The ovation and the screams were at the loudest, Camera lights were at the highest almost blinding me and I felt like the celebrity in the house.

The bright light made Kiko dizzy. It was blinding, and though they were strongly threwn, he forced himself to stay awake and see what had happened. However, the invisible impact was too powerful that he succumbed and laid flat on the ground.

Kiko had always felt the need to do the best in eveything he did. He was not the best in everything, he knew that, so there was no point in doing something he could not be any good. He also knew who was the best in everything - his brother Jackson.

How did he know that? Simply because Jackson was admired in all aspects. He was the kind that could make all girls turn their heads. He was in first year high school, tall, good-looking, and smart in everything. He was pretty brilliant in science and super quick in math. He read a lot so he was remarkably knowledgeable in history, geography, and current events. He was also athletic. Despite being just a freshman in Subangdaku Rural High School, he was an indispensable player in the school's basketball, volleyball, and track and field varsities. Above everything else, he could sing really well. He was not the singing contest type, but he could melt any heart once he sang ballad and jazz.

And Kiko always felt a pang of envy and sadness everytime he was compared with his brother. When he was younger, people did not see any potential in him. He was an introvert boy who would rather sulk in his room and draw random shapes in his pads than basking under the sun and play with other kids.

"Why does Kiko keep locking himself up in his room? Is he that shy? What future awaits him if he is like that?"

"Look at his brother. He is very reliable!" 

"Is Kiko not like any normal kid?" 

"No wonder he is not good in school, he is not doing any good with his time."

"Why is he not like his brother?"

Kiko always heard those words, and though he kept telling himself not to be affected, he was still hurt each time people insulted him. It was as if people enjoyed stabbing him continuously. At a young age, he was deeply wounded. 

He did not hate Jackson. It was not his fault that he was the perfect son, but there was always a pressure for Kiko to do well. Not to mention that he bore his father's name - Francisco Banting, Jr. So when he got older, he strived to be perfect in the things he did best. He needed people's approval, especially his parents. He did not have to surpass his brother, he just need to be in equal footing with him. So when he was in third grade, he abandoned his shy self and became the annoying Kiko.

He became outspoken and cheeky. He played sports but he was not really into them so he crossed them out from his "excellence" list. He also did not perform satisfactorily in his academics (he was either in the second or third section) so they were also disregarded. However, Kiko had interest in writing poems, essays, and short stories. He kept notebooks of his literary outputs. So when he auditioned as a writer in the school's publication, he was instantly accepted. That gave him a lot of confidence, so much that he ran as president of his class and as officer in other clubs in school. And yes, he won them all.

He might have ruled the election results but Kiko felt that most of the kids were not sincere in voting him. They did not believe in him. They just voted him to see when he would fail and to prove they were right - that Kiko was good for nothing. 

Yet, Kiko countered their expectations, proving them all wrong. He turned out to be an effective student leader. He was hard-working and meticulous. His projects were accomplished on time and with pleasing results, like their classroom Christmas tree, donations for victims of fire, and tree planting activity in the school. By and by, he gained everybody's respect and they followed him. Still, the kids kept their distance from and Kiko remained alone with himself most of the time.

It was in fourth grade when he became friends with the trio. Jamie and Tonton submitted a couple of poems to the school publication and requested at least two must be published. Kiko, being critical and perfectionist, was blown away with their demand. He was not also impressed with their works and rejected them outright. The boys argued and they ended in a funny tussle.

"You know what, I think you are cool," Jamie said after they were sent to the guidance counselor's office.

"Did not expect that you have a good punch," Tonton complimented, his left eye beginning to darken already.

Kiko flashed a big smile despite the sore in his left cheek. He felt great having a fight with other boys. It was two against one. That very day, they became friends. Nonetheless, two poems from Jamie and Tonton appeared in the school paper. 

Kiko knew that the duo were popular in school and he felt honored to be part of their circle. He finally had friends and it was like being at home at last. Kiko could not be any happier and he would do anything to keep and protect their friendship.

Then one day, he found himself waking up to a distressed place. Subangdaku was ashen and devastated. On the ground were his three friends, lying in a pool of blood....

Kiko jolted to the vision. It was scary and the dizziness he felt earlier instantly evaporated. He felt like he was suspended between dreams and reality. It was unbelievable and shocking, he remained motionless.

Later, his eyes surveyed the surrounding. It was still night and the blinding spectacle up in the heavens had finally ended. It happened only minutes ago but it felt like years in the dreamworld. He needed to see his friends. He turned around and saw a broad silhouette approaching.

"Bogart," his whispered, happy to see his wobbly body moving around. And for certain, he believed that no harm could have happened to his friends.

Situated between a large river and verdant mountains, Subangdaku is a peaceful and laid-back community. For the Biker Brothers - Jamie, Tonton, Bogart and Kiko, life in the district was all fun and easy. Until something happens.....

