maybe there's a way to get back my 'real' topic? I'll just most likely shoot myself in the foot, for a second time. better safe then sorry. So what fictional topic should I just choose? though this place is weird, I better make it a good choice, I like warframe so I should say that, but my character is a girl so let's do something about that.

What happens when a twisted dream comes to life?

does it still remain a dream?

this is a story about a lone operator, who sadly, will never be able to dream again.

Every day he has to make a choice :


 Chase his dreams or become hunted by them


Subconsciously, he wishes for a normal life.


Will he hunt them down and slay all his chances to make things right?

Spiral staircases. Some type of fear for spiral staircases, a certain dream that Jay has been getting repeatedly, always with white, spiral staircases. Something was different with this dream, however, Jay's body wouldn't move. He wouldn't go down the stairs, as if he, at least his dream self, has learned the results of going down those chillingly familiar stairs. Then, as if a giant hand, a force, pushed him forward, Jay started going towards the stairs. Then... as the dream always ended, Jay made a horrifying descent.
"Great..." Jay said, getting out of bed. He dressed up for school and reached for a cereal box.
"What are you doing Jay!? Look at the time, you forgot to turn on your alarm! Hurry and get in the car!" His mom yelled.
Jay looked at the time and noticed he was extremely late for school, and ran towards the car.
"Sorry, mom!"
"Sometimes you're so inconsiderate of your siblings.. your older brother already went on his own."
"Well... Cameron's school is closer than mine and Grace's..." Jay muttered under his breath.
"What was that?" His mom said.
"Nothing," Jay replied.
Grace, Jay's little sister, giggled.
"Well, we're here!" His mom said.
Jay walked into the school, hoping not to run into anybody. He kept his head down. 
"Hey, Jay!" His best friend said, walking towards him.
"Oh, hey Nathan," Jay replied.
"Did you see that video everybody was sending around? The one of that crazy celebrity speaking about how the dream world, or the spiritual world... I forgot which one he was speaking about, was going to collide with ours in December?"
"I don't like speaking about dreams much, by the way, why do you watch those weird videos? Do you actually believe what he's speaking about?" Jay said sarcastically.
"Of course I do! Don't you see those videos about people hearing horns in the sky, or seeing three suns? Or those weird monsters in the sea?"
"Nate...you don't have to believe everything you hear.. anyways, we're both late to class, so let's hurry!"
Jay stood in front of the door, and one of the girls turned around and started walking towards the door.     
"Watch, Jay, let me stand at the door. If she sees your face she's going to turn around and leave."
"Oh, I forgot."
It was too late, the girl saw Jay, frowned, and walked back.
"Ahh, damn it Jay!" Nate excalimed.
"Sorry, I don't know why they hate me so much!"
"Try being less annoying, Jay."
Nate stood at the door, and one of the girls came running to open the door.
"Hey, Nate!" She said.
"Hey, what's up!" Nathan replied as Jay rolled his eyes.
Nathan turned around and winked at Jay.
"I hate this school," Jay muttered under his breath.
Jay daydreamed, as usual, thinking about Nate was speaking about. He heard his classmates speaking about the same topic Nate was speaking about. This surprised him because he didn't think his classmates would even entertain the crazy things Nate would speak about.
