Closing his eyes to sense for it, he could sense that the wind was coming from the east, which was blocked off by the walls and were coming from behind from.

Retracing his steps and following the trail of energy left behind by the cold wind, he arrived at the spot where the bats were.

There was a majestic bat who stood there looking at his children, he was giving off the terrifying cultivation of a Martial Emperor, a strong animal beast even for this realm.

Nightin stood there and looked at the bat as it turned back, its eyes turned red as it screeched "What did you do to my children!"

Flapping its wings, a huge gust of wind kicked off as the rocks tumbled on the ground, the cave was shaking as a huge wind spiral assaulted him from the front.

Raising his sword to defend it, he shouted "I'm sorry for hurting your children, but shouldn't you at least ask them what happened first?"

Nightin slammed against the wall as blood seeped out of his lips, mustering his strength and circulating his spirit energy to recover, he stood up and said "I don't see myself being in the wrong for acting out of self defense. I have already showed mercy by sparing their lives after they attacked me first, just what else do you want, if I wanted to be merciless, all your children would already be dead!"

This seemed to have snapped the anger bat out of its confusion as it froze there, he lowered his head and said "I'm sorry for attacking you all of a sudden human, but the mirror here has already corrupted my mind. Please save myself and my kind, by controlling the mirror!"

Shit! I'm late! 
DIE! DIE! In mess, I rummage through piles and piles of cloth sprawled all over my bedroom floor. 
Damn it! I'm going to be late.
"SiSi! Lady SiSi! Where are you?!" I yell frantically.
Where the hell she is?
Quickly I run onto the stair and throw myself over the bannister.
"SiSi!" I call out her name again. 
Then I hear the familiar sound of a wooden spoon bashing at the edge of the glass bowl and SiSi come to surface at the bottom of the stairs. She looks up at me with a tired expression.  SiSi and I have been a best friend since we were five years old. She is the neighbour daughter Auntie Wen and Uncle Huo. 
 So since then, we have been playing and gone to school together until now I moved in staying with her temporary. But this apartment belonged to SiSi, she has moved to S city earlier than me after the fallout of her relationship with my brother after my brother went working at B city.
"What?" She asks. 
"My baby key? Have you seen it? I searched everywhere but couldn't find it." I puff at her. 
"Aigooo! Clumsy Lady Bei! They are on the table, you've left over there last night,"  She rolls her eyes while taking herself and take her cake mixture back to her baking kitchen. 
Immediately I dart across the landing in a complete fluster and find my car keys under a magazine. Then I make my way downstairs from the flat above SiSi baking kitchen, finding spooning cake mixture into various bowls. 
"You need to tidy your room Weiwei. It's a fucking mess," she nagged just like the mommy does.
Eventually, I am an interior designer at Deng Tai, one of the top architecture design company in S city. It's true that I spend all day organising and coordinating interior for the client but in reality, organisation skills are pretty shocking to talks.
 Haha... 
Reluctantly, I took one mini cupcake into my mouth from the dining table. 
"Sorry moms, I can't be brilliant at everything," I smirk at her.
Then she put on annoying facial before told me,
 '"Go to work now! She bats my hand away with her spatula before I could take another piece of her cupcake. Why do you use the car today, usually you didn't?" she asks, leaning down to her mixture bowl over, her tongue resting on her bottom lip in concentration.
"Ah, I got my first VVIP consultation to Old Mansion Feng. You know that Old Mansion has been list as the oldest historic mansion in S city. And the noble family living there, and it's out from the city so I need my car to reach there," I feed my belt through the belt loops of my navy pencil dress, slip my feet into my heels and present myself to the wall mirror.
"Oh, so finally miss big city got a very high-end project then, and Nobelist too. Good," she says from behind me.
 I ruffle my long hair for a few seconds, flicking it from one side to other but give up, piling it up with a few grips instead. My hazel brown eyes look tired and lack their usual sparkle, results, no doubt, of burning the candle at both ends.
As I only move in with SiSi a month ago. 
"Usually if historic involvement is my boss things but this time, I don't know how he gives this big mission for me this time," I say before sweeping the wand of my gloss across my lips, smack them together and kiss Sisi on the cheek.
"It's going to be a very long project since I only fluent most in the modern city. Got to go, see you tonight!" I bid her when I realise the time is ticking late.
"Okay, see you later," SiSi laughs, without lifting her face from her mixture bowl.
Despite my lateness, I drive my baby Beetle with my usual care to my office on S city street and after I spend ten minutes driving around looking for a parking space. Finally, I get into the office and glance at the clock on my desk. 
'Nine forty', ohh.
 I'm fifty minutes late, not as bad as I thought.
Then I pass Jing Jing and Old Yue empty desks on the way to my own while spying Xufeng in his office before entering my office room. Unpacking my files and lappy, notice there packaging for me.
"Morning Xiao Wei,"  Xufeng low burst greets me as he perches on the edge of my desk, followed by the customary creak under his weight. 
"Morning, what have you got there Xu Feng Brother?" I asked.
" It's a new fabric from Yuan Silk. Do you like?" He asks.
 I stroke some of the luxurious material.
Wonderful, he feigns interest. 
"Don't let Yuling see it. I've just liquidated most of my assets to fund the new soft furnishings at home," he says worriedly.
Oh, then I give him a sympathetic face. 
"Where is everyone?" I asked.

