The Collector began to circle around the red hobgoblin, its tusks aimed down, ready to gore the variant in a charge. The Collector knew what the concept of gods were. Worshipped, fancifully constructed entities from tinkerer species during primitive stages of their development.
Usually created in their image, vain as these tinkerers often tended to be. A socially constructed fantasy to explain the decisions of nature, the fires that might destroy their crops or the lightning strikes that might kill their young when the tinkerers were yet too primitive to truly grasp the nature of these phenomena.
The Collector recognized that species of this advancement would likely be at a stage where they did worship these imaginary entities. It thus filed what the hobgoblin had just said under nonsensical, primitive babble.
The Collector had more useful topics to devote its mental processing to.
This red variant of hobgoblin did indeed possess an uncanny resistance to heat that reached well past the melting point of many metals. It was a property that was not immediately apparent from its innate biology, for nothing about its skin or musculature indicated heat resistant properties.
"Ganth, pull back. Using [guard] at the last minute saved you from dying, but if this creature can smash through even that-,"
The Collector swiped at the red hobgoblin with one of its arachnid arms while it distracted itself speaking to its companion. The red variant, however, despite not even looking directly at the Collector, managed to evade the sweeping slice by jumping backwards with an agile flip, landing on the ground almost as if in slow motion.
"I…fight," muttered Ganth as he managed to raise himself to a knee, though his deep wheezing indicated a soon to be mortal wound from the severity of his internal bleeding. Likely, judging by the rattling cadence of the breaths, a broken rib had punctured a lung.
"Just go!" said Shun. "Alert Juzo but try to get your thrall Hrunt here too. I can stall, but I cannot hold this creature for long."
Ganth grunted, took a look at the battle, then at his bleeding side, and turned, limping back further into he camp.
The Collector surged forwards again, this time calculating a series of attacks to minimize evasive maneuvers. It first swung its head forward, striking with its long, bladed tusks, and then its arachnid arms splayed out, ready to catch the red hobgoblin from any angle if it dodged the initial strike.
Shun evaded the tusks with remarkable agility and then raised his blade against the onslaught of arachnid spider legs.
The Collector's monomolecular claw tipped legs sliced through the blade as cleanly as if nothing was there at all. Two of its arachnid claws struck true, sinking deep into the red hobgoblin's sword arm shoulder.
The red hobgoblin moved back in a burst of immensely quick movement that the Collector did not expect. Such movement bordering on small-scale warping did not seem at all within the red variant's muscular capacities.
The Collector grew increasingly confused and, for the first time since it entered this world, frustrated.
Miscalculation after miscalculation, and yet why? It had perfectly perceived and analyzed the physical abilities of both hobgoblins, and though they were certainly taller and bigger than the black ones, particularly the white skinned variant, that alone would not explain these inexplicable movements.
The Collector growled and clanked its mandibles together, eyeing the red hobgoblin. At the least, it would seem this one would soon fall. The twin strikes the Collector inflicted upon the red variant had severed major tendons and muscles, causing blood to spurt form open gashes that exposed lacerated bone.
"Well then," said Shun as he eyed his right shoulder. His arm hung limp, completely useless. His volcanite odachi lay in two, cleanly sliced pieces on the ground. "To cut through reinforced volcanite, those claws are truly exceptional. Adamantite, is it? No, even sharper than that."
"Cease your incessant babbling, primitive," said the Collector as it lunged forwards, scything its arachnid arms to break the red hobgoblin into pieces.
Shun dodged the incoming strikes, his qi focused entirely into his eyes to utilize sense. He did not have the luxury to react to the fact that the creature could speak their language, for he had to spend every ounce of his thoughts on survival.
At the very least, this creature did not seem magical in nature. He could not sense that it was projecting any mana, making it so that without opposing magical aura to throw off his [sense], he could read every single one of the creature's movements before they even happened.
Shun saw the creature lower its center of gravity, and immediately his vision flashed red. Mortal danger. He leaped backwards, making distance between himself for the ensuing charge.
"Judging from your facial expressions and body language, you are capable of perceiving my actions the moment I begin processing them. You move before I move. I calculate a high probability of psionic capabilities, and yet, I cannot sense any psionic charge from within you," said the Collector. "Curious."
"I…have no idea what that means, nor who sent you, monster," said Shun as he breathed in deep, focusing his qi, focusing his will. He had to stand his ground here. Stall for time. "But you best give up and go crawling back to whatever human sorcerer created you, for he did a bad job. Without any mana, I can read you as clearly as a springside stream. You will never strike me."
Shun narrowed his eyes.
This was a bluff.
Utilizing [sense] meant he could perceive the creature's movements and aggressions, but constantly projecting his qi outwards would eventually mean he would run out, and without qi to reinforce his movements, it did not matter if he could see the attacks coming if he was too slow to dodge them.
This creature was immensely strong in terms of sheer physical power, speed, and durability.  
As if to prove this point, the monster sped forwards, once more striking first with its tusks. Shun swerved to the side and then ducked under a row of sweeping arachnid legs. He put qi into his legs and then leaped away as the monster swiveled its body, sending its armored tail into Shun's side like a club.
Though Shun perceived the attack, he was a little slow. He reduced the damage with his qi empowered backstep, but he could still feel a large bruise welling up from shorn and bloody skin where the club-like end of the monster's tail barely grazed him.
In purely physical strength and speed, this monster was easily on par with a three-star adventurer, far beyond any of the hobgoblins and matching or surpassing even Juzo, the champion.
Though the monster lacked magic, it possessed claws sharper than reinforced adamantite, making any defense utterly useless against it.
If the beast managed to surprise Juzo or even lord Zoll as it had surprised Shun when it sliced through his volcanite odachi, then it was entirely possible for the monster to instantly kill either of them if they were not being cautious.
Hrunt was the best way to kill this creature with his ranged magic.
Shun grimaced, steeling his resolve. Hrunt was on his way to this camp from the inner one, but he was still quite some time away.
If Shun could not hold this monster here, then he had no doubt it would devastate the vast majority of hobgoblins and goblins in the camp for none of them were Awakened to any high degree, relying only on the strength of their flesh and bone.
"I will hold you here," declared Shun as he took in a deep breath, spreading his stance wide to allow for larger ranges of movement. "Whether I die or live. Soon, you will come to know the might of the tribes of Oe."
"Does your tribe specialize in fleeing like vermin?" said the Collector. "I am unimpressed, primitive. I will enjoy tearing your flesh from the bone."
"Go ahead and try," said Shun. He held in a breath; his senses tuned to the max. He could feel and hear his rising heartbeat, he could smell the bitter, foul scent of burned grass, and he could feel the tiniest breeze of wind touch against his skin.
With [sense] like this, he would evade everything this monster could muster.
The monster moved, rushing in towards him.
Shun readied himself, his muscles tensing as he ascertained the creature's intent. Would it swipe at him with its spider claws? Strike at him with its long tusks? Whip at him with its tails? So many possibilities, and yet, [sense] meant out of all those countless paths, he would perceive only the one the monster decided on.
Shun froze. He had never felt anything like this. He saw what the monster decided on, but-
The Collector rushed past the red hobgoblin's body, its body low and its arachnid claws stuck out in front of it. A moment later, the red variant's severed head landed in front of the Collector, blood spilling out onto the darkened grass.
The Collector clicked its mandibles as it looked down at the surprised expression on the hobgoblin's severed head. The Collector knew the primitive had the capacity to read its movements and foresee them.
Certain tinkerers with psionic charges could do the same. The Collector had never had to deal with them to any large degree for when it was fully connected to the Collective, it possessed an innate psionic defense that rendered anything possible by an individual tinkerer ineffective.
But the Collector had improvised. If the hobgoblin primed its movements based on a precognitive perception of what the Collector decided upon, then the Collector would simply overwhelm the hobgoblin.
With superior mental processing systems, the Collector could commit itself to dozens of attack paths at once in equal intensity. The red hobgoblin had likely been overwhelmed by the sheer density of attacks it predicted, and its primitive mental systems simply could not keep up.
The Collector swallowed the hobgoblin's head. It heard the hobgoblin's body fall behind it with a thump. The Collector turned and consumed the rest of the goblin. It would have liked to savor the red variant's taste for the primitive for though its erratic movements had irked the Collector, it had challenged the Collector as a warrior.
There was no time, however. The Collector had to continue its attack and catch up with the white skinned variant before it could fully alert the rest of the camp.
The Collector continued its charge in the direction of the white skinned variant's escape.

