When I open my eyes, I know that this is not me. They will not recognize me and he will not recognize me.
I walk as fast as I can before my times come to an end and he will catch me. I just want to see them before I leave...

He answer nothing and it's make me angry, but I just keep silent and obident with him.
We climb in his car and just keep silent along the ride. In my head, many ways that possible to vanish this man appear, but do I dare to do all that thing like posioning him or stab him? Is there other ways that can get rid of him without let my hands dirty? 
"What in your mind now?" Suddenly he asked and I jump in surprise.
'Can he read my mind?'
"Don't worry. I can't read your mind." He said again, like answering the question I just thinking right now.
"How can I believe you?" I asked, doubt him.
"I will not asked you anything of I really can read what in your head right now." He said, monotones, but yet polite.
"But I can tell that you're trying to find a ways to get rid of me." He added.
I ogle at him and he make a half smile while wathing me from his corner eyes.
"Am I right?" 
"No." I lied.

'I must beware with him...' I warned myself and will keep that in mind that my enemy is not an ordinary person.
"Okay. We're here. Get out." He told me.
"Where are we?"
"We're at my house. Now, get out."

"Follow me. We have important matters to discuss." He said while walking to the porch and unlock the door.

"Make us a drink. Hot drink." He told her so she must be his servant.
"Sir." Called an old man, just show up from nowhere. There's a brief case on his hands. Their master take the brief case and take out a paper and a ball pen. He hands in the paper to me and I read the bold words. 
*MARRIAGE AGREEMENT*
"What is this? What is this for?" I asked to him. I start to feel uneasy about this situation right now.
"That is for u and I. For us." He answer, monotones.

I'm still left to my own thoughts I'm barely able to feel I don't know how long ,I stay awake or how I'm able to have complex thoughts as I am fetus with barely a functioning brain It's probably, some Comic book logic ,like how superman can carry a plane with out anything to push off. Anyway it's not really boring say it's more it's more like stay awake for a bit and go back to sleep.

Gosh... I sighed to a long exhale of boringness.

"And were going out to dinner tonight." I say nonchalantly. 
"WHAT?!" Kylie questions, jerking up from her previous position. 
"He's picking me up at six." I reply, looking out the window. 
"Well, we better get you ready, because it's already five." She said in an urgent tone. 
Already?
"I still have time." I say. 
"Amelia, sweetie, when it comes to dates, you have to get ready at LEAST an hour before you go out." Kylie explained, patronizing me throughout her wise explanation. 
"Wow. Such wise words for someone who's had two boyfriends in all twenty two years of her life." I joked, making her growl. 
"Let's just get you ready." 
"Ugh, fine." I groan, following her into her room. 
"First, we have to find you the perfect dress," Kylie started looking through her closet to find whatever the hell SHE thought suited ME. 

After about ten minutes, Kylie had laid out three dresses on her bed. One was a red velvet dress, the second was a royal blue color, and the third was a leather black dress that had a slit in the middle that would end up showing off my midriff. 
Oh come on, isn't it obvious
"Which one do you like the most?" Kylie asked, looking over at me. 
"Which one do you think?" I say. 

Kylie smirked and handed me the black dress. I headed into her bathroom and changed, once I'd dusted myself off and done a 360 in the mirror, I came to the conclusion that I looked extremely hot. 
This'll drive him MAD

I walked out and gave Kylie a little twirl and posed for her. 
"GODDAMN! You should wear my dresses more often!" 
I gave her a smile and batted my eyelashes at her. 
"Now, for your makeup." She says, pulling me back into her bathroom. 
I guess I'm a rag doll again
"So, since you're already gorgeous and shit, I think we should just go for mascara and a red lipstick." She simply said. 
"Uh, aren't you forgetting blush?" I ask.
"Oh right. I forgot you're obsessed with it and overuse it." 
"I only overuse it because of my complexion. It's not MY fault I'm not a pale Swedish model." I snap, glaring at her through the mirror. 
"Whatever you say." She muttered, leaving me to my arts and crafts session. 

*20 Minutes Later* 
Although I only put on mascara, lipstick, blush, and light eyeshadow it still took me TWENTY FUCKING MINUTES. As the time went on, my nerves made their presence aware. 

