In the modernized world, there was always an eternal question that every living human experienced at a certain point of their lives. It varied from person to person depending on their financial circumstances and familial background, but nobody was spared from the millennial dilemma that plagued the revolutionized society.
How did one make money?
Depending on the recipient of the question and the perspective, the answers were bound to differ by a large margin. The individual's response was clear and dry-cut, whereas for the modern corporate, there were a few complications.
Accountants and economists disagreed on the details and minor extrapolations of the individual's response, but they were mostly in agreement regarding the general perspective. To make money, and individual was required to perform a conversion of currency, one from a bartering or non-valued method of validation to that of hard, minted currency.
The concept could be interpreted through the example of selling off material objects and antiques for liquidation or cash returns, or offering metaphysical services in exchange for a direct cash recompensation. The process of conversion could be layered indefinitely prior to the final transformation into cash, and as long as the determined value exceeded that of the initial sum, the individual was considered to have "made money."
It was a biased equivalent exchange, of which items of equal true value were interchanged, but the assessed value was slightly biased towards one or the other.
Companies, on the other hand… constantly required money to function, and often more than it generated. Corporate functions, both domestic and external, required a constant supply of funds, from the first step to even the aftermath procedures.
"When it consumes an exorbitant quantity of funds with each passing second, and even recouping one's earnings costs a considerable sum – can companies truly make money?"
Xi Chen uttered a self-deprecating chuckle, and shook his head at the absurdity of the thought. He had witnessed many leap into the fire of modern business with the ideal of raking in a heavenly blessing filled with renminbi, only to burn themselves out of their ancestors' funds upon their first month of incorporation.
Had it not been for a stroke of chance and a well-timed maneuver onto his opportunity, Xi Chen wondered if he could have been labeled as one of the "fools" he had criticized earlier. The youth creased his brows over the question for a brief moment, then shook his head and walked away.
Behind him were the massive iron gates of Jiangbei University's central campus, and before him was the proliferating streets of the actual city.
"Rather… noisy indeed. It really doesn't change regardless of the perspective, ah?"
It wasn't even ten in the morning, but the streets were already filled to the brim with vehicles, angered drivers, and irritated pedestrians. From one end of the street to the other, Xi Chen saw nothing but lanes flooded with a torrent of metallic hoods and their shimmering layers of paint.
It was the legendary 'Jiangbei rush hour' once again, where all of the latecomers to work decided to hightail onto the streets to quickly rush to work and clock in before they could lose their first hour's pay for the day, only to realize that nearly everyone else had the same idea and thinking processes. As such, the traffic during this time of the day was incredibly horrible and worse than that of regular rush hours, yet the people refused to change their habits…
Xi Chen took one last glance at an angered man dressed in an impeccable suit thrusting his middle finger towards the rear windshield of the car before him, and resumed his walk on the sidewalk. He bypassed the alleyways housing all of the hawkers, street vendors, and marketplace stalls, and navigated through a set of intersecting streets until he stood before a decrepit building.
The wooden structures had long since rotted over time, and the listed owner either expressed little interest towards renovating the property, or was unable to do so. Either way, Xi Chen had trespassed the building's boundaries since he was young – not for the building itself, but the small forest behind it.
It was the only stretch of undeveloped land within the vicinity of Jiangbei, and the area was cluttered with trees of various variety. Avoiding the dense clutters of fallen leaves that had broken from their branches far too early, Xi Chen trekked into the conclave of the forest.
Here, he could be guaranteed of little to no surveillance by technology. The dense shroud of leaves, branches, and bark could fragment any transmission signal, disrupting any attempts at delivering a transmission with clarity. It was bad news for the average drone enthusiast or technology-geek, but a treasure boon for Xi Chen.
It was the perfect location to test the capabilities of the bowl of Heaven, without worrying about anyone discovering any peculiarities on his body.
"Keep it simple with the first one, don't try to call for something wild or uncalled for…"
Xi Chen placed down his bag onto the ground and took a deep breath to calm his nerves. With the faint chirping of birds and the rustling of grass accompanying the autumn wind serving as his impetus of meditation, the youth closed his eyes and envisioned the wooden bowl in his mind.

