 weeks off to visit Tiere at Jakarta, staying at her apartment. Tiere told me she loves her job and she made a lot of money. I'm so happy that I let her chase her dreams. And I, I finally got to work at my dream game company, was accepted right after a month dating Tiere. She's like a lucky charm to me.

The sun shining through the open curtain, I woke up before the alarm start beeping. I turned it off once it rang cause it's Sunday, I leaned forward looking at the peaceful looks of Tiere while she's sleeping, drooling on her pillow, greasy hair, and her messy waterproof makeup, did she forget to wash her face or? I use my thumb to wipe her eye –shadow but I didn't make it, for me she's always beautiful, my lips lifted upward I feel warm in my heart as it beats faster cause I realize how much I love her. Somehow it's so calming and my heart is melting. I leaned my head forward again, kiss her lips once and she pouted. "I want to sleeeppppp" she said, tossing her body to the other side. I laid back on the bed, hug her from behind. 

"Good morning, my dear" I whispered. I heard her sniffing smiles. Then my phone ruined my Sunday.

I sit up to catch my phone, my mom's picture popped up. DAMN! SHE IS VIDEO CALLING ME RIGHT NOW? I LIED TO HER! But it's okay, I am 24 years old. BUT NO, JUST PRETEND I'M IN THE HOTEL.

I click the green button soon as my mom's face close up-ly appeared. I was kind of shock, my heart start pumping fast, throbbing behind my ribs, it's going to crack soon.

"Hii.. Mom" my jaw turns rigid. 

"Hey, so, you're at Jakarta?" my mom asked, still smiling.  

I nod my head, "Yes"

"Huh.. it's so hard to ask you to come to Miami, but when it is about Tiere, you arrived soon as she asked" 

I told my mom about Tiere and my mom was so happy about it. I don't know she used to ship me with Tiere since grade –school. I don't understand my mom sometimes. 

"Mom..." I rolled my eyes. 

"So where's she?"

"She is beside me..ups" I covered my mouth, DAMN! MY MOM PURPOSELY SHIFT MY CONCENTRATION.

Her smile disappeared, her face turned scary. THIS IS THE END OF MY LIFE!

"HAA!! YOU!!! Bastard! You slept with TIERE?? YOU DARE LIED TO ME?? YOU WANNA GET MARRIED SOON, HUH?" 

"Momm.. mom... listen" like usually....

Then, how about Caroline and the flowers?

Back to that time.

Once I've done my confessions towards Tiere, I walked back to my car light –heartedly. I feel happy and relieved at the same time.

It's Caroline. Oh, I really forgot about her! I was kinda shock.

"Ryan.. where the hell are you?"

"Caroline.. I'm so sorry to say this. But, I think I'd like to stay with Tiere cause I love her" I said as I scratched my forehead, I know I sound like a total jerk but this is for the best.

"What???" she moaned and hung up the phone, before I even explain. 

Then the florist got to call me. 

"Hello, Giany's florist here. Am I talking with Mr.Valerian?"
 "Hello, miss florist. The bouquet and the chocolate box, sorry.. my girlfriend just left the town, so I'm giving that package for you. Thankyou!"

It turned her speechless, maybe I sound pathetic but not too pathetic that makes her confused. Ah, not a big deal.

Tiere : a nerd girl who tends to be so active, and talkative. She has a dark past during her school time, students like to judge her, but since graduated from high school she did some improvements of her both appearance and her image that makes her prettier in the present time. But nah, in the past time, she is kind of retarded. Her family isn't that rich, but her mom's new husband and her dad's new wife are billionaires. But Tiere won't take a cent from them. She is tough. 

Caroline : she is one of the queen bees gang in their school. But she is the most normal among the others, I mean.. she is kinda study a lot rather than hanging out and shopping, even though she does a lot of shopping too. She is from a very rich family, that's why people like to cling into her. Nowadays people.

Calvin : Tiere's ex –boyfriend. Son of a famous cosmetic company. Calvin and Tiere were not in the same school. They met in the pub where Tiere worked at. That time, Calvin has a crush on her, and get to know her better. Tiere doesn't change because of Calvin, so don't get her wrong. She changed because she feel kinda ashamed of her past life during her school time.