Consume and evolve to become the strongest. 

The Collector, an alien warrior on a mission to absorb all life, transmigrates to a world of fantasy and magic.

The Collector observed the webbing it had drawn up over the den. There were bloody stains on it from the goblin that been trapped there in a final attempt to escape. The goblin itself had been consumed – the last of its brethren.

For now, the Collector's next target was to scope out intelligent civilizations on this planet for they posed the greatest potential threat to it, and thus it had extracted all the information it could about the nearby human settlement from the goblins.

From the goblins' memories, it would seem that they, under the leadership of the hobgoblin, were intending on rallying their forces, calling from other dens further in the jungle, and overrunning the village for their supplies and females. 

The humans of the settlement were at the very early stages of development as a tinkering civilization, just past the stage when they were hunter gatherers to cultivating the land, living off of harvests instead of migratory hunts. There was some semblance of hierarchy and division of labor among the humans, with there being an appointed leader and various laborers, farmers, gatherers, hunters, and warriors. 

Their level of technology was low. They worked with pliable plant matter such as wood, building homes with the substance. They had some measure of metal-working, but they did not have the technology to produce refined alloys. There was no technology to speak of. Though these humans utilized tools, they still merely utilized tools as an extension of their strength, not relying on engines or artificial intelligences. 

There was one thing that confused the Collector, however. It was the presence of a substance called magic. One of the goblins had a vivid memory of it. A robed human waving its hands and unleashing a torrent of flame from seemingly nowhere. 

The Collector had searched its memory banks long and hard for any technology that the Collective might have encountered that was similar, but in all instances where tinkering species created fire, it was through devices. To simply wave one's extremities and generate flames was not recorded.  

The Collector would have to search for more information regarding this phenomenon known as magic. As of now, it was not particularly worried. If this 'magic' only had the power to generate fire, then it was useless. Regular fire and its temperatures was nothing to the Collector's level of organic hyperalloy carapace.

For now, the Collector would head to the human settlement the goblins had planned to attack. It lay an hours run from the den, but it would wait around the settlement outskirts until night came to conduct its hunting and investigations.

The problem with tinkering species, and one of the traits that allowed them to surpass the limitations of nature, was that they were social, sticking closely together and grouping their efforts when needed. The Collector could not recklessly hunt down humans without expecting some form of group retribution. 

