The village was huge and was lined with buildings on either side, but looking at the signs, it looked like they were stores. 

'Kay, should I get to work?'

Shopping was always fun.

And Ian began to walk faster.

"What is it Miss Ji-yeon?"

Na Ji-chan, who was writing a report with a good mood, looked over at Kim Ji-yeon.

After listening to her tensed tone, he was sure that something interesting had happened. 

Kim Ji-yeon gulped and looked into Na Ji-chan's eyes and opened her lips. 

"I just got a call from the monitoring team."

"The first three rankers who entered the Warrior's Village have gotten the quest of Dimensional Mirror battle."

Woah, what hour is this, hmm?, its 4 AM, did I really not gonna have a strange Dream again?, it's a good  relief then.
I woke up from my bed, make it up, and about to doing a morning prayer, Im going to first floor, and go to praying space, which where, we make a pray, there is already someone there, its Duran, he already about to make a pray too.
So I greet him while yawning "good mowning kak" then Duran, noticed me and replied "Morning, you had a good dream?" hmm, is not having that strange dream, considered as good dream?.
Well I just answer him with "hmm, Im not had a nightmare last night", Duran nodded hearing my answer and he talk again "that's good, lets just pray together now"
Duran face is a bit… sad I think not like usual, maybe its just me, then.. I take ablution first and follow up Duran to pray together.
Then we pray together, well, me and Duran usually pray together, but its getting rare because hes going to the College, and he stay at boarding house near his college, that's why when its holiday, I always play with my brother too.
Im getting back to my room after we pray,  and Im laying around again, well, I have so much freetime now, it's a self study until next time, but like hell Im gonna study.

"Swetty come here already, its already morning"
Ahh its my mom called me from the dining room, ohh its already 7 , its time to breakfast I see, I think everybody already on the dining room.
"Yess mom gonna be there in a minute" I said
I wake up from my bed and grab my necklace from my storage as always and wear it, Im going to bathroom to wash my face first.
I wash my face, then I checked the mirror, " hmm it really black huh, I thought its brown" that's what I said when I saw the mirror and inspect my eyes, then there is something in the sink.
"Huh?, whose hair is this" there is a hair stuck on the sink, I take the hair, so it will not block the water, but.
"ehh, white?, I thought its my hair" as I saw the strain of hair clearly, its really white color as silver, maybe its father.
"Ahh maybe its father hair, *sigh*, he really getting old huh" I said while throwing the hair to trashbin.
After I wash my face, I go directly to dining room, and yep, they already there too.
"Good morning everyone" I said while I grab the chair and sit.
Father replied while reading his morning newspaper as usual "Good morning son, how are you".
Then I reply again "Im pretty great today, dad, you must take care of your health now" in thought of that white hair I found on sink.
"huh, what do you mean Richan, Im still healthy you know, and Im not that old too" father replied while look at me like confused.
Hmm on second thought, yeah, my father only 44 years old now, and his hair still fresh black, and actually other people even gonna think that father still looks like in his 30s, he look a lot like Duran, well of course genetics are real deal.
When Im taking a rice from rice cooker, my mom talk to me, "Richan you know whats gonna happen on Sunday right?" I stopped in midway hearing what mom was saying.
Then I say "hah?, is there any special event on Sunday, mom?" because I don't have any Idea whats gonna happen on Sunday.
Mother take the food to dining table and sit, then she said " you silly, its your own birthday how do you even forget about that"
Oh yeah, its my birthday…, I will be 15 years old on Sunday, well its not like we're gonna had a party anyway, maybe we just gonna have a small dinner on family restaurant, we're a simple family anyway.
After Im done taking a rice and sit again , and I say "Ah yes, I just realized that" .
Father drop the newspaper and take a breakfast too, but before that he said " do you want anything for your birthday ?".
Im a bit surprised and happy, because on my birthday I never got a present except  having a fancy family dinner, but I can't reply now to father question, because I still don't have anything in my mind.
So I just say "im gonna think about it later dad"
Dad reply again "okay, just say it and we're gonna buy it later,  make sure that's something not too expensive"
After dad take the meal, we starting to have a breakfast, don't forget to pray before eat too! ,this morning we had a Crispy fried chicken, my favourite food especially because mother make a sambal that make the chicken more tasty, first, I take the chicken and put sambal on top of it, and crush the chicken, then tadaaa, "Chicken Geprek" is done.
While we're had a breakfast, I take a glance at Duran, I think his expression is getting better, maybe its just my imagination earlier.
After we're having a breakfast, Im helping mom to take the dirty plates, to dish washer, but when I take the plates I overheard Duran saying something to father.
"Father Im gonna go out later, I can't go to hospital, there is ...…", that's what I heard before I can't hear it again because the distance to far.
Oh maybe he gonna go out playing with his college friends, I heard one of his friend house is near our neighborhood, naturaly I want to go too, but Im gonna go to hospital later for checkup,  and there is no way mother gonna allow me because  Im on self study now.

