If you didn't know, this fan fiction was made for the MLBB x Web Novel event and it, somehow, won 3rd place with my mediocre writing skills and with only 6 chapters uploaded. My school started while the contest was still ongoing thus I didn't have enough time to continue writing. My spare time was spent on my other hobbies. For these reasons, I only managed to produce 6 chapters. 

This was the first time I wrote a story, a fan fiction, a novel or whatever you'd like to call it. I was honestly surprised that it won. "Why would people like my story? This is the first time I wrote something like this, and people actually liked it?" I thought to myself. It sparked my interest for writing and I've been planning to continue working on this novel since then. But I never did because I got discouraged by my lack of 'writing skills' and writer's block, and the fact that this is just a fan fiction. 

But ultimately, after 6 whole months, I decided to take action. I wanted to write a novel, similar to the ones I've been reading for the past year. A part of me said, "But I have no writing experience. Even if you write, it won't be that good." A different part of me replied, "Well, maybe you could work on Master of Magic. You won't mind if it's bad, after all you said it's just a fan fic."

I've been working on this fan fiction for the past few weeks. Building the world, the characters, the plot, the magic system and all that stuff. Wth the upcoming Christmas break, I'll have enough time to write chapters for this fan fiction. The story will be different, and I'll start releasing them on 2020. And that's about it for the update, really.

Even if I wasn't writing, I've been using this application to read different novels and I constantly receive notifications about new collections (the count for people who saved this story in their library). And there are a lot of people who has this story saved in their collections. I'm a little bit skeptic and curious about it, so I just wanted to know if people actually saved this story in their collection. Maybe leave a comment to let me know? Heh.

STILL A YEAR AGO BEFORE APOCALYPSE

Eden is still writing urgently and frantic on her journal inside her apartment.

Sometimes she looked around from her door to the windows as if expecting something to break in and attack her.

When there's nothing that she seemed to have heard or sense, she went back to writing, her dominant hand moving fast as if she's in a hurry to get this over with.

Also, it's almost as if she's writing a fictional story in her journal but in a grim truth, the story-like entry she's writing in is not fictional at all.

And sometimes Eden hoped that it was and it was just some horrifying nightmare she had dreamed in her sleep.

But she couldn't deny the reality when she had seen it and witnessed it firsthand, even though somehow she managed to make it through and escape alive.

She kept on writing vigorously with gaze focused but her mind drifted as if immersed in the dark memories she had experienced and had gone through before in those sudden horrifying days.

JOURNAL ENTRY: 7TH DAY, 1ST MONTH JANUARY, YEAR 2XXX

It was so surreal.

I had hoped at first that it was just coincidence or something.

But I couldn't even deny the obvious signs even if they were right in front of me in large prints.

I'm sure you're wondering what it is that got me so panicked and frantic about like some madwoman who had just gone nuclear-like crazy frenzy.

I'm going to just write it all down here in my journal personally so that anyone who might find and read this will understand.

It's also in case I might not make it out alive if ever that might be the case for me when that happens.

Anyway, I'm rambling on.

This is how it happened, when and where it started, and how I've been there and seen it all through until I managed to come back and return home into my apartment.

It was just my first day at work, during the day as a part-time office assistant in a small firm situated in a very high-rise building in the city.

It was fortunate for me that I'm a quick learner and I managed to do a good job working at the first day, milling around in the office and following my orders given to me by my supervisor and superior, almost feeling like a robot designed to serve its master to the fullest.

This would be offensive to some people at first but you have to admit it's funny because for me I've always been some kind of docile type and knew better to listen and respect my superiors even if they're mean to me and just follow and do what they say.

I didn't mind this at all because all I want is just be at the sidelines quietly and give no complaint whatsoever over any nonsense even if it's for yourself.

This job pays well and of course, I need the money despite that I do have money saved for myself.

You never know that in the future your money would run out so quickly and your normal life will instantly become a difficult one.

Anyway, moving on, this is when I noticed during lunch break the first signs that something's wrong.

I didn't bring a packed lunch with me and the canteen food is worse when I saw it so I didn't buy them.  I was standing by in a room where they served coffee and took one, and as I drank half-way from my cup, I saw it.

One office employee was coughing hard in his work station and he seemed to be looking worse.  His face was looking dark red and seemed to swell and he also looked to have trouble breathing.

I remember that when I just entered the building, I had met that same employee and he was normal and healthy-looking before and didn't have the slightest symptom that he was going to be sick.

Well, right now he is, and it's strange and weird to me that the guy was sick so fast that I thought he had contracted the hidden plague or something.

I didn't know that my outrageous thoughts were true in the future.

