A collection of short poetry. Every poem has a different story.

Wang Rich came from a very wealthy family. He liked making friends while posing himself as a culture lover. He also liked to show off some of his ordinary poems. At times, he could come up with a few relatively good ones.
After finding out that Brother Muzhi was also a poetry lover, he couldn't wait to show off a little bit.
"That's a good proposal, Brother Wang!"
"I can't agree any more."
They all nodded.
Lu Changsheng simply glanced at Liu Qingfeng.
In fact, Lu Changsheng didn't really hate these kinds of things. But he just really wanted to avoid triggering another unusual phenomenon.
Fortunately, he had the Pagoda of Heaven and Earth with him, it could suppress most of the unusual phenomena from appearing.
"We can give Brother Muzhi some time first. Why don't we read Brother Wang's poem to start off?"
Zhou Haijie suggested this, he knew that improvisation was always difficult.
Lu Changsheng nodded.
Wang Rich immediately cleared his throat and was ready to recite his poem. "Alright, please forgive my incompetence."
He got up and slowly spoke, "A red boat is touring Jingling!"
"The fish are accompanying the boat!"
"It's just like you and me and him!"
"It's fate that we gather!"
Wang Rich's recital was very affectionate.
The last sentence was especially filled with deep emotions.
"That's nice!"
"Good! What a beautiful poem!"
"Brother Wang, you're so talented! It's so good!"
They were all filled with praise for him.
However, Lu Changsheng didn't know what they were talking about.
How could this thing be called a poem?
And they were even giving this thing such a high evaluation? Are you serious?
He didn't know whether this was because of money or just that they had really bad taste.
This kind of rubbish poetry neither had rhymes nor rhythm, the wording was also extremely poor.
He looked at Liu Qingfeng, the latter was slightly nodding. Although Liu Qingfeng didn't make any comments, it seemed that this poem wasn't too bad in his eyes.
At this moment, Lu Changsheng started to feel desperate.
They were a bunch of illiterates!
"In Brother Wang's poem, every single word is filled with emotion. The first sentence describes the real scene and lays a good foundation for the following line. Fate is the essence of the poem."
Zhou Haijie was indeed such a good flatterer.
Zhang Peng also nodded and said, "The last sentence is an amazing finishing touch. Indeed, it is fate that made us gather here together.
Everyone kept nodding.
"Are you ready, Brother Lu?" Zhou Haijie asked Lu Changsheng curiously.
Lu Changsheng slowly stood up. He was pondering about which one to pick, but now, he felt no pressure at all.
"Black clouds—spilled ink half blotting out the hills;"
"Pale rain—bouncing beads that splatter in the boat."
"Land-rolling wind comes, blasts and scatters them:"
"Below Lake Watch Tower, water like sky."
Lu Changsheng slowly recited the poem.
He was rather calm, this was because the poem was written by one of the most well-known poets, Su Shi.
However, after Lu Changsheng finished the last line.
The audience slightly frowned. 
Zhou Haijie started to comment, "This poem isn't bad. The black clouds are like spilled ink and raindrops are like falling beads. Then the wind sweeps over and scatters all of the clouds. In the last sentence, it means that the rain stopped and the waves calmed down. Upon leaning against the rails of the tall tower, the poet saw that the sky was so crystal clear and the lake was so clean and beautiful.
"However, this poem isn't appropriate for the current occasion."