Thus it would prowl at night, capturing and interrogating humans. It had already learned the language from the human it had consumed in the den, but if the humans proved to be useless when interrogated, then it would not hesitate to consume them. 

With a plan in mind, the Collector used its claws to tear down the webbing at the den's entrance. The blood-soaked silk wafted gently to the ground, letting in rays of light once more. With a swift motion, it hoisted itself up and over the den's entrance and onto the forest floor.

There, a surprise awaited. 

A welcome surprise. 

Humans. 

Four of them. Two females and two males. Three of them were grouped together, while another, a female, stood further back. 

The Collector emitted a low growl. It could smell their aggression and fear, the sweat forming on their foreheads, the stench of adrenaline reeking from within their bodies. It extended its claws until they were like daggers. Its antennae stood up straight and alert, sensing every single minute movement from the humans. 

"What in the name of the gods is this? The hobgoblin?" said one of the humans. A male. He wielded a sword. Good musculature. Tall and proportionally built. Garbed in hardened animal skins that protected his vitals. Movements rigid with alarm but relaxed enough to fight if needed.

"Perhaps your eyes need healing at the temple if you mistake this as anything resembling a goblin," said his companion. He was shorter, but more muscled. Wore metal armor all over his body. Wielded what the Collector identified as a spear.

"Miss scribe, do you know what it is?" said the female of the trio. She was shorter and slimmer than the males – a characteristic of human females, it seemed. She had little armor, instead wearing robes. A lengthy stick lay at her hands. 

The female at the very back answered. "I haven't the faintest clue." She used some sort of small, stick-like tool to jab at a piece of thin, square-shaped plant matter. "But as adventurers, you lot are prepared for all manners of threat known or unknown, no?"

"Got that damn right," said the sword-wielding male. "Gunther, stay in front of me and try and see if the thing's aggressive."

"Feeling a little cowardly, are we Dale?" said the spear-wielder. He inched forwards, spear extended. 

"You know there's nothing I love more in this world than tearing apart a rare monster," said the sword-wielder, baring a toothy smile. "But we won't be enjoying our coin as corpses, and you're the one wearing full-plate. I always have to tell you: caution is key."

"And don't forget," said the woman with the stick. "I have you boneheaded fools' backs anyway."

Gunther nodded. "Aye, I can't count how many times I would have been dead without you, fair lady."

"Flirting on the job, are we?" said Dale as he circled the Collector, sword glinting under the sun.
 
"No, just raised with manners," replied Gunther. 

The Collector observed the humans' exchange with interest. They seemed to be a highly social species, communicating with each other well. Their language was complex and it seemed that even the average member of the species had adequate mastery over it. Their ideas were of a relative higher-order, capable of tactical planning under pressure. At a first glance, it would seem they would be good to interrogate. 

"Humans," said the Collector.

All the humans froze except the one at the back who continued scratching away at her square of plant fiber. 

"It…talks?" said the woman.

"Quiet, Bea," said Dale. "Intelligent monsters shouldn't be insulted. They can be reasoned with. Gunther, back off."

Gunther hesitantly withdrew from the Collector, but his spear was still lowered. 

"What is your name, good creature?" asked Dale. 

"I require no such thing as a name," said the Collector. "Names are weakness. They signify individuality. The Collective is all that truly matters."

Dale nodded slowly. "I see. Then, good monster-"

"Neither am I monster," replied the Collector. "I sense that in this language, 'monster' connotes a being of inferiority and savagery. I am evolutionarily far beyond your primitive kind."

"A mere monster dares to lord over us?" said Gunther. 

The Collector sensed heightened aggression. It stretched out its claws.

"Quiet, Gunther, you bumbling oaf," said Dale. "My apologies, good…creature," he said to the Collector. "We only wish to know why you are here. You see, we were tasked with exterminating the goblins in this very den."

"They are gone. I have consumed all of them," said the Collector.

"The hobgoblin too?" asked Dale.

"The larger variant of the species too." 

"Then we have no quarrel with you, good creature," said Dale. "We are merely curious as to where you are going from here."

"A settlement of your kind due north."

Gunther grasped his spear in both hands. "Enough! We are adventurers. We slay monsters, not parlay with them. This beast has made its intentions clear. It wishes to lay waste to our villages. What more must we hear!?"

"Gunther, wait, you impulsive fool!" shouted Dale, but it was too late. 

Gunther roared as he sprinted, thrusting the spear outwards to the Collector's stomach.

The Collector did not react. It had assessed the tensile durability of the weapon and determined it held zero threat. An object of mere wood and soft metal would do nothing. The spear thumped on the Collector's hardened carapace, sliding off of it and screeching out sparks. 

Gunther cried out in surprise as he slipped forwards. He had not expected the spear to simply slide off the Collector's armor and his reckless forward momentum, so abruptly halted, ruined his balance. 
The Collector grabbed Gunther's helmeted head in its hand. At two and a half meters of raw muscle, the Collector's hand was large enough to wrap around Gunther's helmet and keep it in a vice-like grip.

The Collector raised Gunther off the ground with ease. The human flailed, kicking uselessly at the Collector.

"Bea! Spell! Cast a spell!" shouted Dale.

Bea hastily aimed her staff the Collector and began chanting.

Too late.

The Collector crushed Gunther's helmet like a tin can, turning the soft head within into complete mush. Blood and brains flowed from its fingertips, dripping on the grass. It tossed Gunther's body aside. It would have liked to question this human, but its aggression proved to be too much.

The other humans, however, seemed more open to negotiation. 

