After a rest, Brother Wolf continued to clean up the wounds for both of the people, and finally put on the healing medicine for dressing.
Li Du asked, "Are you okay? Can you walk by yourself?"
The older native man nodded, got onto his feet with the help of a tree branch, and bowed after getting up. "Thank you, thank you for saving my life. If I had not come across you today, we would have died!"
Brother Wolf frowned. "Copperhead is not that venomous. How could you become unconscious so soon after being bitten?"
The Native American said, "I don't know. We've always been like this in our tribe. We are sensitive to the copperhead bushmaster. Our nerves are often numb from a bite."
"Sensitive towards vipers," Brother Wolf understood. "Be careful next time and stay away if you see a snake."
The boy asked, "Did you see a helicopter just now? It's got a big box. Did you notice it?"
Li Du said, "Oh, we saw it. Why are you concerned about the helicopter?"
The boy said, "We followed the helicopter. Is that the helicopter that the Pittsburgh administration used to drop food and medicine?"
To help the natives and some remote villages, the cities around the Appalachian mountains often send helicopters to drop some daily necessities in the remote mountains, to assist the vulnerable groups.
Listening to the boy's words, Li Du knew he worried too much and said, "It was a private helicopter, it was supposed to carry something. It didn't drop anything."
The boy showed a disappointed expression, and muttered, "Oh, well, the Pittsburgh administration hasn't dropped anything in two months. That's strange."
The older Markelov grinned. Li Du looked at him and whispered, "Was it you?"
Big Markelov grinned and said, "It turned out that these government packages are very nice. We found them once. Clothes, medicine, food and a few tools came from there."
The two men were exceedingly grateful after Li Du saved them. Li Du wanted to continue on his way, but the locals wouldn't hear of it and invited him and his party for a meal.
The two natives were Mohicans. Their tribe was once one of several large Appalachian tribes.
The Mohican people originally lived north of the Catskill Mountains on the upper Hudson River. Their tribal name meant 'Wolf' in their Algonquin language, but the Dutch and English who first discovered them called them riverside Indians because they lived along the river.
Later, the land of the Mohicans was invaded and sold cheaply, and eventually, they left their homeland for the mountains.
By this time, the Mohican tribe had a large number of branches, five of which were the main ones. Each branch was ruled by ancestral leaders and supported by elected advisers.
The young native was named Catulom and the older man's name was Sadisram. They belonged to a small branch of the Mohican tribe called Tavisi.
Catulom, who had the enthusiasm and honesty of a teenager, said, "If you can, I want you to come to our place. My parents will want to thank you for saving their son."
Li Du looked at the sky, where the sun was almost setting, and decided that eating a meal with the tribe would be fine. He nodded.
However, he noticed that Sadisram did not seem very pleased with the invitation, and seconded it only half-heartedly.
Catulom, who had not noticed this, was delighted and said, "Great! Our tribe must welcome you, for we have had no guests for a long time!"
"It's not that our tribe hasn't had guests for a long time," Sadisram said gravely. "It's that we don't allow them in. Most people, white and black, are bad people. Only some of them are good. We welcome good people."
Li Du smiled and said, "Fortunately, I am not white or black."
"That's one of the reasons my nephew invited you," said Sadisram.
As they walked, Ah Ow and Ah Meow ran back after having played enough in the surrounding woods.
Ah Ow came out of the trees. The two natives were shocked. "Hey, Wolf!" they cried out.
Both of them lived in the mountains and naturally were familiar with such animals.
"Don't be afraid. It's my pet. She's a good girl." Li Du beckoned, and Ah Ow ran towards him and placed the wild grouse that she caught in his hands.
When Sadisram saw this, he suddenly fell on his knees before Ah Ow and muttered something in their traditional Algonquin language. Li Du had no idea what he was saying.
Ah Ow looked puzzled. She cocked her head to look at Sadisram. She couldn't understand what he was doing.
Li Du hurried to help Sadisram up said, "My God, man, what are you doing?"
"This is not your pet," Sadisram said solemnly. "This is the spirit of the mountain, the spirit of all the beasts."
Li du laughed and said, "I think she's a clever wolf, but surely not a holy wolf?"
"There are two kinds of wolves. The ones who hurt people are normal wolves. The clever, friendly ones are the holy wolves. Our ancestors met the holy wolves, and when the holy wolves saw they were exhausted, they didn't just leave them in peace but also gave them food!" said Sadisram.
Catulom nodded vigorously. "Yes, yes, yours is a holy wolf!"
The Mohican tribe was the Wolf tribe, and their totem was the Holy Wolf.
Of course, as Sadisram said, they were not stupid, and they didn't just worship any wolf. They worshipped the holy Wolf, and it didn't matter whether it really existed or not. They had faith anyway.
Ah Ow's presence excited the two men, and Sadisram changed his attitude towards Li Du, making sure to invite him and his party to the tribe, and becoming even more enthusiastic than his nephew.
On the way, he said, "Our rescue must have been arranged by the god Mohican. It must be like this. He brought the holy wolf to us."
Li Du touched his chin and said, "It's possible, man. It was my pet wolf who found you. Otherwise, we wouldn't have noticed you in the woods."
From this point of view, there was something metaphysical about it. Those who worshipped wolves were saved by a wolf, which seemed nothing short of miraculous.

