Chapter 3 

MY CRACK BOSS 

(Story) 

 

 When I was working in Public Sector Enterprise as PS, at one point of time, I was posted to Technical Information Center attached to a Senior Technical Officer by Name Mr. Raghuram (He is no more now). I had to face, confront, combat and argue and discuss with him regarding official matters as well as mine and his personal matters at few times in leisure time. He is a funny guy. He was Erratic too at times. He sometimes used un-parliamentary language with high tempers. I would like to narrate some of the brief below, as my memory goes on with deep thinking on the subject. I feel the readers would like to go through below incidents with interest. 

 
 

 During the year 1985, I was posted as PS to one Mr. Raghuram, Senior Technical Officer at the Technical Information Centre (TIC) at Public Sector Enterprise. He was 6 feet height (Mr. Raghuram died later). He was M.Sc qualified with distinction and was having very good command over English. He was aged 40 years then. e was having goodteH He was having good technical knowledge on microprocessors, chips and other related matters. He was a good writer on technical subjects. 

 
 

 There was one problem existing with him. He was too sharp, sensitive and responds very quickly. He was aggressive, short tempered and very straight forward. He was also little bit crack. His mind gets disturbed on and off regularly. He sometimes becomes wild. He shouts and bangs people with un-parliamentary language in English. While entering in to factory premises, while passing through security gate, he goes on murmuring, shouting at company appointed security guards’ and officers. He never hears anybody’s voice; but, he only goes on speaking, speaking and speaking. Sometimes, Mr. Raghuram speaks himself. He was notorious, famous and well recognized by the entire company employees, as one of the “loose mind fellow”, “crack man”, “mental man”, “shouting man”, “upset man”, “mad man”, troublesome man” and “rash man” “semi-crack fellow” and what not. 

 
 

 There was a requirement of one experienced Personal Secretary, needed to the Technical Information Centre, to work under Mr. Raghuram. Suddenly, I was posted and asked to work under him. 

 
 

 In those days, I was too active, sportive and very fast at work in Stenography and typing. My terrific speed in typing @ 60-65 WPM and fastest noting down in English @ 120 WPM speed was well received by my boss. Of course, my boss was very happy with me. 

 
 

 When I reported to him, after posting at the Technical Information Centre of my company, I was surprised to see his cabin where he was sitting (with a big officers table and four good chairs). When I saw his cabin walls, all the walls are written with marker pens, pencils and other color pens, like Dr. Raghuram, Professor Raghuram, Senior Technical Officer, Specialist in TIC and many slogans. Total cabin walls are written with his unwanted matter. I was surprised to see all the writings. Then I thought myself that, he was having some loose mind and a semi-crack fellow. 

 
 

 I just got adjusted with my boss and worked for him for two long years. But, he was, however, good with me. He used to permit me to go out of Lunch hour without returning back to office. Mr. Raghuram was signing ‘permission letters’ for me to regularize my attendance, because I was to produce these permission letters to “Time Office In charge” located at the main gate security gate. I used to take the benefit of permissions facility for my personal sake. Almost for every alternative day, I used to utilize the permissions to leave the factory after lunch hour. 

 
 

 When some letters are prepared for him officially, the covers were used to drop into the Post Box located outside the security main gate. He used to drop the covers after affixing the required postal stamps. The Boss also used to drop some 50 paise coins, one rupee note or coin in the Post Box. When, I observed this, I was following him to the Post Box. I asked my boss, why did you put money in to the Post Box along with covers? The reply from my boss was – the Postman collects my covers and collects my money from the Post Box. He carries the letters to the Post Office for further actions. This is the regular feature of my boss. 

 
 

 In leisure time, I just had a conversation with my boss, which is as follows: 

 
 

Boss: Tell me PS, what is that you want to ask me?- 

PS: Sir, sometimes you are erratic, irritant and crack. What 

 is the reason? 

 
 

Boss: Who said, I am erratic, irritant and crack. I sometimes 

 behave like that. 

 
 

PS: What is the reason for your behavior like that? 