"Oh yeah, and when the dream world merges with ours if you meditate and open your third eye, you'd gain superpowers! You'd probably get x-ray vision... And you'd be a chick magnet of course!"
All the girls rolled their eyes, but all the guys laughed.
"Hey, what happens if you don't meditate or open your third eye in time before the dream world collides with ours?" One of the guys said.
"You don't actually believe in this stuff, do you? Although... getting superpowers sounds cool, but it obviously isn't real." 
Jay was very intrigued, even though he didn't believe it, with the idea of superpowers. With powers, he'd be able to beat up, or at least put into fear anybody who has mocked or bullied him. This made him start to daydream even more.
The bell rang, and Jay started walking home, always looking back. The girls who would harass him always attacked or did something to him from behind, so he always had to watch his back.
When he arrived home, Cameron was already there.
"Yo, Cameron, is mom still at work?"
"Yeah," Cameron replied. Cameron was helping their little sister, Grace, with her homework.
Jay went to his room and started watching videos about the dream world colliding with the actual world. To his surprise, several Youtube channels and extremely popular celebrities were speaking about this topic. He hasn't seen so many people speaking on such a bizarre topic and wondered who even started this trend on superpowers, dream worlds, and all of that. He decided to click on the video with the most views.
"Now... I want you to know if you don't meditate, eat healthily, or take care of your mental health... you won't be ready for the upcoming months when the dream world collides with ours." The person began. "I'm sure most, if not all of us will get powers, but these powers will either make or break you! Depending on where your mind is and how you decide to use those powers. Now... it's becoming obvious the dream world is getting closer because I've been getting dreams more frequently, my fans message me saying their dreams are more realistic and frequent.. and you've probably been having more dreams too, huh?"
Jay thought about it for a second. Yes, his dreams have become more frequent and detailed.
"Look at how many more storms, tornados, and hurricanes are coming! The world is breaking apart, and the corrupt politicians, businessmen, people who work 9-5's would be the first to go.. people who are dead inside."
Jay turned the video off and figured anybody who actually believed in this was insane.  
Scrolling through social media, he noticed Nate gave him a message.
"I hope it has nothing to do with dream world stuff..." Jay said.
"Jay, look at these two moons in the sky!" Nate texted Jay. The image showed two moons close to each other, one the ordinary grayish-white color, and the other a dark blue color.
"No way, that's fake," Jay replied.
"Go look outside if you don't believe me."
Jay got up and looked outside, and to his surprise, just like what he saw in the image, two "moons" were next to each other. He quickly grabbed his phone to text back Nate.
"Surely there's some scientific explanation for this... I hope you aren't trying to link this with the dream world you've been ranting about."
"Nope, when those two moons collide, the sky is going to change colors and that's how we know the dream world has collided with ours. You're trying to tell me you've ever seen something like that before?" 
"You said when these two moons collide we'd enter the dream world, huh?"
"Yup!"
"How much longer until they collide?"