Zhou Haijie wasn't totally illiterate, he could understand the poem.
However, in his eyes, this poem failed to reflect the current scene.
The rest of them all nodded.
Although this poem was extremely beautiful, they failed to share the mood right now. Therefore, it felt like something was missing.
"Why is that so?" Lu Changsheng put on a gorgeous smile.
Zhou Haijie answered, "It's such a good day today. We see neither black clouds nor rain."
This was extremely obvious.
Lu Changsheng then smiled, he slowly walked to the front end of the boat.
He reached out his hand and said, "Here comes the rain."
With the last word, at this very moment,
Pitter-patter!
Pitter-patter!
Ripples suddenly appeared on the calm surface of the lake.
Very soon after, heavy rain fell. Countless water beads bounced all over the river.
Between the mountains and the hills, mist filled the air.
The black clouds were as dark as ink, but they hadn't covered all the mountains.
In the red boat, they watched this scene in amazement.
This… This was unbelievably remarkable.
They couldn't believe their eyes.
From a distance, at the front end of the boat, Lu Changsheng, while dressed in white, looked exactly like an immortal. He stood with his back towards them, staring at the pouring rain and the mountains embraced by the soft mist.
"I've never seen such a gorgeous man in this world," one of the ladies murmured. Her eyes couldn't move away from Lu Changsheng back.
The males in the boat were suddenly attacked by a sense of inferiority.
While staring at the downpour, Lu Changsheng's heart felt somehow touched.
He saw passersby on the bridge taking out umbrellas, he then heard the corner of his robe whistle.
Standing with his hands behind his back, Lu Changsheng slowly opened his mouth, "My leaflike boat braves the perilous waves. I've slept through Southern rain and smoke. My eyes are filled with green mountains when awake; I come back, shaking water off my green straw cloak.
"Spring rain submerged the bridge and people cannot cross; Out of the green shadow came a small boat.
"In spring, the water is bluer than the sky; In a painted boat listening to the rain they lie.
"Raindrops fell on red flowers; Green smoke entangled fine willow branches."
Lu Changsheng spoke out a poem.
Suddenly, vague pictures appeared in the mist.
In the pictures were boats and figures.
A fisherman fell asleep in his small boat in the waves, and when he woke up, he was already among the endless green mountains. After shaking off the water on his green straw coat, he was ready to go back home.
In spring, the water was even clearer than the sky. A man slowly fell asleep in his boat, listening to the rain. What a beautiful scene that was!
The passersby all saw the pictures in the air. They were utterly amazed.
Lu Changsheng smiled.
This smile could easily make all the struggles one had vanish into the air.
The people in the red boat joined Lu Changsheng to enjoy such a beautiful moment together.
"This is so beautiful, In spring, the water is bluer than the sky. Amazing! Brother Lu, you have immeasurable talent!" 
Li Yue sincerely appreciated the beauty of the lines, and bowed to Lu Changsheng.
"Although there is no willow around, your lines have planted willows in my heart, Brother Lu."  Zhou Haijie sighed emotionally.
They were lost in this beautiful scene and amazing poetry.
At this time, the sky suddenly cleared up.
The lake was clear and the sky was blue.
The rain came and went so quickly.
The beautiful and sunny day had come back.
While enjoying this beautiful scene, Lu Changsheng couldn't help but ask himself, "Changsheng, why are you so handsome?"