Im already take a bath and dress up, and Im waiting on living room for my parent to get ready, while waiting Im checking on my phone In case there is some important message.
There is Ryan sending today assigments, welp, another work to be done, and then there is my bois just fooling around as always, then there is Yana… she messaging me talking about am I on hospital yet, I click on it and when Im about to reply her, my mother called me to get in the car.

Long story short, we arrived at hospital, signing up, and waiting for my turn, its already around 20 minutes Im waiting here, its getting bored because I don't have my phone right now, and of course Im getting sleepy too, so Im going to bathroom to wash my face.
The hospital bathroom looks pretty nice and neat, well that's a good grief, because I can't stand a dirty bathroom, especially the toilet, the bathroom model looks like a mall bathroom with a long mirror on the wall.
It seems nobody in the bathroom, and I just go straight to the sink, I look at my face first in the mirror, you know like, everybody doing that too right?
im saying to myself in the mirror "What a lookie", its just a bit self apreaciation okay, luckily no one here.
Then  I lean my head on the sink and wash my face, Im a bit refreshed, for now, *sigh*, I hope we're going home soon.

"Of course you are ~", said by someone, oh crap, I think I was wrong for being alone, now Im being ashamed, ahh he sounds like a young boy I think, but wait, why it sounds like he beside me?.
"Afterall… we have the same looking ~"
Huh?.... what did he mean by that ?, Im still facing at the sink, instead being ashamed, now…, Im a bit scared, still facing the sink, I realise something is on the sink.
Its… a strands of white hair, I have a bad feeling about this, this situation feels like in those horror movies, where the ghost are haunting because the person Is cursed, oh no, Im too frightened to raise my head.
I think.., there is no other choice.
I gripped my both hand, taking a deep breath, gather all my brave and gut and quicly turn my heads up and looking at my rightside.
Ehh?..., there is no one here, I thought I really hear his voice near me, oh my god, is it really ghost?.
"Anuuu.. Im here you know ~ " I hear it again, but…, its from in front of me, then.. I glanced at the mirror.
There is only a mirror, and my reflection on it, but in the same time, its not mine reflection.
The reflection of me in the mirror is… have a Silver ash hair colour, and golden eye pupil, and he, I mean me in the mirror is smiling, not the scary one, the sweet one.
"Wh.. what is this" I said while stuttering and back off from the mirror, but, the reflection is not even changed now.
"Have a nice Dream now, Richan.. ~ " he said with his sweet tone while leaning his head to his left shoulder, acting like….. cute.
Surprised about what was he said, I response while I try to grasp my posture with holding on one of the stall "hah, what do you mean by dream, how do you know my na…"
Before I cant even finish my sentence, all of sudden, I became very sleepy again.
This, this feeling is similar with when Im thrown up by Dark on the black space on my last dream, I think.. Im gonna passed out again.
Is this, am I gonna experiencing that dream again?, no way.. I thought It was finished
" don't worry Richan, everyting gonna be allright ~ " he said when my eyelid fully closed as Im passed out.

