I'm a pretty bad amateur writer and I'm just doing this for fun because there are only a few good marvel stories that are still being updated. 
I'll update when I get inspiration or can find the time to so please don't expect too much of me.

A cyberpunk neo-noir superhero series of short stories following the eponymous vigilante in his many adventures.

All last week the city was nothing but quiet, it was the complete opposite of quiet. There were multiple villains causing chaos through out the entire city. We caught all of them and then the city became very peaceful. Now whenever I watch the news all i see is stories about how we stopped a new villain. There were no theories about who people thought we were which I thought was very odd.


The next morning when I watched the news there was a report about who me and Yuri, and who we could possibly be when we're not superheroes. During that week there were new villains popping up all over the city. I was really wishing that the city would remain peaceful and quiet but that was not the case. By the time I got home I was exhausted, being a superhero is not easy. It's honestly really hard for me to juggle university and being a superhero.


Now that I think about it, was I really meant to be a superhero? I didn't get any sleep at all that night I just stayed up thinking about being a superhero. Then I remembered why I decided to be a superhero, it was to use my powers for good and help people. I stayed up so late that I fell asleep when the sun came up, I also miss school that day.

Mardi Djamanhuri had awakened of his long unconscious. He encountered this world was not same as before. There were many terrifying creatures that came from a mysterious cave located at south of a modern city, Kayara. 

The creatures called as Devilroar. The creatures were looked like a human which has wolf's head. The creatures have two pair of wings that can bring them whereever they want. 

So, what will Mardi do to resist the creatures? He had no choice, except gathering every superheroes around this world. 

The Devilroar's presence perhaps is a sign of arriving of something more dangerous, Jager Hakan, an alien from Kasalga Empire, an empire located at Planet Darb.

Not everyone is born a hero. In the case of superheroes, it's a singular moment that typically sets the individual on the path to becoming a force for good. That's what is known as the origin story. Whether it's an alien with unbelievable powers or a regular Earthling who's just trying to do the best with their natural talents, each comic book protagonist has an experience that leads them on their heroic path. And boy, have there been a lot of these told for both classic and modern heroes. 

The comic book medium has been going strong for more 75 years, and over those decades hundreds, if not thousands, of superheroes have been introduced. Typically these origin stories have been seen across a variety of media by both passionate comic book fans and people who are just looking for a good tale. And just because a hero is successful doesn't mean that they got off to the best start with their origin stories, but when these tales are told right, they're the stuff of legend. Here are some of the most famous superheroes of all time ranked by how great and epic their origin stories are.

1. The X-Men

Of course, each individual X-Men has their own unique stories, but together the team's origin tale is a classic. As mutants, they were all born with their abilities rather than imbued with them by science, magic or aliens. Consequently, many of these people face mistrust and bigotry from the general population who view them as freaks of nature. However, despite their persecution, they still use their powers to protect the innocent. Brought together by Charles Xavier, the X-Men not only combat threats ranging from fanatical humans to fellow mutants, but their overall mission is to fight for the rights of their fellow mutants and usher in a world of acceptance and peace. So even though their overall story is based in a superhero world, it's memorable because their goals are similar to what many of us want to achieve in real life.

2. The Flash (Barry Allen)

In the 1950s, DC Comics decided to relaunch several of their most successful superheroes from the 1940s as new individuals. The Flash was the first to receive this treatment, being reintroduced in 1956 as forensic scientist Barry Allen. While working late in his lab one night, he was struck by lightning, which subsequently knocked him into shelf full of chemicals. After waking up, he discovered he could run at superhuman speeds, and donning the red and yellow costume that's become much more recognizable than his predecessor's, Barry became the new Flash and built a quite a supporting cast. Visually it's one of the best origins on this list, but it also has a distinct sci-fi feel to it that few DC hero origins had before it. Many non-comic book fans saw this origin told for the first time back in October on the CW series The Flash.