And then the sick employee suddenly lurched forward as if he's going to vomit but instead he just collapsed in a heap on the floor, startling his other workmates and the others reacted to check on him.

I didn't go to see if he's alright because a large crowd was instantly forming around him and it wasn't long before someone finally called for help and then two medics swiftly came into the building at the workspace and taking the fallen sick employee away.

I was a little surprised at seeing the medics already there even when I noticed that one of the people in the crowd was about to call for an ambulance through his cell phone but there was already medical personnel assigned in the building and they seemed to be prepared for this.

It strangely got to me and also had a bad feeling that something is up.

But I didn't think much of it when my lunch break was over and I went back to work.

I finished for the day at my part-time job and almost had forgotten what I've seen before at the office when I was rushing to my next part-time job for the night shift which is as a cashier at a small grocery store.

I quickly catch a bus heading to the next job location I'm going and when I reached my destination, I went straight to the back of the grocery store and dressed up in my other work clothes from office shirt, skirts and heels to cashier employee shirt, pants and shoes.

I wasn't late nor was I early but I came right on time to meet my night-job superior at my night part-time job and learn what I need to do and start working for the night.

Even though I knew I would come home late and would get a few hours of sleep and work the same as always with these two part-time jobs from now on and beyond, I didn't mind at all as long as I can do it and keep on living normally.

It was also fortunate for me that I have weekends as the off days of my part-time jobs.

However, I didn't know that everything was going to change when the time passed by and days go by until the 7th day that I finally realized that everything is falling into chaos and the whole world is already falling into the depths of Hell itself in a literal sort of way.

Within those 7 days, as I worked and went home back and forth as usual and normal, I noticed signs, symptoms, and also sightings that I wish I could shake it off as mere coincidence or just imaginations that were made-up in my head from being almost overworked.

During the day time, more office employees had gotten sick suddenly and the workspace I was assigned on was about to become so empty it's like it's the holidays or there's a job strike going on.

I was getting unnerved about this but I kept on working as normal and usual as always.

Then there were more that started to happen during the nights.

I had noticed unusual symptoms from the buyers in the grocery store I'm working at during night-shifts.  Some seemed to be idling about between aisles absently as if they're drugged or in a depressed haze.  While some seemed to be staring intently at the frozen meat in the freezers or some staring at other people that were near them or walked by them with hungry expressions in their faces as if they haven't eaten at all.

I was glad that those people who were staring at others didn't happen with me because when I saw and noticed them approaching the cashier counter, I manage to quickly switch with another night-shift employee I had made friends with to take over as cashier and move away from their sights.

I knew it was a silly excuse to do that with one of the first friends I had made here in the city.  But I was getting a little freaked out with everything that's been happening that I started feeling paranoid and selfish for myself and my life.

The only time I felt safe is when I come straight home back to my apartment.

When the weekends finally came, I was relieved but then it still went wrong and I've seen and experienced it, increasing my paranoia and fear of something unknown about to come which I didn't know that it already has.

On the 6th day, I was sitting outside next to a coffee shop, drinking a cold creamy latte frappuccino to refresh myself and relax when a car accident occurred suddenly right in the street near the place where I'm at.

Two cars, one Hyundai and an SUV crashed against each other head-side on, either one of them had run through a red traffic light or not.

People reacted at the chaos and some had gone to the scene to try to check on and help with the injured drivers in the two vehicles.

Someone had called for an ambulance and as a crowd almost formed so many around the two crashed vehicles, it arrived an hour later fast as it was called and three paramedics came rushing to the scene to help and rescue the victims of the accident.

I stayed put to where I am by the coffee shop and I almost strained my eyesight to watch from far away to see what it's happening.

That's when I noticed something very strange and so creepy that I thought the hot sun up high is getting to me and I'm having heat hallucinations.

When two of the paramedics had placed one of the two driver victims into a stretcher and one of them declared soundlessly that this one's dead, I thought I saw its corpse twitching in the stretcher as if it's on a seizure. I also noticed that the two paramedics had strapped the seemingly twitching body tight and secure so that people and witnesses close by would have thought that the body would fall off inside the ambulance and nothing else.

But I somehow knew better when I saw the twitching and I also had thought that I saw the other victim who looked to be dead as well in the other crashed vehicle, its bashed head moved and seemed to lurch sideways as if trying to lunge at the paramedic that was going to remove him from the driver's seat.

I frowned at this and then felt like leaving already as if I didn't want to see what will happen next.

I abandoned my half-finished frappuccino and left the place as fast as I can in another direction.  I was having such deep bad feelings that were churning inside my gut that I felt like wanting to go back home in my apartment and stay there up to the next day.