Two "meteors" hit the once quiet district. In the succeeding days, scientists and media flocked in Subangdaku, disturbing its serenity and bringing changes to the community. How far can the people face the challenges?

Meanwhile, a girl with golden locks arrives in the primary school. She swept the hearts and eyes of everyone, including the Biker Brothers. Yet, the four friends felt something is really off about her. Who is she? What are her secrets?

As Subangdaku embraces the consequences of the "meteor" impact, the Biker Brothers must race to confront the changes within them. As evil lurks and intends to destroy the townspeople, the boys must speed to stop it with the help of their friends and loved ones. Will they triumph? Or will the evil simply destroy them?

As I previously said , the purpose of this book is to free myself . From my thoughts . By thinking them over before writing them , and analyzing them with the cold reasoning Sherlock Holmes himself uses . Without being emotional . Because everything that is emotional is opposite to that cold judgement . I know one of the chapters made me cry so bad , but that is because that wound is this open . It hasn't healed yet . And it won't so soon . But the others were long healed . I just wanted to remember and to live throught those moments again . Those were made to make me more understandable by you , my reader , and to feel like I'm really getting rid of any hate for them . 
This is the first book I've ever published , and I'm doing it every day . However , this isn't the first time I write my thought . You name it : diary , notepad , lines , songs , poems . The most disturbing ones were for the notepad on my computer . I usually cried while writing them , for I put my very heart and opinion into them . But as time flew , I deleted some of them , scared someone could find them , but even more because they were impulses . That short impulse made me feel so many emotions , which gradually calmed me by writing them . So I deleted them . I kept only 2 . Which are my general opinion about daily topics . I will gradually repost them here , so you can see how a short impulse can generate so many words and so many emotions . 
This book also serves as an exercise itself . Funny , right ? It's like a track daily diary , were I put my most personal opinions and give the earnest pieces of advice , leaving a mark on this earth and life , while learning how to love myself . It's the evidence that I'm trying everyday to stop procrastinating , to growing , to glowing , and to improving more other things . This is also my way of communicating deeper topics , which I cannot bring myself to say with my own mouth . As a surprise , this is my first attempt of writing something freely , before getting into designing characters . I want to make a story composed 100% by me . I don't aspire to be a miracle writer , like JK Rowling , but at least I can do something that pleases me , and others , without feeling like I should put the latter one on a pedestal . How I actually do . I don't want to pursue a writing life , because in the future I would be feeding some mouths , so I need to make a living . I'm not saying writers don't earn much , but before that there are lots of ups and downs , and I need to take care of people who took care of me . 
So what kind of book would you be interested in ? A thriller ? A drama ? A romantic comedy ? Strange enough , I'm an incurable romantic , but also an action lover . Be prepared for everything . 
Just you wait . Tell me the blessing you had today . For me , it might be the chance to make things as I want them to be . For being completely in control . For having parents that understand that I can purchase anything wisely .

It was actually my first time to ride a bike with a guy here who happened to be my date all of a sudden. 

Saying a yes for allowing him to date me was just a spur in the moment.

"It's really beautiful here," aniya na ngayon ay sumasabay sa akin sa pagpadyak ng kaniyang bisikleta.

"I agree," tugon ko saka sumulyap sa paligid. 
Dagdag ko, "Lalo na kapag magandang katulad ko ang kasama mo." 

Nanliit ang kaniyang mga mata habang nangingiti dahil sa aking sinabi. Natawa ako kasi hindi na naman niya ako naintindihan.

"What's that?" Sa halip na sagutin siya ay umiling ako.

"Hey, that's unfair! You should've at least tell me!" natatawang reklamo niya.

"No," mabilis kong sagot.

"You're so unfair!"

"Just never mind," sagot ko lang saka pumadyak nang mabilis.

"Hey, Calli! Wait for me!"

Maganda ang panahon kaya sinulit namin iyon para maglibot at kumain. At dahil isang Russian ang kasama ko at question of honor daw para sa isang katulad niyang nakikipag-date kung ako na babae ang magbabayad sa aming pagkain at sa kung anu-ano pa, malaki ang natipid ko—ni singko ay ayaw niya akong pagbayarin. 

Kahit nahihiya na ako ay sadyang mapilit siya kaya sa huli'y hinayaan ko na lamang rin. Sinamantala rin namin ang pagkakataong iyon bilang unang araw ng aming... date.

Nang magdapit-hapon na ay nagpahinga kami mula sa pag-iikot. Isa rin kasi sa maganda rito sa Hangang Park ay ang pagkakaroon nito nang malawak na espasyo para magpahinga at maupo.

Doon ako palihim na nagtext kay Mama. Sinabi kong nasa Itaewon na ako kasama si Lola Yumi.