Boss: I have to check people like that. 

PS: Most people think you are semi crack? What is the 

 reason? 

 
 

Boss: I am a semi-crack sometimes on subject based. Most 

 people are full Cracks. 

PS: Why the Management sidelined you, sir? 

 
 

Boss: I don’t know. You ask the Management. 

 
 

PS: Why you have been dropped from promotion to next 

 cadre as Technical Manager? 

 
 

Boss: I don’t know. The Management better knows the reason. 

 
 

PS: Are you not hurt, if you are not given promotion? 

 
 

Boss: I just take it easy. I don’t regret. I don’t feel sorry. I make 

 others hurt. 

 
 

PS: You are dropped for promotion 3-4 times so far, why? 

 
 

Boss: It is up to the Management to give the promotion or not. 

 Leave alone getting a promotion, I am not sacked on 

 Fictitious grounds for which I am thankful to the 

 Management. 

 
 

PS; You behave erratically and become irritant at house? 

 
 

Boss: Yes, of course. My house is my kingdom. 

 
 

PS: What makes you irritant, erratic and crack at house? 

 
 

Boss: You ask my wife and children. Reasons may be plenty. 

 
 

PS: Why did you not check up your physical health and 

 Mental health with any psychiatric doctor? 

 
 

Boss: Why? It’s waste of money. I am not for feeding doctors 

 and lawyers. 

 
 

PS: How can you improve your mental resistance and 

 balance of mind? 

 
 

Boss: If people don’t disturb me. 

 
 

PS: Even if you are not disturbed, you behave sometimes 

 Erratic, becomes crack and irritant. 

 
 

Boss: God only answer your question. But, I am alright now 

 and then. 

 
 

 In another major incident, my boss used to do good correspondence with some of the American companies at United States. On one certain occasion, he invited American Company accredited Representative to visit our Company at Hyderabad (India). My boss did not take any permission or approval in writing from our company for inviting the Representative of the American Company. Generally, as per the protocol, when any foreign officials are invited, our company will have to bear all the TA, DA, Accommodation costs including local transportation. Nothing has been arranged in this case. On one fine day, the American Company Rep visited our company, carrying the letters written by my boss Mr. Raghuram. The foreign official approached the CEO and the Managing Director of our company and other Technical Directors. Mr. Raghuram met the visiting American official and had formal discussions on various technical points. 

 
 

 At the concluding day of the discussions, the foreigner asked TA, DA, Accommodation and other local charges and the visiting cost etc. Our Company officials had a red face and were shocked for the claim of Three Lakh Indian Rupees by the American company Rep. The request for reimbursement was turned down by the company management. Then the American Rep threatened to bring this issue to the notice of American Embassy at New Delhi. As a face saving and to retain our Company reputation in the business circles, our company was constrained to pay all the costs to the American company representative. However, my boss was banged left and right by our top management for writing unauthorized letters to foreign company, without the knowledge and permission of the Technical Directors and CEO. 

 
 

 When the Voluntary Retirement Scheme was introduced in all the Public Sector Undertakings in India, my boss opted this VRS scheme. The management immediately within one month accepted his VRS application and relieved him from the company. In later years my boss died due to ill-health.

A classic short story should have from 20,000 to 40,000 words. But this does not apply to our novels on DAO.

 journey to defeat the ultimate evil (Mr.Smiles) and goes on a journey taking his two friends Kamiko and Kiharu along with him. 


He will face life-threatening dangers but with the help of his two friends it'll be done in no time!


But will his past uncover the truth and will the journey come to an end?

Two editors in the editorial department of Nature Chemistry were working on the newly received manuscripts.
After all, this was one of the top journals in the world. Every manuscript they received had to undergo scrutinized review.
Although the majority of these theses would be heading for the garbage bin, some of them were excellent.
Suddenly, Kevin, who was reading the manuscripts, shouted.