I dashed out of the bathroom and checked the time. 
5:40 
I let out a sigh of relief. 
Even though I only had twenty minutes left, it was better than nothing. I walked into Kylie's room to find her reading. 
That's new. I guess we're ALL going out of our comfort zones now. 
"Hey, can I borrow a pair of black stilettos?" I ask, toying with the right ponytail I'd pulled my hair into. Kylie was about to answer, but when she looked up, she froze. 
"What? Oh god, did I stain the dress?" I ask desperately. 
"No...no. You just look....AMAZING!" She squealed, walking my way and giving me a small hug. 

Kylie looked in the drawers that she kept her shoes in, 
Yes, she DOES have MORE than one drawer for her shoes.
And finally pulled out a pair of black stilettos that looked about four inches high. 
That'll take me up to a good 5'6" 

I smiled and looked at the time again. 
5:50. Perfect. 
Kylie and I gave each other kisses on the cheek as a goodbye and I headed out. I knew it'd get cold this evening after reading the weather report, so, I brought a white leather jacket and my favorite Prada bag that I'd had for a good four years. It was a birthday present from my sister and ever since then, I took with me almost everywhere. 

On the way down, I checked my phone for any messages from Slater, but I hadn't gotten anything. 
Maybe he's just being a responsible driver 

As much as I wanted to text him and ask him where he was, I just told myself not to get too attached. 
You never know what goes on with these popular boys 

Once I'd reached the building's front door, I pushed it open and saw that his car was right there, and there he was leaning on the passenger's side. 

He was wearing a suit, which somehow, made me feel underdressed or a bit slutty. 
Whatever, that's my brand anyway 

I waved at him and did my best to hide the ginormous smile that was trying to make itself shown. 
"Good evening princess." He says, beaming at me. 
"Good evening sir." I say, curtseying. 

I saw him bite his lip and look me up and down. 
"You look stunning tonight." 
"Please, I'd look better without all this on." I tease as he opened the door for me. 

He got in on the other side and chuckled. 
"Is that an invite?" He asked. 
"I guess we'll have to see, won't we?" 
"I guess we will." He nodded, hiding a smirk. 

He started the car and we headed off. 

*10 Minutes Later* 
We were only a few minutes into the car ride when I asked the dumbest question possible. 
"So, where are we going?" 
"Let's just say it's somewhere you love." He replied, not taking his eyes off the road. 
Could you be more vague please? 

I nodded even though that didn't give me ANY type of clue. There were so many restaurants and diners in LA that I loved, so I just gave up on the mission of finding out what the hell he was talking about. 

A few minutes passed and I felt a warmth on my knee. At first, I tensed up, but then I looked down and saw that it was just Slater's hand. 
Thank God, I was about to smack whatever the fuck it was 

As the minutes passed, I could feel the warmth move higher and higher until he reached my inner thigh. I let out a shaky breath and swatted his hand away. 
"Ow." He whined. 
"Focus in the road for now. Then, MAYBE you can focus on me." I say in a low tone, knowing it'd bug him all night. 
"Right." He said.

When Amelia gets into an “FWB” type relationship with her arch-nemesis, she finally realizes what she’s been missing out on. But, on her annual trip to Pennsylvania, she finds out he’s going to be a bigger part of her than she thought.


"Selection for the day," Licht monotones. His random weapon materializes in his dominant hand, "Ah. The scythe." Licht spun his scythe with a small smile. It had brought back good memories. Back on earth, he had watched a TV show where the main character was the grim reaper. His brother had liked it.

He frowned and shook his head. He couldn't get distracted now, maybe in the further future, he could go back. But for now...

"Whoa." Licht remarks as he twists his body in an unnatural angle, effectively dodging Dale's attempt to pounce on him. Everyone in the crowd flinches as if feeling his pain, "Is he crazy?" Elizabeth questions herself, ignoring the crowd's murmurs.

A crack is heard as Licht stretches out of his awkward position, "Something definitely broke." He grumbles to himself, before swinging the blunt handle at Dale. Licht's blow connects, and Dale is sent flying like a baseball. He crashes into the wall before the staircase, the force sends lines of cracks to spread.

Growls are heard as Dale struggles to get on his feet, as soon as he got up on one knee, he crumbles down a few seconds later. Licht walked up to the man who refused to give up. He was on all fours as he growled and snarled hatefully at Licht.

