Then, the night before classes started, Remy had his first genuine conversation with Allen. It happened when he had come back from dinner with his friends and Remy was on his bed watching Netflix.
"Oh, my god! Are you watching Big Mouth?" Allen exclaims.
"Yeah," Remy replies without looking away from the screen.
"I fucking love that show. Oh, do you watch Rick and Morty, too?"
Remy finally pauses the show and makes eye contact, "That is literally my favorite show of all time! What else do you watch?"
And the boys went on and on about different shows they watched, recommending new ones and quoting ones they had ingrained in their memories.
And that night, when Remy went to bed, he felt giddy and excited about the next day. It was just a simple conversation, and that probably shouldn't mean a lot to him, but it did. It made him feel confident. It made him feel like an approachable person who people would want to talk to. And though this emotion made Remy feel energetic and therefore unable to sleep for over an hour, it was still nice to feel after the last week of dreariness.

At a festival, 18-year-old Remy overhears a very private conversation. He listens as two people talk about killing another person. He is compelled to follow them and witnesses as a boy about his age murders another teenager. But was this taking of another's life justified? Remy soon finds that he is unable to separate himself from these people and must get closer to this boy in order to find out what brought him into a situation where he needed to kill someone.

Warning: There are mentions of sexual assault throughout this book. The actual act is not explicitly described, but if you are sensitive to that kind of thing, you might want to skip this book.

Rupesh whistled as he walked the deserted corridors, checking the rooms on autopilot and shook his head as he considered his earlier conversation with Aurora. 
"What was that wink?" He thought to himself. 
Aurora was in the library most evenings and it was his favourite part of the day to smile at her on his rounds and have a few words of polite conversation. He'd always thought she was beautiful, the way her eyes lit up when she talked about her projects made him smile too. He'd long thought about asking her for a drink but whenever he'd plucked up the courage someone had interrupted him or he'd lost his nerve. 
But, tonight was the night. He'd offer her a lift home, since he always worried about her alone in the dark, and then ask if she'd like to get a cup of coffee at some point. He smiled to himself at the thought of sitting in a coffee shop with her. 
As he approached the library for the second time this evening, since he'd worked almost an hour late just to give her more time in the place she loved, he saw the light was still on and his heart felt lighter knowing she was still there and he hadn't missed his chance. 
Walking confidently through the door, he searched the room for her, when she wasn't on the ground floor he went back to the half-finished exhibition area to see if she was still there. Though the lights were still on and the boxes all open, she was nowhere to be seen. 
Aurora was very conscious of the environment, often quoting lines from David Attenborough to him, and would never have left the lights on if she'd gone home for the night. Then he noticed the piece of white bone that she'd been looking at was gone from the table too, knowing she'd never steal he began to look for other explanations. Checking the inventory for the exhibition, he noticed that no such item was described on the log. "Perhaps it had belonged to her then?" he mused. 
Ignoring the slight gnawing feeling that something was wrong, he gave in to the disappointment that he'd have to wait to talk till tomorrow to her again. He did one last search of the room, turned the lights off and locked the door. 
Had he turned back, he may have noticed her coat hanging on the back of the door, but he stalked out into the night in search of tea and perhaps a biscuit.

8:00 pm.
 
Customers coming in and out as I wait for Aspen.
 
"Yeah, that's why I canceled our road trip on that woods after I saw that video on Youtube"
 
"it's too scary and doesn't seem to be fake"
 
"Many people died there. Some legends say that there was a mansion thought he woods but couldn't seem to find it due to the vast space in the forest"
 
I leaned against my seat, listening to the conversation behind my seat.
 
"It still main a mystery, huh?"
 
"Since when did that happened though?"
 
"I guess it was 1999," a girl said and drink her food.
 
The group of girls talking behind me walked out of the diner and saw Aspen entered. "Hey!" I was interrupted when she came, waving her hand. "Thanks for the wait"
 
She looked at the girls behind her and walks to my seat, "pretty girls eh? You looked at them as they stormed out"
 
"Yeah..and I overhead an interesting conversation from them"
 
"oh yeah?" she said, looking at me as she motioned the waitress to list the orders. The waitress walks towards us with a note and pen in her hand, waiting for Aspen to order.
 