As far as Reiji remembers, Alexander Greiner and his family were people that Aria suspected to have something to do with their father's disappearance and created rumors that he had betrayed the kingdom…

'I'm sorry, Master… I'm not sure about this… But if you want to know more about them, I have books in my room related to raw materials, potion ingredients, and records of various plants. There should be some information related to the Native Cao Fruit there…'
'Alright… But there should be an easier way, let's try to ask people who specialize in these things.'

She would never let the same thing happen ever again… The Three-Eyed Imp Cult's incident was already enough.
"Stella! Did you go outside? Have you heard those howls from the wolves? Are you alright? I heard that some bad guys were planning something to our village again… Is that true?!"
As soon as Stella entered Gentle Leaves, the Apothecary in the village, she was immediately bombarded with questions by her friend.
"Iris… Don't worry. The Knights are already working on it. You also know that the large Merchant Guild's Caravan is here. They have very strong guards and Arcanists with them. We should be safe as long as we don't go outside the village…"

Sally thought for a moment as she tries to recall all the information about this fruit.  
"I remember that this fruit can be used to sweeten pastries and the nobles like them a lot. Ah, what kind of information are you looking for?"
Before Stella could answer, Iris butted in.
"Oh… That's why I'm not too familiar… They aren't being used for arcane concoctions, right?"  
Sally nodded after hearing this. She understood that her daughter only has interests in these kinds of concoctions so it was natural that she was unaware of the ingredients used to satisfy the people's cravings for good food.  
"Mhmm… May I know where this fruit grows specifically?"
After Stella asked, Sally explained to her everything that she knows about the fruit.
The plantation where they are located can only be found in the eastern border's county and one of the old territories of Count and General Maximilian Greiner.
It is also the same territory blocking the Erliente Dukedom from entering the Kingdom freely! This means that transporting a large number of Inferno Wolves and Beast Tamers shouldn't have happened unless the count had gone mad and turned a blind eye to their entry.
If the speculation leading to their betrayal was true, it would also explain how they could easily move within the kingdom.  
If they have received some help from the Greiner Family, then giving them proof of identities and necessary supplies wouldn't be any problem.
With this information, Reiji understood that Aria's words weren't just for nothing. Perhaps, their father realized this betrayal, and before he could make a report to the royal family, he was probably intercepted by the Count.
Of course, this is just Reiji's imagination and the truth may differ. However, there might be a tinge of truth in that.
Stella thanked the two before she left the shop and returned home. It was not a good idea to lurk around the forest right now as she might just attract some trouble.  
As she entered her room, she made a serious face and started a conversation with her master.
"Master… Am I strong already?"
"Mhmm?"
"I don't have a lot of experience yet… but I want to know how strong am I… How would you grade my strength, Master?"
"Well… In truth, I've already taught all the important aspects of Kendo to you and you just need to practice them… If you're fighting against people who have never seen your sword skills, then you can definitely dominate the fight… However, if I'll rate you with fellow Kendo Practitioners…"
"That's right! Please rate me with my Kendo skills!"
"Mhmm… I'd say that you can pass as a 1-Dan, No-- Maybe 2-Dan…"
"Eh?"
Stella wasn't too familiar with the Dan Grades since Reiji didn't fully discuss it with her. After all, there is no Kendo Federation here to make such examinations.