The Collector began leisurely walking forwards.

"Eldir!" shouted Bea as she pointed the stick at the Collector. Sparks whirled around the tip of the stick for a second before coalescing into a ball of fire that ejected forwards. 

The Collector stuck out its arm and blocked the fireball. It exploded violently, bursting out a torrent of thick flame that momentarily blotted out the Collector's figure in an orange blaze.

"Fuck!" shouted Dale. He pointed at Gunther's body, still twitching, and said to Bea, "Bea, heal him! Quick!"

Bea bit her lip, tears welling in her eyes. "I…you know I can't heal that."

Dale roared in rage, stomping the ground. "Gods above," he said. "This was supposed to be easy. A quest for goblins, they said. Those fucking villagers."

 "What was that?" said the Collector as it emerged from the pillar of flame burning behind it. Fires licked its whole body, but they were growing smaller by the moment, unable to burn a single inch of the Collector's durable form. "You, female, how did you generate fire? The explosive force? I do not see a flamethrower on you, nor is there any combustion engine."

It began walking towards the female.

Dale stepped in, sword drawn. "No you don't, you damned monster." 

"You tinkering species are so unpredictable. First, you extend me pleasantries, and just seconds later, you are pure aggression." The Collector waved the human male away. "Move. I have no use for you, and your biomass will provide me little. I must question the female." 

"Over my bloody corpse," said Dale through gritted teeth. He rushed, aiming up and slashing at the Collector's head. 

The Collector's antennae twitched as it sensed the attack almost before it happened, the sensitive hairs knowing how each and every single one of the humans muscles were twitching and how they would propel, calculating the exact trajectory and arc of its swing. It tilted its head back ever so slightly and caught the blade between its mandibles. 

Dale heaved as he tried to get his blade back, but the Collector's grip was too tight. The Collector exerted force in its mandibles and split the blade into two. 

"You are useless. Not a threat nor do you have information." The Collector spit the blade out and swiped at the male's head, slicing it into five neat chunks. One of the chunks still held Dale's eyes, still screwed in an angry expression as it landed onto the ground with a bloody squelch. 

Had these humans fought the Collector when it was at its previous metamorphosis level, then they would have defeated it. But now, they were weak. Nothing but creatures that the Collector would either ask or beat information out from, whichever was more efficient. 

"Now, for my questions," said the Collector as it stepped over the male corpse, towards the female. 

Bea pointed her staff at the Collector again. "Eldir!"

Another fireball emerged, hitting the Collector straight on. Once more, the Collector walked past the blazing inferno, now much closer to the female.

"Do not run, female," said the Collector. "Your leg muscles are weak. You would be wise to preserve your energy."

The Collector was now right in front of the female, towering over her. It was almost twice her size. 

She shivered in fright.

"Tell me, female," said the Collector. "Was it 'magic' you utilized just now?" 

The female dropped her staff and clutched at a pendant around her neck. "I will never give up the secrets of the Order, beast," she said weakly. 

The Collector bent over, its mandibles grazing her soft, yielding neck. She was pale with fright and shaking so hard her teeth could be heard chattering. 

"I am merely asking for information. You tinkering species value sharing information, no?" 

"I pledge myself to the Order, and so shall order come to be. I pledge myself against chaos, and so shall order come to be. I pledge myself for the four realms of good, and so shall order come to be."
 
"What are you saying, human?" said the Collector. 

"I pledge myself to the Order…" said Bea, her eyes wild with fear. She chanted out the one thing that gave some small measure of comfort to her fear-riddled mind: the oath she had taken to join the Order of Sorcerers. 

The Collector stopped her, grasping its index and thumb fingers around her neck. "Your pulse is dangerously high. Your vitals are out of control. You are in shock, babbling nonsense. You will be of no use to me."

The Collector crushed her neck and tossed her aside. It turned its attention to the last of the humans, the female still scratching away at her trinket.

"A-are those hands?"
Rose was not sure if it was curiosity, nervousness, or excitement that led her to take a peek, but as soon as she heard Mark's question, she did. She immediately went behind the front seats where she could see from several houses away, where the road just started going downwards, that there were hands rising from the ground.
Err, no. Rose couldn't see it clearly because of dust and sand flying in the air, but those hands didn't look like people. It is something else, something with hands is rising up on the road.
"Are those people?"
"I don't think so, something seems wrong."
Mark was right about something. Those were indeed people, and they were very much alive just a month ago. Although the same couldn't be said today.
Something very wrong happened between last month and today, and that something could be somewhat horrible.
Lieutenant Mickey's good eyesight immediately noticed what Mark hadn't. There were seven hands, so if one was a cripple, then there should be four people raising their hands. Yet the hands rising didn't look right.