3. Green Lantern (Hal Jordan)

Green Lantern was the second DC hero to be revitalized during the Silver Age of comic books. This time around, test pilot Hal Jordan inherited a special ring after it was bequeathed to him by a dying alien named Abin Sur who had crash-landed on Earth. Unlike the magical ring that the Golden Age Green Lantern wore, Hal Jordan's ring was a product of science that allowed him to use his willpower to fly and make solid constructs with his mind. Inheriting Abin Sur's legacy, Hal became the new Green Lantern of Sector 2814, and the first human to ever join the Green Lantern Corps. Like The Flash, it's memorable for its sci-fi feel, but also to due to how this Green Lantern inherited his heroic legacy from a mysterious visitor (which would later be repeated with Kyle Rayner) whereas his predecessor Alan Scott just sort of stumbled upon his power.

Seen On Screen: In the flawed, but right now only, Green Lantern origin movie with Ryan Reynolds, which hit theaters in 2011.

4. Iron Man

Although the location for Iron Man's origin has changed several times throughout the decades, the story itself has not. While demonstrating some of his creations abroad, Tony Stark was injured and taken captive by enemy soldiers. While in captivity, he was forced to build weapons for these terrorists, but with the help of scientist Ho Yinsen, he built a mechanical suit that allowed him to defeat his captors and escape to freedom. With a renewed perspective on life, Tony uses his new armor to protect the innocent as Iron Man. Not only is it one of best redemption origin stories and full of action as Tony escaped his imprisonment, it also showed that not everyone who becomes a superhero starts out as a moral individual. Sometimes takes a nudge (or in Tony's case nearly dying from shrapnel in your heart) to discover your true potential.

Seen On Screen: Stark's destiny was brought to life by Jon Favreau in 2008's Iron Man, with Robert Downey Jr. in the lead.

5 Captain America

Captain America's origin story wouldn't work well as an anti-drug PSA, but it's an excellent story of trumping over the odds. Steve Rogerswanted to serve in World War II, but his scrawny body and ill health prevented him from enlisting. Fortunately for him, he was chosen as the test subject for Project Rebirth, and after being injected with the Super Soldier Serum, his body became the epitome of physical perfection. Soon after the scientist who created the serum was assassinated by a Nazi spy, leaving the serum's formula lost and making Steve the only one of his kind. He subsequently became Captain America to not only to help defeat the Axis forces, but to become one of the most well-known superheroes in the present-day after being frozen for decades. As mentioned earlier, it's memorable for featuring the little guy rising up to beat the odds, but it also helps that it was an important reflection of the era he was created in and even inspired good to defeat evil in real life.