Arriving at Philip's place, Maria was shocked to see how beautiful his house was in person.
It was a huge mansion painted cyan with a mixture of white. There was a swimming pool at the top and a small water fall in front of the mansion. His compound was at least 20 acres from what she was seeing, but she couldn't sight any human being, only robots moving around doing menial jobs.
His house was built in the outskirts of a forest at the edge of the city.
She could see his huge garage not too far from the mansion and wondered just how many Rides he had in there.
She knew that all this could not have come from detective work alone. Yes they were being paid well but the way his place was built, it would have cost close to a billion dollars if not up to. 
She wondered about his identity, but the problem was that Philip never let anyone know about his background. He was always secretive when it came to his family, even to his friends and no matter how much any one of them tried to investigate secretly they could not find anything out about his background.
In this world, if you couldn't find any information about someone, even after becoming one of the best detectives it meant that the person's background was very powerful, maybe the most powerful, because even the mayor of the city could be investigated.
Getting into the house, Philip took Maria straight to his study.
"Joseph, Construct a holographic image of the city map." Philip instructed,
"{Yes, master Philip}" the AI replied
Philip and Maria sat down while a robot brought them tea. 
Zhooomm! 
The map was displayed in holographic form.
"Pinpoint the locations of the recent crime scenes..." Philip instructed once again and red dots appeared on the map.
Maria immediately understood that Philip was trying to join the locations together to see what shape it was forming and if it could give them a clue.
Just as she thought, Philip gave the order for the AI to join the locations together using lines.
Lines were drawn, connected from one dot to the other to form a shape but it wasn't any known shape. Philip asked for the lines to be drawn in a different ways, several times until it finally formed something meaningful.
"A beak of an eagle?...." Maria asked with uncertainty.
"Joseph construct a full diagram of an eagle on the map, so we can pinpoint possible next target locations...", Philip said immediately they saw the shape it formed.
"Isn't this a little too far fetched... which terrorist organisation or gang would try to do this and give us clues about where they're are attacking next?... what if it's a trap to mislead us?..." Maria asked solemnly, not seeing any sense in the new discovery.
"Even if it's a trap, we have no choice but to willingly enter it.... we don't have any other leads to follow..." Philip replied while checking the possible locations of a next attack.
"We'll have to go to 'John Carlo street' at the edge of the city and rent an apartment there so we can keep an eye on the neighbourhood..." Philip said 
"I heard that that place has poor maintenance because it's at the edge of the city and only the lower class people stay in that area, so how are we going to blend in?.." Maria asked, intrigued about what Philip had in mind.