I didn't think of writing this down the day before today because when I went home and then felt like sleeping it off which I did, it went out of my mind as if it's a normal occurrence that is usual in the city and I had shrugged it off as my imagined paranoia or fear.

But then I was wrong when on that exact 7th day, in the late time of night.  I had my sights on the first thing that got me crashing into a horrifying reality that everything had already gone to pieces in a very worst way.

It was on the 7th day that I stayed at home during daytime feeling out of sorts and trying to calm myself and think clearly on what had just happened the day before when around five in the afternoon I had a call from my cell phone.

I answered it and heard that it's one of my friends who worked with me at the night-shifts in the grocery store.

I heard her begging me to take over her night-shift at the store because one of her family members was at the hospital and she was worried and wanted to go there but couldn't because she needs the job too.

I wanted to refuse at first because of what I've seen before and the wild chaotic thoughts still running in my head but I felt pity for my friend and accepted and then I went and prepared myself to take over my friend's shift and work at night again, even if it's supposed to be my first weekend off.

But I didn't mind and I felt like owing my friend a favor for helping me switch when I had first encountered the strange people who were staring at others before.

I went to the grocery store at a fast pace like I wanted to get this over with and return home as soon as possible and my friend who called me had thanked me so much that she gave me almost so many tight hugs before she left in a hurry to go to the hospital and check on her family.

I sighed as I watched her leave then entered through the back and readied myself to work my night-shift as cashier as usual and I greeted the other employee working for the night, a young man in his late teens and almost an adult that is mopping and cleaning the floors between aisles.

I saw that there weren't many customers and only about two that looked to be searching around for their groceries and I sighed as I went behind the counter and waited for the customers to come and pay their purchases.

It was a few hours later that something unexpected suddenly happened.

I heard a loud slamming noise and bumping thuds and I turned my head almost in an instant turn that I could've broken it and I saw what looked to be a homeless man banging his head against the entrance doors of the store.

I was startled and stunned at this and I just stood there behind the counter confused and silent and the young employee who was mopping the floors stopped and went to look and check on the head-banger to see if he's okay.

But just as he had opened the door, the head-banging homeless man lunged at him and attacked him so suddenly that the two customers that were still inside the store and I just watched stunned shock and horror, we didn't have time to react on what we're just seeing right before our very eyes.

The homeless man opened his mouth wide as he could and chomp his dirty teeth into the young man's throat and started tearing it apart and EATING him.

The two customers that were still there reacted first with screams and yells, and one of them which is a burly man went to help the dying employee and try to pry the cannibal man off.

But it soon became a grave mistake when more of the carnivorous cannibals like the homeless man came bursting inside through the entrance, which is two more of them and one of them instantly lunged and chomped on the burly man at his arm while the other one goes for the second customer which is a feeble elderly woman who had tried to run and flee.

It took a split-second for me to finally react and between fight-and-flight, I choose flight.

I ran as swift as a startled fawn and went to the back of the store where the employees' room is and I hurriedly shut the door behind me and locked it, ignoring the screams and yells from outside and the munching hungry sounds from the monsters.

Then I felt myself collapse down in the ground, my back against the locked door, my bottom sitting on the floor, my legs curled up with knees near my face, and my hands over my mouth to cover and silence the cries and sobs that are emerging from my lips.

I kept on ignoring the terrible and sickening sounds I'm hearing from outside the door and soundlessly prayed myself to God for forgiveness and salvation.

Eden stopped writing and looked like she finally wanted to vomit upon remembering that horrible and terrifying sights she had seen and the incident she went through before, which she did in a sudden dash to her bathroom and you can hear her retching and puking into the toilet, throwing whatever's in her stomach out.

Then there was a sound of the toilet flushing and Eden came out, looked to be staggering weakly and tired as she slowly went back to her desk to keep on writing on her journal.

She had to let everything out and try to erase it from her mind and have it etched and written onto her journal so that she might be able to sleep peacefully.

So she kept on writing what she had experienced and seen, all the signs, symptoms, and sights of the beginning and rise of the zombie apocalypse.

Hi! For my QI readers, I realised that you didn't get to read how I started writing Spirit Immortal. So below is a short description of myself!


Background about myself and inspirations for writing Spirit Immortal
Currently, I am a university undergraduate, and I have been reading fiction for years. I first got into reading fiction because of anime. Initially, I was a pure anime/manga fan. But I then found out about the existence of light novels. Light novels were far ahead from the existing anime, so I started to binge read translated volumes on Baka-Tsuki. It became somewhat of a drug to me. I kept reading and eventually, fictions had become part of my daily life. However, everything changed when the Yen Press attacked… Suddenly, many of my favourite novels disappeared, and less and less light novel translations surfaced. 