"Taking into account," Licht began. "If one is not in the right state of mind, what will be stronger?" He questioned. Elizabeth strained her ears; she could see his lips moving faintly but she couldn't hear him. She was too far to hear him.

"Fear? Or maybe your strange hate for me." He drawls out as he slowly lifted his eyepatch. His pupils narrow, as he directed substantial amounts of killing intent towards Dale. His breathing halts, as a strange pressure weighs on him. He begins foaming at the mouth, "M-monster. Y-y-you...m-mon..ster." He finally chokes out before losing consciousness. 

Licht places the cloth back over his eye, 'Sure! Why not just pass the exam in the flashiest way possible?!' He could already imagine Viscar scolding him with those words. Though, it's not like he had a choice. That Dale fellow was definitely out for blood.

  Men and women in white clothes came and began tending to Dale. There were a lot of panicked yells from them, but Licht could tell that Dale was doing fine. At least his heart was still beating...albeit faintly. Overall, Licht could say that passed his exam without any major problems. 

Still, no one dared to make eye contact with the kid with white hair and eyes that could see right through you.

Licht had not left his dorm for two days. His entrance into the school had already been predetermined, but he still had to wait for the semester to start before he will be allowed on school grounds. He hoped for a few days of peace and quiet, before school starts but he could not ignore the commotion that happened dead center of the dorm premises.

As soon as students heard the good news they 'whooped' and cheered. While others wailed when they hear the not-so-good news. 'Noisy' Licht thought to himself. He turned over and stared at the door. 

"Are you going to keep standing there?" He asked the figure behind the door. With clenched hands and a forced smile, Serece opened the door. 

"How did you know?" She asked, looking at the boy in front of her.

"I hope you know what you are doing sir." She speaks. "If a child, who doesn't even have noble blood, were to get a scholarship even the princess can't, ther-"

"Hold it." Viscar orders. He sighs, "Look Serece. I know you probably won't believe anything I say right now, but please I beg of you. Don't anger that kid. I'm doing this for the sake of the kingdom."

"Do I really have to answer that?" He stared back at her with seemingly soulless eyes. Serece shivered as she looked away. She swallowed as her throat felt dry. Was this fear? Why would she be afraid of a small child?

She cleared her throat, "Mr. Royule has asked to speak with you." She states ignoring the instincts that told her to run. Licht sighed, "Fine. I'm coming."
 
 Licht followed closely behind her with slumped shoulders and his hand in his pant pocket. His eyes unconsciously stray to the student applicants checking their results on a large board. He makes eye contact with a girl with red hair, Elizabeth. He watches as her face scrunches up in a snarl and as if replying, he gives a mocking smile.

“What are you doing, are trying to get us killed?! I can’t handle all these monsters by myself!” 

“Hmm? Is that how you talk to your master? Penalty one...”   

If you’re helping someone, do it right.

“I would like to make you a knight. I would be willing to even let you create your own order of knights. Do you accept?”

ELIZABETH 

Needless to say, I didn't sleep well that night. Sleep was never an issue for me. No matter how worst the day was I usually slept well. I love my bed. I would get into my bed think about all the things that were wrong, that weren't wrong and slowly drift into sleep as the thoughts engulfed me. I hate alarms but when you don't have anyone to wake you up , there's no other way. Well, not for me. I've mastered the art of self control so much that I actually do wake up at the time I want with out an alarm. Yeah I know I'm crazy talented. No but it's true, I've always been comfortable with my mind, my headspace, I lived in my head because I wanted to. I would make up stories, think about various possibilities because that was the only way I could cope up with the loneliness. So I give my mind instructions, things I want it to do. For example, I would tell my mind to wake me up exactly after an hour and I would open my eyes exactly after an hour! I've been doing this ever since I remember thinking , don't believe me , try it out yourself or Google it. If I tell my mind to shut up, it would, my head would be eerily calm. If I tell my mind to keep me company it would, I would remember the various stories I've read as a child, books I've read when i was bored at home or make up my own little stories. I think about art more often than I like too.Mostly I think about how different things would be if I didn't look like this, if I had a family, if I didn't have any of the money I had, the what-ifs mostly. I never think about my future, never ever. I promised myself not to do that after my 16th birthday. Ever since I was a child I would think about the future, thinking and hope that things would get better eventually, with time. But nope that didn't happen to me so I'm just gonna accept that my life's like this , atleast I'm getting there. But today I haven't thought about anything except Michael. Michael, Michael , more Michael. I thought about how beautiful his golden brown hair is, how dark his eyes are and how pale his skin is. I thought about how tall and lean he is and how it would feel to wrap my arms around his torso.Michael smelled wonderful, all the time.I wonder what perfume he uses. His voice, that held so much promise, see you El, I had the urge to kiss him on his cheek, wrap my arms around his neck and whisper see you, Michael in his ear. I wanted to get engulfed in his warmth, drink in his scent and lose myself in him. See you , El , my mind played those words over and over again and slowly I drifted into sleep. I woke up at 8 in the morning like every other day. What do I do now? I've told myself that I was gonna stay away from anything that would jeopardize my relationship with Aunt Rose. Right. So I'm gonna keep my eyes and hands to myself, my mouth shut and focus on the task ahead. Michael is gonna tutor me, find out that I'm utterly useless at math and hopefully we'll steer clear of anything uncomfortable, like biology for instance. Because the only biology I'm interested in is his. Nope. Not going there again. Math , we'll focus on math. After giving my mind strict instructions: keep your eyes and hands to yourself, do not speak unless it's necessary I headed to the brownstone. 