About every two seconds, the eye would blink once and the white lines that portrayed the eyeball would swivel, giving the feeling that this stone was rolling its eyes.
Revert Gu had a special function.
It decomposed Rank two Gu worm to Rank one.
For example, if the Revert Gu was used on Fang Yuan's White Jade Gu, the White Jade Gu would again change back to White Boar Gu and Jade Skin Gu.
This process was called reverse-refining.
Fang Yuan glanced at it and immediately lost his interest. He didn't need the Revert Gu.
The surrounding Gu Masters began arguing. Revert Gu couldn't become everyone's focal point like the red steel Relic Gu.
Everyone was very curious on who the red steel Relic Gu went to.
Some people looked for the floor's caravan Gu Master and some people waited at the main desk.
The crowd slowly thinned out, but Fang Yuan didn't move away.
"Young Master Fang Yuan, please come to the third floor. Our lord Jia Fu would like to have a chat with you." A voice suddenly entered Fang Yuan's ears.
Fang Yuan wasn't surprised; there were many types of secret sound-transmission Gu worms in this world.
He followed the directions given by the voice and walked to a wall in the third floor.
Branches and leaves stacked together and covered the wooden wall.
Swoosh…..
The branches and leaves automatically parted to the sides and revealed a concealed door.
Fang Yuan pushed open the door and saw an exquisite whirling staircase that moved up.
He walked along the stairs and came to a small study room.
In the study room, Jia Fu was handling some accounts, his hand writing away speedily.
He raised his head when he heard Fang Yuan's footsteps, revealing the scar on his face. He gave a gentle smile, "We meet again, little brother Fang Yuan."
"Respects to Lord Jia Fu." Fang Yuan clasped his hands and saluted.
"Come, sit here." Jia Fu pointed at a nearest desk.
After Fang Yuan sat, his left hand pushed a bamboo paper on the desk towards Fang Yuan.
Fang Yuan took a glance and immediately recognized that this bamboo paper held all his quotes that he had made in the recent days. Under every quote was his signature.
He was inwardly happy, it had gone according to his expectations. But on the surface, he wore a doubtful expression as he asked, "I am not sure what Lord Jia Fu wants to show me?"
Jia Fu's smile slightly decreased, his eyes flashing as he looked at Fang Yuan, "These are your quotes you made along with the quote you gave for the red steel Relic Gu. I will be honest, I am amazed at your business talent. Do you know, every one of your bids was very close to the final sale price."
"Although you only succeeded in buying a Black Boar Gu, a Liquor worm and the red steel Relic Gu, your quotes for other Gu worms only lacked by ten or so primeval stones. Brother, do you have any interest in working for me?" Jia Fu tried to recruit Fang Yuan.
"Here it comes!" Fang Yuan laughed inwardly. He had repeatedly made bids these days and had intentionally lost on most of them; his bids differing from the final price by only ten or so primeval stones. He had only successfully won Black Boar Gu, Liquor worm and red steel Relic Gu.
And just like he wished, Jia Fu was interested in the business talent he showed and took the initiative to recruit him.
However, in fact if Fang Yuan wished so, he had almost full guarantee of being able to purchase all the Gu worms.
"This…." Fang Yuan hesitated, then shook his head, "I am greatly honored to receive Lord Jia Fu's kindness, but I don't want to leave the clan."
"Oh, so it's like that." Jia Fu's gaze flashed, "Brother might have some misunderstandings towards me. A year ago, I indeed doubted you, but after using the Bamboo Gentleman, the suspicions on you have already been removed. Jia Jin Sheng was my brother, I hope you understand what my mood was like then. There is another piece of good news, I have already invited divine investigator Tie Xue Leng. There isn't any case which he cannot solve. I believe he will definitely be able to investigate the truth and give justice to you."
"Divine investigator Tie Xue Leng….this is a problem." Fang Yuan thought over this name. This was not good news to him.