Finding myself in a severe deficit of fictions to read, I found something called Novelupdates. Every few minutes, there was a new novel chapter being released. I was overjoyed. Finally, I was able to satisfy my daily fiction needs. That was how I got into wuxia/xianxia novels. Being ethnically Chinese and fluent in both English and Chinese, there was a great allure for me in these stories. When I was younger, I would frequently watch The Legend of the Condor Heroes and many what we call "wuxia xiaoshuo." So seeing that the traditional stories blend with modern themes was somewhat shocking to me. To think that such a part of the internet existed!

So I started reading a lot of wuxia/xianxia stories. I remember the early days of Coiling Dragon and Stellar Transformations. The friendly competition between Gravitytales and Wuxiaworld. But one day, I encountered Doulou Dalu. For those who have not noticed, Spirit Immortal's cultivation system is inspired by this very novel. The reason being, it was the only cultivation system that I could actually follow. It's a very simplistic system, rank 1-100. The other Wuxia novels cultivation systems confused the heck out of me. However, worry not, Spirit Immortal is not a fanfiction of Doulou Dalu. In fact, other than the cultivation levels, they are nothing alike.

For a while, Doulou Dalu was my favourite novel. To a certain extent, it still is my favourite translated wuxia/xianxia novel. But I started feeling bored. Every single book that I read followed the same format. And after many disappointing stories, I thought to myself… Hey, I could just write something I like!

Thus, the idea of Spirit Immortal started germinating in my mind. It took me over five months to finish plotting the major arcs, characters and finally the ending before I started typing my first word. Majority of the reason why it took so long for me to start writing this story is because of my procrastination and school. Additionally, I didn't know if the story was going to be well received. But eventually, I steeled my mind and said: "Whatever, as long as I am satisfied with the story, who cares?"

So yeah, currently the number one fan of Spirit Immortal is myself, and I can't wait to put the entire story I have in my head into words for all of you to read. It will take time though, so do stick around!


Issues I have had when writing Book Two
I have realised that many of you were unsatisfied with the pace of the story, saying that it is too slow and whatnot. And guess what, I agree! I have been putting the character and world development at the forefront of my story thus slowing down the story progression, However, fret not, now that the first two books are completed, the story progression would begin to expedite as I believe that I have sufficiently developed my characters!

I'm trying to be more descriptive in my writing but that is still a work in progress. Perhaps it would be the greatest hurdle for me but rest assured, I will try my best!

Another major issue I had was time management. I started writing Spirit Immortal during my semester break where I had plenty of time. I even managed to complete Book 1 during that break itself! However, once school started, I had to figure out a way to balance work, personal life and writing Spirit Immortal. There were some days where I only had three hours to efficiently write, proofread and edit my chapter before I deemed it ready to be published. Hence, there might be times where my writing quality dropped slightly but I'm trying my best to ensure that I retain and even improve on my writing quality, so please be patient with me on that one.


Future of Spirit Immortal
Once my semester break hits once more, I will be sitting myself down in order to write as many chapters as I can. Perhaps, eventually, I will take the road of creating a ******* account to allow you guys to read advance chapters and at the same time, give myself some funding to weather through the school days. 

So yeah, I can't thank you guys enough for continuing to stick with me as I continue to write Spirit Immortal. I hope that I will be able to deliver the satisfying fiction that I have conjured up and brought you as much enjoyment as I had in writing this story!

Over a million years ago, the first human contracted with the first Spirit. Ever since then, Spirit use has become commonplace. Humans used Spirits to carry items and start fires. Eventually, even start wars. Thousands upon thousands of years past and one day, one human did the impossible. He transcended his mortality and ascended to the realm above.  

In the present day, the Frie Clan was once a great clan of the Himmel empire. However, a devastating battle ten years ago crippled the clan and their numbers dwindled. To make up for their loss, the upper echelons decided to adopt young orphans and nurture them to become a future pillar of the weakened clan. Shin was one of those orphans. 

Although picked up by the Frie Clan, not all is smooth sailing for Shin and the other orphans...

Whelp, I guess this is the end (for now at least). I remember back two months ago when I was writing my first work, the fanfic for Chojusen, I said something along the lines of  "I want to be known as the dumb dumb Author who finishes his novels and doesn't quit just because he "fell off..." And as I reflect on the decision I'm making right flipping now, I'm just as disappointed in myself as you guys. It's just, I'm not quitting because I fell off, rather, my lack of taking off in the first place is what's destroying what little motivation I have for writing this novel.