I was there at 9 O' clock sharp. Michael opened the door. Focus on the task, focus on the task. 

" Hey El, come in" I was combusting, my plan was getting back fired because I missed two very important things. First of all, Michael was wearing glasses, those full framed black glasses and he looked even more handsome than he was , why god why! And second of all, I forgot how good it felt when he called me El. He was wearing a black T shirt and grey sweatpants he wore yesterday. 

" Where's Aunt Rose?" 

" She's taking a shower, she's going to visit someone later.Come-on make yourself comfortable, did you have breakfast?" 

Oh no! We're going to be alone!??the two of us? Whyyyy!??? Come-on Elizabeth, you can do better. Focus. 

" Um, no I didn't eat anything , breakfast would be nice" I quietly mumbled. 

" What do you want to eat? Omelette? Sandwich?" 

" An omelette would be nice " I was well aware of the fact that Michael was speaking very comfortably with me and I was speaking like a robot. You know how robots speak, those automated responses, flat monotone voices with a stiff posture , since it is a machine, yeah that's exactly how I was behaving. 

" Are you gonna make the omelette yourself?" 

" Who else is here to make?" He replied taking the eggs and other ingredients. 

No, he was not going to make me breakfast. 

" Um, it's okay, I can make it myself" 

That made him smile, like really smile. 

" Do you know how to cook?" 

He thinks I can't cook? What the fuck! Of course I can't cook but that doesn't mean he's gonna think that. Right, so this how it's gonna be . I'm gonna hold on to things I hate about him since he's literally a personification of perfection. 

He thinks I can't cook. Hold on to it. 

" What makes you think I can't cook" I asked a bit agitated. 

" You can?" I didn't miss the surprise in his voice, he was battering the eggs at the moment. 

" No I can't" I said flatly 

" Thought so" he said smiling at me and then he proceeded to make the fluffiest omelette I've had in a while. Now Sandra was a professional chef. So she would obviously cook well. Michael on the other hand is only 17 yrs old. He can't cook like this, he shouldn't cook like this , the hell he shouldn't look like this and why the fuck was he wearing glasses!!!. Hold on to the hate, he thinks you can't cook, that you are incompetent, that you are useless. 

" Orange juice?" He was treating me like a princess. No he's treating you like a kid you little shit, he thinks you can't do anything yourself. Hold on to the hate. 

" Yes please, the omelette is delicious thank you" I managed to say admist my internal debate. 

" Michael makes the best omelettes" Aunt Rose said from behind. She was wearing a floral print shirt and jeans. She looked lovely. 

" Under expert training" Michael winked at his mom. Ughhh! Kill me right now 

" Honey, I'm gonna be back for lunch, I have some errands to run, will you be okay" I love how considerate she is. She's the best 

" Of course I'll be okay, go ahead" 

"Okay " she said and kissed my cheek. 

" Michael , clean the kitchen, do the dishes and close the door" she ordered and Michael just nodded. With that Aunt Rose left leaving the two of us. Michael bolted the door and took my plate and glass. This is too much. 

" There's no maid? You know house help?". 

" Mom hates house help, so I am house help" Michael laughed. Oh 

"I'll help you" I said and walked further into the kitchen. 