"I would like some... Fries and.." tracing her hand on the menu, "and a burger please" and look at the waitress, smiling.
 
"Fries and a burger... How about you?" the waitress grumpily asked, "I like what she's having"
 
The waitress sighed, "Alright" and scribbled the orders on the note. Aspen averted her gaze from the waitress that walks out and look at me.
 
"So, what is their "interesting" conversation?" she said, quoting the word interesting.
 
"It seems the same case in the newspaper that you brought in the club room two days ago"
 
 Aspen crossed her arms, leaning against her seat. "huh, interesting"
 
"Indeed and they said someone died in the woods and.." I pulled out my phone and open a video, "and I think it's the same as what I sent you. There is something on the woods"
 
"Like what? Killer again or something?"
 
I shrugged, uncertain to answer her question. "I don't know but I guess we should really check that wood out."
 
Before she could speak, I cut her sentence off.
 
"And we could say it's the same as the woods where.." hesitating to continue.
 
"Where Nick died," she said, completing it.
 
"Yeah, but we should find more clues about it"
 
She smirked, "Easy"
 
Their orders arrived and discuss as they eat.
 
"I'll send the few files or websites then," Alexander said, hop on his car.
 
"Okayy. I'll also do some research about the woods" Aspen said, climbing up on her motorbike, grabbed her helmet and they drove off.
 
It was already 1am and Alexander is in his seat, in front of his laptop. His eyes fixated on the screen as he scrolled and type on his keyboard. He opens a new tab window and looked outside, what would be related to woods...
 
He resumed typing and was interrupted by a sudden voice that is vaguely heard downstairs, he took a glance at his door and look back to his laptop.
 
"Phobus, Open up!"
 
Alexander stood up and went downstairs. He opened his door and no one was there. He went outside and let his eyes wandered around. He went back and inside and closed the door, he headed back to his room and sit in front of his laptop.
 
 
His attention is interrupted again but it's not a voice but someone scratching, he turned around and no one was there. He grabbed his earphones, plugged them into his laptop and listened to some music. After searching about the woods, he smiled as he found something interesting. He smirks as he copied the link and send it to Aspen.
 
Aspen: "Nice. See you tomorrow"