I don't know if you can understand what it's like to watch as the days go by and your work never makes any progress. What it's like to see other novels take off while yours is abandoned. Now, hopefully I don't offend any other authors on the site with words like the ones I'm throwing around right now, if your novel has taken off its more likely than not that you are competent as a writer and your work is deserving of its attention. I'm probably just coming off as a whiny bitch for being unsuccessful in my first venture as an original writer and to an extent, even I agree with that sentiment. It's just, I what to express myself in as open a manner as can be and realizing my frustrations through writing like this is what I feel helps.

I'm pretty sure I contributed in a large part to why my novel is so unpopular. I mean I started off with a message to everyone that it wouldn't be updating for a while and even after coming back I had to take another stop to go to Cuba. I give my own novels sub par review scores and even admit that I have no confidence in them. To anyone with even a modicum of logic, these are red flags and I'm not surprised that many people have turned away from reading.

However, for the last two or so months I've released almost 200,000 words and 112 chapters. And for the better part of those two months It's felt like I've been writing for no one. Sure the view counts update by the everyday and my collections count increase as well. But it's truly depressing to see only three or four comments per chapter; even though they are extremely appreciated. Honestly, if it weren't for the two or three people a see coming back every day — even if it is just to say "thanks for the chapter" — I wouldn't have made it for this long.

Even back when I was writing the other novel, where I would get things about the canonical story wrong or when I made a decision that didn't sit right with some of the readers, getting mean/harsh comments would be infinitely better for my motivation — and I'm assuming other authors as well — than just silence.

Well, that's enough of that nonsense so here's what I've decided to do. Writing this novel, even before I began publishing, is grating as I feel no confidence in my skills as an author and that has only further declined with how little interest the novel has amassed over the two months. It's gotten to the point where I literally write to meet the quota I set up for myself of 1 chapter a day and for bonus opportunities like power stone incentives. (Wait this is still rambling! Sorry...)

Anyways, the problem with motivation is more impactful than you guys can imagine as I literally know what to write next and how the story should progress, but just sitting before my computer and trying to type for what I've already doomed to failure causes distractions to magically manifest; like when you have homework and just so happen to find a dozen videos you'd much rather watch than do your duty. 

Thus, I'm deciding to not "drop" the novel and only put it on hiatus for now. Maybe if I become less whiny in the future and my career as an writer doesn't tank, I'll return to continue updating the story… But for now, I think I'll move on to enter in the webnovel weekly contests and write stories that gain an actual audience. If all else fails, I can somewhat confidently say that I'll return to this story eventually as I'm done with its outline and whatnot. The only thing I ask of you is to forgive me for wasting your time like so many other authors who don't finish their work and to remember that I'll eventually come back to finish what I started; maybe not now or in a year but eventually, I'll come to finish this story… 

P.S. I'll be writing under another pseudonym for a while, else the bad reputation I just created might come to haunt me if I do get successful. So, if you're still a "fan" of either me or this story, sorry you won't be able to find what I'm working on for now… (The characters I write might be dense and stupid, but I think this shameless move is the most pragmatic.)

Don't forget to delete your old reviews and give this novel new 1 star reviews. Though I'm shameless and cowardly, I'd rather not waste other people's time; at least not now that I'm discontinuing production for this novel. It seemed that trying to teach Ivy more about being a dryad would have to wait until she had learned how to make and control fire. Something about this seemed really backwards to me. A dryad caring more about how to make a fire than taking care of plants? I guess tending a fire is somewhat of a novelty. All she has been doing for the last 700 years is taking care of plants, albeit a little ineffectively. In some ways that is even worse than me being stuck at the pond for 500 years. I could only sigh remorsefully to myself. I really was not any better, I had not left the woods for a thousand years.  

I was still sitting around the first fire that they had used to cook there breakfast on. As I watched, Ivy and Leafia walk a little way off to a clear spot of ground to work on building a second fire for Ivy's practice. Ivy was really in high spirits at doing something different for the first time in a long time. I at least had memories from the previous times I had left the forest. She had not had the opportunity to make those kind of memories yet. I should let her experience things she wants for a change of pace. Besides, there were things that I could do to help her while she was playing.  

I caused some of the bark of my paper birch 'clothing' to start to peel off. Once it got to a good size I broke it off. I put the end of a small branch near me in the fire for a few moments until the end was blackened. I waited a minute after I took it out of the fire to make sure the end was not too hot. Then I started to write. I was going to make a list of things that she could work on to increase her strength and enlarge her reserve. 