In truth, it was impossible to pass as a 1-Dan Kendoka or above without a year of experience. However, that is for the Kendo Federation's grading system. Reiji graded her high because of her skills in Kendo.
"One-Dan is for someone who has trained the basics of Kendo and possesses acceptable skills or techniques… However, being a Two-Dan means that aside from learning the basics, you already have a good grasp or proficiency in using kendo techniques. If you're curious about the Eight-Dan, they are someone who reached the inner-secret of Kendo, someone who had trained their skills for many years, and has attained complete mastery of Kendo…"
Stella's skills were improving so fast not just because of her training but because Reiji often uses Take Over on her. When he uses it, her consciousness was still present, so whenever he uses various techniques, her body easily remembers them.  
She just needed to repeatedly practice those techniques so her body can't forget them easily.  
"I will do my best to reach the peak of Kendo, Master!"
Stella said as she imagined herself being in the highest grade someday…

  I sat in silence, dumbfounded by Jacob's question. Ware wolves? Katie? What was he talking about? 

"Noah? What are you thinking?" Jacob asked. 

"Why are you asking me about ware wolves, and what does that have to do with Katie?" I asked truthfully. 

"I know I sound crazy, but ware wolves do exist" Jacob shifted his weight from one foot to another. 

I stared at him, waiting for him to continue. 

"Tell me what you know about ware wolves" Jacob asked, beckoningly. 

"Um, I don't know where to start. I mean they're shape shifters, right?  They change under a full moon, and they eat human hearts?" I felt like an idiot, and my words were coming out so unsure. 

"You are correct about the shape shifter part, but ware wolves don't phase under a full moon. They change at will, and they most certainly don't eat human hearts. They protect humans." I stared at Jake, why was he saying all this? 

"So, what does this have to do with Katie?"

"Well, I'm getting there, but first I need you to be open minded, okay?" Jake was being so cautious. 

"Jake you're stalling, can you please get to the point?" I asked desperately. 

"Noah, you and I, both descended from shape shifting ware wolves. Both our grand fathers were descendants from native Americans. The Quileute Indians had magic in them. They could shape shift into ware wolves."

"So does that mean..." I couldn't form the words. 

"We are ware wolves" Jake concluded. 

I stood there, motionless, unable to comprehend what I was being told. 

"So, where does Katie come in here?" My hands clenched at my sides.

"The ware wolf gene gets triggered when other mythical creatures are near, and It is very easy for mythical creatures to sense each other. Just by being in the same room, the scent makes them very obvious. Ware wolves can sense witches by feeling the power radiating off of them." Jake paused, unsure if he should go on. I gave him an encouraging look. 

"We can also sense vampires, by the metallic scent of the blood they drink. We can recognize that scent as soon as they step within a ten mile radius. Their skin is smooth as marble, hard as rock, and cold as ice." That was it, the last sentence started to put things together. 

"I sensed the same scent as soon as Katie entered the room. I disregarded it, thinking that it might just be some other foul scent, but when I shook her hand, I felt the immense coldness of her skin. That put it all together for me, and I kew that she is a vampire." Jacob stood cautiously with his hands up, as if he may need to catch me. Did I look that miserable?

"Katie is a vampire? So are you a ware wolf?"

"Yes, I have a already phased a few times"

We stood in silence. 

"You have more questions" Jake read right through expression. 

"Yes. How exactly does this phasing thing work?" 

Jake smiled. 

"To phase you need some big emotion to consume you. Something that pushes you to the edge. It doesn't happen forcibly."

"Ok, well what about Katie, what do I tell her?"