Unlike the one Rando encountered, this particular Collector was wasn't made with sewer water, but with sand. It didn't look like a blob of slime, but a small hill sand. A hill of red sand with arms sticking out of it. 
"What the fuck is this supernatural shit!?"
Lieutenant Mickey screamed in frustration as soon as he saw the Collector before immediately turning the truck around and driving away immediately.
They already got quite far inside Malagamot Road, and if that Existence's speed was even close to the other Existence they just encountered, they probably wouldn't survive.
They didn't have enough grenades. Even after five direct grenade explosions, the Slime Collector still tried to stand up. If this one is even remotely the same, then they're doomed.
Lieutenant Mickey's group is already panicking, but unlike before, the Collector this time is still quite far away and not directly in their face. 
Even Mark was still able to think.
"G-grenades!"
But Rose had a much scary thought.
"That's not the same monster, is it?"
"What the fuck, don't jinx us!"
Mark immediately retorted.
If it was the same Collector, then its speed alone is already bad news for Lieutenant Mickey's group. And if it was the same Existence, then there was a big chance that their door would be ripped out, considering it tore apart Rando's leather jacket easily.
Of course, Lieutenant Mickey's group didn't know that last point, but that isn't the problem right now.
Anthony suddenly spoke.
"No, it isn't."
This Collector is not the same Existence they just encountered. He sounded very sure in his words that you would believe in him if you didn't know him. The way he sounded was as if he knew the Existence completely and was very sure that there was no way this Collector was the same as the last one.
But the thing is, Lieutenant Mickey's group all know him. They also know what Anthony should also know about the Existences as they were together the whole time. He was a new recruit, just like Mark and Rose, and this is their second encounter with an existence just like them.
'How does he know?'
How he is sure about that existence not being the same as the one before is something to be doubted upon, but that's not the issue at the moment.
"Let's hope you're right."
Lieutenant Mickey said before increasing the speed of the truck. He glanced at the rear facing car seat mirror to look at the collector they just saw. 
And he saw that it was standing still, as if to await their arrival. It didn't seem to want move at all. In fact, it was even waving at them.
Why was it waving at Lieutenant Mickey's group?
Rose and Anthony who were inside the back of the truck saw this, too. Rose was especially bewildered at the sight of the Existence waiving its hands at them.
Anthony then started to talk.
"I… I think we can pass through that existence."
After hearing that, Mark hurriedly shouted back.
"What are you talking about!? Did you forget how scary the last one looked and acted? If that one was any faster, you wouldn't have been able to throw the grenades fast enough!"
He doesn't want to experience the horror of his first encounter against an Existence ever again. And it looks like Rose doesn't want to, too.
Rose looked at Anthony with a confused expression, while Lieutenant Mickey just continued to drive, seemingly having no thoughts of going back to pass through that monster.
Anthony expected this and continued to explain.
"I mean, it's not moving after all."
That was a good reason, but it sounded like naive thinking. 
At this point, Lieutenant Mickey could just choose to drive back to their base using another road and explain to Captain Soles that they were attacked by a monster different from what they encountered last time. He could also just use another, safer path to get to Rando than to pass through the Collector they just encountered.
'There was no need to risk it and pass through that monster, it might suddenly attack us.'
And by then it would probably be too late.
Mark, who didn't know about the Collector standing and waving yet, tried to peek outside the window. But before he could even open the window, Anthony suddenly warned him.
"Don't! Don't open the windows!"
Mark grew nervous as he heard that and his hands immediately stopped.
This was the second time Anthony warned everybody to not open the windows.
They were already quite far from the collector, and Mark didn't understand why Anthony was saying this and now suddenly had the balls to complain.
"It's just a little bit of dust, man, I can hold my breath for a few seconds."
Mark soundrd as if he really just wanted to see the collector.
Lieutenant Mickey heard this and stopped Mark from doing anything stupid.
"Just look at the dann mirror."
Lieutenant Mickey said as he took his right hand off the steering wheel and pulled Mark's arm with it. He was skilled enough to drive with just one hand and use the other hand for something else. In this case, it's holding down his junior's arm. But that was when he noticed something wrong.
Mark's uniform is wet, really really wet. He looked at Mark's face and saw that he was also sweating beads. He looked at the rear view mirror and saw that his other junior's were also sweating.
And he also realized that he was sweating.
Something was wrong.
Lieutenant Mickey looked at the sky outside the truck as he drove.
It was the same as before.
Grey clouds shaded the roads, the leaves and the tree tops were dancing in the air, and the cool breeze could be heard from outside.
But,
"Why is it so hot?"

Monsters made from the formation of numerous bodies terrorized the land.

This isn't another zombie apocalypse no9vel, but how would people in countries where most households don't have guns fight and survive against powerful monsters?