The strange and bizarre; three suns in the sky, strange creatures soaring the air, foreign, alien-like creatures roaming the Earth. The people of Earth slowly, fearfully started to assume that maybe, just maybe, the spiritual realm, or the dream realm, has collided with Earth.

Later that evening, while Epey was fast asleep, she began to have this dream that she had always dreamed of when she was still younger. In this dream, she saw these two young children talking. One girl and one boy. They were about eight or nine years old. The only problem was that she couldn't see their faces properly. 

"I have to do this, Nico. I will not allow anyone to stop me or to take everything from us. And you, you are the future of the great Escanderonia family. That is why you should also do what is best for you and your family. Just...be careful from here on out. " the girl uttered. She was too serious and eloquent for her age.

"You know what, I actually really want to stop you. I don't want you to get hurt or anything like that. But… I know your decision is final so I'll give it to you…" answered the boy. He was also as well-spoken as the girl he was talking with.

However, as usual, that dream was not able to continue and get some resolution because Epey, whether or not she had some control over it, woke up. She looked so shocked and lonely at the same time. That dream was really something strange. So strange that she would always wake up panting and feeling broken inside. It would always start with those two children sitting while facing each other in a dark place where only one lamp was producing light and ended with the boy named Nico giving a necklace with a round Jade pendant to the girl. She could not understand herself but every time she would actually dreamed of this dream, she would automatically cry for no apparent reason. It was as if the sadness and the pain seemed unbearable every time she was having that particular dream hers. And the most amazing thing about that dream was that the necklace in there looked very similar to the necklace that Epey's father had given her on the day that she had recovered from her illness back when she was still a child. She then sat on her bed to breathe properly. She also tried her best not to be too noisy so that she would not wake her parents up. Only now did she realize that she really wanted to go to the Academy of L.I.B.E.R.A.T.I.O.N. When she was a child she, she would always find herself dreaming of a place that she had not been before. And there, she saw this boy whose name was Nico. Although, his was not vivid to the eye. She believed that this Nico was the same Nico that she would always dreamed of talking to that little girl. Only, she just had no idea as to why she was always having that dream. As if a message or perhaps an alternate world was trying to enter her mind without her volition; without her permission. She tried to ask her parents about it before when she was still around nine years old and they had just moved in their current house, but they said it was plainly just a dream and maybe it was just a result of her wide imagination, since Epey was known to be a very creative and imaginative folk. She even got so insistent about it before but her parents would just dismiss the topic right away. Hence, as time went by, she, too, had learned to dismiss that topic about Nico. But later on, it seemed like she couldn't escape it because it was always haunting her.

The next day, there wasn't much enthusiasm on Epey's face. She was obviously not a hundred percent awake. While they were eating with her family, Billy and Marecel noticed her gloomy mood. 

"Epey, what's wrong? Are you in pain? Do you have a problem?" Marecel asked. 

"I noticed that too, Pey? Are you feeling anything strange?" Billy added.

"Uhm no." 

"Epey, your father and I know you. What's the problem?" 

Epey gathered her strength before speaking. 

"Well…do you still remember what I always dreamed of before? About that Nico and his friend?" Her parents were stunned but Epey just kept going on. "I dreamed of him again last night. Don't I really have a friend or a brother named Nico?" 

"Epey, dear, didn't your mother tell you before that it was just your imagination? There is no Nico your life. Also, Dorina was the only one you always played with when you were young, you know that, so that dream is really just a dream. Nothing more; nothing less."

"But, pa, how could I? It's been bothering me for years. It's just so surreal that after all these years, I am still dreaming about the same thing, the same person, the same feeling. I have read some academic papers about dream interpretation, but I have not encountered something like this yet. If most dreams are just wish fulfillments, then what could I be wishing for for a very long period of time? Or if it's about trauma, then..." 

"Epey, please. Give it a rest." Maricel said calmly.

"But, mom, what if..."

"What your father said was the truth, dear. Please don't think too much about it. Besides, you will have an interview in the next few days in Manila. Don't take your dream too seriously, you may lose focus on your true goal. You don't want that to mess with your performance by then, do you?" 

"Well, no."

"Then just forget about it. It won't help you focus. After we are done here, I suggest you go back to your room and have some rest. Relax for a bit. Maybe you haven't gotten over you National Statistics Competition experience. I will wash the dishes for now. Is that alright, Epey?" Maricel assured.

"Yes, mom. I'm sorry."

Epey really wanted to push the topic through, but she decided speak anymore. She knew her parents were not lying and she had nothing against the explanations of her parents. Perhaps, it was just that, something in her wanted more. 

 

 



Epey was known in their province a smart, hard-working, and loving daughter. From the time she was young until she graduated from Senior High School, she had always been blessed with multiple scholarships from both the private and public sectors of the society, making her known as the "ultimate prodigy" of their town. 

When she received a scholarship grant from a prominent university in Manila for her college education, she immediately grabbed the opportunity to make it hers. She then went to Manila to make her scholarship application faster. But because of some game of fate and a danger that she encountered, she surprisingly and unexpectedly found herself in a mysterious place where, according to what she had heard, only the richest and smartest people in the society were allowed to enter. 

Caught in the uncertainties of time, Epey tried her best to conquer every challenge that came her way. Meeting a lot of people and connecting with them was one of them. And although, it wasn't an easy task, she definitely would do it one way or another. These people were not just capable of making or breaking her life's goals and aspirations, they were also capable of affecting even her identity. What would a simple girl from a simple town do then?

Would Epey get through this situation, or would she be left wondering in the Inner Circle?