Jake's expression hardened. 

"Noah, I don't know how strong she is, so I advise you, do NOT speak to her about this. Don't do or say anything that gives her even the slightest hint that you may know something."

"She really can't be, dangerous. She just asked me to the dance, and she is so kind." i said, with certainty in my voice. 

"Vampires are our mortal enemies. She already knows that I'm a ware wolf. She might try to lure you out and kill you. You need to be very smart and attentive."

Suddenly, my certainty changed to fear. Jacob noticed. His hand came up to my shoulder to comfort me. 

"Don't worry, Noah. I won't let anything happen to you. I will always keep an eye on her every move. No need to be scared, and anyways, you will soon turn into a ware wolf yourself. I wonder what color wolf you will be with your blond, spiky hair, and your pale skin. You'd definitely make a muscular one, because you already have some in your gangly body." Jacob teased, to lighten the situation. I smiled. 

Inside my mind I started to formulate a plan. I would confront Katie.

~Mystery Man~ 

In a small and quite town, surrounded by hills which covered with natural forests and bushes, a moon peeked from a lone cloud, shone some areas that waited desperately for the moon to pour its light onto. Skies became clear and a lone cloud suddenly disappeared as if it was eaten by the moon itself. 

Moonlight Hills, a town where the moon shine brighter, that’s what people usually call it, consists of about ten thousand people. Though it is very popular with its beautiful panorama, it also has some packs of mysteries inside. Some native townsfolk believe that there are creepy beasts lurking in the forest and the town. But many think that it’s not important to believe in irrational things in this modern era. That story is only become an interesting fairy tale that attracts tourists, sometimes become a bed time story to put their children into sleep, or maybe become a scary but fun prank on the Halloween day. 

But they don’t know who they share their life with. I do know. I exactly know about it and I have experienced it. 

Maybe what you can do is just believe in the native townsfolk and beware. They maybe look like a joke with their primitiveness, but sometimes what they say and believe is real. And also it’s not really a good idea to underestimate minorities. 

A sound of wolf howling was suddenly heard, broke the silence of the night. Some teenagers who seemed to have a fun party at the edge of the forest, not far from the town, became quiet for a moment. They looked at each other. 

The young curly boy with the red face, who was standing near the bonfire, stopped his horror storytelling. Then the grin in his face became wider and wider, showing his truly eerie expression. 

The big muscle one seemed confused. He put his beer bottle and his eyes were wandering around. He was barely drunk. “Since when there are wolves in Moonlight Hills?” he asked. 

Nobody answered. They just showed their lack of knowledge with their shoulders rising. Some others only shook their heads. 

But the young curly boy suddenly spoke. It seemed that he wanted to continue his story, “Once, there was an era where you can find wolves in Moonlight Hills. But it was long…long ago. I remember my grandfather told me when I was kid.” 

“I know about it!” one of the girls shouted and raised her hand. “My father told me that there used to be many wolves in this forest. But they were being hunted and die one by one, until there’s nothing left,” she explained. 

Another girl, the one with blond hair and pretty face just sighed, “Maybe it was a dog. You know sometimes dog can howl like a wolf,” she tried to guess. 

“It’s not just an ordinary wolf,” the curly boy continued, “It’s a man wolf.” 

Another boy who wear a hat suddenly winced, “You mean a werewolf?” then he laughed, followed by the others. “You believe in that stupid fairy tale, Brody? Then you are as stupid as them,” he said. The word ‘them’ referred to a few native townsfolk who still exist in the town. 

“It’s not just a fairy tale, Max,” he eagerly pointed to his friend’s face. “I believed in my grandfather. You all know my family has lived for a very long time here.” 

The girl who shouted before, tried to stop her laughter and began to speak, “That’s why we like your stories about this town, especially a horror story. But it doesn’t mean we believe you. It’s just for fun.” 

The muscle boy agreed and nodded. The curly boy whose name revealed as Brody, showed his grin again. With the fire dancing in the middle of them, his face seemed scarier than ever. He raised his finger as high as his nose, “But be careful, anything can happen. I’ve already warned you about this.” 