            "What's wrong, kid?"
            Drew, who was waiting for his results, jumped lightly and looked at the superhero before him. "N-nothing, sir. Uh, Crimson Arrow. I was just thinking about…being a superhero."
            "What of it?" Crimson Arrow asked. His gaze was piercing, and for a moment, Drew wanted to flinch. "Are you interested in becoming one such superhero?"
            "You guys save a lot of people, right?" Drew asked. "Like lots of them. Every day, when the spectres attack…but what drives you on? Is it not scary? You can die, right? What makes you risk your life for other people?"
            Crimson Arrow turned away from Drew, and the boy's heart sank. His question had clearly displeased him or something, and—
            "You know, most superheroes don't actually ask this question until a midpoint of their career," said Crimson Arrow, the sun shining behind him. Drew stared at that surreal sight, transfixed, and then promptly caught himself staring wantonly at the superhero.
            "I'm sorry. It's just…"
            "Why are you sorry?" Crimson Arrow shook his head. "Most of society has a very idealised view of us heroes. Selfless beings who will fight to the death to protect innocents. It is a very nice image, but there are those who doubt it."
            "Like me," said Drew. 
            "Yes. And I find that a good thing. You see, we heroes aren't born from clone vats." Crimson Arrow smiled, as did Drew — the superhero was referring to an incident last year, when a superhero tried to clone himself fully. The outcome was five other clones, but none of them had any superpowers, save for the original. He became a laughing stock shortly afterwards, since international law required the original to take care of any clones, or be punished heavily.
            That was, however, somewhat beside the point.
            "What do you mean by that?" Drew asked, after pushing that unwanted popup of information away from the forefront of his mind.
            "What I mean is that there exist sidekicks and new heroes, who do not know how to lose and when to give up," said Crimson Arrow. "Indoctrinated by the overly-rosy ideas from mass media, they truly see the act of dying for the sake of duty as a worthy one. That really shouldn't be the case, kid."
            The superhero walked away from the window, stepping into the shade. "You ask me what drives me to fight, despite the risk to my life. Here's my answer. I fight to save as many as I can, but minimise any dangers to my life in the process. I do not feel obligated to kill myself for society at large."
            "Oh."
            "Is that a disappointing answer to you, kid?" Crimson Arrow reached out and fluffed his hair. Drew struggled to get away from those paws, but no matter how he tried to twitch and sway, his scalp was ruthlessly massaged by the superhero. 
            After a while, he gave up and let the masked man do as he wished. 
            "Well, kid? Have I shattered your illusions?" Crimson Arrow asked.
            Drew shook his head and smiled faintly. "I never had illusions about superheroes to begin with. I was…just curious. Were superheroes really selfless? Were all these stories real?"
            "I'm interested to know what answer you arrived at, kid. But that would be boring." The superhero chuckled, and for a moment, Drew had a feeling that his intentions had been seen through entirely. "Well. Kid. Have you made your choice? Are you going to become a superhero? Or do you still need to ask more questions?"
            "You knew?" Drew asked, surprised.
            "Come on. I've been doing this superhero gig for twenty-two years. Not hard to see what you newbies and wannabe sidekicks have in mind. You're not the first person, nor will you be the last, to have such doubts." Crimson Arrow chuckled. "You have a good head on your shoulders. And you have the welfare of the common people at heart. These traits are the ones I seek out from any students of mine."
            "Sir, you—"
            "You don't want to? Well, that gentleman who saved you earlier is a rather good choice too, kid. I don't know who he is, but that dude is…very dangerous. And strong." 
            "Do you know who he is?" Drew asked. He had been unable to get the image of that youthful-looking man turning that spectre into ash. No heat, no light, no postures. Just…ashes.
            "Beats me. He got there just in time to save you from either a trip to the hospital or the funeral home. If you see him again, you better thank him nice and good, got it?" Crimson Arrow paused. "Right, how did he save you?"
