A sonnet is a lyric poem consisting of a single stanza of fourteen iambic pentameter lines linked by an intricate rhyme scheme. There are two major patterns of rhyme in sonnets written in the English language:
The Italian or Petrarchan sonnet (named after fourteenth-century Italian poet Petrarch) falls into two main parts: an octave (eight lines) rhyming abbaabba followed by a sestet (six lines) rhyming cdecde or some variant, such as cdccdc. Petrarch's sonnet was first imitated in England, by Thomas Wyatt in the early sixteenth century. The earl of surrey and other English experimenters in the sixteenth century also developed a stanza form called the English sonnet, or else the Shakespearean sonnet. This sonnet falls into three quatrains and a concluding couplet: abab cdcd efef gg.
After Wyatt and surrey, the sonnet was neglected for a number of years tills sir Philip Sidney resuscitated the dying form by composing one hundred and eight sonnets and eleven songs all put in astrophel and Stella. After the publication of Sidney's astrophel and Stella there was a rich harvest of sonnets procured by a host of writers of whom Spenser and Shakespeare are worthy of detailed consideration. Spenser composed eighty-eight sonnets of love and addressed them to Elizabeth boyle and have been given the name amoretti.
Shakespeare's sonnets, one hundred and fifty-four in number were published in 1609 by Thomas Thorpe. The entire collection of Shakespeare's sonnets consists of two clearly distinguishable series of sonnets. The first series (1-126) is addressed to a youth, and the second series (127-154) is about a certain dark mistress, to whom the poet in some senses loves, or has loved, but whom he also despises, and despises himself for loving.
Shakespeare's best remembered sonnets promise eternal life which is one of the major themes that have encouraged the young man to self-perpetuation through biological reproduction
So long as men can breathe or eyes can see,

The 1st seventeen sonnets have come to be known as procreation sonnets because the poet in repeated terms and numerous ways tries to influence the fair young man to accept the fact that he should marry, beget children and he should leave behind his progeny who would carry the lineage of the beauty in this world.
Times constant attack is often what we see in sonnet 2 Shakespeare describes its callous and relentless destruction of beauty. He writes to the fair youth
The youth's proud livery, so gazed on now
Will be tattered weed of small worth held
The poet is lamenting the passing of time and asking his friend to procreate as fairness will fade., beauty will go, time will eat up everything and in 40 years wrinkles will be there and what his friend will answer and as such in sonnet 15, 16, 17  Shakespeare's verse will be a tomb, a memorial containing lifeless body but cannot reflect the reality of a man or woman and combines immortality in and verse that when this youth will be old, if there's a child the youth will live twice as in his own child and in the rhymes and people will believe Shakespeare's rhyme seems the youths beauty to be continued in his child.
The poems temperate subject is first set in a world of extremity, unbalance and temporal decline. just as the soul has "so short a lease" on the fading mansion of the body in sonnets 146, in sonnet 18 "summers lease hath all too short a date" (146.5; 18.4). but the young man will not lose possession of the beauty he owns, unlike the soul or a summers day. Somehow, he will grow "in eternal lines to time" as in sonnet 19 time is personified in a prominent way but in the 13th line  Shakespeare realises it is useless to plead time as the patron will survive as a icon of beauty more than a metaphorical life for in order to reach eternity the visual apparatus of writing must be remembered who speaks the poems words.
Shakespeare provides a ringing endorsement of verse as something better than the gilded monuments of princess in sonnet 55 that the youth will shine in this poems than those stones tat crumble to dust, blackened by time until the judgement day "ending doom" when you are raised up, the youth will live this poetry and in the eyes of lover who  reads this.
 