I had wondered from time to time to time why all of the spirits knew how to speak and read from the time they became self aware. I had a feeling that it had something to do with Mother Earth. My guess was that she imbued this knowledge into the spiritual essence encompassing this land. This would explain this knowledge existing in all of us, since it was this spiritual essence that collected to form us. 

The other option was that she had her hand involved in the formation of each of us and implanted that knowledge in us while we coelessed from the energies of the world. This seemed less likely to me since it would be so much work for her to have a part in the creation of every sprite. I knew that if anyone was involved with this it had to be Mother Earth. The Great Nyad was not caring enough about anyone, especially us on land, to bother giving us that knowledge. Since they were the only two older than me it really only left Mother Earth. 

I did learn a lot watching Mist form a hundred years ago. However, I did not want to mess with her development so I did not probe too deeply. But I could tell that the process was complex. It involved many more steps than I imagined. At first I thought it was just spiritual essence gathering together into one spot then >poof< you have a sprite. Instead, I could feel that the dense spiritual essence was being organized and transformed by some hand. I should ask Mother Earth next time I see her. She would probably come if I asked her to, but I did not want to bother her. I was sure she was busy. She had much more to look after than me. 

Writing with a stick was getting frustrating. I could only write a few lines before I would have to put it back in the fire and then I would have to let it cool down. I let out a heavy sigh as I once again needed to put it back in the fire. I had been making a good point while I was writing. I was not sure if I could remember exactly how I wanted to write it when the stick was ready. Every time I had to stop to prepare the stick my mind got side-tracked with things. Like about why I could write in the first place while never being taught. As I reached out to put the stick back in the fire, I saw that a prepared stick had been placed right next to me. 

Looking up I saw Istan had several sticks in the fire preparing. I guess some good things can come from his over-attentiveness to me. "I thought that you would be able to get more done if I help preparing the pencils for you. Whatever you are writing must be very important for you to sacrifice part of yourself to write it." 

Part of me really wanted to roll my eyes at him. If we could get him to shut his mouth a little sooner there would be nothing wrong with him. I forced myself to resist and sincerely thanked him. 

So what was I wanting to say again? Oh yes, I was about to tell Ivy how to practice increasing her reserve. The method was not hard, but it took time. There was no quick fix. The only way I knew to improve was by using your reserve. She needed to use all her reserve and then let it recover and do it over and over again. But it was not that simple. If you really want it to be effective you need to make sure you go as far as you can. When you think you have pushed as far as you can, pause for a second and then try again. You will find that there was a little that you could not get the first time. You keep doing that until there really is nothing left. After that you meditate to regain your reserve quickly and do the same thing. Once you think you can not absorb any more you pause for a moment and try again. As you keep this up your power will increase. 

Writing was really going faster with Istan's help. Not only did I not need to wait for the writing implement, I think he called it a pencil, to be ready, the ones that he made wrote better and longer than what I was able to make. I really do not have much experience with fire. I also noticed my mind is wandering much less now that I did not have to take so many breaks. I should find some way to thank Istan later. Is there something I can do for him that won't be blown out of proportion…? Maybe I had better stick with just saying thank you. Now I was the one holding me up from writing as fast as I could, because every so often, I would have to stop to grow a new piece of paper. 

About an hour after I started, I looked up to see Ivy doing a funny dance around a fire. I am guessing that Leafia had managed to teach her how to make the fire. The dance Ivy performed really reminded me of the early humans. Now that the fire was going, it seemed like Leafia was trying to calm her down enough to show her how to start making the porridge.

Before I continued writing I made another sheet of paper for Istan. "Please write down how to make fire and porridge for her. I have a feeling she is a little flighty and might forget after a few decades."

I looked over at Istan who was holding the bark like it was the most important thing in the world. "Don't get any funny ideas. It is really just bark from a birch tree."

"But-"

"No buts. Please write for me."

"How could this be simple bark? You made it."

I really could do with less devotion. I leaned over to the side and put the pages I had been working on under a small rock so they did not blow away.  I let out my power and the world shimmered around me and appeared to recede. Before long I had stretched out to reach over most of the trees in the forest. I transformed myself into a birch tree nearly ten people tall. I shook my branches and let some sticks fall to the ground. Birches really do shed a lot. I also made sure plenty of bark peeled off my trunk and larger branches. I could use some of that bark later to finish what I was writing. As I stretched up to the sky, Istan managed to fall even from his seated position. 