In this world, there were many magical places and also many amazing methods that could be used to investigate.
When Fang Yuan killed Jia Jin Sheng, he had only been at Rank one. Even if he knew a lot of methods, he couldn't use them.
In his memories, Tie Xue Leng had a profound cultivation and wouldn't even tolerate a bit of sand in his eyes. He followed the thought of punishing evil and rewarding the right throughout his whole life. He had an extremely rich sense of justice and his thoughts were meticulous. He was very good at finding subtle traces from any clues.
"Divine investigator has a high reputation, I have also heard of him. But when will this lord divine investigator arrive at Qing Mao Mountain?" Fang Yuan put on an anticipating look and directly asked.
"That….." Jia Fu awkwardly smiled, "Divine investigator is very busy. From his reply, it might only be the year after the next."
Fang Yuan immediately felt relieved, he had a lot of time to prepare.
"Brother, I think highly of you. I hope you can carefully consider my proposal." Jia Fu made attractive offers.
Fang Yuan tactfully refused; now was not the best time to leave Qing Mao Mountain.
If he went to a strange environment without enough strength, he was bound to be bullied and pushed aside. The caravan was also full of unwritten rules on bullying and pushing aside.
"That is really a pity for your talent. How about this, I will give you this token. If there comes a day where you want my help, this token will be the proof that I will always welcome you." Jia Fu had failed in recruiting Fang Yuan, but he didn't feel surprised. He had a deep understanding towards this type of clan's cohesiveness.
If he was to know now that Fang Yuan was Jia Jin Sheng's murderer, who knows what his expression would be.
Fang Yuan apologised in shame as he received the token handed by Jia Fu along with the red steel Relic Gu.
He kept the two items close to him and backtracked his way out.
A young female Gu Master was caressing the leaves on the wall, when suddenly she cried out in shock. The branches and leaves suddenly parted and revealed a door.
The door was pushed open from inside and Fang Yuan walked out expressionlessly.
"You, you, you!" The young girl widened her eyes and blankly looked at Fang Yuan brushing past her.
Among the surrounding Gu Masters who saw this scene; some were familiar with this, some gave a knowing smile and some threw amazed looks.
Fang Yuan paid no heed to these gazes and walked down to the second floor. Some Gu Masters were still waiting there, excitedly discussing who the red steel Relic Gu went to.
Some people brazenly made guesses whereas some people gave some little news- "Mo Yan had a mysterious smile when she walked out of the treehouse,"—"Chi Shan's face was ashen,"—and so on.
And to top it all, some people pledged that so and so had bought the Relic Gu, even making an oath.
Fang Yuan went past this bored group of people. No one knew that at this moment, the red steel Relic Gu was so close to them.
When Fang Yuan walked out of the treehouse, he bumped into Chi Shan.
His face indeed looked unsightly, and at his side, Chi Cheng was asking about the whereabouts of the red steel Relic Gu.
After seeing Fang Yuan, Chi Cheng snorted and turned his head, intentionally not looking at him. Chi Shan silently nodded his head towards Fang Yuan as a greeting.
Fang Yuan also nodded his head as a reply, his face carrying a wisp of smile.
The last of the sunshine shone on this young boy's face; he was indeed happy.
With the red steel Relic Gu, his cultivation would instantly advance by a level.
And there was also the token.
A year ago, Fang Yuan wanted to build a friendship with Jia Jin Sheng and rely on him to take part in the future large-scale Gu fighting competition, reaping benefits in that period of upheaval.
Unfortunately, life was unpredictable, the final outcome made Fang Yuan not know whether to laugh or cry—unexpectedly, he ended up killing Jia Jin Sheng with his own hands.
No matter. Without Jia Jin Sheng, relying on Jia Fu also worked. This token was equivalent to the admission ticket to the future large-scale Gu fighting competition.