As the final word from his mouth stopped, they suddenly heard a mysterious sound among the bushes. Once again, their eyes were wandering around. For a minute, silence caught them. The blond girl hugged his boyfriend, the muscle boy, very tight. It seemed that that boy Brody’s story was over her. 

The girl who shouted was only whispering then, “It’s your joke right, Brody?” she accused him. 

Brody shrugged, his face showed that he knew nothing. Or maybe it was just his pretending. The sound reappeared two times, making they all suddenly raised their body and stood still with pale faces. 

“It’s not funny anymore, Brody! Stop it!” the blond girl then the one who shouted. She seemed that she would never let go off her already drunk boyfriend. 

Brody lifted his two fingers, “I swear, Martha. It’s not me,” he said. In that circumstance, they slowly moved closer to each other. The sound of cracking bushes stopped, but the sound of their heart beat was going faster. A minute later, one of them finally spoke. 

“What was that really?” asked Martha. Brody tried to make them sure that it was not his doing. Max guessed if that was the wolf. But nobody could have the right answered. 

Martha then looked at the other girl, “You said that there was no wolf left in this forest. Are you sure about it, Tina?” she asked. 

Tina nodded, “I’m sure, but…I have no idea. Maybe it was just a lost wolf from the next door forest, or something else,” she guessed. 

Brody suddenly burst into his laughter. He laughed as loud as he could, as if it was his last laughter in this world. He stepped back, watching their angry friends who were staring back at him. Martha felt like she wanted to take her boyfriend’s bottle and threw it straight to Brody’s head. But she didn’t do that. 

“It’s not funny, Brody. You’re idiot!” Tina shouted at him. 

Brody couldn’t stop laughing. He really couldn’t help it. But slowly, he managed to control his self. “You’re all suck. You said that you were brave. I asked Tom to make that wolf sound with a recorder, and it was really buying you into it. No worries, Buddies. It’s just a prank,” he then chuckled. 

With the angry in her eyes, Tina then hit Brody’s head with her bare hand. “Once again you do this to me, I’m going to kill you!” she threatened him, “Now where is that fucking Tom hiding?” she shouted again. 

Brody then looked at the bushes behind him. He yelled, “Come on out, Pal. We did it.” Several seconds after that, there was no response from his friend. He then winced, felt a bit confused. He yelled again, “Tom, come out! Don’t hide anymore!” But still, there’s no response. 

The wrinkle in Brody’s forehead didn’t disappear. He slowly moved forward, and something they never imagined in their life before, suddenly happened. 

Something was thrown straight to Brody, something big, as big as human body. It was really a human body and it befell right onto him. He screamed, they all screamed in fear. Brody moved away that body without head from him and he quickly moved back. It was Tom. Brody recognized him by his clothes. It seemed that something killed him fast without a sound. 

“What is it? What happened here?” Tina cried. 

A shadow from the bushes appeared then. It looked like a very big four-leg animal. They could hear the sound of its growling. The darkness in the forest made them unable to see what it really was. But surely, that big thing moved towards them. 

They shouted, run, run, and run. And they really ran away while still screaming, crying for help. The mysterious beast didn’t stand still. It chased them with its super speed. 

A minute later, their screams couldn’t be heard anymore. It came back to silence. And then, the real sound of wolf howling filled the eerie air around the forest, again…broke the silence of the night. They didn’t know, and most people didn’t know at that time, that the danger awaited them. One thing they would know later, that the thing would change their life forever.