Anastasia walked into her bathroom rubbing the sleep out of her eyes. She stood in front of the mirror and yawned, she looked at herself in the mirror with a bored expression. Anastasia was one of possibly the most beautiful girl in her whole school, she could do a lot with her beauty, but she didn't like being in the spotlight, rather she hated being in the spotlight. She brushed her teeth then leaned down to wash her face, when she looked up at herself in the mirror after washing her face she jumped so hard she almost fell to the floor. She quickly looked at the mirror and what she saw before was gone, she breathed hard, "What the hell was that?" she whispered.
Anastasia walked behind her family into the church, it was Sunday, like always her family went to church every Sunday. She greeted people who greeted her parents then looked at her and her siblings with a fake smile, Anastasia hated church, well hate is a strong word, she didn't like church with a passion, it always made her feel sick, and it was long.
Sitting next to her older sister, Jessica, she stared at the people who were walking around a little bit getting ready in the front of the church. "Good Morning church." the pastor spoke in the mic, "First I want to say I am thankful you are all here." he exclaimed. Anastasia almost gagged when he heard the pastor say that, another thing she didn't like about church was the cringeness.
Service had been going for about two hours, Anastasia sat there agitated for some reason, she didn't like how long church was, but she never fidgeted or became agitated about it. "I would like you all to stand for our final song." the pastor exclaimed and everyone stood up, she also didn't like how much singing they did. The song started and they started to sing, as they did a ringing rung through her head causing her to rub her ear as if it were in pain or something.
Anastasia followed her family out of the church, while walking the ringing started again, but this time louder, an so loud she thought her ear were definitely going to start bleeding. "Honey you alright?" her mom asked looking at her with concern, it was then she realized she was covering her ears, "Nothing" she exclaimed and got in the car. The ride home was quiet as usual, her big sister and older twin brothers were on the phone. If she was like any other person she probably would complain about how quiet it was, or try to start a conversation, but luckily she wasn't like everyone else.
She walked into her room and flopped on her bed relaxing every little second. She closed her eyes as she sighed, "I hate church." she exclaimed, 'Me too.' Anastsia jumped up looking around frantically. "Who's there?" she asked, nothing but silence, she got off her bed slowly still looking around cautiously. "Who said that?" she asked, nothing until, 'Me', Anastasia jumped at the voice, "Who was that?" she asked, 'Me' the voice answered again.

A girl who instead of facing her demons she befriends them.

"It's a pity" said the Chief doctor and got up to leave, but the administrative manager of the hospital who is also in the room said something the ignited panic in the room
He said, "We can't leave it like this. This surgery can be viewed as a medical malpractice you know"
"No, it isn't a medical malpractice. There is enough evidence to prove that the patient admitted with the incision" said the chief doctor furiously.
"The family won't believe us. I mean who will believe that a person had an internal injury like that and that particular one can only possible by a doctor" the administrative manager said calmly "We should better prepare ourselves"
The person who caused all this is having a peaceful nap in an old apartment.

As usual Wang Yong woke up first, prepared breakfast. As it is Sunday, he doesn't have to go to school. A few hours later Wang Wei woke up.
"Why are you still here? Are you skipping school?" said Wang Wei, looking at his brother, who is reading his books leisurely.
"It's Sunday" said Wang Yong flinging his hands up

Not only that, as Boss Hugo is also showing particular interest on them, Yong got scared and stopped meeting his friends other than the school hours.
Still, Wang Yong goes around meeting people if he gets bored. Even though Boss Hugo doesn't believe what happened to Alphonse has to do nothing with him, Hugo will still be suspicious of Wang Wei. That's why Wang Wei particularly warned Wang Yong because of what happened yesterday.

The people in the neighborhood call it the haunted house because of its ghostly appearances and don't go near this house. But unknown to them, Wang Wei is using this house as his hang out since the time his family moved here. Even Wang Yong don't know about this place.
He went inside the attic of the abandoned house and closed the door behind him. He took out a packet filled with beans and peas. Wang Wei bought it on the way to the park. He closed his eyes and whispered "Mirror World".
Instantly, the same white light covered him, and he appeared in the mirror world.
"Welcome back, Mr. Wei" said Genesis smiling at Wang Wei
"Good to see you again Genesis" he said and looked around. Other than the travel to Hangzhou book, the remaining items are vanished because they are expired.
Wang Wei opened the system panel, checked his stats one more time and took out a pea from the packet and said
"System. Appraise"
"Appraising the item" said the system in the same monotonic mechanical voice
"Appraising Completed"
A window opened with the details of the pea.

"Yes" said Wang Wei and a list of items opened before him

"Genesis, what is this energion?" asked Wang Wei. Because when he submitted apple, the system appraised it as Low energion and also he saw the same with the pea.
"Energions are the very rare energy particles present in the universe. According to the literature gathered from some books, energions are closely related to ether, chaos, primordial energy or the spirit" said Genesis.
"Exactly what books are you reading?" asked Wang Wei guessing what might be the answer
"Ancient Godly Monarch, True martial World etc..," said Genesis
"How do you gain access to Internet and Web novel?" Wang Wei asked, surprised.
"Unlimited Borrowing System connects with the local network to collect the information and update its database" said Genesis with a poker face
"That means I can have internet connection in the mirror world?"
"Yes Mr. Wei"
"This is the best system ever" said Wang Wei elated hearing Genesis
"Pervert" Genesis mumbled

Wang Wei is a young man whose family turned from rich to poor. He only has his father and his brother as his family. After many complications, he adjusted to his present life. Suddenly, one day he heard his father is dead in an accident.While he is still confused and devastated, a local kingpin pestered and tortured him about an unverified loan that his father took from him, sending Wang Wei and his brother into despair. But because of some unexpected incidents, he received a system.