I was laying in a magma's lake that was created in the wake of the destruction of my battle with Bast. The searing hotness of the 'pool' felt like an intense warmth to me, seeping into my bones and making me feel like in a hot spring. I could feel my body adapting gradually to the heat and developing a resistance to it. 
The only thing left out of the magma was my head, on which laid a small cat. It was incredibly cute and had fluffy, salmon-pink fur. Yes, I wanted an iconic pet, so what?

She was quite reluctant as she took the contract, and only read it briefly, knowing that she was doomed no matter what, before signing it.
Immediately, the effect took place. The first, and most noticeable one, is the link that was created between her and my dimension, granting her the benefits that Alula received before.
From her twitching body and her dilated pupils, she should have felt the 'high' that came with the new power. Man, I'm feeling like a drug dealer right now. 
I could feel and 'see' my dimension's energy 'invading' and transforming her body, effectively making her a bit stronger as well as cutting her reliance on Divinity. I don't want my pet to be weak, since I'm planning for her to at least be able to beat Thanos with three stones. Imagine a cat winning against the Mad Titan, that would be hilarious, and terrifying. 
I gave her immortality based on my dimensional energy so that she would be more dependant on my existence than her Divinity. Though she can still use it to strengthen herself and to connect with her believers, I needed her for that after all.
It took her around ten minutes to complete the change and to get a grasp of the new power in her body.
"Good, are you ready to talk now? I'm curious about you after all."
She nods her head and I proceed to conjure a table with two chairs for us to sit on.
"Ah, before that, I prepared a drink for the occasion."
I took out a tea set and a steaming teapot. The herbal fragrance quickly spread in the surrounding, leaving one's mind in a calm state. 
From Bast's contracting eyes, sniffing nose and salivating mouth, it was a good idea to add catnip to calm her down. Ah, the king of cat herbs. Catnip is beloved by felines the world over, and for good reason, it makes them very happy. It's sort of like an after-work cocktail for cats, relieving them of stress and nervousness.
I poured a cup for her, which she quickly downed, and from her shoulders that went from tense to relaxed, it was a success. A cat goddess is still a cat after all.
Then, just like a broken dam, she burst in tears while narrating her story. Like it was shown in the comics, she and her family were born in a dimension adjacent to Earth and were called Enneads, a race of naturally long-lived individuals. 
At some point, they 'descended' and began to be worshipped by ancient Egypt. This gave them access to a new and fascinating power, Divinity. From long-lived, they became nearly immortal while their power greatly increased. They began to truly see themselves as gods.
Unknowingly, this power became a drug they were addicted to, the more they had of it, the more they wanted. Unfortunately, their believers' population was limited, and so was their Divinity. Thus, some gods began to conspire against each other to gain more powers. Truly, it would have been a successful Netflix's show just by the story alone.
Bast was one of the more minor goddesses, and the amount of Divinity she had compared to the other major ones was negligible, so she was mostly left alone when the 'Game of Thrones' began. How intriguing, I never heard of an Egyptian version of Ragnarok.
By a stroke of luck, a few of her faithful believers spread her faith to a remote region, namely Wakanda. She then pounced on the opportunity to leave the in-fighting Parthenon to build something more stable and to survive.
The rest is history. The Egyptians gods gradually all died from a lack of Divinity, leaving only her alive. The worse, according to her, is that she was connected to all of them because of their shared origins, so she could feel every single one of them slowly die in pain. The most impactful one was the death of her mother, which left her a crying mess for a while at that time.
She then turned her whole attention to her believers, trying to forget her sorrow, resulting in the birth of the Black Panther legacy.

I have been wearing glasses and taking notes the whole time, trying to feel like a psychologist. Now, I opened page number 769 of my 'Anime MC's quotes'.

The lost look her eyes gave was shaken, and I knew it was my cue to pour her 17th cup.
"If you truly felt regret at seeing all of them die, then it's even more of a reason for you to live on. Wouldn't it be a waste for you not to live your life as the last standing Egyptian goddess? Also, don't your believers need you? So stop wallowing in sorrow and move on!"
That, and the last cup she just downed, was enough for a new light to shine in her eyes. 
She stood from her chair with a new, freshened mindset and a wide smile on her face. It seems that shounen MC's were truly talented in changing people. I actually liked doing this, so should I become a full-fledged psychologist? 
"You are right, I won't bear this burden anymore, master."
Oh, so she acknowledged me in only one session! Though it took four days in total. Thousands of years old beings sure a had a lot of stories to tell.
I then kindly smiled at her.
"Oh but my dear, even if you signed a contract with me, you don't need to call me master, just calling my name, Arthur, is fine."

Tik tok …tik tok…tik tok... It was always the clock ticking that would wake me up from my thoughts. Something about it always alert me about it. I look at my right and I found that it's already 1 pm, morning isn't really my thing.