"Phew!"
When Feng Luo was standing on the tree watching the "military parade," the Collector Beetles had all crawled and stood before him and spat out items from their stomach storage that could expand up to ten times.
A few Level 30 gears, over a hundred energy crystals of various grades (mostly low-grade), and other materials were piled on the ground.
The gears were items dropped by the Cave Spiders that Feng Luo killed. As for the energy crystals and materials, they were dropped by Cave Spiders that were single-handedly killed by the beetle soldiers.
However, Feng Luo was not really all that interested in those items, because the Cave Spiders were too low level. As such, the items they dropped also had low levels, normally being around only Level 30 or so.
Level 30 items, even if they were Rare Grade items, would not be better than Level 50 Fine Grade items. They were not really valuable at the Exchange.
Feng Luo's bullets were probably more expensive than the price of all the items combined.
However, there were also a few exceptions. Feng Luo picked up three items from the pile of battle loot.
Two rings and a necklace. They were all a dark yellowish-green with Cave Spider patterns carved on them.
The three items were dropped by the Cave Spider Queen, and it was clear that the items completed a full set of decorative items. Moreover, it was highly likely that they were Rare Grade items.
Although Rare Grade gears of a lower level would not fetch a high price, the price of Rare Grade decorative items was still quite substantial.
The Cave Spider Queen was a Level 40 monster, at the very least, the decorative item set would be Level 40. It was close to the level of mainstream equipment. In addition, since it was a full set, the price might not be lower than a full set of Rare Grade equipment.
"With this, I've recouped my cost." Feng Luo put the three items inside his special agent inventory bag. Since those three items were high-level gears dropped by a Quasi-Boss monster, they needed to be appraised first. At the moment, he could not see their stats or attributes.
Apart from the set of decorative items, the Quasi-Boss Cave Spider Queen also dropped a blueprint chip. Feng Luo thought that it was probably going to fetch a decent market value.
It was a potion creation blueprint for an item called "Cave Spider Poison," and only Doctors could learn it.
After learning the blueprint, the player would be able to create poison with powerful effects, and the main ingredients were the poison crystals dropped by the Cave Spiders. The higher the level of the crystal, the stronger the potion.
The Cave Spider's poison crystals were considered rare materials dropped by the Cave Spiders. As such, Feng Luo had instructed all the Collector Beetles to collect and store all such materials on the battlefield.
He wouldn't be able to use those items, however, if he were to package them up and sell them, Feng Luo was certain that they were going to be quite valuable.
"Squeak, squeak..." After Feng Luo collected his loot, 24K who had finished recalling all its subordinates had also got back.
A Level 40 Elite Grade Collector Beetle with the flying ability followed closely behind 24K. Its brown claws were holding five light green crystals. After arriving in front of Feng Luo, the Collector Beetle passed them to him.
"What are these? Oh, it's the Commander Grade Cave Spiders' crystal core." Feng Luo discovered that they were the crystal cores dropped by the Commander Grade Cave Spiders after picking them up and inspecting them. He prepared to put these crystal cores into his inventory.
Although they were the crystal cores of Level 38 Commander Grade monsters, their value on the market was still worth thousands or even tens of thousands of credits.
"Squeak, squeak..." When 24K saw that Feng Luo had no intention, it began to squeak loudly while moving its tiny claws in the air, making some gestures while standing on the back of the Collector Beetle.
Through the mental link with 24K, Feng Luo received a message that surprised him for a moment.
"What? You're saying that these things can help them increase their grades? These crystal cores contain a special substance. There is a certain percentage for the beetle soldiers to advance their grade after eating them..." As Feng Luo sorted 24K's message and gradually understood more about it, the happier he looked.
The creatures in War can advance their grade, whether it is a pet or a wild monster. Under certain circumstances, they can advance their grades.
Since the beetles' grades were confirmed after their incubation, Feng Luo always thought they were fixed and did not imagine that they could be increased after they were born. Feng Luo then understood why the group of beetles was fighting against the Cave Spiders.
After all, they could advance their grades after eating the crystal cores of their enemies. For the simple-minded beetle soldiers, and under the guidance and lure of their natural instincts, they did not consider the fact that they might fail and lose the battle.
"Ugh... This means that... A huge loss." Feng Luo suddenly thought of something.
There should be more than five Cave Spider crystal cores.
Apart from the eight Commander Grade Cave Spiders that might drop the crystal core, the Quasi-Boss Cave Spider Queen should have a 100% crystal core drop rate; the grade of the crystal was most definitely going to be higher.
However, the Cave Spider Queen's energy crystal core was destroyed at the last crucial moment by the self-destruction.
"A huge loss... what a loss..." Feng Luo smiled bitterly.
The crystal core of a Quasi-Boss... It was not the crystal core of a Boss Grade monster, so Feng Luo had rated its value as around a few million credits at most.
The price was not enough for him to risk dying and losing a level to stop the Cave Spider Queen's self-destruct.
Now that he had received this piece of intel, he knew that he had made a mistake. He had missed a chance to obtain a Quasi-Boss Grade beetle soldier.
"Forget it. I've earned enough from this. Moreover, it's percentage based. It's not like it'll definitely advance its grade..." Feng Luo shook his head as his face gradually regained its calm.
He had earned a lot today. He easily gained over 400 beetles from this battle, and among the 400 beetles, over a hundred were Elite Grade beetles.
Not to mention the five energy crystal cores in his hand had the chance to directly give him a couple of Commander Grade beetle soldiers.
In terms of luck, this was an incredible profit. Feng Luo thought that he should be content.
Regardless, Feng Luo still thought it was regrettable. All the Cave Spiders in the valley had been wiped out by the beetles.
Feng Luo was not even sure if they would be respawned. If they were not going to be respawned, then it would mean that he would lose the chance to increase the grade of the beetles in the future.
"Squeak, squeak..." However, the message that 24K transmitted to Feng Luo surprised him again.
"What? You're saying that they are planning to build a nest here?" Feng Luo had wondered before where the beetle soldiers were before they were summoned through the wormhole.
After all, they were classified as "wild" monsters and not pets. As such, the normal beetles were not staying with 24K inside the pet space.
After asking 24K, he found that the beetles stayed inside a "nest" in reality. When 24K summoned them, they would go through the wormhole to enter and exit their nest.
As for the location of the nest, it was in a hidden underground location in the wild.
With regard to the intention of the new beetles, it was clear that they did not want to return to the original beetle nest; instead, they wanted to occupy the current valley and build a new nest.
"Squeak, squeak..." 24K nodded its tiny head.
"So, you're saying that the rocks and vegetation of this place have a large amount of special mineral substance beneficial to their growth. And the reason why the crystal cores of those eight-legged monsters can help them advance their grade is due to these mineral substances?" Feng Luo received yet another message from 24K. After that, he realized one thing. "This means that being able to advance their grade after being born has nothing to do with the Cave Spiders. The key is the land. Even without the Cave Spiders, as long as they build their nest here in this valley, the beetles may still advance their grade."
"Squeak, squeak..." Feng Luo received an affirmative answer from 24K, and naturally, he became even happier.
Although the valley was not all that hidden, on the map, the straight line distance between the valley and the closest location with many players - the Lu Conglomerate City was around ten kilometers.
Since it was deep inside the mountain area, it should be quite safe.
"Then, build it."