I decided to try something Ivy had shown me. You were never too old to learn things. Even from the youngest of people. It took a couple tries to figure it out, but I managed it. "You and your family could search for 10 generations, until these branches turn back to dirt, and you would never be able to tell the difference between the branches I dropped and those from any other birch tree." After Istan managed to close his mouth he nodded mutely and seemed slightly sullen. It felt rather odd to speak as a tree. It tickled a little, just like humming sometimes did. Why did I bring my vision up with me as I grew? I usually kept it near eye level. I guess I wanted Istan to feel like I was towering over him. But there was no way for him to tell where I was focusing my attention and from what angle. 

The fire near my base was starting to flare up a little with some of the branches and bark that fell into it. Seems that I was playing with fire, too. Dryads and fire- who would have guessed this would happen? It was not that comfortable growing over a fire, but I did remember to not grow any branches too close to it, so it was not that bad. 

I 'glanced' over at Leafia and Ivy. I saw the pot for the porridge was on the ground near Ivy's feet. I really did not mean to startle them. Looks like I might have overdone it again. I could have just turned into a younger tree that was only 3 or 4 people tall. 

I turned back to my normal self and was sunk slightly into the dirt that was disturbed by my tree self. After getting myself out of the small pit I turned to Leafia and Ivy. "I am sorry for ruining your food."

Ivy did not seem to care. It looked like there were stars in her eyes. "That was so amazing. You can turn into such a magnificent tree in just a second. Will I be able to do that?"

"If you work hard and grow stronger you will be able to do more than this. And sorry, I should have asked before I used so much energy from your home." I did not think clearly and most of the spiritual energy used to transform came from her forest. 

"It was worth it to see that. Anyway, I think the benefits you are giving to my forest since you arrived will more than make up for this."

I guess I never went back my fully suppressed state. It felt better this way. And though I was absorbing power from the forest, the forest was being strengthened and fortified by my presence. This would allow Ivy to draw more from it in the long run. 

Seeing that Ivy was not upset, I said, "Well finish learning how to make porridge so I can teach you more about your powers." Ivy and Leafia finally looked down at their feet and started trying to salvage what they could. 

I found a good spot to sit down and finish what I was writing. But before I got started I handed Istan a pencil. He took the pencil and the bark and started writing, though I could still sense there was some reluctance and reverence for the paper in front of him.

The blight has overcome her woods for the first time in thousands of years. The Dryad, Laurel, has asked for the help of one of her only friends, the Great Animal Spirit, to find the cause of the blight. However, now that her friend has gone missing, Laurel is given no choice but to set out from her sacred garden for the first time in centuries to find her friend and save her home.

Sorry
This is the most words I use when writing in author thought corner. I feel so bad to myself and to readers. 

So to avoid myself continue feeling down (which affected my writing speed and idea), instead of Sorry, I will use my name, Himawari (Sunflower). Looking at sunflower give me energy. Like how it never fail facing forward the sun all the time.

So if my first word in Author though is "Himawari again!", it means "I am so sorry for delay update or delay of delay update. 

That's the drawback when you writing on a whim without proper research beforehand. Many time I considered to put this novel in hiatus for two years or longer until I finish completed the whole story. But two things stop me from pursuing this idea. 

First, I personally feel that I letting down the readers who still loyal to me (the collectors) despite me so slow more than the snail in updating. If I compete for my writing speed to a snail, I think that snail already successfully beat me in crawling across Algeria, a country that size  2,381,741 square kilometers,  the tenth-largest country in the world by area if I compared my writing speed from day one until now.  (If I  put Russia, the largest country with 17,098,242 square kilometers ) as a comparison, that means I will be beyond help)

The second reason is that there is a high probability, this work will be scrapped down after accumulating dust due to hiatus.

My eldest sister, Rose. pass away last December, that why both my book (Miss Nuggets& Lemonade and Blood Minus has a character attach the name of Rose. All my family member didn't manage to reach on time to meet her. (She lived in a different state)  And in my case, I was been forbidden by my parents to go even to attend the funeral because the next very day is my big exam. (I live in another state). The only left Big Sister  I have beside Sis Rose also forbid it and said if I truly love Sister Rose, I must pass this exam. Use DO OR DIE Attitude when taking the exam (that her phrase for me).

At the hall, I notice everyone that I have eye contact before the first paper look at me weirdly, and during a short break within the test I went to the restroom to empty my bladder, I kind of understand why they give 'the look' when i look at my face in the mirror when washing hand. afterward, I keep chanting the mantra "focus" while writing the answer to avoid breaking down. Honestly, even now, I will always reprogram my head, she was having a break and taking a trip. Because if I break down now, these book and other books will be officially hiatus until I recover.

And I did pass that exam. After retake 4 times for the same level PREVIOUSLY. Thank God, I somehow have enough strength to pass it.