As I said that I started to head for my room I might still be young but one thing for sure I don't wanna stay at the same place with my sister.

my sisters words kept ringing inside my head and I knew for sure that my overthinking will start soon so I decided to listen to music and try to look at quotes. I decided to listen to Ghost by Jacob lee that song always takes my heart, his voice is so unique and the lyrics always hit me up and the melody it's just right. Everything about that song is right. i kept scrolling between different quotes but nothing caught my attention it's all the same except for one

All that thinking made me wonder of every choice I made and if it was the right one back then or if it was the right one for the future. As I try to recall the memories my mind get blocked and become blanked.

The sixteen-year-old Klaus Weber uttered this sentence smoothly to his friend sitting at the seat in front. Being the last students to stay in their classroom, the garbled noises from the schoolyard stood out to the two friends.
Sunset dyed their classroom orange.
Crows cawed somewhere outside as they flew.
There were several students in the tennis club practicing in the late evening, and Klaus could hear their shouts even from his class. If someone was to ignore this, the atmosphere surrounding Klaus and his friend could be considered quiet.
Klaus Weber. A first-year high schooler at the Yokoyama Ichi Academy. His ocean blue eyes were a distinct contrast to his neatly cropped dark hair. His diversions while at school? Getting together with friends and those who he considered family as often as he could. Participate in events with them and alike.
To someone like him, being alone without a friend, a family member to talk with was something he never wanted to experience again.
Speaking of which, the friend sitting in front of Klaus at the time was Akeno Aoi. With her thin eyes staring at Klaus indifferently, she brushed a few fingers over her other hand.
"That quote. Alex Haley, was it?"
"Correct!" A wide smile appeared on Klaus's face.
"Then, how about this one?"
Klaus coughed an exaggerated cough and straightened his sitting posture. "The family is the most important organization in time or eternity. Our purpose in life is to create for ourselves eternal family units."
"...Joseph Fielding Smith. That was a quote by Joseph Fielding Smith."
Once again, Klaus smiled at Aoi's correct response. He practically muttered those quotes a multitude of times to her, so it wasn't difficult to guess. As best friends, they were close, so it was hardly a chore for Aoi to remember the quotes and who had said them.
"I'd heard them for too many times. Pick a new quote. Choose one that's not related to family or anything of the sort," said Aoi. The words she spoke came out as monotone as ever. They lacked any ego or drive. While this was true, Aoi's eyes glinted with slight happiness every time Klaus brought up his list of quotes randomly.
But her expression was almost the same that no one noticed, not even Klaus.
"Hmm, you have a family of your own, Aoi. I was born an orphan, raised by my grandmother, and learned to do everything by myself."
"That was quite an exaggeration. I don't remember the last time you cleaned your room by yourself. In regards to sports, you're hopeless."
"Ugh... Don't bring those up!"
"There's only the two of us here," Aoi muttered as she ran her hand down her shoulder-length dark hair.
Aoi adjusted her glasses and then grabbed her schoolbag. Knowing she wanted to leave, Klaus did the same as well and swept his gaze over the classroom. Since both of them were on duty, they'd swept the floor and wiped the windows after their classmates left.
"Wait for me at the gate," ordered Aoi.
"Where are you going?"
"The staffroom. Just wait for me at the gate, Klaus."
With almost silent steps, Aoi walked away and turned into a corner in the corridor, leaving Klaus alone. Ah, he had forgotten. They had to return the keys to the storeroom. Klaus realized this and bit his lip.
Well, the boy was prone to forget things quickly.
On the ground floor, Klaus sauntered over to his shoe locker and pulled out his shoes. He had put a bit of strength into his pull without him realizing, and a white letter immediately fluttered before his eyes. It took a few moments before Klaus could register the object lying near his feet.
"Wait, did I..." Staring at the nameplate soldered onto the shoe locker's door, he shook his head. It was indeed his shoe locker.
"Hm." He quickly glanced left and right. Good, no one else was there at the moment! It would be unwise for him to wait any longer, and so, he picked the letter and hid it in his schoolbag.
Opening it in his room would be the best choice. Though, even after Klaus had resolved to this, his heart couldn't stop thumping against his chest.
"A love letter? It can't be, right?" He said to no one in particular.
