Just as there is 'Soft Magic' in Fantasy that is portrayed through magibabble, there can be 'Soft Science' in a Sci-Fi stories through technobabble that makes 'some sense', but not entirely correct.

We are frickin' writers, not scientists. You don't have to be anatomically correct all the time, all you need to do is show that you know enough of your stuff to write a decent story. In fact, the excuse of it being an alternate world can be used if you're going to bend the limits of physics and say that fire doesn't need air to exist in this parallel dimension.

I see a lot of writers being put into a state of confusion due to not understanding the line between fantasy and Sci-Fi. They seem like they are trying to fit the Star Trek mould too often.

Science can just as well do the same things as plot devices in fantasy stories. Once you add 'realism' to a fantasy, it becomes progressively better sometimes compared to a completely fantasied story where 'logic' doesn't hold within it.

Those who write Sci-Fi usually envision a future they can imagine where magic-like Rocket Boots and other stuff exist. However, a writer must not get bogged down by small details and MUST think of an overarching story where these details matter.

It is the same with Fantasy. Even if you write about someone breaking the mould as a wizard or something, you have to attach your world to a narrative rather than doing it the other way 'round.

No one wants to hear about how awesome your boat propellers are before hearing your story's narrative. They would rather you cut down and make it relevant when it is actually relevant.

Adding some 'Hard Science' to your story is only when the scenes later on have any use for them. It bores a person to death no matter how extensive your technobabble is unless you make it interesting. Try using facts as plot elements.

For example: Even the simple fact that people cannot breath in space and instantly die when they come in contact with the 'void' of space could be used to add a layer of tension when a spaceship is damaged. Similar to how dangerous 'hard magic' is used in Epic Fantasy like Frodo's Ring in The Lord of the Rings has definitive corruption on others.

Unlike Fantasy that can use the Power of Friendship to bend logic, the readers of Sci-Fi never be expecting any 'realistic' plot elements to be bend just because the Author wants a happy ending. There are no 'Healing Potions' in real life that can be used to fix up injuries nor are people affected by prophesies or whatever.

This is the contrast between Sci-Fi and Fantasy that you can make full use of. As most authors go onto the Sci-Fi side of writing not because they strive to be scientists but since the aesthetics of a science fiction world are just so interesting.

Science Fiction is a good place to tackle heavy topics like the nature of life and the absurdity of those who see 'science' as everything. Those who disregard emotions and become cybernetic entities for the sake of casting off their mortality are portrayed as the bad guys while our totally human protagonist fighting them is a 'good guy'.

The lines between an Artificial Intelligence and regular Humans blurs as we become the 'God' of technological species that defy our definition of what is 'living'. Just as we see God as some sort of fourth-dimensional and incomprehensible being that created us as an imperfect image of 'Him', the robots given sentience would see us similarly.

Some robots might have emotions that can allow them to defy their programming, some robots won't go as far as gaining emotional functionality but will preform their roles better than even a human. It could show the reason why people get attached to the inanimate and soulless objects we put our own hearts into creating (like Big Hero 6).

But though exploring philosophical questions is good and all, never forget that a good 'plot' is needed to put forward and give clues into the writer's answer that context. Sci-Fi is, after all, a premise, not a relatable character in of itself.

Think of the science-fiction elements as just the background for your story, similar to how other genres should be that as well. You won't have to deal writing blocks if you keep to writing only what you know rather than just speculative theories.

Whether it's as dark as a Cyber Punk or optimistic of the future, just know what mould you are using for this premise. Are you writing an Adventure story with Sci-Fi as the places, destinations, and whatever tools the MC can get him hands on, or are you writing a comedy where the Sci-Fi elements don't need consistency but absurdity?

After moving past why you shouldn't add unneeded technobabble unless it's interesting to listen to or has plot significance, let me remind you all that robots and 'science' isn't entirely separated from the realm of magic. After all, there is a reason you don't see skimpy power suits being worn by astronauts these days. Just be sure to have a focus if your going to add very illogical things to the plot.