This is his story, where Wang Wei uses his system to exact revenge on people who caused him despair, and in this process he gets intentionally or unintentionally involved in matters that change the very structure of this world.

Sunday
Driving down the highway I nodded my head and tapped my fingers against the steering wheel to some classical songs that played on the radio. Focusing on the road the sun glared off my wedding ring.
My phone buzzed on the passenger seat and I looked over to see Carson's name on the screen, I reached over answering it and putting it on loudspeaker. "Hello." I asked placing my phone on my lap and focusing back on the road. "Hey did you do a grocery run? Fridge is practically empty." His voice hit my ears, I cringed. "Yeah I should be back in like twenty minutes max."
"Okay bye." I rolled my eyes as I heard the line go dead and I chucked my phone back onto the passenger seat. "Oh my god move!" I yelled at the slow driver in front of me. I rolled my eyes again and just continued to cuss at the driver.
Making my way to the house eventually I pulled into the drive way parking the car. Opening the door I got out and walked to the trunk to pick up the bags. "Need a hand?" Carson said making me slightly jump. I nodded and then made my way into the house setting the bags on the island counter. "Thanks." I said quietly as Carson walked in and did the same.
"No problem." He smiled before he started to unpack the bags. "I was thinking we could have Bolognese for dinner." He piped up once more. "Sure." I mumbled agreeing.
As we finished packing away the groceries my phone rang and I groaned when I seen my moms picture on the screen. "Hi mom!" I chirped as I answered, Carson's eyes widened once I said mom. "Hi sweetie! Your dad and I just want to know if it's okay if we came over for dinner? It's okay if your busy!" She chirped making me internally groan.
"Uhh no it's fine, I'll have Carson invite Lilian and Peter for a catch up! We are going to have Bolognese if that's ok?" I bit my lip. "Sure hun see you soon!"
When the line went dead I groaned. "They want to come over for dinner so you might as-well go invite yours. I'm going to start on dinner." I shook my head before rushing around grabbing pots and pans while Carson went to his office.
After an hour of cooking the dinner and making amazing signature desserts I finally had time to go get dressed and make myself at least look presentable. I curled my short blonde hair and did my make-up before slipping into my heels.
The doorbell rang and I heard Carson sighing before opening it. "Hi Mora you look beautiful as always and Noel your looking good." Carson put on his fake happy act that we learned to put on in-front of both our parents.
"Carson dear, how are you?" I heard my mom say. "I'm doing great." After I checked my self over I made my way down the stairs to greet my parents. "Mom! Dad!" I smiled as I entered the kitchen. "My baby!" Mom smiled hugging me and kissing my cheeks. "How are you sweetheart?" She examined my face and I smiled. "I'm doing good mom, there isn't nothing to worry about."
"Is he treating you good?" She smirked and I faked laughed. "Of course. I don't know what I would do without him." I smiled as I looked over at Carson in his blue tight shirt and his combed black hair. He looked back at me and smiled, hoping they still believed we were "happy".
As I was about to turn and check on the food the door bell rang and I mentioned I was going to get it, I fixed my hair in the mirror and fixed my dress before opening the door to Lilian and Peter. "Sunday! It's so good to see you!" Lilian smiled. "How are you dear?" She said stepping in the door and hugging me. "I'm amazing! My mom and dad are in the kitchen." I smiled as she smiled and walked in, I greeted Peter and I closed the door.
"So the house is coming together, is that a new mirror in the hallway I seen?" Lilian spoke as I poured three glasses of wine. "Yeah we just got it yesterday we want it to feel more like home." I smiled as I handed her and my mom their glasses of red wine.
I fake smiled at Lilian as I drank from my glass and dragged my eyes to look at Carson who drank from his bottle of beer while also looking at me. I wanted to roll my eyes but I held back and then remembered the food. "Do you guys want to take a seat at the table and Carson will you please help me with dinner?" I raised a brow with a smile at Carson who just nodded and everybody made their way towards the table. I turned on my heels and walked towards the oven to get the bolognese.
"I'm hating this fake happy thing." Carson groaned as he appeared beside me. "Let's just get this done and over with." I sighed as I plated up all the bolognese and Carson brought the plates over to the table.
"This looks amazing Sunday." Lilian smiled as I sat across from her with Carson on my right. "Thank you, It's one of my favorite dishes to make." I smiled digging my fork and spoon into the food taking up a small amount.
"So how is married life you two, any arguments yet?" My mom piped up smirking and my dad nudging her widening his eyes. "Oh Noel I'm just asking a question." She rolled her eyes arguing. "Mora they are only a few weeks living together, give them a little time before bombarding them with questions like that." My dad argued back.
I awkwardly coughed and my parents stared at me. "I am so sorry Sunday, you know I don't know how to keep my mouth shut." My mother apologized lowering her eyes to her plate. "No it's fine mother and no we haven't argued, not yet anyways." I lied biting my lip and looking at Carson who just stared at me with worried eyes.
"That's good." My mother laughed lightly, giving me and Carson a small smile. The room went quiet again as everyone went back to eating. I picked up my glass of wine and drank from it, my eyes glanced over at Lilian who was staring at me and I sent her a smile.
Dinner ended and I cleared up the plates as Lilian helped me load up the dishwasher in the kitchen on our own. "Sunday, I know it's none of my business but are you sure your okay? I know this whole thing isn't something you wanted." Lilian sounded concerned. I smiled at her shaking my head.
"I'm fine Lilian, I promise."
She nodded but still raised a brow. "You're absolutely positive you are fine because I don't want you to lie to me either Sunday." She held a hand on my arm and I sighed. "I'm 99.9% sure I am fine, there is no need to worry about me Lilian because Carson takes good care of me."
"Okay, but I mean it come and speak to me if something's wrong, okay?"
"Okay."
After loading the dishwasher Carson awkwardly wrapped his arms around me as we said our goodbyes to our parents, after shutting the door we suddenly let go and went straight upstairs to bed for work the next morning.