After Feng Luo agreed to them building a nest there, the beetles began to move.
The remaining over 50 Collector Beetles started going around looking for rocks and branches. Using their natural talents and abilities, they also dug multiple tunnels underneath the valley.
Over a dozen Scout Beetles spread out on top of the valley as they took turns patrolling the skies, increasing vigilance.
As for the combat beetles, they lazily and casually crawled to a spot to rest or recuperate. It was clearly a division of labor.
After a while, with some of its psionic energy recovered, 24K summoned the rest of its subordinates from the other nest to help out. This increased the total number of beetles inside the valley to over 400.
After the nest building operation had begun for some time, the day had turned into night.
Feng Luo needed at least two hours to get out of the mountain area. The road that he would have to take passed through a primitive jungle, as such, he had decided not to undertake the journey at night, as nights in War were more dangerous than the day.
Even if players were to go offline, most would not choose to do so in a wild area at night.
The wild was volatile and the situation could change at very short notice. It was possible that one might feel safe when going offline on one night, and by the time the player got online the next day, a Level 60 Commander Grade monster would be sleeping right beside him.
However, Feng Luo was not worried this time. He even felt comfortable enough to grab a military tent from his inventory and set it up, before he crawled inside the tent.
There were over 400 beetles defending the place, and more than ten Scout Beetles patrolling the area in turns.
Not to mention a Commander Grade monster, even if a high level solo type Quasi-Boss were to arrive, they would have a fighting chance.
As for a Boss, it wasn't that easy to encounter one.


As an international mercenary, Feng Luo entered a technologically advanced parallel world during a mission.

After living several years in the new world, an online sci-fi game called War became popular across the entire Star Federation.

Desert Eagles, Barrett, AK-47, Apache, RPG... One after another, familiar gears awakened his memories of the past!

Terminator, Zerg, Resident Evil, the Force,... The missions that appeared after a system update made him even more suspicious and shocked! As such, Feng Luo entered War and became a sniper.