I like Gundam as much as the next guy but the whole reason the Mecha sub-genre of Anime has waned in recent years is because writers have been focusing too much on 'science' rather than the spectacle. I don't need to now what materials your Mecha is made of unless you point its weak points and make it relevant in a fight scene.

Bring up the strengths and weaknesses of something and THEN use those facts as devices that can move the plot. Conversely, if you go overboard with this advice and tell me nothing but how your giant robot looks and the 'science' behind its creation, even going as far as to tell me how many secret guns it has, then I'll be bored...

I'd love to see Cyborgs Vs Mecha but just don't forget the human element of Sci-Fi. How we create things not solely for the sake of creation but put are feelings into it just like the novels we write.

Humans are passionate that way...

This is a story I worked on ages ago that has been refined and edited by adding foreshadowing to events while also simplifying the power system better than before. This story can be considered a prequel to An Adventure Beyond Greatness as it takes place years prior to the events of that story.

Short Synopsis:
After retiring from the battlefield, my life became empty and lifeless. The regrets of my past haunt me in my sleep. Then a change occurred, a King from another world summoned me to fight for his kingdom, but I died even before I could give him my answer. Now, after a fake God allowed me to reincarnate (albeit imperfectly) with my memories intact, into a world filled with magic and swords.

Long Synopsis:
This is about a flawed protagonist who only knew to rely on others and not socialise who gets a second chance to change himself in order to live the life he aimed for in his past life. The narrator isn’t exactly trustworthy since it is purely in his bias perspective while other perspectives given by others fill in the blanks that he either leaves out or twists to suit the situation.

The story itself can be considered a parody of Isekai’s classic tropes which are given a sense of reality as time goes by. As there exists no ‘Demon Lord’, there is also no black and white, only characters opinions and counter-opinions throughout the story.

So, a little rant here. Why the hell haven't I seen a single Toriko fan-fiction on this site? That series is loaded with cooking, eating, and fighting, what more could you want? Literally has one more core component than Dragonball, and nobody is talking about it. As you could of guessed from the title, this would be either a literal transferal of Yukihira Soma/Joichiro into Toriko, or someone taking their knowledge of cooking into Toriko.

Maybe the people here aren't confident they can come up with wacky ingredients like the show. But, you can just use the main story as a source by changing out Komatsu for the new MC. Or you could be original and try and make a branching story for the protagonist. I suppose either way you'd get a fan-fiction.

Now, what about plot? Well, obviously, if you are taking the replacement for Komatsu route, you'd mainly follow the same story arc. Now, as for the original plot, maybe make it where he is both the Chef and the Gourmet Hunter. I'm not writing an entire plot line for a story I'm not making. And yes, I'm aware it's another short chapter, I just haven't had an idea with the same passion as Dante in DxD or Persona User in Jojo.

So, I have these ideas float around my head constantly. I figured since I'm not using them, someone else could. If you read them and feel like writing about it, feel free. I'd rather focus on my own novel, so they are fair game for anybody. I'd love to read them if they are ever used.

I looked outside my bedroom window looking at night sky and trying to justify I deserve a second chance in life and all I did before was better for everyone including me. But that's sound like a complete bullshit.