Although Nature was a good choice, there were many other organic chemistry journals that Lu Zhou could consider. However, Lu Zhou's objective was to promote his new technology, so in this regard, there was no other journal that had the same level of impact as Nature.
Now that the thesis was in the hands of professionals, it should be a lot easier. Lu Zhou believed that his peers would give his thesis a fair evaluation.

During the interview, Lu Zhou reminded them that he would not let them cruise through their master's. Every day would be fulfilling.
Qin Yue asked, "What if someone doesn't pass the test?"
You had to pass the test if you wanted to join the project. If you did not pass, it meant that you could not graduate?
Studying abroad was a rare opportunity, so Qin Yue naturally was concerned about this problem.
Lu Zhou said, "Then you would have to study and make coffee for me until you pass the test, but I think you should be more confident. The reason I chose you guys, is because I think you guys can meet my requirements."
Compared to Qin Yue, Hardy was a little cocky. He was not even worried about the test. Instead, he asked, "Professor, what is the project about?"
Of course, Lu Zhou did not reveal the project directly. He only smiled.
"It's related to hail."

"Oohhh! Scary ghost writing!" Luna says excitedly.
"Right." Kyra says looking the ghost who hasn't shown himself in the eyes.
"Where did Scooby and Shaggy go?" Kyra asks
Daphne looks around before shrugging her shoulders.
"You aren't worried about them?" Kyra asks
"Not really they well, they are always the bait because they can run super fast." Fred says 
"Fred get a shot of that!" Daphne shouts 
"Right." Fred says 
"Simone could you stand next to me please?" Daphne asks

"Here we are in ms. Simone Lenoir's kitchen where we had our first encounter with the supernatural spirits of moonscar island. You can feel the chill in the air." Daphne says as a breeze blows through the house.
"Who opened a window!" Daphne shouts before they all look over to see a window that won't open over the sink and that is it.
Beware is quickly scratched into the wall while they all looked away.
"Fred keep filming maybe we can capture more supernatural events." Daphne says 
Kyra suddenly giggles.
"You act like you haven't seen a real ghost before." Kyra says 
"Of course we haven't." Velma says 
Kyra giggles abit more.
"Well, you are no longer kids in a malt shop." Kyra says as that causes the 3 members of the gang to stop and look at her.
"Sam, Dean, and Castiel." Kyra says slowly and methodically as she watches them slowly remember.
"H-how do you know all of this?" Fred stammers out Daphne and Velma look terrified.
"Well, those three are some of the best hunters I know." Kyra says 
While Miss Lenoir looks at Kyra with a hand behind her back which turns into a cat claw.
"What do you mean by hunters?" Ms. Lenoir asks
"Monster hunters of course, there is a number one rule when it comes to hunting too. Always do your research. With the information I managed to find out about the disappearances here, I was able to narrow it down to two things a succubus or maybe ghouls. However no offense Miss Lenoir but I'm not attracted to you so that rules at one, and I also saw you eat human food." Kyra says
"I could be a vampire." Simone says
"You are awake right now and I have seen you seem comfortable in sunlight so, I'm comfortable ruling that out." Kyra says 
"How do you know all of these?" Velma asks not freaking out like last time the bandaid was ripped off.
"Well, most of it can be found through folklore and fairytales. Well besides vampires, they managed to spread Miss information about their race. With them the best thing to do is decapitate them then burn the body. Unless of course you have a holy artifact." Kyra says 
As the hand behind Miss Lenoir's back goes back to a human one.
"That is certainly interesting." Lena says 
"So when your daughter shouted you were here to hunt zombies?" Daphne asks
"Well yeah... you are going to need to delete the footage of me saying it's all real." Kyra says
"But..." Daphne says 
"If you wanna keep your memory you need to delete the footage." Kyra says as she pulls out a fake neuralyzer.
"Wait, does that thing actually work?" Velma asks
"Are you really going to ask that question." Kyra says as Fred does some quick editing and cuts out that part of the video as Kyra watches it get deleted.
"To think you would be using a digital camera." Kyra says shocked
"We have a good technical person." Daphne says glancing at Velma.
"Great, well I wonder where Scooby and Shaggy went." Luna
"That's a good question." Fred says

I wanna admit now this is my second ever book. At the start, I wasn't that good at keeping track of things like time there are times when I meant to jump months and it seems like its the next day. There are times when I mean to time skip years and it was only months. The first 7 chapters are there and a mess I am sorry about that, its been over a year since I have written them and I still do not know how to fix them.  Im really only keeping this book here because it is A End. It is gonna be my last fanfic when I finish it and I like to read it sometimes to see my own growth as a writer.