            "You didn't see, sir?" 
            "Like I said, I was a tad too late. I saw your awakening from the opposite end of the city, and then thought that a new hero had been born out of duress, so I charged over to see if I could save you," Crimson Arrow replied. 
            "Oh." Drew scrunched his eyebrows together. "Erm, well…he pushed out with his right hand, and that spectre disintegrated."
            "What? Laia's blood…kid, are you sure? That guy turned the spectre into ash with a single move?" Crimson Arrow took a deep breath. "Think about it. Look through your memory again. What did you feel when that happened? What emotions?"
            "Emotions?"
            "Yes, kid. What did you feel when that spectre turned into ash?"
            Drew tried to gather his thoughts. "Err…I didn't quite feel anything, though. Why? What's wrong?"
            "No fear or dread?" Crimson Arrow prompted. "Or awe, maybe?" 
            Shaking his head numbly, Drew looked up at the superhero. Even with a mask, he could tell that Crimson Arrow was scared, frightened, and it took him a while to gather up some courage. 
            "Sir? What's…wrong?"
            "Well, since you're going to be my student…it should be alright, no?" Crimson Arrow paced around the area, back and forth. The sight of him muttering to himself over and over made Drew think about someone trying to convince themselves to break a rule or two. 
            "Sir?"
            Crimson Arrow cleared his throat. "Maybe I was imagining it or something. We should get moving, though. After all, we still need to do more checks on you first, make sure that you're actually able to fight and everything. Come to think of it, isn't the assessment taking a bit too long?"
            He glanced at Drew. "Stay here for a moment, kid. I'll go grab your results. Seriously, what's with this hold-up?"
            As Crimson Arrow stomped away, Drew started to look around the place. He was currently in Laia's most advanced hospital — Crimson Arrow had forcefully brought him here for an extended check-up. Unfortunately, the Hospital of Healing Light was located across the Lima Ocean. 
            At that thought, Drew felt like throwing up. Crimson Arrow had literally grabbed him for a piggy-back cross-continental flight, without even letting him ask his parents for permission. It was partially his fault, since Drew didn't even open his mouth to say anything beyond 'yes' and 'no' until they ran him through a set of tests. 
            They were probably worried sick or even grieving by now.
            "Hmph." A snort came from the far end of the hallway, and Drew turned to see Crimson Arrow stomp back. "Kid, you're really, really popular. Did you know the staff here were all busy contacting the S-class superheroes because of you? My student would have been stolen from underneath my nose if I hadn't paid attention!"
            "Sir?"
            "Yes, kid?"
            "I need to contact my parents…"
            "Use your Flashpad, then." Crimson Arrow sent a glowering gaze into the depths of the hallway. "Surely you don't need me to tell you that, right?"
            "My Flashpad can't do cross-continental calls…"
            Crimson Arrow froze, and then plastered a grin on his face. "Of course, right…ahem. Well, I'll lend you mine. At the same time, I might as well let your parents know about you being a superhero."
            Drew felt his heart lurch. "Wait, sir. This is not a good place to talk to them about that! You won't like the experience either!"
            "Oh, come on. I've scouted heroes from even the most unwilling of parents. I can handle this, easy." Crimson Arrow removed a small metal band from his left hand. "Here, kid. Punch your family's Flashpad ID inside. You do know how to do that, right?"
            "Sir, you should really believe me when I say you won't enjoy the experience!"
            "Come now, kid. Don't be worried about me, okay?" Crimson Arrow patted his back. "Look! Even the passing nurses aren't staring at me."
            "But—"
            "I'll turn down the volume if you're really so worried." The superhero shook his head. "Seriously, this is the first time I've accepted a student who's so worried about their prospective teacher. Sheesh."
            "Just don't regret it, okay?" Drew took the metal bracelet, and a translucent blue screen unfolded outwards. Punching in a long string of numbers, the familiar beep-beep sound started up, which lasted for a few seconds before the screen expanded to show his mum's face.
            "Drew? Whose number is this?"
            He gulped. "Mum, I can explain…"