Shakespeare explores the proposition that whatever he feels for his friend may be preserved through the literary art of poetry by eternalising his memory, immortalising it that in sonnet 60 by describing the ravages of time that it devours the choicest specimens of natures but yet his verses will last into the future praising his worth despite times cruel hand and eventually in sonnet 63 as he defends himself against the cruel knife of time, ensuing that he never cuts from his memory the beauty of his sweet love even if time takes his lovers life.
His beauty shall in these black lines be seen,
And they shall live, and he in them still green.
Demonstrates the power to live and breathe beyond the page and thus to survive.
The "confined doom" of sonnet 107 may also be a place: the small tomb or grave assigned to the poet's love, the young man. But now, "my love looks fresh," treated it seems "with the drops of this balmy time." And so, "thou in this shalt find thy monument" (107.4, 9-10). The aristocratic beloved will be embalmed in effect and placed in the expansive mausoleum of the poet's words, not in a confined grave.
Shakespeare also explores the idea that love, as an ideal that is inviolable and impervious to times erosive effects, thus in sonnet 115, Shakespeare explains that his earlier sonnets were overwhelmed by the fear of times tyranny ( alas, why, fearing of times tyranny,") and too little aware of the continually growing and counteracting power of love to outlive time, and eventually in sonnet 116 Shakespeare returns to the same theme, explains that "love is not love/which alters when it alteration finds," and he refers to it as "an ever fixed mark".
The image of ideal love that the poet feels towards the fair youth stands in direct contrast to the lustful love the poet feels towards the dark lady, where the lust is transient and inevitably passes with time, but the pure and ideal love that the poet feels towards the fair youth, is capable of evading times tyranny and surviving for eternity
Shakespeare's sonnets are still fervently read today, four centuries after they were published, is testament to the ability of poetry to transcend time and his poetry still remains to recount the story of his love for youth. Moreover, the fact that many essays about the fair youth and his immortalisation have been written in the centuries since Shakespeare's death demonstrates that the youth's legacy still survives as he himself wrote
"so long as men can breathe or eyes can see," (sonnet 18).

Hi! My name is Sharmaine. My full name is Sharmaine Violet Mendoza, I am a highschool student. Single pero not ready to mingle kasi nga, nag-aaral pa ako. I write stories or poems in my spare time, and by spare time, I mean all the time.

So here am I at my room. Writing another sonnet which is an assignment. Sonnet, meaning ten syllables each line. Title n'on ay "Red Roses and Blue Violets". Parang ang cliché diba?  Because it is! I like clichés pero I make sure to not use them all the time, kasi nakaka-uta din and cringy.

So 'yun. Tomorrow is Monday. You see... last day na kasi ng sem-break namin. Ang gulo noh, sem-break pero may assignment? Gan'on lang talaga sa school namin. Mahilig magpa-assignment. Kaya nahihirapan kami.

Habang lumalalim ang gabi, mas madami akong naisip na ilagay sa papel ko. 

Hmmm... What if I start at a cliché? 

'Roses are red and Violets are blue'

Ayun! Saktong ten syllables.

I wrote those words down. And I scanmed my previous poems for ideas.

'Yes, I see you have approached me,
One reason is the answer you seek,
Take a look around, what do you see,
A hope at the horizon across a deep sea?'

Hmmm... what if I take some of these ideas?

Gan'to lang ginawa ko until I finished the whole sonnet. Scan, write, scan and write. Tumingin ako sa wall clock na nasa bandang kanan ko lang.

Shacks! 12 na. Baka ma-late ako sa pagpasok ko bukas. 

Since na pagod naman din ako. I just retired and called it a day. I went to my closet and picked out a cute pair of pink and white pajamas. I untied my hair 'tapos plopped to my bed.

Ahhh, ang sarap sa feeling ng malambot kong kama. So satisfying.

Nakatulog din naman agad ako. Napagod din kasi ung brain ko sa kakaisip ng ilalagay sa pesteng assignment na yan. Plus, 'di pa maayos yung body clock ko. Mahihirapan nanaman ako mag-adjust.

Hays, good night world. May pasok na bukas.

Hearing her chuckles, Fu Hanzheng also smiled.
Two days had passed, and she had eventually decided to call him… and, it was also the first time that she had asked him for help.
"What do you want me to do, so you can go to sleep?"
Although he would rather spend the entire night chatting with her, she was already tired after flying to that place and attending the film festival, and early the next morning, she was supposed to visit another city for the promotional pitch, so she had to take a rest now.
Gu Weiwei lay down with the phone and said, between chuckles, "Continue with your poems."