Nagpadala rin ako ng mensahe kay Lola Yumi na may dadaanan lamang ako at huwag na niya iyong ipapaalam kay Mama.

Nilingon ko si Maxim na nasa isang booth naman.
Renting a mat is a new thing at iyon ang ginawa namin ni Maxim. Naupo kami sa damuhan gamit ang nirentahan niyang mat saka pinanood ang papalubog ng araw. 

Tons of flyers of delivery services for fried chicken, McDonald's or McDelivery, pizza, Korean-Chinese foods, and even Bossam were just everywhere, but it's too early for us to eat again.

"Isn't it funny how times seems to slip away so fast?"

Habang katabi ko si Maxim ay napalingon ako sa gawi niya. Nakatingin siya sa akin habang kumakanta.

"One minute you're happy, the other you're sad," pagpapatuloy niya.

"Singing all of a sudden?" nakangiti kong sabi pero mas lalo lang siyang ngumiti.

"But if you give me one more chance to show my love for you is true. I'll stand by your side—your whole life trough."

"Hey," natatawa ko pang sabi at mahina siyang hinampas sa kaniyang braso. "What are you doing?"

"Why? What's wrong?" Ngumiti siyang muli. "I'm singing." 

Magsasalita pa lamang sana ulit ako nang ipagpatuloy niyang muli ang kaniyang pagkanta.

"If life is short why won't you let me love you before we run out of time? If love is so strong why won't you take the chance before our time has come. If life is so short... if life is so short..."

Bahagya akong nakaramdam ng kilig dahil bukod sa nasa akin lang ang kaniyang atensyon ay kinakantahan niya pa ako. Bigla ko tuloy naisip kung ano ba ang dahilan at bigla niya akong gustong i-date?

Parang may bigla sumapak sa ulo ko at ipinaalalang... baka hindi ito seryoso.

Hindi.
Ngunit binalewala ko muna iyon.

"You have a good voice," puri ko sa kaniya pagkatapos niyang kumanta. "Very pleasing to my ears."

"Ah," nagkakamot sa ulo niyang tugon. "You think so?" Tumango naman ako.

"How about my face? Is my visual look good, too?"

Pabiro akong sumimangot. Aking sagot, "Your face? Let me think about it."

"Tss. So mean."

Bahagya naman akong natawa nang irapan niya ako. Bago ako muling nagsalita ay napatingin ako sa araw na papalubog pa lamang.

Sabi ko, "And you're actually romantic," tumingin ako sa kaniya, "even if you don't look like one." 

Napabungisngis siya kaya lihim akong napangiti. Sabay pa kaming tumingin sa araw bago siya muling nagsalita.

"Do I really look tough and terror? Like a monster or beast?"

Iwinagayway kong parehas ang aking mga kamay senyales ng hindi pagsang-ayon sa kaniyang sinabi.

"Crazy! It's not what I meant. That's too much, you know," sagot ko. 

"Well, um... you really don't know?" na sa tonong pang-aasar ko sa kaniya.

"Yeah right?" Tumawa siya. "Russians like me have a softer side, and—hey! What's funny?"
Halos kagatin ko na ang sarili kong labi para lamang huwag matawa nang tuluyan kaso kahit anong gawin ko ay hindi ko ito mapigilan.

Softer side? Ang tapang-tapang kasi talaga niyang tingnan.

"N-nothing," sabi ko habang umiiling-iling pa. "Go ahead. Continue."

"You're weird," sagot niya saka ako kinunutan ng noo. 

"Alright. You know," lumunok siya, "we really enjoy reciting songs, poems, movie quotes, or lines from a book that will melt any woman's heart within earshot."

"Whoa. That's too much," pang-aasar ko. "Melt? Really?" nakataas na kilay ko pang sabi.

"Why? Your heart melt when I sang, right?"

Napatitig ako sa kaniya. Ang tono ng boses niya'y na sa tono ng pagmamalaki na akala mo'y sigurado siyang nakuha niya ang atensiyon ko kanina habang siya'y kumakanta.

Pabiro ko siyang hinampas sa kaniyang braso saka ko sinabing, "You're so full of yourself! No way!"

"Admit it! You like it!"

"O-of course not!"

"Come on. You like it," sabi pa niya sabay ngisi. 
Maganda naman nga ang kaniyang boses na dahilan para mapatitig ako sa kaniya kanina.

"Whatever!"

"See," aniya saka humiga. "Even if the expression on my face looks like I've eaten a raw bear, I'm actually warm and gentle on the inside."

"Raw bear meat? Warm and gentle? Funny." 

Nang lingunin ko siya ay saka ako nakaisip ng susunod naming gagawin. 

Aking tanong, "Would you like to have some drink with me?"