She said I'm the only female friend he introduced to her as her son is a shy type and a quiet one. I glanced at Liam and he was staring at his mum. 

It was fun dining with them. I felt much closer to Liam and it made me really happy. He sent me home and he told me that we will continue the sketch on Sunday. 

Sunday morning I woke up early, I turned the radio on, Maroon 5 was on and it was Adam Lavigne singing Sunday Morning, it just started too so I sing along while I prepared myself.

As I sang the last part I screamed as I sang YEAH YEAH YEAH…. YEEEAAAAAHHHHH!!!!! 

My mum knocked on my door and told me that Liam is downstairs waiting for me. I looked at the clock and it's only 10 AM and I thought I woke up early. Yup, on Sundays I can actually wake up late, so 10 is early for me.

"Okay mum, be there in a second!"

I rushed getting ready and head down. He was wearing shorts and a white shirt. 'God, he looked so handsome.' 

"I'm ready!" I smiled at him.

"Summer, you haven't had your breakfast yet." my mum reminded me.

Liam answered, "We're actually having breakfast at my house, my mum cooked pancakes and she invited her. Is that okay Mrs Hayes?"

My eyes widen as I heard what he said, I looked at him and mouthed, " For real?" he just smiled at me. 

My mum replied with "Okay, be home early, we have to see your aunt later." 

"Yes mum will do!"

We went to his house and indeed, his mum prepared breakfast. 

After we ate, he told his mum that he will continue with his sketch in his room and if she will need him just go in. 

We finished around 2 PM. It took a long time because we had breaks and lunch. He showed me his sketch and I looked incredibly good in it. He is really good. So far I know he can cook and he can draw pretty good. Seeing all the trophies, plaques and certificates in their house, I can tell, he is truly intelligent. What else can he do? Or is there something he can't do?

"What is it? Anything wrong with the sketch?" he asked.

"No! No! It's really good. It's actually better than me." I laughed.

He stood behind me and bent down a little, his face is right next to mine. "Is it?" 

My heart fluttered my brain stopped working my face felt so warm. I felt his breath as he spoke. Luckily, he only said two words. So I thought. 

"I think you're prettier in real life," he muttered.

I never knew love, until I saw him.
My dreams, he's always in it.
He came to me while I was crying.
I was alone and he comforted me.

If you are in love and afraid of it, it's a loss.

Why are you afraid of it and try to escape from love?