Life went twist and turn as Alexander Hughes, a 20 year old college student woke up in an unusual setting. Not later than he realized he is in the book that a local antique owner shop gave him for free. Little did he know that the more he encountered characters that involves in horrifying events and chilling chapters, the more it is endless. Sooner, a character from a book told him that reading the book was a mistake. Aderyn's POV
As I was standing near the window, the cool breeze hitting my face made me feel better. The sweats that were forming on my forehead made me feel cold. I was panting continuously due to the heavy practice I just did.
I looked back and eyed the piece scattered in the floor. Sand everywhere. The thing which was previously called a Sandbag was scattered into pieces by none other but me. It wasn't new to me. That was the reason why I brought more than one sandbags. I looked down at my gloves and got rid of it.
I cannot practice in my room. I need a big place. Somewhere bigger and open space. I have to clean all this mess now.
It took me some minutes and finally I was done cleaning the room. Folding the already of no use sandbag, I kept it into a bag that I had. I will dispose it later.
I had been practicing since last two hours. Now I am hungry and sweaty.
I took a long shower and wrapped up my hair with a towel. I wore a black bathrobe and went out of my bathroom to my room.
I was just about to walk into my walk in closet when my eyes felt on the open drawer. I remember closing it before going for a bath. With furrowed eyebrows, I went there and checked the medicines, stuffs messily scattered. It wasn't how I kept things. I believed upon disciplinary and hence my things were always clean and neat, kept in right place.
"Bell." I spoke feeling a presence behind me.
"Ahhhh," she screamed and with an amused smile I turned around to find her holding an ointment and her another hand clutching her chest, her eyes widened.
"Ho- How did you know?" She stuttered asking me her question.
I shrugged my shoulders and with a serious look told her pointing towards the draw, "clean it."
She gave me a sheepish grin but nodded and walked to the drawer arranging the things back in its place.
I glanced her way and turned around walking inside the walk in closet. I chose to wear a slacks today with long sleeves and baggy brown shirt. My hair was damp so I left it open to let it dry on its own.
"Alpha wants to see you," she spoke out of nowhere.
"What for?" I snapped. I hated hearing anything about him.
"I don't know," she shrugged her shoulders.
"No wait! Tell me how did you know that he wants to see me when you didn't even use a phone?" I asked her suspiciously and she stared at me for some minutes probably thinking of an appropriate answer
"He told me when I was coming here. I remembered it now. It just slip out of my mind," she told me and sat on the bed, flipping channels in TV.
"When does he wants to," I said air quoting the words, "see me?" I asked to which she gave me an amused look.
"After an hour," she spoke and I nodded flopping on to the bed next to her.
When I found my hair completely dry, I braided it sideways. I wore my canvas and we both went out of the room after locking the door, we went to 'see' the Alpha Idiot.
Upon reaching his room, I noticed some guys. They were talking to Dylan and as usual Dylan was throwing orders on them. We waited for their conversation to get over.
After five minutes of waiting, finally the body builder dudes went away but not before throwing a glance our way.
"Alpha." Bell spoke and he signaled us to come in.
We went in and waited for him to speak.
"Sit," he told us and we quietly sat on the chair while he sat on his behind his wooden desk.
"Why do you wanted to." I asked air quoting the words 'see me' sweetly making Bell choking a laugh.
"Miss Brooke-" He began but I cut him off. "Call me Aderyn." How many days was he planning on to maintain the formalities?
He gave me a look and spoke. "Miss Brookes," making me roll my eyes.
"Miss Brookes I have appointed a trainer for you," he told me and I have him a look as if he had two horns in his head.
"What trainer?" I asked my voice suspicious.
"Trainer means he will teach you how to fight," he told me and I couldn't control myself. I busted out laughing, clutching my stomach.
He kept quiet and gave me a weird look while Bell touched my arm trying to silent me.
Finally when I was done, I composed myself saying a quiet. "Sorry," and questioned. "Trainer? Fight? What for?"
"Miss Brookes we have loads of enemy and I don't think that we will be always present to save you from them. Hence, I have decided to train you. At least you should know the basic so that you can put up a fight when you are in trouble till we reach you," he told me and I seriously wanted to get up from my place and slap him across his face.
"What if I deny to train?" I asked him leaning against my chair, Bell giving me a pleading look to stop.
"Then I am afraid that I have to give you security. You cannot go out of your room without security guards," he told me and gave me a smirk knowing that I will never agree upon this.
"Fine I will." I said air quoting again, "train." He gave me a satisfied look and was about to speak something but stopped when I showed him my palms to stop.
"Only when you give me an answer," I told him, my friendly behavior long gone, with a serious look warning him not to lie.
His expression changed to a surprising one but as usual he masked it quickly as it came.
"Answers?" He spoke and I nodded.
"What type of enemies do you have and why do you have enemies and what is the real reason behind this training?" I spoke and I was sure I saw him getting tensed under my gaze.
He never expected me to ask such questions for sure.
"Enemies uh you will know soon," he told me and I was really irritated.
Though I expected him to give me appropriate answer but somehow I found myself getting irritated.
I gave him a cold look and he averted his gaze to some of his papers that were lying in his desk.
"Mr. Bishop?" I spoke and he looked up at me with a raised eyebrow.
I stared at him for some seconds but said, "nothing."
He gave me an questioning look and I was sure he wanted to know what I wanted to ask but he never pushed.
"Take her to the gym room after thirty minutes." Dylan spoke more like ordered Bell and she nodded.
"Miss Brookes you can wear something uh you know appropriate for the training," though I wanted to roll my eyes I nodded.
"That's all," he said and we both got up from our seats and began to exit.
"Aderyn," he called and I looked back at him surprised.
"Uh don't wear anything revealing or which would show skin," he said giving me a warning look.
Bell chuckled beside me and I began to thought what is his problem if I wear anything revealing.
I gave him a half smile and walked out of his room. Man I had to train now. What in the world does everyone in here have the problem with me?
Sighing, I walked back to my room and went through every cloth that was appropriate. I am not doing this because Dylan asked me but the fact that I wanted a bigger room for practice. There is profit in this. I will be practicing with the trainers that means the best hence I will be improvising more.
Generally I never wore revealing clothes hence I don't even have any. So, I decided to wear a half sleeve black camisole and above it a black tank top. I matched it with a pink fit sports slacks and slipped on my shoes. I made pleats in my hair and tied it back so, that it wouldn't disturb me while training.
I checked myself on the mirror and found myself ready. With a satisfactory smile I waited for Bell to take me to this gym room.