Imagine a small church. A different parish church, in the same diocese, from the one previously mentioned. Now I mean very small, a chapel really. It had 20-30 seats within and an extra 10 or so were added every Sunday for additional parishioners just outside the door to participate in the service. 

The chapel was part of a larger building, with a kitchen and living room style space that served a larger group of people. There was a large front door, with two large bay windows either side of the front façade of a detached Victorian house-style building. The door led to a hallway, with a straight staircase on the right, and a door straight ahead. This led to a space, illuminated by the other bay window, with an array of seats and couches and a large coffee table. The kitchen space was in the back right corner, and on the other side were toilets and washing facilities. A long window lined the back of the kitchen, which looked out onto a small garden surrounded by a stone wall damaged by tree roots from trees just inside the boundary. On a regular basis, 10 or 15 people would gather around in the living room and have refreshments of tea, coffee and biscuits. In the summer months, the garden was popular for barbeques. 

The chaplaincy historically served students from the red brick city university, as well as the technical college nearby. It was opened in around 1920. John was studying Building Surveying, at the campus that used to be the technical college. He would often visit the chaplaincy at lunch time for a quick sandwich, or indeed a larger meal. There would often be a number of other students there, who would all be very welcoming and supportive of everything that was taking place in his life. He would also be very interested in the lives of the other students. However, at aged 19 to 23, he was painfully shy! 

The chaplaincy had events that ran throughout the year. These included trips away, which gave students a break from their lectures, studies and exams. John went on as many of these that he possibly could. There were also many events in the evenings at the chaplaincy, and John grew in personal confidence. The chaplaincy was a really good opportunity for John to step out of his comfort zone, as it was for many. John initially stuck to the 6 a side football team, as well as the lunch group on Wednesday. However, later in his time there he would partake in a wide variety of activities led by the society. Initially, he was very shy and low in confidence. Very occasionally, this manifested itself as an inferiority complex that he could do little about. 

One weekend, a group of about 15 to 20 students went on a weekend pilgrimage to a lovely setting in the Yorkshire countryside. It was a house, and grounds, similar to that in Sheffield and dedicated to group events and retreats. 

This retreat style setting was similar to the Chaplaincy, but a few miles further north. John travelled on a train with a number of people whom were all strangers to him. However, it became clear to John that this was a very welcoming and inclusive group of people. He made friends with a male and a female student almost immediately. They really made John feel in the presence of fellow Christians. The other male student was studying Maths. He was very interested in Johns' course, and so was John in return. On the way home, the student joked about John's knowledge of the construction of train seats! One of the landlord's family members, who owned the retreat location, had picked up John and the other students from the train station. John remembers the journey, and seeing the stars in the late evening sky. This was a very exciting time for him, despite of his underlying condition. 

The landlord of the house was a very generous family of Christian people. They were all very interested in the lives of the students, and looked after the priest they had travelled with. He was a long serving priest, and attended the retreat for certain parts of it. This included the mass, in the house chapel, at the end of the retreat for which he ministered for. He had served the Chaplaincy community since the 1980's, and was dearly loved by the society. 

The priest was approaching retirement near the end of John's university course. John considers elderly people to be extremely important in the UK. With age comes life experience, and wisdom that surpasses that of the young PHD student. When John was at a pivotal point, in his recovery from mental illness, it was elderly women who were the main source of love and wisdom that he needed. He did some gardening work for a particular individual. She was part of the Quaker movement, which is a denomination of Christianity. This denomination has a very spiritual element associated, centered on love and fellowship. They are a denomination very influential towards wider matters related to society. This includes the injustice related to the arms trade. 