Since the advent of existence itself, the multiverse has been stricken by an inexorable end, a destiny of annihilation. It knows not mercy, nor does it hold compassion for the masses. As a force of nature, of causality, such is expected. 

    However, in the shadowy gaps that divide universes, whispers about a divine game abound. It is said that the Harbinger of the End and its newly-bonded host are playing a game, one in which it raises heroes. Heroes that defend their plane. Heroes that overcome their world’s native threats. Heroes that could, perhaps, hope to stand against a destined ruin, and eke out a victory to save their universe.
    
    A game between Salvation and Extinction. Between a karmic force and its human host. When the game truly concludes, what might just happen?
    
    And what might be its true purpose?


Book 1: The Supers of Laia

      In the world of Laia, Supers — beings capable of manifesting miracles — have been long divided into two camps. Superheroes and supervillains. There, the human host of the Harbinger has his task cut out for him. Raise two fledging superheroes into saviours that could overcome entropy, and this time, he isn't pulling any punches.

      Setting the stage for their growth, Idro attempts to overcome his never-ending defeats...but will everything go as planned?

I have spent a lot of time recently trying to nail down the MHA timeline as it relates to reality. Present Mic quotes Napoleon, which means that until that point at least, history is as ours.
However, it cannot be that the present is as it is now, as assuming that each generation of One for All used it for at least ten years (and about 25 for All Might) one can put the Quirk Age as lasting at least 100 years. That would likely have eclipsed the invention of nuclear weapons, which are there as a trope within the combat trial.
Therefore, I put MHA in the somewhat distant future. Somewhat supported by Mario references that mention it as a really old thing, but I digress.
However, that presents an interesting question: How would that have affected entertainment? Would superhero comics and movies have survived that much time with their subjects being reality? Could they even?
Consider another thing: if DC and Superman survived, and then there was a timeline of any sort where Superman went evil again, then how does that reflect on the hero industry as a whole, or even All Might specifically? What was a somewhat political commentary veiled by the ridiculously impossible becomes a very real warning on what could happen should those hailed as heroes turn evil.
That doesn't sound like it would be allowed for long. And the more heroes and Quirks show up, the more classic comic heroes might start looking like parodies of reality.
While that doesn't necessarily mean that Marvel and DC wouldn't survive, 100 years is a long time to survive without major changes. Anime would also be majorly affected.
Partly in order to just say that classics would stay classics, I will say that they just died out, and are referred to as the "old stories." After all, even if the sources all survive, the stories that would come out in the Quirk Age would undoubtedly be different. Exactly what would be different is hard to say, but stories cannot be unaffected by the cultures and political/social/scientific climates in which they are developed.
For that last one, think about the original comic origin of Spiderman vs. more recent stuff. They originally said radioactive spider because it was known as a mutation cause, but now say genetically modified because it makes more sense with general scientific knowledge. 
Anyways, that is what I mean by the "old stories." Bygone relics of a dead era. 

As an addendum, I think that people like Batman, Iron Man, and Captain America, as "Quirkless," definitely wouldn't survive in their current forms. This world has shown its hostility to the Quirkless, and those that straight up destroy powerful beings with nothing but experience and intelligence wouldn't fit the general narrative the world is trying to sell. Cap would become more like All Might, Iron Man a technomancer, and maybe Batman too. 

Well, who expected this crossover?
Kaisei Oguchi is a teenager with a troubled past and a powerful Quirk- he can summon the ever adapting Swarm of the Starcraft universe to do his will. Trying to make the best use of it, and with a plan that he has shared with nobody, not even his most trusted sister, he enters UA with the intent to become the greatest hero, like no one ever was. Oh. And a side of revenge. Revenge is nice, too.
Expect him to be a little dark. In control of one of the greatest weapons of a cosmos, who wouldn't be? Who is safe from his wrath? Not even All Might will escape unscathed.

If I upload slowly, I'm sorry. I'm just a beginning writer with too many ideas and not enough experience writing. This and Marvelwatch are attempts to fix that problem . 
There is the possibility of me purposely withholding uploads to torture people under the Alcatraz Imperative. (I'm a big Sanderson fan.) But don't expect that too much.

And, I guess, the required legal disclaimer of "I don't own anything from the works I cite. I am not trying to claim them as my own creation, and am very much prepared to use any means necessary to defend myself. Including, but not limited to, the Chewbacca Defense."
However, I bet it's also obvious what I am and am not doing, so it would take some level of insanity to try to sue me over fanfiction.

Strange how much I owe to my life-giving transistors! They not only power my Iron Man armor, but they keep my injured heart beating so that Tony Stark can remain alive! My very existence is hanging by an electric cord! Well, enough philosophy for now! If I know my women, and nobody knows them better than Tony Stark . . . —Tales of Suspense 2353, May 1964  Well, that may be enough philosophy for Tony Stark, but it's definitely not enough for the contributors to the book you're holding, not to mention its humble editor. For nearly forty years, comics buffs—and more recently, movie fans—have thrilled to the adventures of the armored avenger Iron Man and the romantic and business exploits of the man behind the mask, Tony Stark. But compared to other celebrated superheroes, Iron Man looks like a straightforward character.  Tony's not a deeply tortured soul like Batman or a perennial outcast like each of Uncanny X-Men, and he's not a front for a harsh portrayal of abuse of power like the characters of Watchmen. He's a guy in a shiny metal suit who fights bad guys—so what can philosophers possibly say about him? 