As the sun was slowly rising in the horizon Mars slowly opened his eyes, he was lying in his bedroll with Victoria on top of him, she was covered in morning dew that stuck to her fur and glistened in the emerging sunlight, Mars watched her for a few moments before she also awoke and looked back at him with her big blue eyes for a little while until her horns lit up
"good... morning Mars"
"morning Victoria"
then she jumped off him and began licking the morning dew off her fur, Mars sat up still wearing his bedroll and looked around and saw Yel that had the last night watch sitting by the campfire, Mars crawled out of his bedroll and joined her by the campfire
"good morning master"
"yeah morning Yel"
as time passed more and more people joined them by the campfire and soon everyone was up and so they began eating breakfast which consisted of dry biscuits and water from a nearby stream, after eating the group packed up camp and began moving again towards their goal Skyreach, a mountain. On the way there Mars watched over Mel practice, but soon some annoyance showed up, a pack of wolves, Mars was the first to spot them and called out for the rest to stop before he lifted off the ground to get a better look at the minivan sized wolves, now the silver lining was that they weren't magic beasts so they were unable to use magic but just their size and numbers was enough to send shivers down any normal person's spine, any normal person that is
"looks like meat's back on the menu!"
"don't let them run away!"
Mars was surprised to see the sky peoples eagerness but then he gave a sigh, of course they were eager, the had been on patrol for about a month and have been living off biscuits, Mars asked Mel that stood bedsides him
"how confident are you guys that you can take them all down?"
"hmm... one or two might get away"
"I see... in that case can I handle them all?"
"sure as long as we get to eat some eat we're happy"
"good, then I'll be right back, oh and be sure to watch closely as I will be using [Instant movement]"
"yes Mars!"
Mars leisurely walked out to meet the wolves that was running towards them

Mars walked a couple of steps closer before he stopped and put a hand on the hilt of his sword, meanwhile he counted the wolves

Mars then breathed out as time slowed down around him before he momentarily disappeared from view before he reappeared again on the same spot and gave a sigh, meanwhile the giant wolves that had been running towards him suddenly fell over as they stumbled all at once and tumbled over as they slid on the grass a few meters before they all came to a halt, they all had cuts on their necks, mars sheathed his sword and turned back to see the sky people all had dropped their jaws on the floor Mel included, only Yel somewhat kept her composure as she had seen the power of [Instant movement] once before, the girls and Victoria were of course unaffected by Mars' display of power as they had seen it before, Mars gave another sigh and called out
"come on we have to drain the blood"
Mel was the first to wake from her daze and urged the other sky people on as they quickly started digging ditches to drain the blood from the wolves, Mars saw Mel had a stupid smile on her face and so did Yel, but he decided to leave the two sisters to their thoughts and began dragging the wolves over so they could drain the blood from the copses...

Inside a room and of wood with simple furniture kneeled a sky person, if Mars was here he would be able to recognise him as the one he had grabbed by the neck. He was Ule the son of one of the most powerful elders on the council Tor, while the name of the council was the elder council most of the people on the council were in fact in the prime of their lives, this was because most of the seats were decided by combat powers with one being able to challenge any sitting person and if they won they would take their place on the council. Ule had always been living a sheltered life with his father being on the council most of his life he had turned into a spoiled brat thus mars grabbing him by the neck had really pissed him off of course this was despite him wanting to kill Mars and **** his girlfriends Yel included (of cause even if he somehow managed to kill Mars once he would still be doomed, but Ule didn't know that)
"did you just say that Yel of the 112th Valkyries have taken on a master?"
"yes father not only that but the master is also one native to this world"
Tor looked like a gentle middle aged man with white hair, silver eyes and 2 set of wings that spurted from his hips, but Ule knew better, behind his father's gentle looking exterior was a battle honed warrior
"a native..."
Tor fell silent for a few moments as he thought before he gave a sigh
"well there's nothing in the traditions that say a masters has to be from Beta"
"but father he's a dirty native, surely there must be something we could do!?"
"oh, shut up already!"
Ule closed his mouth as Tor continued
"him hurting you is entirely different matter"
Tor gave a nod he was not going to let Mars go for hurting his son, even though his son were a useless pile of hot garbage he was still his son and hurting him would have grave consequences no matter who did it...