" Have you ever done dishes , El" what did he say? I only got the El. 

" Haha , I thought so" I just stood there staring at him. What the fuck. 

" Um, I never had to, that's all" 

" Yeah I understand, mom always made do my things myself. 

"Hand me some gloves" I said and we did the dishes together, placed them in the dishwasher & cleaned the kitchen without even speaking a word to each other. Is this what couples do? Do house chores together? 

" So what shall we start with?" Taking our clothes off I thought to myself. 

" The basics" I whispered. No closed spaces. No closed spaces. So I made it a point to sit in the living room with my things placed infront of me. Michael got the hint and ran upstairs to get to his things. My heart was beating wildly. How long should I endure this? This is torture! 

Michael returned with all his things and started going through his notes. My notes was brand new while he had 3 full written notes. Great, here goes nothing. So he really did start at the basics and explained various concepts but I absolutely could not focus on any one of them . The only things I focused on were his eyes and lips. How they are moving, how his eyes moved back and forth. Sometimes he used his hands , those big hands with slender fingers. Sometimes he would run his hand through his hair and it would get messy, he would scratch his jaw, that's currently covered in stubble. And the worst thing was he wore his glasses and he would adjust them from time to time. I don't know what happened but he suddenly stopped.Is my mouth hanging open? Why did he stop? He just stopped abruptly and looked at me. Tick tick tick, we were staring at each other. 

" What's wrong" my voice barely came in a whisper. Why is my body betraying me!? 

" What are doing" he asked calmly. What is he talking about? 

" What do you mean?" I said flatly. 

" Are you even paying attention?" 

" Of course I am" I lied 

" What did I just say" he asked running his hand on his jaw. Um, I don't know so I didn't say anything. 

" That's what Im talking about" he said running his hand through his hair. 

" Do you even want to do this?" he asked with exasperation. That's it! I got my hate point. He's patronizing me! I'm gonna hold on to it with my arms and legs tight. 

" Right the last thing I want is someone belittling me" I said furiously and started gathering my things. I'm gonna leave, my mind's short circuited right now and I didn't anticipate him cross questioning me.I thought I would just nod and fake something and get the hell out of here. But no, I can't make a fool out of myself any longer. Was I drooling? was it that evident? Ughh , the walk of shame. 

" What!! Are you leaving? I didn't mean it like that okay, " he said springing onto his feet. 

" Yes, I'm leaving, I don't know why I was here in the first place" I stated sternly.