"First attempt, I want <strength>!"
Xi Chen declared each word with determination and resolve, his voice unwavering in the slightest. With his perception directly focused onto the interior of the wooden bowl, he cast his wish into the bottomless depths of Heaven.
The grain of sand scattered from his fingertips, and clattered down the infinite curvature of the bowl until it came to a natural rest next to the base of the pile. Though the individual grains were far too small in size for Xi Chen's eyes to spot the symbolic writing on each one, he instinctively knew that the most recent grain he had cast was that of a Saint.
A wave of elation rushed through his body at the notion of obtaining strength, but quickly ebbed as time passed. As he stared at his spread palms, Xi Chen couldn't help but raise questions in his mind.
"What… exactly is strength?"
His body and sensations clearly felt no different from before the successful casting of the grain, nor did anything change when he randomly swiped his hand or flexed his muscles. Closing his eyes and lapsing back into a more calm, tranquil state, Xi Chen revised the words he had uttered earlier.
His thoughts demanded strength not unlike that of the immortal cultivators described in the fictional wuxia and xianxia novels that had taken the Internet by storm of recent times. The ability he had requested for correlated with their capability of handling objects of mass that far surpassed the capabilities of a human body, and could achieve speeds only achievable by internal-combustion engines.
Through his words, he had requested for strength. The broad description depicted the trait of being physically capable of handling weights of a certain degree, yet there was an alternate description that bordered on increasing the resilience towards physical change…
Could it be that since there were alternate definitions towards the concept, the bowl of Heaven could cast the grain of sand, but no phenomenon actually occurred?
"In that case… I want <physical strength, and physical agility>!"
As he carefully observed the changes in the bowl through his perception, Xi Chen noticed that there wasn't an additional grain of sand pitched towards the bottomless depths. Instead, the grain responsible for his previous call for <strength> flickered with a gleam of violet and golden light, and his heart resonated with the information that a faint change in its characteristics had just occurred.
…and when he moved his arms in a random effort, there wasn't much different, but if he were to direct his attention towards the movem –

"Shit!"
Xi Chen yelped as he witnessed his palm shatter a nearby redwood trunk, scattering wooden shrapnel over his clothes and bag. Withdrawing his hand, he found there to be no injury – not even a bruise – but it was only when he glanced downwards that he realized the scope of destruction wreaked by the single strike.
The tall redwood tree that had once occupied a portion of his peripheral vision had now been obliterated into shards of wood and bark. From the roots and the tips of the leaves, everything had been fragmented into dangerous splinters and shards, and the focal point of impact had disintegrated into a finely ground powder rivaling those produced from professional grinding mills.
That… now... that was physical strength…
"Only, is there a method of controlling it? Since I also called for <physical agility>, then if I were to focus on my movements…"

"No Xuanyuan Sword then. Not even the authors knew what they were imagining when they wrote the words in – pretty laughable, no?"

Ian listened to Mina's opinion and could not help but to agree. The first thing that popped into his mind was that they shared a common belief, and the second was that Zane seemed to be purposefully trying to sabotage him. He kept on adding 'imagine ifs' to the conversation until he eventually got Mina to wholeheartedly agree with his opinion, which made Ian feel the need to add his own set of parameters. 
 
"President Lee, you may be the exception, but after being friends with someone, even if just for a month, you should know at least one thing that will hurt them."
 
"You think you know things about Zane?" He asked, and Mina nodded.
 
"I know that Zane likes people to think he is more promiscuous than he actually is." Zane's eyes widened, he had never told that to Mina, and he was surprised she figured it out on her own. 
 
"What about me? What can you tell about me?" Drax asked.
 
"You don't know how to speak your emotions well, so you show them. You make Mills feel secure by always hugging and kissing her. You want her, and anyone else with eyes, to know that she is important to you."
 
"She is good," Drax said, scooping Mills into another tight hug that made her giggle.
 
"And what about President Lee?" Mills asked, but Mina looked down. 
 
"I would rather not say."
 
"Oh, come on, I am sure he would like to hear it." Mina looked at Drax with raised eyebrows. 
 
"But he may not want his friends to hear it," she replied, making all three men in the room stiffen. It was not what Mina said, but how she said it that let them all know she was talking about Ian's actions toward her.

Back in her room, Mina dug out the phone she had bought, and called Director Porter. The man was excited to hear from her and thanked her for getting all the promotional events scheduled and for securing him a bid for another production. Mina could only smile as she thought that Cylus was once again working to cover for her. She asked for Miss Lisa's number and her boss gave it to her, reminding her that she still needed to tour the studio. 
 
Mina first called Cylus, but it was Vanya who answered his phone. She tried to be pleasant with the woman, who made it her business to point out that Cylus was still showering. Mina did not want or need that mental image, and she could hear the irritation in the woman's voice when she nonchalantly asked Vanya to have Cylus call her back. Mills, who was still in the room, laughed, because she too could hear the woman's annoyance, and Mina briefly explained why Vanya did not like her. 
 