Lu Changsheng is depressed.
In this world full of cultivators and immortals, because of his face and irresistible fine bearing as a protagonist, women fall in love with him within three seconds. Unusual heavenly phenomena occur to celebrate his breakthroughs. His literary talent can easily shock all scholars and his random citations are eulogized by the heaven and earth. Legendary beasts offer themselves as mounts, celestial treasures throw themselves into his pockets. 
However, there is one thing he does not understand.
He's the main character, the protagonist, the MC! Why does his cultivation suck?
Also known as "Super Ultra Ordinary and Average Eldest Senior Brother," "Why Am I Still the MC Even When I Suck at Cultivation," "My Good-looking Face But Hopeless Cultivation."

The military strategist who was bad at poetry introduced his student. "Xu Cijiu, my student who excels in the art of war. He is a promising scholar."
Zhang Zhen kept his surprise to himself.
'You're not a poet, why have you volunteered yourself?'
Zhu Tuizi had thought the purple jade belonged to him when a student called out. Warily, he sized up the competition. However, when he saw that it was Xu Xinnian, his confidence rose again.
Zhu Tuizi only spared Xu Xinnian a glance.
They were classmates for years. Although they rarely interacted, they were aware of each other's strengths and weaknesses.
Xu Xinnian was skilled in composing essays that discussed contemporary affairs, he also had a good grasp of military strategies. Poetry was not his strong suit.
The jade accessory was Zhu Tuizi's.
All eyes fell on Xu Xinnian as he basked in the attention. His eyes were far away, staring into the soft glow of the sun.
"Thousand miles of yellow clouds darken the day."
The national chess player, Li Baimu, stroked his white beard. The simple sentence was meant to set the scene but the words resonated in his chest.
"The north wind stirs the geese and snow."
It was almost winter. While snowfall had not begun, it was only a matter of time before the weather changed. There was no hyperbole in that sentence.
The imagery appeared in everyone's mind. The setting sun was blocked by a flurry of snow as the north wind roared—the sky was dotted with flying geese.
The two sentences painted an image befitting a farewell.
Zhang Zhen was surprised. In his many years of observing Xu Xinnian, the student showed little aptitude for poetry. These two seven-character sentences must have taken a lot of effort. If the whole poem was of this quality, Xu Xinnian might outperform Zhu Tuizi.
Among the three established Confucian scholars, Ziyang's Layman was the most skilled in the art of poetry. He ruminated on the words and felt sorrow in his heart.
A thousand miles, the sunset, the north wind, the flying geese, the flurry of snow… The setting was one of loneliness and desolation.
The poem sounded as if he was being banished, not promoted—and yet there was a certain charm in its sorrow.
His past achievements were acknowledged by the courts, therefore he was assigned to Qingzhou. However, would the powers of the Imperial College allow him to grow and prosper in the courts?
Would they stand by and watch as he built a foundation in the courts for the White Deer Academy?
An unknown fate awaited him in Qingzhou—the path ahead was uncertain.
Then, Xu Xinnian spread his arms apart. His handsome face glowed under the warm rays of the sun, unmarred and delicate.
With his arms wide open, he looked at Ziyang's Layman and recited loudly.
"Fear not a journey of loneliness, for you are not a stranger to the realm."
A hush fell over the pavilion and its surroundings.
A chill swept through the audience.
Zhu Tuizi's head turned stiffly to look at the erect Xu Xinnian.
"Fear not a journey of loneliness, for you are not a stranger to the realm."Li Mubai applauded loudly. "Exceptional!"
The first two sentences evoked sadness, then the last two sentences changed the mood and lifted everyone's hearts and spirits.
Zhang Zhen kept his eyes on Xu Xinnian.
Ziyang's Layman was still caught up in the beauty of the poem, his heart was moved.
"A good one, really impressive," he mumbled.
The military strategist saw that his student did not continue his recital and asked, "What about the next half?"
A smirk tugged at Xu Xinnian's lips as he replied, "The poem exists in only half a stanza."
Only half a stanza?
The scholars were wide-eyed at the statement. This man performed a half-written poem?
"No matter, no matter. Half a stanza was sufficiently impressive," Ziyang's Layman said calmly. He wore a cheery smile as he asked, "Xu Cijiu, does this poem have a name?"
"No!"
Xu Xinnian maintained his proud demeanor in hopes to avoid their questions. His reluctance to elaborate would discourage further questions.
The smile on Ziyang's Layman's face widened. "No rush. This poem was meant for my farewell, right?"
Xu Xinnian nodded.
"Why don't I name it for you?"
Li Mubai and Zhang Zhen realized what he was doing and frowned as if they both tasted a lemon slice.
"How about 'Yang Gong's Farewell To Qingzhou At The Sheep's Pavilion'?" The elder looked expectantly at Xu Xinnian.