**********Several hours later **********
In a small apartment at the edge of the city. 
"Mr and Mrs Ahmed, welcome to our neighbourhood.... I'm sure you'll enjoy staying here, since it's your first time in this city as newlyweds.... don't worry everything here is in order and this apartment is sound proof, hehehe... " the landlord kept smiling and winking as he spoke to them.
The newlyweds were none other than Philip and Maria. Philip felt the urge to murder someone as he kept his fake smile on.
'Those old geezers.... how could they do this to me and with this woman for that matter ' Philip thought in his mind.
Before coming here, Philip updated the higher ups on the investigation and they were ordered to observe the neighbourhood as a couple, so that the criminals would not be suspicious of them. 
They later settled down after the talkative landlord had left. The next step now was to get to know their neighbours. Some of the equipment that Philip brought with him were the stealth drones. 
Those drones could go invisible  and tail a person without being noticed. Another one of their features was the fact that they could separate into many smaller forms to spy on more areas.
Philip activated the six that he brought with him and right before their eyes, six became twelve and twelve became twenty four.... but that was not the end, the kept separating till they were one hundred and thirty four. 
Maria had already set up the screens, in which the footage showing inside of their apartment kept dividing and dividing until they got to one hundred and thirty  four.
The drones were now as tiny as a pinky finger.
They dove out of the apartment windows in invisibility mode and the spying began.

By the time night fell Philip went out in black hoodie to blend with the night while Maria stayed in watch the footage that the drones were sending in, they kept their comms on, so that if something came up they would be able to communicate with each other.
Philip jogged across the street, passing buildings by as he kept his eyes peeled for anything suspicious.
It was a residential area so there were only a few tall buildings, while most of the houses were bungalows.
By one in the midnight Philip was still out and there was no sign of anything suspicious.
*sigh*
'I've been reduced to a mere night guard' Philip thought to himself as he kept jogging around and checking out the silent and dark alleyways, with less activity.
After spending the whole night on patrol he returned back to the apartment.
This same routine was repeated for three days straight.
Maria was starting to feel like they were on a wild goose chase but Philip felt that this was just the calm before the storm, he could feel that something serious was about to happen and his instincts had never failed him.

When he was out on the fourth night he carried a dagger made of the strongest metal(Eredium) and custom made pocket pistol with him, which had a range of about two hundred metres and when it was fired, the bullet could pass through steel and bullet proof glass. His weapons were always top notch .
Philip was jogging around and alley way when..... 
*Ahhhhhh!* 
He heard a scream from a corner and ran over, in a few seconds he got to there but the moment he turned around he bumped into a person. 
Gbam! 
They collided.... Philip moved half a step backwards but the other person wasn't so strong and fell to the ground sliding a few centimetres away. 
"Ouch!" Philip heard a feminine voice and looked downwards.
The person happened to be a woman who looked to be in her thirties. 
"Sorry... my bad" Philip apologised as he helped her up, he knew how much force he used when he collided with her and if he didn't  stop himself from slamming into her completely she would have broken some bones.
"Were you the one who screamed?" He asked after helping her up. 
"Ye..s there was a snake over there.." she pointed with her arms trembling.
"Oh... a snake.." Philip said disappointed that he got his hopes up for nothing.
He walked over to where she pointed, a little bit surprised at the fact that a snake could enter the city.
A snake about 3.5metres long with the colour unknown because of the darkness, was crawling around. It saw Philip and started hissing at him while moving in his direction. 
Swoosh! 
The snake lunged at him, but he caught it by the head.
Pop! 
He squeezed it with his bare hand and the head of the snake bursted open.
"Aww.... i got some of it's brain matter on my clothes..." Philip complained while rubbing his hoodie. 
The woman was dumbfounded, but before she could say anything Philip had already left.
Philip kept running around until he got to another two storey building. He looked up and saw one of the lights flickering on and off.
"Maria, check what's going on in there..."
Philip spoke through the comms and waited for Maria's reply. 
"Get in there right now!" Maria shouted on the comms after getting footage from indoors. 
Philip immediately jumped over the fence and landed inside by rolling over.
He ran to the door and started banging it.
Gbam! Gbam! Gbam! Gbam!
"Open up.... I am a detective from the force...open up or I'll be left with no choice but to break this door down..." He kept banging while talking but he didn't get a reply.
"What's going on in there Maria?.." he questioned impatiently.
"I can't explain, just get in there now or this place is going to become the new crime scene...." Maria replied anxiously.
Gbaarr! 
Philip kicked the door with force, and it separated from its hinges immediately flying far into the house.
He didn't even wait for it to land on the floor before he dashed in with vigor and ran upstairs. Maria directed him to the bathroom which was wide open by the time he got there.
Philip entered an was shocked to see what was playing out in front of him.
A woman tying a towel with water dripping from her body was standing in front of the mirror with her hands dropped on both sides of her body, but her there was a red line on her neck which was gradually expanding from one side to the other.
Her throat was being slit but there was no sharp object placed on it.
It was like she was being cut buy an invisible dagger. 
Philip moved over to her and looked at the mirror, only to be shocked again.
Her reflection in the mirror was holding a dagger and cutting her throat, contrary to what she was doing. She looked like she was in a trance as her eyes had a blank stare without expression while her reflection in the mirror was smiling and happily slitting her own throat which was happening to the real her.
Philip held her and started shaking her, trying to wake her from her blank state.
"Hey! wake up..." but he got no reply from her.
He tried severally but was met with the same result.
He didn't want to go near the mirror, afraid of what would happen if he touched it, so he brought out his pistol.
"You have no business being here human!" a deep voice and two large eyes appeared in his mind. 
The sound of the voice was like thunder and the pair of eyes looked like there were staring deep into his soul. Philip was frozen with fear, he tried to move, but it was like as if all his strength had left his body. Cold sweat started forming at his back as he kept struggling to break free from the hold of the voice over his mind.
Aarrrghh! 
Philip screamed out as he got control over his body back. 
Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! 
He shot bullets in quick successions at the mirror, but it was like as if there was a force protecting it.
Only a small crack appeared on it which was fixing itself up quickly. 
"A mere human managed to break free from my mind control? Begone!" the voice appeared again in his mind.
Scrreeeecchhh! 
This time Philip mind felt like it was being broken to pieces as sharp sounds assaulted his mind. 
Aaarrrrggghhh!!!
Philip screamed as he clutched his head in pain. He couldn't do anything but kneel as he tried to fight the pain.
After a while he stood up slowly still clutching his head, but moving forward bit by bit as he tried to get close to the mirror. He knew that if he could just get rid of the mirror the pain would end so even with the pain he kept moving forward.
"Just how much willpower does this human have?.... I must not let him get to the mirror" The voice increased the intensity of the mind intrusion.
Arrggghhhhhh! 
Philip screamed in agony once again but he didn't stop till he got to be mirror.
He lifted the mirror up and then.... 
Swoooohhhhh! 
He disappeared straight into thin air.
Crash!
The mirror crashed onto the ground and broke into several fragments, while the woman that was formerly in front of the mirror fell to the floor unconscious.