The house they were now staying in had a varnished oak wooden staircase and a very Victorian feel to the house, with a cozily set out communal area for the students. There was a large open expanse of grass at the back. John remembers the prayer group he was in, that took place in this outside area, at the end of the retreat. He had prayed earnestly for the rest of his time at university, and his qualification. 

Prior to the prayer group on the last day, John had stayed in a bunk bed style arrangement with a group of three or four males, whom he became better acquainted with as the pilgrimage progressed. The weekend really helped him to become part of the group, and indeed feel welcome and loved. It was a mixed group, and one result of the weekend was that two other members were to become husband and wife having both graduated a few years later! 

Most of the pilgrimage was centered on prayerful activities, such as singing praise music and listening to inspiring talks from devout Catholic young people as well those from another denomination. This was the Evangelical church, and a young woman did a talk which John found very inspiring. She believed that faith, in a young person's life, should be a central foundation. The talk she gave challenged some very hot topics of the 21st century, such as materialism and the sexual revolution. After the talk, the group went on a walk through the countryside and visited a local Anglican church. John prayed there, having had a very spiritual conversation with a linguistics student. 

At the end of the retreat, John was feeling very tired and had his own university course to finish, and this was prominent in his mind. A very good friend of his, to this day, said something that still helps him in 2020. He said 'You've got nothing to worry about, because he loves you! He really does!' 

Between the years of 2009 and 2014, John's faith was central to his life. He had decided when he was 17 years old in 2009, to make a personal adult commitment to the Catholic faith when he received the sacrament of Confirmation. Prior to that, he had said on a very few occasions that he was an agnostic. However, on reflection he can now see that this position was influenced by his own personal experience of attending mass between the years of 1995 right up until the ceremony. He would even say that it was probably a position that he held related to the dogma of the church, rather than a belief in God as, indeed, the Loving Father of Creation. 

As a child, then a young teenage boy, his mind was not different to any of his peers when it came to impressionability and slightly hedonistic values. He enjoyed playing football, tennis and scrabble! Achievement, fun and success are portrayed to almost be virtues in our modern world. Catholicism is moving with the times, and modern praise and worship music is very popular in 2020. However, it is not an unreasonable view to take that much Catholic teaching emphasizes the need for reconciliation to create a certain amount of fear of God in committed lay people. It is also not unfair to say that this fear was an extremely small contributory factor to John being diagnosed with what used to be known as a type of 'Stress- Related illness'. He would conclude that the vast majority of his secular life experiences had contributed to this at a fundamentally more profound level. 

The level of fear and anxiety that John experienced at one stage in his life meant that he would stay in bed until 2pm, having gone to sleep at 8pm the previous evening. The reader of this story must be assured that there is no attack on the Catholic Church intended, even in the slightest. However, John became aware in his late twenties that often he would enter the confessional with very little evidence of what the church teaches as being mortal sin. He considers this not to be a result of naivety. The distinction must be made between John's fears, part of an underlying health problem, and the immense graces he has received from the sacraments. These sacraments include the Sacrament of Reconciliation which is also called the Sacrament of Confession. Upon leaving the confessional, when John has partaken, he has always received grace upon grace. 

When he was 20 years of age, in 2011, John was in the second year of a Building Surveying degree at the technical college of the city. He had always had an interest in drawing, writing and mathematics which sparked this career choice. However, when he was in this part of the course he felt a bit left out of the social scene of the course. Due to his condition, which had been labelled as the blanket term 'paranoid schizophrenia', he had to live at home for the entirety of his university course. This meant that he wasn't able to gain independence at this stage of his life, and didn't experience the university 'life' so to speak. 

In September 2011, he was introduced to the chaplaincy via a close family member who had found a suitable contact on the internet. What happened on the day of his initiation to this community was the first of a number of instances. These instances could be seen as planned by a greater power, or powers, as it details in the book 'Path to Edale'.