"Satisfactory!" Xu Xinnian called out. Noticing his lack of respect, he added. "As you please."
The two elders beside Ziyang's Layman made sounds of disapproval.
"Shameless thief."
"Tsk!"
"It is fate." Ziyang's Layman laughed heartily as he bowed at them with his hands folded.
In an era where poetry was a dying art, this poem would be revolutionary. It would be sung by every student and scholar of the realm.
The name of Ziyang's Layman was bound to the poem's title, and thus would be known throughout the lands.
If the poem survived the ages, his name would also be passed down generations and generations.
The quality of the poem made it highly likely to be well-received by all.
The two elders had called him shameless because Xu Xinnian was presenting this poem as a gift to a mentor. Technically, a courtesy name or art name should be used instead of a given name in the poem title. A given name should only be used in poems about one's peers and close friends.
Evidently, the man was too caught up with fame to feel the shame.
What was every scholar's dream? To cultivate oneself and bring peace to the empire? No, that was an ideal.
Throughout the ages, every scholar's biggest dream was to have their name carved into history.
The two elders were incredibly jealous.
As Xu Xinnian's mentor, Zhang Zhen had some doubts about the author of the poem but he stayed silent. He was happy for his student to receive praise from Ziyang's Layman.
As the three elders discussed, Xu Xinnian coughed to get their attention. "Respectfully, I must declare that the poem is not my work."
The discussion stopped.
The three esteemed scholars wore different expressions—surprise, shock and understanding.
Li Mubai was surprised.
Ziyang's Layman had the largest reaction. He took two steps forward and asked, "Who is the author? Is he from our academy? Is he here?"
He looked past Xu Xinnian as he scanned the crowd.
Xu Xinnian lifted his chin and said proudly, "It is my elder brother."
A chatter began among the student body.
"Xu Cijiu's brother?"
"Where does he study? I've never heard of him."
"If I remembered correctly, Xu Cijiu is the eldest of his family."
"Cijiu, what is your brother's name? Who is his mentor? Tell us. A poet of this caliber yet unknown to the academy?"
The students were eager to hear about this mysterious poet.
The three elders watched Xu Xinnian.
'Ah crap, I've been badly influenced by my father's impulsiveness. I shouldn't have revealed the existence of my impulsive brother.' The eagerness in the students' eyes made Xu Xinnian rethink his decision.
To be a scholar was to be the top of society, as shown by the haughty Xu Xinnian.
Those from the White Deer Academy were no exceptions.
If Xu Qian was a scholar, these people would sing praises and laudation. Revealing the poet was a constable would give rise to a negative reaction.
If a lowly constable could write such an exemplary seven-character poem, what of the scholars?
Xu Xinnian pushed through with his explanation. "My brother… He studies the scriptures at home and doesn't attend the White Deer Academy or the Imperial College. He is a simple man who doesn't want fame and prefers to be left alone to his works."
Such dedication was praiseworthy. The White Deer Academy students were pleasantly surprised as a gush of friendship filled their hearts.
Unsurprisingly, the purple jade was presented to Xu Xinnian. Ziyang's Layman bid the crowd farewell. In a burst of inspiration, he left them with a line before he entered the decorated carriage.
"Talents cannot be covered in dust, speak carefully in such times of peace. What do you say?"
The two other elders gave no response. Perhaps they understood but pretended not to. The crowd watched as the carriage ferried Ziyang's Layman away. After some time, Li Mubai tapped Xu Xinnian on the arm. The two men stepped aside to have a private conversation. "Cijiu, I suddenly have the urge to take in a disciple. If you are free today, can you introduce me to your brother?"
Zhang Zhen appeared and quickly said, "Cijiu, wouldn't it be great if you and your brother were under my tutelage?"
It did not matter if the man wrote any more poems. The main goal was not to let the talent be buried.
Perhaps the future had a famous poem titled, 'My Mentor, Zhang Zhen'.
Li Mubai argued, "Military strategy is not the main branch of study. Every scholar has to start with the scriptures, essay composition and self-cultivation."
"Oh? And chess is a main branch? A mentor who can't take a loss and has never won against Wei Yuan?" Zhang Zhen taunted.
"Shut your mouth, you old thief. Don't mention Wei Yuan in my presence. I have always cherished my talents, this student is mine."
"You old fool, you just want him for his poetry skills."
"Shameless! Watch me strike you down with my noble spirit."
"As if I can't do the same."
Xu Xinnian's head was heavy.
The students who stood a distance away were in shock. The two established Confucian scholars were red-faced as they argued—it looked as if a fight was about to break out.