Chapter 34: Art Exhibit, Part 1
The night of my first exhibit arrived.
I admit that it is so weird to see my brothers in formal attires. 
Corey said that they are just going to my exhibit because they wanted free good food.
If my brothers are looking too formal, I’m even more dressed. I was wearing a royal blue sleeveless cocktail dress, which mom bought for me. My hair was even curled.
“Darling, wouldn’t you want to put something a little?” Mom asked me as we loaded inside the car.
“Mom, make-up is just like glue in the face,” I said. 
I merely combed my hair and checked if there’s lettuce stuck in between my teeth at my pocket mirror.
“Geez, so excited for another buffet!” Greg cheered.
“And oh, like pasta, chicken cordon bleu, sundae, shrimps, oysters….I could go on and on!” Corey added.
I rolled my eyes as I sarcastically says, “Oh yeah…thank you for your support, my brothers!”
“Count us in!” They both chorused. I rolled my eyes again.
“At least, I will be able to study the modern artists style of applying color schemes and …” Trevor begins with one of his genius expectations. And all of a sudden, all of us chorus: "Einstein!”
Then everyone high-fived each other. Trevor frowned.
“Hailey, did you paint about three-eyed aliens or captain America or something?” Andy asked.
“You'll see,” I replied.
I frowned when I remembered what’s waiting for me tonight. What if the people wouldn’t like what I painted? What if other paintings are more beautiful, colorful, expressive, poetic, or much different than mine? 
And now I’m showing the real world about the world I kept on escaping to. It’s like a secret that will soon be revealed and now, am I ready to give a part of myself to strangers who might not understand? 
And I still have to explain my painting in front of everyone! Public speaking!
And how about Elaine, Christine, and Terence? Will they have the heart to support me? 
“What’s with the frown, painter?” Dad asked through the rearview mirror.
“I’m not sure if I could make it…” I trailed
“Hailey, I know you can do it.” He assured as I kept quiet the whole time throughout the ride. Maybe I am saving up my energy for the things that are waiting for me.
Fancy cars with their sophisticated security alarms lined up the school parking area. Media people gathered around with their cameras and microphones. 
I could feel my legs weakening in every step I take. I didn’t know that this exhibit is that significant to be covered by the media. Maybe I should have put on make-up if there are cameras around. I’ll be caught as dead pale on TV! Wait…wait! TV! Will I be on TV?
“C’mon, Mrs. Picasso….” Corey grabbed my arm. Greg closed the door behind me.
So we entered through the enormous hall, bright white lights from the chandeliers illuminated the spaces, bringing festivity among people in indistinct conversations, sharing thoughts and arguments about art. 
My family left me alone to explore the gallery. 
Trevor went to the abstract paintings section, Andy went to the dinosaur sculptures, mom and dad found some people they knew and got engaged in conversations while of course, Greg and Corey went to the buffet area. Butlers roamed around the hall holding champagne and serving the fancy guests.
I didn’t know that there are more people awaiting inside with the ladies in red stilettos and men in suit and ties. 
I didn’t know that tight businessmen in suit and ties with polished leather shoes are interested to look at amateur paintings. I could see them indistinctly talking to each other in their monotones upon discussing the paintings. 
My heart is giddy as I turn everywhere. I could feel Picasso and Michaelangelo’s souls dancing in redeemed glory. 
There are paintings of poignant representations of life in different themes of renewed friendship, mother’s love, LGBT advocacies, and peaceful thinking. 
There are paintings that expressed the darker realities in life such as abortion, mercy-killing, suicide, and even abandoned children. Woah, I didn’t know that high school artists could express and paint this way.
Mr.  approached me. He is wearing a suit, and as usual, two buttons at the middle of his buttoned-down white polo couldn’t hold each other.
“Hailey! Thank you for your contribution to the success of the annual art gallery. Have you prepared for your speech interpretation?” 
“No, Mr. Carlos. I’m thankful you believed in me that’s why I’m here today,” I replied. “I will be ready for my speech.”
“And oh…” He is scratching his head. “There was one invitation lying at my desk this morning, and I called up someone in the last minute whom might be interested to be here.”
I smiled sarcastically. Seriously, I don’t really care who that someone was anyways. “Well, he or she is lucky tonight!”
“Sure is!” He sounded delighted. “Alright, alright…I’ll be around. Gotta talk to my other artists!” He whistled to a butler to serve him a glass of champagne.
“See you around, Mr. Carlos!” I called.
I went to see more paintings at the surreal section wherein someone painted one of their dreams. The painter must have been bothered with his or her dream because the painting shows people hugging pigs and crabs while a giant is eating them. Somehow the painting scared me with its dark theme. I turned away and almost tripped when someone caught me in time.
I gasped.
“Good evening, Hailey.”
Stephen. He showed up again in the most unlikely places. The least person I know who would be here. 
“Oh, hey, you’re here.” I clumsily pulled back my arms.
“Excuse me.” Terence appeared behind me. “Hey, Steph.”
“Hey, dude.”
They both give each other a bro fist. I scrutinized them both. I didn’t know that they knew each other.
 I couldn’t believe that Stephen almost knew everyone in school.
“Hailey invited me to be her date tonight,” Terence announced as he stood next to me. I was glaring at him. I am surprised that he would take it that way. And he had to say it in front of Stephen.
“Ah…that’s good,” Stephen said, his expression is unreadable. I couldn’t read what he might be feeling or thinking, any sign of jealousy, anger or apathy isn’t showing. 
“Nice paintings, Hailey. I didn’t know you had it in you so much. And good luck for later.” 
Terence and I watched him walked away.
“Are you alright?” Terence asked me. I think he noticed that I was stiff the whole time that we were talking to Stephen.
“I guess I’m just nervous,” I answered.
 More people arrived. I swallowed a lump in my throat. 
How could I talk in front of all these people without dying in front of them? What if I mispronounced three words during my speech? What if the microphone isn’t working? What if I slip while walking at the platform?
It would’ve been easier if Elaine and Christine were here.
“My friends are not here. I think they’re not coming.” I sighed.
“They will be here, Hailey. Trust me.” He patted my back as he led me at the back of  the exhibit platform. All the artists were crowding behind a big white curtain before their turn to reveal themselves and explain their creation inn front of everyone.
A platform was prepared for each artist to step on and explain the themes of their creations. 
My palms were sweating by the mere thought of it. I stayed by my exhibits as I rehearsed my speech in my head until a bell rang to grab everyone’s attention. 
We all listened to Sir Carlos who was wearing a very wide smile on his face.
“Good evening, ladies and gentlemen…”
He began narrating about how and why the annual amateur art exhibit came to be. 
I learned that a few years ago, a group of professional artists from different towns wanted to build a network of amateur artists through art exhibits in each of their towns. 
Mr. Carlos is part of those professional artists whose main goal is to give serious attention to amateurs.
“…because how can we recognize the future Amorsolos and Picassos if we won’t give their art to flourish? Without further rambling from me anymore [people laughed]… let’s get to know them already…”
Mr. Carlos called all of the artists in front in order to be introduced formally before allowing each one to explain one of his or her paintings.
I was second to the last. The order at the program informed me that I will talk after the boy named Robert Lee. Robert Lee has Mohawk hair and is wearing a three-piece suit. Before Robert could finish his speech about his painting, hands grabbed me from behind.
I almost screamed, but my heart leaped when I saw who grabbed me.
“Elaine? Christine? Oh my gosh! It’s really the two of you!” 
We embraced each other as if I haven’t seen them, as if years tore us apart. 
When I pulled away, I was shaking my head out of disbelief. “Thank you… thank you for being here.” 
My eyes were watery, but I didn’t want to cry. Not before my speech that might ruin my face and my voice.
“Of course, we’ll be here! We wouldn’t miss it for the world!” Elaine embraced me again.
“C’mon, laine! Hailey still needs to talk in front of everyone here!” Christine said with matching hand gestures. I smiled and then I embraced her again. 
I know that she hates emotional situations, but I love her for that. And I miss them for this. I couldn’t believe that they’re actually here for me.
“…that was such a different kind of metaphorical representation about life with the bamboos. And now, to explain the painting “Mirror,” let us call on Hailey Madrigal from Wrenchplains  High School….”
“I am sorry for everything… I should have told you everything sooner but I was afraid of hurting you. I was afraid that I’ll both lose you in the end—
“Hailey! Of course, you wouldn’t lose us. We will never leave you. Maybe we just needed time to think, you know!” Elaine cut me off.
“..And now let us call on for Hailey Madrigal…”
“Hailey! Mr. Carlos is calling you now!” It was Christine who got me back to my senses. I realized why I was here in the first place.
“Oh!” I laughed and then I clumsily gather myself as I tucked any loose strands beneath my ear and then frustratingly wiped my sweaty palms with my skirt. 
I could feel the perspiration forming at my head, my heartbeat speeding and a lump forming in my throat.
“And once again, I am pleased to introduce Ms. Hailey Madrigal… the painter of the piece ‘Mirror’…”
I’m ready for my speech.