 "Oh, yeah! I almost forgot to ask you, who commentates on the quidditch matches 'ere?" asked Aurora, since Alex told her that nobody stood a chance against the Gryffindor quidditch team at the tryouts, she has been thinking about the ways to associate herself with the wizarding sport at Hogwarts.
 "yea, I think his name is Lee Jordan from Gryffindor, gives everybody a good laugh during the matches, even us Slytherins, although we try to hide it with booing, 'Slytherin Pride' they like to call it," answered Alex off-handly. They continued with their conversation as they walked to the great hall. Some people kept giving them an odd glance, it was every day you could see Gryffindor and Slytherin who got along, but that wasn't the only reason, Ary's hair's ends kept changing its colour from pink to purple and then back to her natural blonde. To say that she was surprised by being a metamorphagus was an understatement, but the weirdest thing was that past eleven years her appearance hasn't changed the slightest, not that Ary minded. All she wanted to do was master her abilities and then have fun with it.

 After the long day, Ary needed a good rest, so here she was lying on one of the couches in the common room, thinking about... Quidditch. After her hair, Quidditch was the most important thing to her that she didn't even notice two ginger boys who sat near her. Lost in her thoughts she thought about the time Edward taught her how to ride a broom since in the Beauxbatons they didn't think that it was appropriate for a lady to ride a broom. That was until one of the said boys decided to interrupt her thinking session.
 "So.." he coughed "We may or may not 'ave heard about the rumours about you being a metamorphagus-"
 "And we were wondering if you could do us a favour?" asked the other. It was obvious that the boys were twins.
 "Well, if your so-called favour contains having fun then count me in," stated Ary, her expression not changing even a bit.
 "Depends on what your idea of having fun is," Continued the other.
  "Quidditch," replied Ary, but this time her eyes holding a glint of excitement.
 "Do you play?"
 "Of course I do, quidditch is 'love of my life'" said Ary quoting Queen's 'Love of my life'. 
 "What position?"
 "The best position," started Aurora, upon noticing the boys' confused expression she quickly added "a beater."
 Although she hadn't noticed, the twins' liking for her grew higher. "So, about our favour-"
 "We were thinking if you could morph yourself into Filch and-"
 "Flirt with McGonagall?!" cut off Ary, her mind already planning the perfect prank. The twins seemed to be slightly taken aback by her idea, not that they didn't like it, they thought that it was one of the best prank ideas but, the fact that they have never met a girl willing to prank a professor.
 "I like how you think, blondie"

APRIL 1
Boris looked out the window as he sat in Dominic's chair. April 1… May 15 He thought, 46 days… so far away. 46 days since he could see his king again. I miss him. His mind still remembered how close he was to him a week ago. He touched his cheeks, that grew hot as he remembered their moment the week he left, he wasn't even going to try and deny it. I like him, don't I?
"'See you later' huh?" Boris said, quoting his king's second to last words to him. His mind repeated his king's last words to him, I'll miss you. Boris raised his hand to cover his mouth and hide his smile, "how cruel for you to leave me with such nice words."
Knock Knock Knock
"Super attendant, Boris, mail has come for you," Some knocked on the door.
"Come in," Boris replied, continuing to stare out the window.
"It's from your highness, sir," The man announced.
"The king?" Boris immediately turned around and locked eyes with the delivery man.  Boris sucked in his breath as he recognized the person, "Felix March."
"Nice to meet you again Borie," The man grinned, "I've missed you."