Once a police academy graduate—Xu Qian, woke up and found himself in jail. He was to be banished to the borderlands in three days...
Stuck in this inhumane society, his initial goal was just to be a rich man and pass his days in relative safety.

Many years later, Xu Qian recalled the events of the past. His enemies and friends were dead, there was nothing of them left but bones.
The rolling Yangtze River flows east as the waves wash away the heroes. 
Success or failure, wrong or right; matters little, it might?
The lush mountains remain while the sun sets every night.


Ning Qing was momentarily dumbfounded when she read the inelegant poem. She then read through the poem again repeatedly.
She paid the most attention to the last line. The words were very faint at first, but the color of the words grew deeper as time passed.
"Mistress, I'll go and send him away. Do you have any words that you want to relay?" Ning Que asked.
Ning Qing had never been friendly to people of noble status. However, she always looked sweet and friendly toward the commoners.
She would always give her comments whenever a student handed her their poem, no matter how badly it had been written.
"Mistress?" Ning Que reminded her once again.
Ning Qing said, "Go and get him to come in."
Ning Que could not help but be alarmed. Why… Why would she want to do that?
Ning Que had never met anyone in the past, no matter how influential they were. She even declined to meet the person who sent over Mister Taia's treasured calligraphy just now.
Now she wanted to meet a beggar?
Could that beggar have written a poem that would shock the world?
Should she do this even if that was the case?
This was a unique time. The mistress should not be receiving the beggar no matter how good the poem he wrote was.
She had to avoid doing things that would arouse suspicion.
"Mistress, are you sure?" Ning Que asked.
"I'm sure. Let him come in," Ning Qing replied.
"Alright!" Ning Que said.

At that moment, at the peak of a mountain not far away, a group of people was waiting for a result.
They were waiting for the beggar, Yun AoTian, to be immediately thrown out from the castle.
An aide from the Valley of Torn Gust said, "All of you, get ready. Do not let the beggar, Yun AoTian, return to the peak of the mountain when he gets thrown out. Do not let him meet the lord again. Execute him immediately. A person like this will definitely become a disaster for the Valley of Torn Gust. For the foundation of our lord, we have to kill this lunatic for the Jing Clan."
"But what about the situation on the side of the lord?" a warrior asked uneasily.
The aide replied, "Whatever we are doing now is for the ambition of our lord. The lord would never forgive Yun AoTian if he were to fail now and incite the wrath of Lady Ning Qing. It would instead sully the virtuous name of our master if we weren't the ones to kill him."
The warrior was shocked momentarily. Their lord was as beautiful as a fairy, but he did not have a virtuous reputation. He was notorious for killing others.
"Do you understand?" the aide said.
"Yes!" The warrior said, "As long as Yun AoTian fails to ascend the mountain, we'll immediately kill that wicked man for the lord."
The aide said, "Send someone to have a look. Has he been kicked out? Did he infuriate an investigation team? Do not let him escape. He might not rush back here."
"Yes!" The warrior descended the mountain to observe the situation.
He sprinted back a moment later and said in shock, "Mister, mister, our brothers who were monitoring the situation under the mountain saw this. The beggar, Yun AoTian, has entered the castle. Lady Ning Qing has received him."
"Impossible…" the aide said in a raspy voice.
"Impossible!" The Blue Immortal and Chu Zhaoran involuntarily exchanged shocked gazes.
How was that possible?
Ning Qing had refused everyone else. She would not open her door even for the treasured calligraphy of Mister Taia.
Yet Yun Zhonghe was received even though he had entered the castle with nothing in hand?
Why, why had this happened?
What exactly happened? Had the sun risen in the west?