Of course, Li Lie did not understand. 
Was there something more important than Iron-Blooded City? What could it possibly be? Li Lie could not think of anything. 
The sun exploding? Or a meteor crashing on earth? Or was it a cosmic typhoon?
How ridiculous!
All Li Lie knew was that once Iron-Blooded City's defenses were penetrated, the people who were still living a life behind the wall would die and the rate of survival would not surpass 10%.
One would never know the horror of this planet without visiting Iron-Blooded City! The changes caused by the Purple Moon era were never minor, but the people behind the wall could not feel it.
Should the wall fall, humanity would face an apocalypse. The people who had survived the drastic shift of era and made it through the hardship to build Iron-Blooded City little by little were admirable heroes. With their sacrifices, Iron-Blooded City was given a strong base and became what it was today, but the sacrifices were only possible in that particular time period. 
After the drastic change of era, although mankind might have suffered a catastrophic loss, a starving camel was still bigger than a horse. No matter how they suffered back then, mankind had a chance of making a comeback.
However, after a century into the Purple Moon era, the architectural marvel would have been impossible to complete. The insightful yet mysterious person who suggested building Iron-Blooded City was even more admirable given the current circumstances. The man who stood up with the suggestion was just an individual and not a group or any faction, yet none of the records mentioned anything about him. 
Even idiots knew everything had to start with the beginning, yet this insightful person was never mentioned.
Li Lie was carried away by his thoughts. At that moment, a voice entered Li Lie's ears. "I suggest we promote Li Lie as the chief commander of the teenaged Iron-Blooded Companies.
What? 
Li Lie cleaned his ears at that moment as he thought he heard it wrongly. 
Why should he have to deal with a bunch of kids? Furthermore, they were a bunch of kids who were known as geniuses and freshmen at the wall. Li Lie believed he might not have the patience, let alone the qualifications for the job. He should be on the battlefield, facing fierce enemies.
He wanted to object the suggestion at that instant, but he dared not and could not. The one who had suggested the promotion was General Yuan Zhen, his first teacher in Iron-Blooded City, and also his ex-superior. He was a teacher and a father-like figure to Li Lie. It would not be appropriate for him to go against him.
However, the suggestion would have to go through multiple levels of discussion and the rate of passing it would not be high either. Li Lie might not understand why his teacher wanted him to be the chief commander, but he was not terribly worried.
"Approved," the Sun Marshal agreed without a second thought.
"Agreed."
"Agreed." 
The Moon and Star marshals agreed to the approval as well.
Li Lie was dumbstruck all of a sudden. 
What's this? What's going on? How can a serious decision be made within a second? Have they thought this through?
Swish! 
He bolted up while his mouth was slightly ajar. He tried to say something, but everyone in the grand meeting room ignored him.
On top of that, the Star Marshal had officially moved on to the next topic: the investigation about the traitor and the spy.
Li Lie fell back in his seat. The next topic was a serious and heavy topic, so he should not interrupt it because of his personal request and emotions.
They might have won this battle, but many problems were exposed in the process such as the usage of super-advanced weapons being stopped…or was it? Strictly speaking, the usage of the weapon was not exactly stopped but since they required a huge amount of energy every usage, a standard operating procedure was needed to ensure its stability.
Looking at the matter from the surface, it was not stopped because it followed the normal procedures. However, a desperate situation required desperate measures. An emergency plan was prepared for unusual situations such as this battle. If the super-advanced weapon was deployed in time to assist the Iron-Blooded Company, the loss would not have been this severe, and that particular section of the wall would not have been endangered.
Things grew complicated and it made Li Lie frown.
As a matter of fact, the situation was anything but good! They were fortunate enough to win the battle and Li Lie was happy that he could come back alive, but factoring in all the strange things that had happened during the battle, things just got extra complicated.
Even though Li Lie was all brawn rather than brains and loved to solve problems by fighting rather than thinking, he picked up the smell of conspiracy in the air.