"Borie!" Felix yelled jumping onto Boris' back, "Why didn't you come to visit me yesterday?"
Boris turned back to look at his best friend, "what do you mean? Don't act like you want to hang out with me now."
Felix frowned forcing Boris into a back hug, "aww, don't be like that Borie, you know it isn't like that."
"Then how do you want me to be? Cuz these days it's all about you," Boris growled, "ever since you met that 'guy' you haven't even bothered to start up a conversation with me. Always waiting for me to approach you first, forcing me to come to you first, treating me like an option when you are bored. What am I to you? A toy?"
"Yes," Felix smiled leaning close to Boris' face, "my pet."
Boris was too angry to even blush, "well I'm tired of being a toy for you Felix, find yourself another pet." Boris pushed Felix away.
Felix stared at Boris' back as he walked away.
"Felix!"  Someone called for him behind him. Felix turned to see Max Willer who swung his hand over Felix's shoulder, "what happened now with your little bestie."
"Nothing, he's just being petty, he'll come back to me soon though so don't worry about it."
"Good, now should we go complete our afternoon plans?" Max grinned.
"About that…" Felix sighed shrugging off Max's arm, "I don't know about it."
Max stared at Felix as if he was playing, before swinging his arm back over Felix's shoulder, "come on now, don't be like Boris, I know you aren't a chicken. Besides, it's just a  bit of physical teasing, don't you think?"
Felix locked eyes with Max and sighed, "fine."
"Hehe," Max giggled, "I knew I could trust you."

i began the patrol and after 3 hours there were no signs of luna or prof stine. i checked with everyone once every 30 minutes and so far nothing suspicious. the only annoying part of the earpiece is that everyone is connected so if one says something everyone can hear it.
max got distracted by the robot expo. i got distracted by the arts club but cleo yelled at us and we yelled at her when she started blabbering about the dresses made by the fashion club she saw through the cams.
almost an hour later everything started going downhill.
"guys! the cams are down!" Cleo exclaimed.
"what! how?" max asked confused
"sam, Chris" i yelled. there was no response.
"something has jammed the signal, only the ones with the rings can hear you," Cleo said. good thing we had backup I thought to myself.
"where were they last?" I asked.
"I crossed them near the music exhibit," max said.
"They were heading towards the cooking club before the cams went down," Cleo said.
"Alright, I am close by so I will go after them. max, stay close as a lookout. cleo try to get the cams working and jack, stay as backup." I ordered
"ok" everyone agreed.
when i got to the spot I was immediately able to spot Chris thanks to the hoodie he was wearing according to my instruction.
i was about to go talk to them when I saw a crowd cheering "Chris, Chris, Chris" and sam was getting pushed around in the crowd.
i realized that chris was standing in the archery exhibit. they had placed an apple on the top of his head. before anyone could react the arrow was shot. sam ran but I tackled him to the ground not letting him get in the part of the arrow.
the arrow went right through his head. both the apple and his body hit the ground. there was a still silence which was cut by the sobs from sam.
i let go of sam and he stumbled and ran to his friend. i noticed prof stine leaving as everyone was distracted.
i followed him.
we were on the terrace in a few seconds.
"prof stine," I said facing his back
"Alex" he replied without turning
"I am sorry but aren't you a responsible adult so why did you leave the scene when a fellow student had an "accident"", I said air quoting accident.
"what are you trying to say?"he asked looking like he was so done with everything.
"all cams and earpieces back online" Cleo whispered through the earpiece.
'good' I thought, this meant that everyone could hear our conversation.
"nothing you already don't know" i replied to prof stine.
"let's not beat around the bush" prof stine said facing me.
"let's not", I agreed.
"you were right like always,"he said showing me a genuine smile.
"i am the killer" he says while at the same time i say
"you are not the killer".

Friends were a bizarre, volatile, contradictory, yet sticky phenomenon. They were made, crafted, shaped, molded, created by focused effort and intent. And yet, true friendship, once recognized, in its essence was effortless. I and Sam had been friends for as long as I could remember. He was sticky and whereas I preferred solitude. I was stingy with my words and on the other hand, he talked too much. But if I needed a shoulder to lean on, he would be the first one to offer apart from my family. That was our friendship: equal parts irritation and cooperation.


" Why are you here Sam? I mean in Beijing." I asked him.

" Why I can't be here my dear best friend?"He retorted.

"Last I heard someone was whining not to return here again " I replied. 

"Says the woman who swore to never marry "he fired back.

Ouch! The idiot still knew how to press my sore point.

" You know yèyè wish to see me married and whatever he wishes he gets" I could say no to Bà but I could never refuse my grandfather for anything.

He stared at my face for a long while before saying " you don't have to marry long Jie against your wish. If he wants to see married you can simply marry me and his wish will be fulfilled".