Even now he tried to choke him with love, halfway across the globe.
However, the two were having such a sweet conversation that he was totally forgotten.
Fu Shiqin just could not stand it anymore. He made a call and woke up Fu Shiyi who was far away in Shengxi Town.
"Damn it, I haven't slept for two days, what are you making this call for?"
Fu Shiyi cursed as the phone call went through.
"Stop sleeping! Get up and feel the love with me!"
Fu Shiqin put the phone onto speaker and placed it in front of the computer, live streaming how his own brother was reading the love poems.
Fu Shiyi could tell that he was speaking with Mu Weiwei next room after hearing the tone his brother was using.
So he said proudly.
"Hey, second brother, you must thank me! But for my wonderful idea, you would not be able to feel such fresh love now."
He had lived for more than twenty years and he had never known that his brother had any knowledge of love poems.
Unfortunately, he was only able to hear what his brother was talking about, not what Mu Weiwei was saying. The love was not filling enough.
In the room next to him, Gu Weiwei was smiling brightly on the phone.
It must be because of Fu Hanzheng who had given her so much sweet love.
So the rationality had told her that this man was of great danger.
But on this night when she got both sad and frightened.
She still could not help but want to get a touch of sweetness from him so that the bitterness and misery inward could be driven away.
When Fu Hanzheng finished three poems, it was already three in the morning.
"Still not sleepy?"
He thought about sparing more time reading more poems or story books.

He had once asked He Chi about her nightmare.
He Chi said that it was probably because she had gained some inward shadow so due to the car accident she experienced before and the tremendous change happening in her family.
She might not look anything strange in daily time, but when she was sleeping, she would be met with such nightmares.
Gu Weiwei chuckled. "Even if I call you again, you still can't be here with me."
"So you want me to sleep with you?" Fu Hanzheng countered.
On the computer, Fu Shiqin almost spilt the coffee whilst waiting for him to return.
Mu Weiwei, what on earth are you talking about?!
Luckily he was not in Africa for work.
Otherwise, his brother would surely have given him tons of work to do whilst flying directly to her overnight.

The Grand Royal Palace Hotel- Paris

"So what do you plan to do now? Are you really staying in Paris for a month? And then renting out your apartment? Where are you going to stay when you return to Beijing then?"
Wu Mei Li and Zhao Yue stayed at another hotel after the revelation of Chen Zhang and Lu Yi Jie's betrayal and the questions asked were countless.
Mei Li, who was sitting on her designated bed, sighed, "Calm Down." 
Mei Li patted the place beside her. Yue sat down before leaning her head towards Mei Li's shoulders. 
"I can't calm down unless you answer all my questions!" Yue stomped her feet with a pout and then cutely glancing upward at Mei Li's. 
Mei Li touched the long beach curls on Yue's hair with a smile, "I need to go to Italy next week for the exhibit of my second collection. Aside from that, Paris is a wonderful country to draw inspiration from."
"You want to paint now, right?"
Seeing the questioning gaze Mei Li sent on Yue's direction, the younger girl laughed at the beauty, "You always paint your emotions out. The theme for the First exhibit was 'A Friendship to Last' when we became best friends for three years then the second one was 'Hoping for Tomorrow' when you were in a relationship, and now the theme 'Breaking Hearts' clearly shows you already knew about Chen Zhong's affairs."
Mei Li's smile was sad, and Yue could not help but hug her close. Yue had known Mei Li for ten years, and this was the first that she saw her orphan friend broken hearted. Mei Li"s face was calm and at ease but Yue knew that inside she was neither but instead emotions warred. Her carefully plastered masked of calmness was the wall even Yue could not break even knowing each other for a decade. 
"Don't worry, you still have my parents and me," Yue mumbled softly. "We should call them soon too. They were really worried when I had our private plane arranged after I got a text from my brother."
And suddenly Yue's phone vibrated in a cue. 
Opening the message app, Yue's eyes widen. She showed her phone to Mei Li with glee and read the message aloud.

And then another text came from the same sender with just a title of a poem, Yue promptly opened the other text with confusion.