The Land Rover headed to the Tijuca National Park. Waldir was driving, and in the overcrowded cabin traveled Teresa, Emil, Marcelo and Amalric, carrying only some light equipment. 

At first they circulated by densely populated areas covered by the ubiquitous favelas, clusters of dwellings built without any order, which covered the foothills. The houses turned gradually scarcer, interspersed with lush greenery that surrounded the whole picture. The streets narrowed down to trilhas or dirt paths and were outlined by tropical plants six and more meters high. 

“ I'm amazed at the size of these plants.” Said Marcelo. “In Buenos Aires we grow them as indoor plants and they usually fit in a medium size pot.” 

“ Well, but this is probably their true habitat and it is logical that here they develop all their possibilities.” Said his wife with a professorial tone. 

They passed through the Corcovado Hill, and they could see the image of Christ the Redeemer silhouetted sharply against the sky. “This is the most representative Rio postcard.” Said Teresa. “Have you been here before?” 

“ Twice, that´s why I love the city and its easy-going ambience, its informality and its friendly and optimistic people.” 

“ Is that why we are no longer the capital of Brazil?” Waldir´s skeptical question sounded more like a statement; he waved his hand and phlegmatically went on. “Rio´s other face is dangerous. In the favelas still remain nest of gangs of drug traffickers and their henchmen, who kill for a handful of Riais. In fact, the authorities recommend not walking along these roads at nightfall.” 

Successive turns in the upward path allowed the travelers to observe the different scenarios that make Rio a unique city; at times they looked up the Corcovado hill and the Christ figure with his arms outstretched; in other corners they could see the Sugarloaf, another icon of the city and finally the south view showed the Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon first, and behind it the neighborhoods of Ipanema and Leblon, with the rocks known as Dos Irmaos as limit. In all the horizons the Guanabara Bay with its shades of blue, and in all directions, a vegetable universe. A world all green and blue that Teresa looked enraptured. 