A hint of the song played somewhere deep in her mind, and with it came the memories that were both a blessing and a curse. They only came when she slept and always with a whisper of the song that Jody had played on the school's piano. 
No one else was around, and she certainly should not have been roaming the school halls after hours. But the quiet peacefulness of school was comforting when there was no one else around. She preferred the quiet, which caused people to think she was shy when she was actually a loner.
In some ways it was good that she had never needed people around.
Carmella followed the faint tinkling of the piano keys, liking the melody.
Later, Jody would explain that it was a song called "Arpeggi" by a group called Radio Head. But that would be a future—one that she would have liked to keep frozen and permanent. 
Carmella stared through the glass of the closed door and watched the teen's fingers as they moved across the keys. She recognized him but hadn't known that he'd had a talent for more than reading books and making good grades. In a word, he was a nerd—but it was still one step up from being a loner. 
The dream-Carmella watched the pale skinny boy with the strikingly black hair through the glass of the door, and she longed to throw open that door and fling herself at him. 
But the dream-her didn't know him yet, and the real-her had lost him a long time ago.

II

Carmella blinked her eyes but didn't otherwise move. For a moment the memory of Jody was so fresh it sent a sharp pain right to the center of her chest. She stared at the ceiling until she could breathe. It always took her a moment to push the memories back into a place where they did not drive her mad. And perhaps there would come a day when they would no longer retreat neatly back to that special place where she kept her memories, and then she truly would be mad.
Carmella leaped to her feet as she remembered what day it was. It was Sunday, and there was a lot to do. She used the slop bucket, and as she carried it outside, she paused on the back porch and scanned the yard. 
Yard? 
Yes, she considered the acres upon acres of farmland to be her yard. Her "yard" didn't stop at the end of the farm. Carmella's land ran as far as the eye could see to the Ohio River and beyond. 
She began the arduous task of pumping and hauling water back to the house and heating it on her wood cook stove for her bath. 
Sunday she could luxuriate in the bath. Heating the water and filling the big tub was too much of a task to do every day, so for the rest of the week she used a washbasin to clean herself. But on Sundays she allowed herself this small luxury. She sang old songs but only the parts she could remember. And as the water heated she tended to the bread. Her kitchen always had a pleasant, fresh-baked smell because of the starter dough that sat on the counter. Every morning she fired up her cook stove, baked her bread, milked the cow, and collected eggs. Her breakfast was usually scrambled eggs, bread with fresh butter, and milk still warm from its source. 
It took nearly two hours to fill the tub. She had timed it long ago. Carmella lit several candles and situated them in her large bathroom, and then she tested the water and found it was bearable. She kept one bucket of hot water in the corner to heat the bath as it cooled. Carmella stepped into the tub with a sigh of pleasure. The most expensive bath beads that she could find in Macy's in downtown Cincinnati colored the water sea foam green and exuded a fresh ocean aroma. She picked up a book, a paperback imprinted with the image of two white people on the cover, which promised an interesting romantic journey. She had several hundred paperbacks that neatly filled one room. Sometimes she picked them because the cover made her remember something she had long forgotten, like cell phones. How could she have forgotten cell phones? 
But after so long a cell phone was the last thing worth remembering …
Carmella lost track of time in the bath. She had the book half-read and the water was tepid by the time she stepped out. She padded into the bedroom naked and dried off while standing in front of her mirror. She had no interest in the way she looked, but if she bothered to glance into the mirror, she would see a thirty-eight-year-old woman with medium brown skin and long dreadlocks that ran down her back to her buttocks. She stood 5-9, and though more thickly built than thin, she was almost pure muscle. Her face was unpleasant, not because she was unattractive, but because her eyes fluctuated between a look of wild desperation and lost confusion. Her eyes rose momentarily and took in the sight of the wild thatch of black hair that nestled under her arms and between her thighs.
"When I was back at home, I used to trim that," she said dispassionately before dressing in a pretty blue dress that still had the price tag on it: "$1,799.99." She examined it before ripping off the tag with a cackle. "That one fucking penny! Always that one fucking penny!"
By the time she reached the bottom of the stairs, Carmella had tears in her eyes from laughing so hard. When she reached her neat kitchen, Carmella put the chicken in the oven. She'd slaughtered it yesterday and got it ready so she wouldn't have to spill blood on Sunday. Once a week she sacrificed a chicken to Sunday dinner, but there were enough chickens left that she would never have to worry about it. There were probably more chickens in the world than there were humans. 
She knew this to be true, because she was the last person on Earth. 
Not that she'd walked the entire Earth. But the last time she'd seen a person was eight years ago. Maggie. Maggie was mad, the crazy kind of mad—though she was angry too, which was why they couldn't continue to live together. So yeah … two people on Earth.