Mei Li giggled cutting the momentary silence as Yue pouted heavily and crossed her arms. Knowing Yue, Mei Li knew what was coming.
"What are you guys talking? First, You in the Elevator and now my Older Brother with poems! I demand an explanation!"
Mei Li giggled again momentarily forgetting the hurt in her heart. How wonderful it was to have a true friend. 
"Calm Down," Mei Li's gentle voice did not calm the storm raging in Yue's eyes. 
Mei Li sighed while looking directly into Yue's eyes, " Firstly, In the elevator, I told him that I already knew what Chen Zhong was doing and would like him to be lenient with whatever he wants to do with him because I might have led him to do it." 
"Why did you mention those names then?"
"I made a reference about the betrayal in the book Count of Monte Christo to his situation while I referred to the Biblical story of Abraham with Sarah and Hagar.."
"I still don't get it."
"You would if you read." Mei Li softly poked Yue's side playfully.
"… but that's boring. And the poems?"
"The Poems is merely him confirming my plea to be lenient… The first poem says that the author is as tired as the listener. The second is a sonnet by William Shakespeare saying that what we had with the cheating couple was not mutual love."
Yue blinked continuously in confusion, "Both of you are too weird. Why don't you communicate like ordinary mortals?"
Mei Li merely smiled while still looking at the first text that CEO Yang had sent. The fact that the first poem wrote the poem as if the poet was saying it to his lover was left unsaid. The first poem had a lot of meaning, some vivid while some vague. Mei Li could not bear to tell Yue, who had already once tried to scheme them together. 
"… what about the apartment? Didn't you already bought that condo unit?" Yue continued to ask her questions
"…Yeah, but I'll still be renting it out. The memories are still fresh, so I'm just going to stay at my Studio near East Park in downtown."
Yue poked Mei Li and with a pout that was asking Mei Li to pamper her, "You can always stay with me! Next month will be my 26th Birthday, so you have to help me prepare!" 
"I don't know…" 
"…Please, please, please! You don't even have to give me a gift!" Yue began to get on her knees with both her hands clasp into Mei Li's.
"I don't want to bother.." Mei Li hesitantly answered. She had stayed at Zhao Mansion before, most of those nights spent gossiping with Yue in her pink and lavish room.
"Come on! Mom and Dad love you! Besides the Mansion is big enough that even you staying for a year, would not bother them." Yue insisted. Yue's insistence always made Mei Li uncomfortable, and the more Yue begs for it, the more Mei Li would cave.
"…Just for your birthday?" Mei Li asked, unsure.
"Just for my birth month!" 
Mei Li stared at Yue's large doe eyes that were starting to water. Mei Li sighed again. Mei Li knew that Yue was doing it on purpose, but she always fell for it.
"Two days?" Mei Li started negotiating.
Yue had an affronted look, "No, four weeks!"
"If I stay for that long, you might grow bored with my face. Whatever shall I do if you leave me all to my lonely self?" the joke was snidely said by Mei Li.
Yue refuses to give up! 
"There will be a banquet on the 30th for my birthday and Mom had told me to organize it myself. She used to organize it for me, so I have no idea what to do first. Help me?"
Yue widen her eyes then started to think of scary thoughts so it would water. She needs tears, dammit. 
"…and I have to organize a small dinner with the family on the 28th since it's a family tradition; always to celebrate our birthday dinner with family… You know how much I hate fancy restaurants that serve small servings! I want a barbecue with meat! Lots and lots of meat…" Yue continued to act pitiful.
Yue and Mei Li stared at each other for a while. As if the person who will look away will be the loser of this argument. 
Mei Li pointed out in a murmur,"…You don't even know how to shop for yourself…"
"…and that's why you have to stay with me and help me organize, please." 
Cue the tears that gathered in Yue's eyes. 
Mei Li put her hands in the air as surrender and said, "Fine! But I plan to go back to the capital on the 7th of November, so I'll stay at the Mansion starting on the 8th until your banquet on the 30th."
Yue started her victory dance which made Mei Li smile once again. 
"YES! Wait let me text my parents!"
"Tell your Mom that I'm available to visit the exhibit together on November 4. I think that's Sunday…" murmured Mei Li as she gathered her clothes into her arms. 
Yue merely nodded.

If you ask me of her, I could not encapsulate her being with just mere words; 
As if words could describe the beauty that is Wu Mei Li, the woman that epitomizes love,
Her brown eyes like the color of the sun’s kisses which fills me with undiluted warmth,
Her red lips like those seductive thorny Roses passionate enough to draw me in,

Her smooth skin like the iridescent sheen of a pearl that baits my greedy hands to touch,
and her tantalizing tenderness paired with her spine of kryptonite defeated my Superman heart of steel. 
Only she could play my heart into pieces and still make me ask for more.