A moment later!
Yun Zhonghe appeared in the study of the widow, Ning Qing. He did not see Ning Qing, the woman who held the most authority and was hailed as the Legendary Talented Lady, through the screen.
However, he detected the unique stench of blood when he entered the room. He was now even more clear of her judgment.
"I pay my respects to Lady Ning." Yun Zhonghe bowed and paid his respects. He then said, "Lady Ning must be very curious as to why I know all of this. It is actually very simple—"
However, Yun Zhonghe had not finished his sentence when he was immediately stopped by Ning Qing. This woman was also very forceful.
"What's your name?" the widow, Ning Qing, asked.
Her voice was melodious. There was determination mixed in with the softness.
Yun Zhonghe replied in shock, "My name is Yun AoTian."
Ning Qing said, "What's your identity?"
Yun Zhonghe replied, "Valley of Torn Gust, an officer of the Embroidered Uniform Guards, third official registrar."
Ning Qing continued, "What's your background?"
Yun Zhonghe answered, "Beggar. I was born a hooligan."
Ning Qing asked, "Have you received an education?"
Yun Zhonghe replied, "I studied for a few months when I was five. I dropped out during my first year of kindergarten."
"Then how did you enter the third official registrar of the Embroidered Uniform Guards at the Valley of Torn Gust? Has Jing Zhongyue taken a liking to you?" Ning Qing asked.
Yun Zhonghe replied, "That's because I have a special talent. I achieve results every time."
"What talent?" Ning Qing asked.
"Coaxing and lying to girls, cheating them out of their fortunes and bodies. Guaranteed results," Yun Zhonghe answered.
Ning Que, who was by the side, swallowed when she heard those words. She wanted to vomit.
A ploy of seduction?
Jing Zhongyue had sent such an old, ugly beggar to seduce the mistress?
How long had it been since he last washed his hair? Even the fleas were about to jump out, weren't they?
How unique of a taste did she imagine the mistress to have?
However, Ning Qing was not angered. Instead, she said, "Do you know what happened to the handsome, talented man Jing Zhongyue sent the other time?"
Yun Zhonghe said, "I do. He became a eunuch."
Ning Qing said, "Then does she feel that I would not bear to take action if she sends an old beggar this time? Furthermore, you might not be that old. You speak so bluntly. Are you not afraid that I would turn you into a eunuch?"
Yun Zhonghe said, "My parents have told me since I was young that I should be honest and that I must not lie."
Ning Qing said, "What are your parents working as? Are they also beggars?"
Yun Zhonghe replied, "I lost my parents at a young age."
The joke was lame to the point that Ning Qing could not help but shrug.
"At this point, should I laugh a little to complement your joke?" Ning Qing asked.
Yun Zhonghe said, "It'd be best if you could."
Ning Qing opened her petite mouth and let out two very official-sounding laughs.
"Yun AoTian, do you know why I received you?" Ning Qing asked, "Other than the fact that you said that I have been poisoned by someone."
Yun Zhonghe said, "You must feel indignant."
"That's right, indignant. It might even be fury," Ning Qing said. "I've seen many students, as well as many people, who never received much of an education. Over the years, there have been at least a thousand people who have submitted their poems to me. Honestly, many people wrote poems that were worse than yours, but every one of them had presented their best works. Some of these poems were extremely bad, some coquettish, others incredibly hypocritical. However, at the very least, they made use of all of their talent. No matter how pretentious their poems were, I could see their respect and passion for poetry. However, I could not see any respect in your poem. You are mocking literature. You are taking the poetic verses lightly. That made me very angry."
"I can apologize. I was wrong. I was truly wrong." Yun Zhonghe apologized immediately.

The mature yet beautiful lady in front of him was very interesting. She was still extremely calm, even when she said that she was very angry.

The widow, Ning Qing, continued, saying, "That will prove that you are a one-in-a-million Poetry Genius. It will prove that you have the right to mock poetry and literature. That way, I will be able to forgive you, and we can continue. Otherwise, I am going to neuter you.

He then recited a poem with the required word at the start of every sentence. The poem read:
"There are goodbyes as the blossoms move west. There is sorrow as the snow travels up north.
I will always be a man of the mountains. Unable to obtain a comforting hug from my descendants."[1]