Before calling Miss Lisa, Mina blocked her number, because she did not trust the woman enough to have open lines of communication between them, but she did feel the need to make the call. Lisa answered the phone, not sounding like she was in the best of moods, and Mina opened straight to the point. She told Lisa that they were both suspects for the time being, and she believed that just the way someone had conspired to kidnap them both, that same person may be working to have them killed. 
 
For the first time since they met, Lisa was nothing but attentive and humble while speaking to Mina. She listened to the woman as if she were her only lifeline. Lisa believed that Mina had sway with the president, who had taken a liking to the woman, and as far as she was concerned, she would tightly grip the hand that Mina was extending to her. With the conversation capped, Mills voiced her own opinion on the matter.
 
"Don't worry. I do not trust her. She has even physically assaulted me twice, but you heard the questions I was being asked. Lisa is the prime suspect today, but I will be tomorrow. I am not like her; I don't have a family name to protect me." 
 
"But what if she tries to use the conversation against you?"
 
"Do you think they aren't already listening to everything we say? I can guarantee that my conversations are not just being tracked but recorded as evidence." Mills worked for President Ian Lee, not President Cameron Lee, like Drax. She knew little about the man but Mina's words rang true to her.
 
"But you were on the dancefloor with me."
 
"Which means that whoever spiked that drink wasn't a professional. If they were-"
 
"They would have served the drink while you were at the table" Mills had completed Mina's sentence, then shot out with a question that was seriously bothering her. "Mina, who are you really?"

Lisa was relieved when she found out that both she and Mina were suspected of tampering with the drinks that were served, but instead of using it against the woman, she had no choice but to work with her in figuring out who was trying to frame them. In truth, she had thought about putting something into Mina's drink, but she could not see how it would turn out bad for the woman. Either Ian would have taken Mina home or the President, and Lisa could not see any of those options as a negative. 
 
Even she would have liked to sleep with Cameron Lee, but Lisa did not want him the way she wanted Ian, and she was steadfast in her belief that Ian was going to marry her. He had even hinted at it during her event, and although he had yet to propose, his actions sparked rumor that Lisa was glad she did not have to start herself. It had only been a few days since then, but the Anders Corp was already up-trending, with people trying to make preliminary investments into the company's projects in the hopes that it may open a window for them to one day work with the Lee family. 
 
Even Lisa's studio was doing well, already near to being fully booked for projects up to three months in advance. None of the bookings were long term productions, but it was a hint that the facility was moving in the right direction. The biggest boon for the studio was its editing facility. Not just for photos, but for video as well. Many directors found it convenient in a way that allowed them to test experimental shots without having to wait days to see if their ideas worked or not. 
 
Lisa stepped out of her room, and coincidentally she saw Charlotte standing in the hall, with an odd expression on her face. She may not have liked her, but Lisa was not cruel enough to ignore a clearly distressed pregnant woman. She approached, carefully helping her sister-in-law into her bed before asking her if she needed anything. Charlotte looked perplexed and Lisa pouted.
 
"You know, you and I may not get along, but that baby is still my relative." Charlotte chuckled a little, and then made another face. "Eww, please don't give birth now," Lisa pleaded, making Charlotte laugh loudly.
 
"Its practice contractions. I am thirty-six weeks along now." Lisa blanched.
 
"Why is your belly so small then?" She suddenly felt guilty that she hadn't prepared anything for the new arrival, who could literally show up anytime within the month."
 
"I got lucky. Other women in my birthing classes have tripled in size." Lisa shuddered. When she wanted to have Ian's baby, she had not considered all the changes that would happen to her body, and she wondered if she were truly ready to have a child. "Don't look so happy," Charlotte said sarcastically. "Besides, you are vain enough to work out throughout pregnancy." Lisa laughed, it was an insult, but it was true. There was no way she would let herself go.
 
"I'll take that as a compliment."

Cheers and applause followed the smiling couple as they walked down the carpet of flower petals. Two wind wolves howled in unison as they competed with the roaring of two dragons trying to outdo each other in their way of cheering. James Bone, ex Marine and now a Major with the newly established UN Army held on to his just wedded wife, Kristine Bone.

He wore his uniform with all his medals in display and waved at his friends while his wife dressed in an ivory white dress clutched a bouquet of flowers. Her tummy slightly bugling can be seen under the flowing dress as she threw the bouquet of flowers over her head, a traditional custom hailing from their home planet.

"Congrats!" Mills shook his previous section leader's hand and gave a hug to Kristine before he stepped back and grinned at Kristine's condition and shook his head at James. "Damn... you dog! How many months?"