As it turns out, plenty! A certain webslinger we know is fond of saying that with great power comes great responsibility, and Iron Man certainly wields great power—but does he show great responsibility? Does he behave ethically, and does he reason philosophically? Is there a downside to the tremendous technological advances that form Iron Man's incredible armor? And is his true superpower the armor of Iron Man or the intelligence of Tony Stark? Speaking of whom, Tony Stark is infamous for his playboy persona or, to put it more bluntly, his alcoholic womanizing. So how do these character flaws reflect on Iron Man the hero? Despite the glitz, glamour, and gleaming armor, is tragedy actually the defining aspect of Tony Stark's life? As you read this book, I hope you come to agree—if you didn't already—that even the most "normal" of superheroes can inspire fascinating philosophical questions. Stan Lee may not have realized it at the time, but when he took a brilliant, handsome, and wealthy weapons manufacturer and turned his life upside down, he created a character with enough inner and outer turmoil to inspire stories like "Demon in a Bottle," "Armor Wars," and "The Mask in the Iron Man" (just to name a few). And Iron Man has more than enough depth to inspire philosophers like us—and that includes you, dear readers—to think about power, responsibility, intelligence, virtue, technology, and just what it must feel like to soar into the sky with jet-powered boots. (I'm still waiting for the last one—someday!)

PART ONE MY MADNESS ABOUT ARMORS

      For me, it was the jet boots. Not that I didn 't also covet that incredible array of weapons built into Tony Stark's armor—the repulsor rays, missile launchers, pulse beams, and flamethrowers—but it was those jet boots that really got me salivating. To my preadolescent mind, it was Tony's marvelous ability to lift himself off the ground and soar through the clouds that made him a bona fide superhero and not just some hotshot engineer outfitted with an admittedly awesome arsenal of weapons. After all, the prefix "super" comes from a Latin word meaning "above," so to watch a real superhero in action you should need to crane your neck and look up in the sky. But the jet boots were also emblematic of what to my mind was the most glorious thing about Tony's way of being a superhero. Unlike, say, Reed Richards of the Fantastic Four, Tony wasn't simply someone who happened to be a superhero in addition to being a hotshot engineer. He was a superhero because of thosejet boots and the enviable power they gave him, which is to say that it was his extraordinary  engineering prowess that allowed him to make himself super, without having to wait around for gamma rays or a radioactive spider bite. Consequently—and best of all, to my way of thinking—you didn't even need to be Tony to wield his remarkable superpowers (at least until recently, when Extremis transformed him into a full-fledged technological artifact in his own right). All you needed was access to Stark technology. In principle, anyone could become the Iron Man. Of course, as the memorable "Armor Wars" story line drove home with a vengeance—and by "vengeance," I mean Tony Stark in a murderous rage—you would be ill-advised to use that technology without the permission of its creator.1 On the other hand, you might get to be one of the lucky few, like James "Rhodey" Rhodes, "Happy" Hogan, or, more recently, Pepper Potts, all of whom Tony has authorized at one time to don some version of his Iron Man armor and take flight. And the upshot to all this was that while I might have missed my chance to be born on Krypton, the prospect of flying with those gleaming red jet boots wasn 't entirely beyond the reach of my juvenile imagination and its superheroic aspirations. 