Eiro was sitting on the ground looking at the flower that simply wouldn't grow all that much no matter how much of his magic he focused onto it directly. He would have to figure this out sometime later then. What was more important was that he had to get a little bit of practice in with the Nature Element so that he could possibly try and restrain the Collector, or even just trip him up somehow by creating an uneven ground.
Eiro managed to make other things grow pretty easily, like the weeds or the grass, luckily. He was able to control them somewhat, like making them flail around or grow into a spiral, and that seemed like he would be able to at least somehow use this magic already, even if it wasn't actually all that strong yet.
"Should be strong enough..." Eiro muttered quietly as he stood up properly and then cracked his knuckles as he mentally went through all of the information that he had on the Collector while trying to figure out a good way to find out his current location so that he may get the jump on him.
Maybe Bahlsen also figured something out by now, and already knew where the Collector was, so Eiro should check in with him first.
Eiro stretched his wings out and flapped them, quickly flying over toward one of the open windows at the backside of the manor, and climbed right through into the room that was there. Sitting there on the ground was Bavet, who slowly turned his head toward Eiro and just groaned, "Are we really going already?"
"Yes, we are. Stop complaining." Eiro said bluntly and stretched his hand out toward the currently humanoid figure. Bavet stood up from the ground where he was currently reading, and then held the Demon's hands before completely changing and compressing his body into a form that seemed relatively normal.
Bavet wrapped himself around the satchel and basically added onto its outer form, creating something like a large backpack that was hanging off Eiro's back. Like this, they could keep Bavet's slime around, since it would probably end up coming in quite useful.
And on top of that, like this, Bavet could act as another layer of protection for Avalin's blood and Eiro's bone-powder to make sure the small constructions wouldn't randomly break in the satchel.
And then, Eiro jumped away from the window and started to fly immediately toward the direction of town. Up ahead, he was able to see a few dark clouds, so it seemed like it would end up storming later. Eiro heard that there were pretty strong snowstorms around here sometimes, and considering how strong it had been snowing over the last little while anyway, that might end up being the case later as well. 
Actually, that might come in quite useful for Eiro, although he would need to try and heat Bavet up with a bit of fire magic... But through a thick snowstorm, Eiro might be able to send out pulses with his Ice Magic to figure out everything in his direct perimeter immediately. He managed to do something similar with rain before, so it might work out if he concentrated well enough.
Either way, Eiro looked at the town ahead and continued to fly over there at a quick pace. Not too long afterward, he managed to fly over the town gates. 
Luckily, it seemed like the window in Bahlsen's room was open right now, so Eiro quickly picked up his speed a bit more and then wrapped his wings around his body as he shot down, trying to hide himself completely using a bit of shadow magic.
And immediately after Eiro shot through Bahlsen's open window, he spread out his wings. It created a rather strong gust and sent literally all the notes that Bahlsen took over the past little while flying all around in a flurry, but it was still a perfect landing on Eiro's part.
"Ah..." Bahlsen said with a wry smile, "Listen, I'm glad you're here and all, but can't you just take the door..? Now I have to put all of this up again..." The Investigator grumbled to himself, and Eiro took a look around at all the papers.
"It's fine, I got a good look at everything." Eiro pointed out, and Bahlsen looked at him with a frown, "Even if that was possible in that split-second, it doesn't help me figure everything out in the slightest... But come on and help me." 
With a slight sigh at noticing that Bahlsen misunderstood him, Eiro flapped his wings to create a strong gust of wind again, but this time around, he was contolling that wind with air magic. And as the pieces of paper started floating around again, it seemed like Bahlsen finally understood what Eiro was getting at. 
He placed all the pieces of paper roughly back into the position they were in before, and then looked directly at the investigator, "So, what's all of this? It's all just speculation on what the Collector is and where he's from. Is this really going to help us find him?"
"Yes, I think so, at least! It filled up a lot of gaps that I had in my mind, and I think I have a rough idea of an actual victim-profile for the first time! Or at least, I have speculations on what he's looking for in his victims that makes them interesting for him!"
"Well, I guess that would help narrow it down a bit?"
"Certainly so!" Bahlsen exclaimed, "So, as far as my theories go, Bahlsen is a Demi-Lich. As if stuck inbetween Life and Lich-hood, practically. Still an Undead, and an incredibly powerful and dangerous one at that. A Lich's powers and abilities will be a warped version of what they were like during the life of the one that became the Lich. That is not the case with a Demi-Lich just yet. So they have the same vulnerabilities as regular Lichs, but their abilities aren't innately infused with necromantic energies, making it easier for them to blend in with a regular populace. But at the same time, it means their powers aren't much stronger than when they were still living. They probably now have a greater array of abilities, however."
Eiro thought about Bahlsen's words and thought about it for a little while, trying to come up with some kind of tactic, "Good that he's a Demi-Lich and not a regular one, then. A Demi-Lich doesn't have a phylactery, right?"
"Indeed! That is the main difference in the nature of a Demi-Lich and a complete Lich!" The Investigator exclaimed with a weird sense of excitement, and Eiro slowly crossed his arms, "Alright, now that I know what I'm going to fight, what's the 'victim profile' you mentioned?"
"Ah!" With a light smile on his face, the Investigator started to speak, "You see, it's quite simple. As a Monster, you must know what it's like to have a Bane, right? I heard that a monster is innately capable of sensing their bane to an extent. In an Undead's case, that would be the 'Life Element', right? Well, I was already playing around with this idea before, but what if all living beings have some kind of instance of the Life Element in them? Possibly, in a wicked way of showing his superiority, the Collector is trying to take parts of people that have an extremely high amount of this Life Element inside of them to create the 'Dolls' he is making. As if he's trying to say, 'Not even my own bane can hurt me, as I am fully in control of it'." 
Immediately, Eiro crossed his arms in thought. That might actually be possible somehow. Sure, Life Force and the Life Element weren't the same thing, but they were quite similar to each other. He did read about Undead beings in particular having the ability to sense Life in a similar way to how Spirits are able to sense Magic. It might be a far stretch, but if that was the case, then maybe Eiro was able to cause even more damage to the Collector by infusing his attack with his Life Force. It most likely wouldn't act like Life Magic would, but it would probably help him a bit anyway.
Now, at least, Eiro had some good way to actually damage the Collector properly... If he managed to get a hit on him. And for that, Eiro would need to figure out a good way to find someone with high amounts of Life Force in their bodies.
Eiro took a deep breath as he started to think. What exactly caused Life Force to gather in specific places of one's body? If they were especially healthy or if Life Force was being manipulated somehow.
"The woman that was gutted by the Collector, do you know anything about her? Why were her organs taken specifically?"
"That's what I was trying to figure out! I don't exactly know why yet, but I'll-"
"I know." Eiro said bluntly, having a rough idea of why it could be, "I think she was poisoned somehow. There's a specific kind of herb that acts this way. I know a little bit about healing arts and herbology, and there's one specific plant that in the right dosis can increase the natural recovery speed of certain wounds, or help you fight against diseases. The rest of your body suffers under that, however. In the right amounts that's not an issue in the slightest. When we saw her, the woman had especially dirty hands and a strong smell to her. I didn't recognize it then, but I think it was the smell of that herb. It's rather common, so she might have broken into an Apothecary's garden, thinking it was food, and then ate that herb. It has a pretty good smell and taste, actually... She probably poisoned herself with that, Life Force gathered in her internal organs, and the Collector took notice of that." Eiro figured, and the Investigator looked at Eiro rather surprised.
"Oh, how did you figure that out?"
"I literally told you my process. Just because you have a card that increases your ability doesn't mean you're the only one that can make connections like that. Now, if that's the case, then I think I have a good idea on how to set a bit of a trap for the Collector..." The Demon explained with a light smile on his face, hidden by his mask, and the Investigator crossed his arms.
"I see... You want to somehow increase this 'Life Force' in someone and lure the Collector toward that person?" 
"Exactly so. What body parts did he not 'collect' yet?" 


"Bleh." - Imp

An Imp, a monster known to kill with a grin, a demon of the world, a creature of incredible might! Something that no force in the world can stand against! At least that's what the Main Character would like himself to be, the reality is very different, however.

Exactly that Imp stumbles along a path of unfortunate fortunes and grows through it, in a world that hates its very existence.

It grows more intelligent, more powerful, simply better at whatever it needs to do. Amongst other things, that includes raising children, killing Soldiers, and carving wooden figurines for money.