He balked at the fact that he'd just received a love letter. That couldn't be it? He never had any experience with this sort of event before, so he had many doubts. No one would think of giving something like this to him. After all, a lot of girls he knew described him as annoying since he wouldn't stop coming up with quotes during conversations. He was self-aware of this.
Though by letting his negative thoughts took over, Klaus quickly concluded that the sender had mistaken his shoe locker for someone else's. Hence the reason why he found the letter first.
Wait, this didn't feel right as well.
It was late evening. Wouldn't it make more sense for the sender to place the letter in the early morning? Leaving it in the shoe locker for a whole night would surely trouble the sender more than he or she would've wanted. That person wouldn't be able to get a good night's sleep, thinking about it.
"Ah... but what do I know? If it does turn out that he or she got the wrong person, I'll just put it where it is supposed to be."
A simple plan, but common sense would tell him otherwise if he thought about it a few more times. There was a good chance that the intended person was someone he didn't know at all, if barely. Klaus proceeded to focus his line of thoughts in a different direction. Indeed, he quickly thought that the sender didn't get his shoe locker mixed up, that he was the intended person all along.
Standing by himself at the school gate, Klaus mentally made a list of the possible girls who had placed the letter in his shoe locker. Could it be the class's representative, Kitabayashi Arisu? Or perhaps his secret admirer was the student council's vice president, Fukutsuchi Emiko! No, this list had some girls that were out of his league. He had to trim it down.
"What's this about a love letter?"
"Wah!"
Aoi looked at Klaus with a steady gaze, neither curiosity nor puzzlement visible in her eyes. At least Klaus thought so when he saw her.
"Nothing... The family is one of nature's masterpieces!"
The quote came out of nowhere. Klaus put up a wry smile, somewhat contradicting himself. He was an open book to his best friend through and through.
"A quote by George Santayana. That aside, you're nervous. Did something happened while I was gone?"
Aoi didn't appear to be worried, despite what she said. Her emotionless countenance sometimes made even Klaus a bit dumbfounded when he wanted to respond to her questions.
These two walked to school every day, and it didn't take more than fifteen minutes for them to reach their neighborhood. Klaus halted in front of his house and slowly turned to face Aoi behind him.
"Have you ever thought of sending a love letter to me?" Klaus blurted out of nowhere, asking a straightforward question.
He'd hoped that his deduction was correct, that Aoi was the one who'd placed the letter.
"Let me guess. Someone sent you a love letter, and you haven't opened it yet. But since you're not close with anyone other than me, you're assuming I was the one who'd given you the letter."
She'd guessed everything!
"Um..."
"I see. Then, good luck with your first romance."
Aoi lazily waved Klaus goodbye and walked to her house a few blocks away. For someone who had known Klaus for a long time, she knew Klaus had no experience in this sort of matter. As far as she was aware, his focus was solely on his hobbies and fascinations.
Klaus's hobbies? During his free time before dinner, he would tend to his collection of books. Yes, each book, each story revolved around the character's relationships.
"Spirits Beyond. Rise of the Wandering Noble Family. Black Tears of Brynhildr."
It was only five more minutes before dinner, but Klaus decided to read one more book before then. He sat on a chair and skimmed through the scented pages of Spirits Beyond. It didn't take more than a few seconds until he had reached the page he wanted to read.
The page described a scene where the male protagonist who had grown up by himself stumbled into a certain girl. This girl recognized him as her younger brother, but he denied any relation between them quite adamantly. The protagonist had grown to hate his family for leaving him by himself and quickly ran away from the scene. He ran away from his older sister.
With a sigh, Klaus put the book away. This emotional scene always got him excited. More often than not, he would try to find time to read the book over and over.
"Spirits Beyond" wasn't the best book he had read, but the protagonist resonated with him quite a lot. An orphan searching for his family, but in the end, chose to forget about them.
A strange feeling welled up in his chest. Yes, the sense of uncomfortable deja vu hit him every time he read this scene. Why? He didn't know the answer.
"Ah, the time!" It was already time for dinner.
At the dining table, an elderly smiled at Klaus when he stepped into the kitchen. Dinner for that night was chicken curry with fragrant, fluffy rice.
Klaus had helped cooked the rice and cut the chicken into sizable pieces roughly an hour ago.