"Young Master Long, congratulations on your dream entry. It's great! Even though you missed the first time, who'd expect you to go into the dream again so quickly?" The person who was speaking was calm and sincerity was injected in between the lines. His humble and appropriate tone did not sound like he was trying to flatter, and the timely praise even sounded comfortable to the ears.
Tang Long, however, did not feel comfortable at all. He sat there quietly, gazing at the moon outside the window.
There were no standard qualifications for when a Dream Seed could enter a dream, but according to the highest standard, which was popular knowledge, 16 years of age was the earliest one could enter the dream.
If Tang Long had not been caught up by a certain matter, he would have fit the requirements. 
Unfortunately, that was before Tang Ling's appearance. According to reliable sources, Tang Ling was not even 16 and he was already a Dream Seed!
Why? If that's true, what else can I be proud of?
The smile on Tang Long's face mocked his own existence. 
Are we not from the same father? Or was Tang Ling's nameless mother nobler than mine?
Impossible! At least, it's impossible in my opinion! Mother's genetic chain is one of the rarest there is. Even the Stardust Council is shocked by it!
What about Tang Feng then? I guess it's self-explanatory. So, why am I losing to Tang Ling at everything?
Tang Long's thoughts were stuck in a narrow dead-end, and because of Higan, he could no longer return to the peaceful path that he had once been on.
A glass of liquor was transferred into Tang Long's hand. He looked up and saw Twelve's smile.
Twelve had silver hair with a fair face, unusually reddish lips, amber-colored eyes that resembled a cat yet seemed abysmal at times, a solid nose, and a soft contour around the cheeks that made him somewhat cute. His facial features were somehow conflicting with each other, but when put together, they looked strangely soothing.
Some said Tang Long was handsome and Draconic Seven of the Stardust Sixteen was also a rising star. Although he was unable to compete with Tang Long, Seven could easily charm girls.
Only a handful of people knew that Twelve was actually better looking than Seven despite the former's face being slightly softer and looking a lot more feminine. Maybe because of his feminine features, Twelve did not like showing his face and always kept his face under the dark hood.
Twelve was the one that Tang Long understood the least among the Stardust Sixteen, and he had great connections with all of them. However, Twelve was a little too mysterious, a little too introverted, and a loner.
"You need a glass of alcohol." Twelve's soft voice was as tender as his amber eyes and his smile.
"Higan…" Tang Long took a sip from the glass.
In fact, he had been awake for a while now. As the Dream Domain was known for its ruthlessness, the first dream always struck close to one's heart. It was a test for the Dream Seeds.
Tang Long did not know whether he had passed it or not. He only knew the first dream was a forbidden topic among Dream Seeds. He also knew that his mind was still stuck in the dream to the point that he went blank until Twelve's sudden appearance.
However, none of that was important.
Tang Long did not assume them of any importance. The first question that came into his mind was still Higan. Even though he knew what happened, he still wanted to know what followed. Would Twelve bring him the latest news?
"Higan left, but she'll show up again." Twelve's voice was calm. It was his way of talking. Although the lack of necessary explanation made him mysterious, somehow it was appropriately soothing and comfortable.
"Mm-hmm." Tang Long did not know what to answer.
"Actually, being 15 or 16 doesn't matter. The Dream Domain remains a secret and is a taboo that is barely explored. Some Dream Seeds who entered the dream later than a 16 years old turn out to be better as well, and that's a fact." Twelve did not want to dwell on the topic about Higan, so he shifted it back to the Dream Domain.
Tang Long remained silent. He knew what Twelve was trying to express. Be it early or late, time was not the standard to measure the Dream Domain's judgment or ratings.
The only rule of the Dream Domain that was circulating in the real world was that a top-tier genius would get two chances to enter the dream. Therefore, Tang Long was a top genius acknowledged by the Dream Domain. However, he could not free himself from the circle of comparison with Tang Ling.
"Young Master Long, you are the strongest. At least, that's what I believe in." Twelve sat beside Tang Long, his amber eyes reflecting the light from the lamp and making him mysterious and somewhat cold.
"I…don't know." Tang Long clenched the glass in his hand. The continuous attacks on his confidence had shaken his world and robbed his vigorous spirit.
"You have to know that we are still your followers." Twelve's voice turned soft. It felt weightless and a little strange as though it had magical powers to soothe one's mind.
"Whomsoever makes you feel lost, he's an obstacle that you must destroy without delay. Overcome it and everything will be fine." Twelve curled his lips into a smile that held sincerity and encouragement.
"Mm-hmm…" Tang Long somehow felt comforted.
Twelve was correct. All he needed to do was to crush the demons in his heart.
Tang Long already had a life or death path with Tang Ling, so why was he so caught up in the comparison with the latter? Was he seeking consolation from the comparison and had somehow given up on the determination that he had set since he was young?
After all, Tang Ling and Tang Long were connected by a word closer than anything—brothers.
Tang Ling was Tang Long's little brother. How would it feel to kill his own little brother?
Tang Long drained the alcohol to the last drop. 
Twelve remained seated beside him and his faint magical power seemed to linger. The magical power prevented Tang Long from thinking and feeling unnecessary thoughts. What replaced the thoughts was a clear and determined goal—he must destroy Tang Ling.