 

“ Where are we going?” Inquired the woman. 

“ To the north, in what is known as Sector A of the National Park, just called Floresta da Tijuca. It is the most forested part with some impenetrable nooks.” 

“ Can we get to the point we are going to by car?” 

“ No, we have to walk just about one kilometer. I hope the lady will be able to do it.” 

“ Yes, I can still move quite comfortably.” 

 

They finally reached the end of the car road. There they picked up some lightweight backpacks that had been prepared and continued on foot. The jungle was becoming progressively denser; the road was surrounded by a gallery forest that prevented the entry of direct sunlight. Gradually the path itself vanished and the walkers had to go forward dodging fallen trees and boulders. Teresa needed to make some stops every now and then to catch her breath sitting on a rock. In a corner facing south and at a certain distance they saw a large boulder clearly emerging from the surrounding jungle. 

“The Pedra da Gavea” Said Waldir. “It is part of another sector of the National Park. As you can see the profile of the summit resembles a human face, an effect caused by erosion, but this stone has also a strange inscription.” 

“What is it?” Asked Emil, always in search of the bizarre. 

“It’s an engraved granite stone, with some signs that supposedly refer to a king called Badzir, who ruled Phoenicia around 850 BC. But all experts believe the inscription is false, and that it was made around 1800 by order of Emperor Pedro I of Brazil to attribute the origin of this country to remote civilizations.” 

“In this case, Brazil would have been the world´s oldest.” Joked Marcelo. 

At last they arrived at a small size pond lined with trees. Waldir guided them along the shore until reaching a stream that fed the water mirror. They followed its course until an unmistakable sound reached their ears. A minute later they were at the foot of a cheerful waterfall about twelve meters high. They had to circumvent it so that the falling water splashed on them, which was appreciated because at that time the temperature was quite high. 

They climbed the edge of the waterfall to reach a small stony plateau situated quite high, allowing them to observe the landscape in many directions. The terrace had an area of about one acre. 

“ Well, here we are.” Said Waldir. 

“ What is this place?” Asked Emil. 

“ This is our meeting place. It has been used by members of our Confraternity for countless generations. Here we take our communal decisions.” Waldir approached a flat stone in the middle of the plateau. He then scraped some lichen that covered it and certain unmistakable signs were exposed. 

“The classic figure of the two men sharing a horse, with their spears and shields.” Expressed Teresa. “It looks much eroded and many details are lost, but it´s of an undeniable Templar origin.” 

“Our traditions refer these drawings to the founding of the Commandry in Brazil.” Replied Waldir. 

“ Have you explored the surroundings for other vestiges?” Asked Emil. 

“ Many times but as you can see, everything is covered by an impenetrable jungle. We can be two meters away from some relic and still not see it.” 

 

All the members of the small group walked around the flat surface for about half an hour but found nothing of interest. 

“ We have some sort of last resort solution for a situation like this.” Said finally Emil taking the pendulum from his backpack, and handing it over to Teresa. 

“ What is that?” Asked intrigued Waldir. 

“ A tool for divining or dowsing.” 

 

Teresa walked with the cone on her right hand throughout the middle of the plain without notable effects. Then she walked to the edge of the plateau, which descended with a significant slope on nearly all sides. At one point she stopped, but then resumed her way to the point of departure. Without a word she went directly back to where she had stopped on her first tour. There the young woman exposed the pendulum towards the edge, and slight oscillations were noticeable in its loose end. 

“ Here.” Said Teresa pointing is that direction. “I don´t know what it is but there is certainly something in this direction.” 

Then a roar shook the atmosphere. A lightning lit the northern horizon and they all watched as a large dark cloud moved to Rio de Janeiro. 

“ A storm is arriving.” Exclaimed alarmed Waldir. We must leave the forest as soon as possible, as many rays will surely fall.” 

“ And we are in a very exposed place.” Said Emil. 

“ We will return the day after tomorrow, weather permitting.” 

“ It sounds sensible. We can also use tomorrow to meet other members of your community.” Said Emil. 

“ We´ll see.” Answered Waldir.

João said he would communicate with his friend Jango in Peru. He returned half an hour later.