Book 1: Freshman Hailey
Pensive and wide-eyed Hailey Madrigal thinks that being a freshman in high school will finally earn her some respect in her family.

As an active member of the Young Volunteers Club, Christine Peralta was chosen to represent Wrenchplains High School in the town's Beauty Pageant. The problem is, well, she detests beauty pageants! 
But because the pageant promises a scholarship to college if she wins and a chance to raise awareness for coastal clean-up , she becomes motivated to the point to even asking Dana Ferrer to mentor her.

Aside from balancing her time with her volunteer works, academics, friendships, and preparation for the beauty pageant, she must also support her boyfriend, Corey Madrigal, in joining a national singing competition and who might just make the toughest decision in his life.


Book 4: Senior Trio

Recovering from her big break-up, Hailey Madrigal is setting her eye to moving out of town for preparatory college but not without her mother's pleas to stay closer to home. But the course of her love life and the results of her college applications exceed her expectations in the end.

Elaine Trancy doesn't know what to do after high school, so she travels all over town and talked to strangers for advice. But will she listen to people's advice or will she follow her own's life path?

Christine Peralta became an instant celebrity for  dating Corey Madrigal, her successful musician boyfriend who dropped out of high school. 

She was also able to taste the glamourous life too as a Beauty Queen by becoming a celebrity in her own right. But is it really the life she wants after high school?