"If you marry me then what about Cao Feng" I questioned him.

"What about him?" He answered my question with another question. A few moments later, he realized what I meant and his eyes widened. 

"You think I'm interested in Cao Feng? Your Assistant and most importantly, A man?"


"Aren't you Sammy boy? " I asked him. Fan Bingbing had liked Sam for years but he never responded to her feelings. She proposed to him many times but was poorly rejected. Heck, he even said that he would rather prefer Cao Feng than her. Since then Bingbing told everyone that he was gay but she still drooled after him. 



"I really want to punch your pretty face now" he warned me." You are not focussing on the subject of the conversation. Zhenyi are you listening to me? Cancel the marriage the damm contract or you can elope with me"

" Damm you, Sam. Can't you see I don't love you romantically and don't wish to marry you either"

" But I love you zhenyi if not romantically but at least as a best friend. I promised godmother that I will always look after you"

 His godmother my mother. Unfortunately, she was dead and their words held no weight.

" I am not a child Sam. I know what's right and what's wrong for me. She is dead sam. She died years ago and stop quoting her everywhere"

He left the room after a while. I knew he was concerned about me but I he couldn't stop me. I checked the time, it was ten-fifteen, and sleep was the last thought on my mind. However, I lay on the bed and slowly I drifted to deep slumber.

A while later, I tried to reignite the conversation.

Actually, I don't have much time to party and, in a word, you can call me a loner if you like," I replied in such a heightened tone that he stared at me with shock. 

"You don't look like a loner to me," he replied, pinning his eyebrow to the top of his forehead. 

"You know I am surprised too…maybe this almost being…you know…maybe this has brought this hidden side of me out in open," I wondered out loud. 

"Maybe you are right. I also feel very different here. My theory is, I am more myself because I have so much time to think and there is no one I have to pretend or show-off to," he ended with a wink.

"You are right. I too feel free here. Although I didn't work to pretend or show-off, I worked because I felt obliged towards work and that I have to do it. But I don't anymore." 

"Such a show-off, huh! Who are you in real life?" I asked shutting myself up. 

"Not someone I am proud of now!" he replied in an honest tone. 

"What? Are you some kind of very Richie-Rich guy who just had everything to show off and did everything just to impress girls?" I said, throwing my arms everywhere just to divert the topic from my monologue. 

"Yeah, something of that sort," he bantered easily, and my heart skipped a beat. 

"Really, so who are you exactly, Mr. Richie Rich?" He hesitated a beat. 

"Heard of D. K. Oberoi?" 

"D. K. Oberoi, of course I know about him, in fact I know everything about him," I spoke with some pride. 

"I am the one who labeled his son as 'the platinum boy'; I was also supposed to do a cover-story on his life this weekend showing his probable plans for business, considering his son may never come back again." 

The look on his face, and my own words, suddenly made me realize my own huge mistake. 

"You know everything about him and you don't know his 'platinum boy' son?" he asked sadly, air quoting 'platinum boy'. 

"Oh, oh I am so sorry, you know I am so crazy here, I didn't even realize what I was saying," and I hugged him instinctively, tears surfacing in my eyes too. I didn't know if hugging him was right or not but it did feel very good and comforting.

Cursing the dark, I decided to step out and find someone who could tell me what was going on. To my utter surprise, I realized I was in a hospital.

“Don’t touch me, you freak. Nothing is happening to me. I am fine, I feel fine, and I am going to my room to rest,” I yelled and I started to reach out for the door-knob but I just couldn’t. 

I tried again, but my hand just passed through it. How? 

“What is happening to me?” I shouted, instantly freaking out. I tried catching it again but I could not touch it. I pushed the door but instead of pushing it, I passed through it and fell on the floor. 

He was immediately beside me, trying to help. 

Scared to death, I pushed him away and started to crawl backwards, hoping to get away from the scary man and also hoping to find something to rest my back on, but instead of finding something, I crossed the bars of a bed and was now almost in a drawer…I stood up shrieking and started to run everywhere in a haphazard manner when suddenly my eyes fell on a still figure on a hospital bed. 

Lying there was a lump of a woman. She was in the worst state possible, bruised everywhere and had a huge bandage on her head. Tubes stuck out from every orifice. She was breathing off a life support system… She was barely alive. She was me.