"Eat slowly. The food won't be going anywhere." Klaus's grandma let out a small laugh. Klaus shoved lumps of rice into his mouth, refilled his bowl of rice, and slathered more curry on his plate.
Since Klaus was young, this woman had been taking care of him by herself.
Words won't be enough to describe how grateful Klaus is towards her. Due to this, Klaus wouldn't hesitate to spill whatever he had in his mind.
"Grandma, someone put a love letter in my shoe locker!" said Klaus after he'd finished eating.
It was worth noting that he had not opened the letter yet. Regardless, he ran his mouth and spoke in a prideful tone. This accomplishment enraptured him this much.
"Who is it? Do I know her?" Grandma asked curiously.
"I haven't opened it yet. But whoever this girl is, I'll make her like me more with the newest quotes I'd discovered. She'll fall head over heels over me, I'm sure."
"Ah, but don't neglect your studies, okay? You're a smart student already, so I don't want your academics to be affected. Make good use of your time," said Grandma. "Anyway, don't forget to introduce her to me when you can."
"No problem!"
To be so excited, it was proof that this was indeed Klaus's first step into his adolescent romance. Not to say it was wrong to be thinking this way.
Klaus went back to his room after chatting with grandma for a little while and rummaged through his schoolbag. His fingers pressed the white letter as he pulled it out.
Sweat trickling down his forehead, he gingerly opened the letter with his free hand. A folded sheet of paper poked out from inside.
Thum! Thum!
Akeno Aoi let herself in through the wooden door and stared at the letter in Klaus's hands. She raised an eyebrow at it.
"I didn't say you could come in!" Klaus said with slanted eyes. "And when did you come in?"
"You haven't read it yet?"
"No... I'm about to. Why are you here this late anyway?"
"I can't help but question myself. I want to know who it is."
"Tch. Don't be a busybody."
Klaus wanted to read the letter by himself, so Aoi's presence miffed him, more than he'd thought it would. Regardless, Klaus motioned for Aoi to sit on his chair as he unfolded the white sheet of paper.
It wasn't uncommon for Aoi to visit him at random times. After all, they had known each other since elementary. He was used to seeing her quite a lot after school.
"So, so, who is it?" asked Aoi with an indifferent expression. Her words didn't match the face she was making.
"...."
"Hey, I'm talking to you."
"Is this a prank?"
Klaus gave the paper to Aoi and sat on the floor. He buried his face in his hands and sobbed exaggeratedly. Snots of shame flowed out, and tears of embarrassment trickled down his cheeks. Who would do this?! A devil in human form! Klaus cursed silently.
Aoi stared at the letter, and as if wanting to exacerbate Klaus's mood, read the contents out loud.
"Klaus Weber, I'd known you for a long time. You might not believe nor remember me. To err is human, after all. There are so many things I need to tell you. I need to see you in person. I'll visit your classroom sooner or later, so be prepared.
Regards, your loving father."
"Is this a joke? Your father is..." Aoi wanted to comment on the letter, but Klaus's sobs ceased the action.
"My parents died a long time ago!" Klaus said with teary eyes. "The only ones I have now are you and grandma. Who thought about this heartless prank?!"
"Now, you're acting like a five-year-old... You're exaggerating. Ignore this and..."
"Aoi! I won't forgive anyone who makes fun of my family! If the family were a fruit, it would be an orange, a circle of sections, held together but separable – each segment distinct."
"What? That's a quote by Loretta Cottin Porgrebin, right? That came out of nowhere."
Klaus shook his head and stormed out of the house, his hand gripped a slender wooden stick tightly. Where did he get it? Aoi called for him, but the man paid her the scantest attention. He would visit this student who'd sent the letter and wack him or her in the face!
Though, he had no clue as to who this person was, and more importantly, where he or she lived.
"Stop being an idiot."
Aoi pulled him by the collar and slapped him squarely on his cheek.
"Wha... Aoi?"
"You become an idiot every time you let your emotions take over. If I wasn't there for you each time this happened, then you would've been caught doing stupid things."
Again, Aoi said these words with little to no emotion showing on her face.
"Aoi..."
"And since I'm always with you at school, the other students will think I'm weird as well."
"That's your reason?!"
"Anyway, enough of this. Throw away the letter and finish your homework. I'll let you copy mine this time."
Klaus nodded and thanked the benevolent sister with a smile. He wanted to do his homework by himself before, but an offer like this was hard to resist. As for the stupid letter, he would just keep it for now until he could find the sender.