Signs and Wonders is a collection of the early works of the author John Mullen. Although the second book within has a very unique style, the overall piece presents a stark representation of someone's life in the UK. It is a religious book, that challenges secular philosophies, whilst explaining the importance of gratitude for the love received. The Catholic Church teaches that Jesus is love, and many believe that this is regardless of how this is manifested in society. However socialism and religion are shown together, pointing to the sum of a souls parts and their identity as God's children. 
The story addresses numerous issues in the world. Mental health, disability, racial inequality and the sexual revolution are a few of these. However, the book is a great read, not just for people with a religious background but for any man, woman or child. The first piece, Path to Edale, is the story of how anybody can accomplish their dreams despite wretched adversity. This story, which is the adventure of a lifetime, begins the overall message of hope of this novel length literary reflection.

A lesson that Evelina was rather enjoying.
"Now, the way you speak should hold the audience's attention. It presents your character, their pitch, the accent, the tone, what they emphasize-- it gives the role's clear emotion beyond facial expressions. That's why an actor's delivery of a line should be clear. One line could be interpreted in many ways, depending on how you say it and what emotions you were trying to give."
The vampiress' mind carelessly went to the times when West asked her if she was going to bite him. They held the same context, emphasizing how they were poles apart, yet how he repeated those words only recently offered something different for her.
The first one was alert and scared, like she was about to eat him up. While the latter was laced with  openness and something more. Something sensual.
Evelina shook her head frantically. Oh, she cannot be embarrassed now!
"What is it that you disagree with, Evelina?" Giles asked, calling her attention.
"I… If I disagree with something, I would have said it out loud. I am simply waking myself up because it suddenly felt unexciting."
The witch glared at her. "Waking yourself up?"
She grinned up at him. Giles knew that she was a vampire, it was expected that he would find her statement suspicious.
"If you're getting all that confidence from me telling you that you are doing well, check yourself. This is only one part of a whole."
He was not wrong, of course. But she was allowing herself to feel the shat short sense of pride that she would not let him spoil it for her.
Evelina blinked. "You must be mistaken! My confidence came from the fact that we must cut the training short. After all, everyone is already weary."
The truthfulness of her sentence came from the recruits beside her. None of them were speaking, most were just staring off to space, nodding their heads when Giles talked more of their lectures.  
It was rather dull not hearing their endless chatter, Evelina admitted to herself.
"You're overworking them, Giles."
The vampiress bit her lip when she heard his voice, trying to stop her lips from smiling.  
West stepped on the stage, arms crossed. His eyes were in a drowsy state like how the other recruits were, except that he seemed to have only been woken up from his slumber.
"Here comes the saviour," Giles whispered, although it was loud enough for them to hear it.
West groaned, rubbing his eyes. "Believe me, I'm not. I'm just telling you how it looks. Besides, all I came here for is because of Hellen."
"Hellen?"
"Yes. She yelled 'Finally!' and the next thing, I know was that she was pushing me off the bed, telling me to go and fetch everyone."
"So she is done with writing the script."
"I assume so.'
"Finally, indeed!"
Freeda leaned beside Evelina to whisper, "If we were to talk of screaming 'finally', it should be that we are finally getting the rest that we deserve."
"Should we yell it, too, then?" Mitchel jested.

What happens when a vampire joins a coven of witches?

Chosen as the vampire to continue their tradition, Evelina journeyed to the capital with a goal of observing her prey, planning her strike. It was her destiny to be there, her destiny to bathe in the most delicious type of blood amongst all.

What she did not expect was that she will find more of acting affairs than just bloodlusting because, bat's shriek, she just joined a theatre troupe! And with witches as actors? It was for her plans, she swear!

Until it became more to her than just a mere stepping stone.

Soon she must decide if her new found relations, the people she began treasuring, held more importance than the honor and respect she must get from her kind.

She joined them in their laughter, more mockingly than real. "Pardon but have I missed the joke?"

The protagonist beside her chuckled, moving closer to whisper. "Darling, we don't accept just anyone. Especially not a minx who thinks that she could get anything with just a twirl of her hair."