2 HEART OF LIGHT 
The enduring appeal of Iron Man owes a great deal to how Tony Stark personifies thespectacular promise of technology to turn our dreams into reality, a promise that has stoked a fire in the bellies of countless men and women in the modern era, not only in preadolescent boys with airborne imaginations. Occasionally, the promised marvels fail to materialize. While my youthful hopes shone brightly for the day when ads for genuine jet boots appeared in the comic book pages right next to the ones pitching Amazing Live Sea-Monkeys and X-Ray Specs, I've learned that this  isn't likely to happen any time soon. Decades of trials with jet-powered apparatuses have established that the human body isn't aerodynamically suited for this type of flight, except in the zero-gravity conditions of outer space. (The Sea-Monkeys were a big disappointment, too.) But in all probability, the appeal of Iron Man owes just as much to the way his gleaming golden armor bathes him in the glory of a mythical past, a romantic world of medieval knights-errant, often graced with superhuman abilities, invincible in battle against an endless succession of menaces that threaten the peace of their kingdoms. Consider Stan Lee's account of how he first came up with the inspiration for Iron Man:I thought, Well, what if a guy had a suit of armor, but it was a modern suit of armor—not like years ago in the days of King Arthur—and what if that suit of armor made him as strong as any Super Hero? I wasn't thinking robot at all; I was thinking armor, a man wearing twentieth century armor that would give him great power.Medieval knights often ruled over a kingdom of their own or were pledged to the service of some honorable and righteous lord who commissioned their noble exploits and invested them with the authority to act on his behalf. Tony Stark certainly fits that bill, as does Iron Man in his guise as Tony's most recognizable "employee." Like a feudal knight, Tony reigns over a powerful kingdom—an industrial kingdom, in his case—that owes its prosperity to his wisdom and foresight. Most important, as one of Tony's female companions once described his Iron Man alter ego, "he has a heart of gold and an appearance to match his golden deeds."3 He is the very essence of chivalry—noble, generous, and courageous; a perfect gentleman; skilled in the arts of war; and a formidable fighter for justice. In short, Tony epitomizes not only the dream of technology enhancing human powers far beyond the limits  of our natural endowments but also the possibility of the noble chivalric ideal surviving into the technological era, despite all of the other transformations the human condition is bound to undergo, transformations perhaps more profound than we can currently foresee. He's a sublime anachronism, an inspired amalgam of past and future at their best. And, to the extent we can persuade ourselves that this hybrid really is a portent of things to come, the future looks as bright as the fire spitting from the heels of Iron Man's jet boots. These days, however, when I think about knights, I often recall the words of a seventeenth-century philosopher named RenéDescartes (1596-1650). In his Discourse on Method, Descartes offered an assessment of the education he received at one of the top schools in Europe, judging almost the entire curriculum to have been a colossal waste of his time. His appraisal of the value of the literature he was required to read concludes with his remark that "fables make us imagine many things as possible that are not" and even the authors of "histories" are guilty on occasion of "altering or exaggerating the importance of matters in order to make them more worthy of being read" and "at any rate, will almost always omit the baser and less notable events." Consequently, "those who regulate their conduct by the examples they draw from these works are liable to fall into the excesses of the knights-errant of our tales of chivalry, and to conceive plans beyond their powers."4 Could Tony Stark, a character in a modern-day fable, mislead us into thinking that impossible things are really possible? (I'm not just talking about the jet boots, by the way).

The X-Men

Of course, each individual X-Men has their own unique stories, but together the team's origin tale is a classic. As mutants, they were all born with their abilities rather than imbued with them by science, magic or aliens. Consequently, many of these people face mistrust and bigotry from the general population who view them as freaks of nature. However, despite their persecution, they still use their powers to protect the innocent. Brought together by Charles Xavier, the X-Men not only combat threats ranging from fanatical humans to fellow mutants, but their overall mission is to fight for the rights of their fellow mutants and usher in a world of acceptance and peace. So even though their overall story is based in a superhero world, it's memorable because their goals are similar to what many of us want to achieve in real life.