I tried scratching my head where my bandage was irritating me. 'Fuck this stupid head thing.' I screamed internally.
I fall back on my bed and said out loud 'I deserve a second chance in life, I deserve a second chance in life, I deserve a second chance in life. But do I deserve to be Lily Evans?'
I looked at my 5-year-old hands and tried again to reason I have earned merit, in my life to be given a second chance and to be give a boon of magic also.
'Am I really going to live in this magic world?' I felt shiver run down my spine.
'Harry Potter world Hummm, I have read countless fan-fiction.' But in fan-fiction there was a distinct type of MC being all good or all evil? You can tell that by reading about them from the start. How they go about approaching people and how they all have the halo of all going according to the plan. Rarely they have any issue with plot holes, like how can a baby defeat the power dark lord or how Defence Against The Dark Arts potion is Curse and no one was able to break it. There are multiple plot issue that was never talked by Rowling and it was taken up by fan-fiction society to manipulate as they want.
'Wait am a Main Character?' I sat up again with frown on my face. In the last 50+ year life I have all way like as I wanted and worked hard to get what I wanted. Money, Fame, lovers..husbands.
Should I just live it like that, or should I be like Lily even is going to be (according to the books or fan fiction). Goodie two shoes, know it all, good at charms, wife of Potter and mother to Harry Potter? Was there more to Lily Potter I mean Evens than that?
'OK stop this and start thinking as you. What would you do'?
IF I was Lily Evans then first, I need to remove the status of muggle born from me. This is trick and will make smarts and money but this NEED to be done. Second, I must decide should I connect with Severus Snape or not? I need to stay neutral in this war. 
'Should I leave British Isles?' No, I need to qualify as full grow witch and then I can do what I want.
Potter and Black, I know lot about them due to books and fan-fiction, what is true and what real that is what I need to figure out.
With all these thought I went to sleep having a weird nightmare of running while getting chased by dogs with knife in their mouths and running with ravens by my side.

Next morning my mother or Lily mother came in and start fussing over me. I just rolled my eyes and did what she told while thinking about my home situation. Helen and harry Evans are good and normal (eye roll and yes, I said that about Lily's) parents. Her sister on the other had is a stuck-up, stupid girl who things she is the best and deserve the best, Petunia Evans.
Normal, easy and muggle life. This is what Lily's I mean my life is.
I don't think Lily has met Severus Snape as they just moved into this house 2 days ago and Lily in all her hyper running got hit in her head by the door and fainted.
All TADA I appear in her body all 53 year back on time. Fuck.
'OK, calm down' I murmured starting hard at my breakfast.
'ahem ahem' I turn my head to petunia who was smirking at me. Bitch.
I stared at her and said 'what'? She smiled and said 'breakfast is getting cold and you should finish it quickly'.
I turned back to my breakfast and stared at it again and slow started eating.
Harry Evans ( I need to start calling his dad, I through) and started talking to Helan and Petunia about the upcoming school semester and how we are all going have good Christmas in this big home.

Wait do I even have magic. I screamed initially and standing up straight. All Evans started at me and I just stood there thinking hard. This body has no collection of magic or anything she has ever done.
 
Am I a witch or not?

I got reincarnated as Lily Evans. Is this my second chance? Am I an MC now? Let's find out.

If you didn't know, this fan fiction was made for the MLBB x Web Novel event and it, somehow, won 3rd place with my mediocre writing skills and with only 6 chapters uploaded. My school started while the contest was still ongoing thus I didn't have enough time to continue writing. My spare time was spent on my other hobbies. For these reasons, I only managed to produce 6 chapters. 

This was the first time I wrote a story, a fan fiction, a novel or whatever you'd like to call it. I was honestly surprised that it won. "Why would people like my story? This is the first time I wrote something like this, and people actually liked it?" I thought to myself. It sparked my interest for writing and I've been planning to continue working on this novel since then. But I never did because I got discouraged by my lack of 'writing skills' and writer's block, and the fact that this is just a fan fiction. 

But ultimately, after 6 whole months, I decided to take action. I wanted to write a novel, similar to the ones I've been reading for the past year. A part of me said, "But I have no writing experience. Even if you write, it won't be that good." A different part of me replied, "Well, maybe you could work on Master of Magic. You won't mind if it's bad, after all you said it's just a fan fic."

I've been working on this fan fiction for the past few weeks. Building the world, the characters, the plot, the magic system and all that stuff. Wth the upcoming Christmas break, I'll have enough time to write chapters for this fan fiction. The story will be different, and I'll start releasing them on 2020. And that's about it for the update, really. 

"Bu-but, why did you make this announcement? No one really cares."

Even if I wasn't writing, I've been using this application to read different novels and I constantly receive notifications about new collections (the count for people who saved this story in their library). And there are a lot of people who has this story saved in their collections. I'm a little bit skeptic and curious about it, so I just wanted to know if people actually saved this story in their collection. Maybe leave a comment to let me know? Heh.