Her death devastated my parents (my mom admit it both during my last trip home in May, that the main reason why I resign as soon I finish my exam (level 4) and give proper notice before going back to work seriously on writing and...in between becoming a modern farmer (hope this will work). I am also worried about my finance future since my hometown doesn't have many job opportunity (almost nonexistence) where I can use my degree. 

Before, I forgot. Thank you God for the Bless, and the wishes from friends here, the doctor said I have a clean bill of health from our last appointment ( apart still slightly cough from time to time). Thank you for your wishes. And now I'm officially jobless and safely arrive at my hometown from my previous home after driving more than10 hours. It usually takes 7 or 8 hours but my sister and I take a few stops for shower and eating.

 Enough about a sad part...

So back to my less gloomy rambling...

Since I start writing until now, I'm always worried about the feedback from the readers. The numbers of collection keep increasing but the numbers of comment still low. I want to create a piece different from others. In writing, the thing I'm scared the most is creating my self-indulgent piece that will bore the readers.

 So please, helps me by giving comments. If you love this book, please write some positive reviews. If it's not, just post the comments on the related chapter. My aim is to share a piece of happiness through this book when life is so hard and challenging.

Xie Ming took his phone and stared at the picture of thick paper which has turned dirty over the years. It's been very hard to read what's written on it as it has many stains on it and its condition was very bad.

There were some words written on it. Though she couldn't read them properly as they, but she frown appeared on her face when she realized that these words seemed familiar.

Zhao Ming pursed her lips as it's quite late and he didn't even eat anything. She was in bed because she wasn't hungry but..he was working and still didn't eat anything?
Feng Ju pursed his lips and said, " Your Majesty, pardon me for telling you this, but his majesty hasn't eaten properly since he has shifted to the other room. He always asks about you and your health but wasn't taking care of his health at all." 
Zhao Ming pursed her lips as she realized that unknowingly she had hurt his feelings. She was having a hard time because of her feelings but he wasn't aware of this at all.
Yet he complied with her wishes and gave her the space she wanted. But in that process, he was struggling yet never complained about it.
"Okay. You go and do your work." 
" Lu shi, bring me a tray of food. I am going to have breakfast with..my husband." Zhao Ming's lips curled up as she said these words.

ONE YEAR LATER

Shradha walked into  Computer Science department. She had to meet the dean of the department regarding her project. After discussing for 45 minutes about the project, the dean wanted to speak to her regarding future plans and higher studies. He gave examples of a few seniors who were currently pursuing masters abroad and urged Shradha to think about masters. He seemed to think that with her grades, projects and coding experience all the good universities were within reach. He had said it would increase her value in the job market. Shradha had promised to research further about scholarships and other things for his sake. 

"At home, dad wants to increase my value in the wedding market; here the dean wants to increase my value in the job market. Why are people behind increasing my value !?" Shradha murmured jokingly. She walked to her scooty thinking Nishant would have enjoyed that dialogue. 

Within one year, a lot of things had changed, not just for Shradha and Nishant, but for others as well.  Prithvi and Rohan were integral part of their life and 4 of them hung out a lot at Rohan's apartment. Technically it was a shared place between  Prithvi and Rohan but  Prithvi paid only a small part of the rent while all other expenses were taken care by Rohan. They knew very well how to balance each others family and financial situation. Rohan was from a wealthy family in Delhi while  Prithvi was from a lower middle class family in Bengaluru.  Prithvi stayed in hostel as his home was far from college and daily commute was tiresome, but he visited home regularly. Rohan accompanied him most of time as  Prithvi's parents knew that he was homesick. So they showered Rohan with love and care. Rohan's family was grateful to know that someone was taking care of their precious son well. So they had never objected Rohan even when he spent a lot of money for  Prithvi. Both families were happy about their friendship.

Nishant had been spending a major part of his day in their apartment. He thought that their apartment was the perfect place for him to work on his writing. He would go back home mostly for eating and speaking in the night. Sheela had been really unhappy about this development, but there was nothing she could do. Her son did not respond to her emotional blackmails like earlier. In a way he had grown immune to her words. He would just smile and get on with his work. Nishant always tried his best not to be rude to Sheela or fight with her. He would just listen to her without actually listening to her and never argued back. This was the tactic his father had taught him secretly and this trick saved Nishant from stress. Then again, he hardly spent time at home. Writing had become one of the important part of Nishant and somehow Rohan's bachelor pad was the perfect place for him to be creative and write. Nishant had also been taking more responsibilities at lit club and he had been the chief editor of the college magazine for the last few months.