Not all Decembers were as kind as December in Darkness Port.
Conversely, compared to the old civilization, winter in the Purple Moon era was harsh.
With the merciless cold, the raging wind, the endless snow, and the lack of proper food, many people had to survive through winter to be able to continue living.
A cart driven by West Mountain Yaks was rumbling forward slowly. It traversed across the snowy terrain like a boat sailing in a storm. How long more before it arrived at Darkness Port?


When a glorious old civilization was toppled overnight, a strange purple moon rose and thus began the Purple Moon Era.
Damn it! What kind of ecosystem was this? The evolution was messy. Even rabbit bites and plants were not to be messed with. How can one survive all this? Evolve into a Purple Moon Warrior? What did this have to do with the Purple Moon?
What kind of map was this? The Safety Sector? The Floating Domain? The Darkness Port? The Storm Voyage? The True Capital?
The Horror Lullaby List? The resurrection of the Underground Race and the prospering Underground City? The Chaos Black Market that suffused the world? The Bloody Road?
More importantly, one could end up in a bloody slaughter when dreaming and enter the Dream Domain? Fine, this damned era! 

Morning.

Peking University.

Chinese department, in the lecture theater.

When Zhang Ye arrived, the venue was still chaotic. Many reporters were outside, trying to squeeze to get in, but were prohibited by security. A few Peking University students from other departments also wanted to attend the class, but there were some teachers blocking the entrance, persuading them with earnest words, asking them to leave. However, these students did not leave.

"Return to your classes!"

"Teacher, I don't have a class today!"

"Can't we listen outside, through the windows?"

"There are still seats in the classroom. Teacher Kong, just let me inside!"

"Everyone, hurry up and leave. There's no room for negotiation today. President Wu has already announced it!"

In the end, there were still a large bunch of students who refused to leave. They leaned on the windows, or stood by the doors. The teachers also did not leave, but they stopped trying to persuade them. As for the reporters, not a single one of them left. They moved to spots outside the windows, ignoring the security guards and began filming.

When Zhang Ye walked into his class, all his enrolled students were already present. He did not feel that there was any differences in a public lecture or a class like that. Since the video lecture would be posted online later on, whoever wanted to watch it could watch it. A class held in a small classroom, on the other hand, was much quieter. There were no people with nefarious motives to cause trouble. He had more freedom to say what he wanted. "Everyone, quiet down. I'll start taking attendance. Li Chengan."

A boy raised his hand. "Here."

Zhang Ye said, "Yao Mi."

"Here!" Yao Mi giggled.

"Li Li..." Zhang Ye checked on the attendance.

"Here." Li Li raised his hand high up.

There was a 100% attendance rate.

Zhang Ye was pleased as he smiled. His students had given him face. "Alright, with everyone here, we can begin today's class."