Meanwhile Mars and the others were finished with the wolves and were preparing for a feast, of course Elsa volunteered to do the cooking part and cook she did, a quarter of one of the minivan sized wolves disappeared over the evening the sky people were the most glutenous they each ate 3 or 4 servings by themselves, of course this was only because Mars held back a bit and didn't stuff himself completely since he had the first night watch and knew that if he ate too much he would be sleepy during his watch. Time passed and soon everyone except for Mars was fast asleep, Mars sat in front of the campfire and warmed his hands when suddenly he heard something moving behind him, he didn't look back as he didn't need to he just simply asked
"can't sleep?"
"...no, I am having nightmares"
"I see..."
Mars sat and warmed his hands and soon Chloe joined him at the fire and sat down next to him before she latched onto his arm, she looked at the side of Mars' face for a few moments before she asked
"something wrong?"
Mars gave a sigh and looked at Chloe
"no it's just... I have never been a 'master' before so I'm just thinking about how to handle a few 
possible situations..."
Chloe gave a soft sigh and slight tightened her grip on Mars' arm
"so in other words you are overthinking?"
"yeah basically, hey that's what I do best"
"no it's not"
Mars fell silent before he asked in a low voice
"is this really for the best?"
"of course you make a splendid master"
"...I see"

The next morning all (but 2 sky people which was left to watch the corpses of the giant wolves) left for Skyreach which they were set to reach before the day was over, the journey was uninterrupted and so at about noon the group arrived at the foot of Skyreach where a village was being built, Mars looked at the buildings and found they were simple wood and stone huts, nothing like the sky reaching buildings he had imagined and was a little disappointed, Yel perhaps having picked up on his disappointment spoke out
"you should have seen our former home... compared this that this is just..."
Mars gave a sigh, looks like he made his servant uneasy again
"I don't doubt it Yel"
"thank you master"
there was no wall to separate the outside and inside of the village so Mars and the rest could just walk into the village, Mars dragged Yel to the side and asked her
"so what's next in you master plan?"
before Yel had change to speak out Mel that had overheard Mars' question spoke out
"big sis you probably have to visit mother and tell her about your new master"
Yel paled slightly which caused Mars to ask
"what's so special about your mother?"
"well... she's the most powerful elder on the council"
"oh... I see"

Chapter 1: The History
Nestled in amongst a group of similar mountains you will eventually come across the Ghost Mountain as the Native Americans call it. It rose up menacingly above a crater. The crater itself may have been formed by an extinct volcano or possibly a meteorite or so it seems. Geologists were just not sure of how it was formed.
 A dense coniferous forest carpeted the whole mountain. Pine trees formed an impregnable barrier. No light ever entered this forest. The undergrowth consisted of brambles, stinging nettles, and thick thorns. Vicious red stinging ants' nests produced a ring around the whole mountain. No birds, gray wolves, bears, or mountain lions ever ventured in there. In fact, no animals, birds, or insects could be found there either, only the red ants. Somehow the trees survived and seemed to flourish. 
 It was perpetually cold, the cold of the grave.
Gray wolves would stand at the periphery and howl up towards the mountain. The Native Americans had a system of markers, leaves, and twigs, that denoted where the 'dead zone' started. No one who entered and passed these markers ever returned. 
 This had been the case now for centuries. Everything was kept in this frigid equilibrium. This was to be disturbed by the arrival of European colonists.  
 There were a series of small streams that trickled down from the mountain. This is where the problem started. Small amounts of gold were found in the streams. Gold prospectors came rushing to the base of the mountain in the mid 19th century. A ramshackle settlement appeared there soon afterward. This was full of gold prospectors, but also ladies of a certain profession, hustlers and general ne-er-do-wells.
 The Native American population simply melted away. They kept as far as possible from this community. They knew full well what was going to happen to all these new arrivals soon enough if the environs of the mountain were ever invaded.
 Of course, this was soon happening.
 The earlier French prospectors took note of what the Native Americans were saying about the mountain. They did not follow the streams to their source up the mountain.
 Not so the next wave of Europeans. "What's happened to Wee Jock McLeish?" or "Where's Sammy O'Brien?". Nobody could find any trace of them and many others. There was also an understandable reluctance to investigate further up the stream and to go looking for them. 
 This 'stand-off' continued throughout the rest of the 19th century and into the 20th century. Prospectors were doing pretty okay further down the mountain streams, so why chance an arm or even more?