Bartley also gave James his congratulations and a hug to Kristine too while his two wind wolves, Grey, wearing a bow tie and Sasha, wearing a floral necklace, laid down next to the couple, gnawing away at a giant muffalo thigh bone.

"Two months," Kristine giggled at the expression on her husband's face. "I took off my birth implants... since I wanted him to settle down! Hehe! Nah... its a joke! He didn't know about me being pregnant when he proposed! It was double surprise for him! Hehehe!"

"Oh... man! Good for you!" Mills laughed at James's expense. "You finally found a woman to lock you down!"

James rolled his eyes at Mills's antics and poked a finger at his chest. "How about you?"

He jerked his head to the group of ladies playing around with the bouquet of flowers. "When are you planning to get hitched too?"

"Ehh..." Mills scratched his head and put on a confused expression and looked at Bartley for help. "What? Who?"

"Tsk..." Kristine shook his head at Mills's act. "You can't keep a lady waiting for so long! They are not the elves in our fantasy novels or games! Their life span is the same as us! If you are not going to commit to a relationship, then do not waste the other's time and youth!"

"Ahh..." Mills who was chided, gave a sigh and said. "I know... but... I just do not know how to... propose to her..."

"MEN!" Kristine rolled her eyes like her husband. "You can brave bullets and monsters but the thought of proposing to a girl you like turns you into a coward! Oh, my gods..."

"Hahahha!" Mills gave an embarrassed laugh. "So how did James proposed to you?"

"Yes yes!" A low rumbling voice came from overhead, followed by a shadow blocking out the sun. Blue Thunder leaned over, his breath had a hint of sour cheese. He blinked his dinner plate sized eyes rapidly in anticipation of James answer. "Tell meee!"

Kristine giggled when she saw her husband's face turning red at the question. She reached up and patted the snout of Blue Thunder and said, "Well... He brought me to a fancy restaurant..."

"Oooo!" Blue Thunder thumped his tail excitedly, making the two wind wolves growl in irritation. "Woops sorry! Anyway... Are there candles? A violinist? Or a pianist in the background? Flowers?"

Blue Thunder's eyes were like glittering and he had his tongue sticking out from the side of his jaws in excitement, looking like some kind of gossip reporter. Mills sighed in disappointment at the look of the dragon and whispered to Bartley. "Damn... My ideal impression of dragons has just done and gone down the crapper..."

James cleared his throat and said, "Erm... Mrs. Bone... Why not you entertain the dragons... while I entertain the guys?"

"Ha!" Mills grinned evilly at James. "Trying to get out of this eh?"

James glowered at Mills and lightly dusted his shoulder tabs, "Why... there's dust on my MAJOR rank..."

"Oooh!" Mills glanced at his own uniform rank tabs where he had only the two bars of a full lieutenant. "So you wanna play rank now..."

"Come on, Lieutenant!" James grabbed Mills and Bartley and dragged them off. "I will be right back honey!"

"Hehehe!" Kristine shook her head at the antics of James and his friends before she turned to impatient Blue Thunder. "Now... where were we?"

"CHEERS!"

"Didn't expect you to get married and have a kid at the same time," Mills said as he placed his mug of beer down. "Time... really goes by fast..."

"Yes..." Bartley mumbled in his mug. "Three years already."

"Yea..." James nodded in agreement. "I am already thinking of this place... as... home..."

Bartley nodded as well. "Here... is a good place. Good people, good land and air."

Mills shook his head in disagreement. "Hell... no! I still want to return to earth! Powered toilets, twenty four seven temperature controls, VR entertainment... and the food! God... I missed food from Earth! Even from a slum in the big apple!"

"What about Titanna?" Bartley asked. "Are you going to leave her?"

"I- I probably will bring her back with me..." Mills hesitatedly said. "Hell... I don't know!"

"Hey... This place isn't like back home," James frowned at Mill's words. "They don't have our ideas and cultures of having flings or short term relationships."

"She is a good woman," Bartley added. "Shame for her to meet you."

"What?" Mills glared at Bartley who gave a shrug. "Arghh..."

James looked over to where his wife was entertaining the dragons and the womenfolk with their romance story, including the subject of their topic, Titanna. "Just tell her you love her and marry her."

"And have kids," Bartley added. "Many kids."

"You think making kids is like growing fruits?" Mills rolled his eyes at Bartley. "Besides, from what the Doc has said, us Humans and Elves have a much much lower chance of fertility in making babies."

Bartley raised an eyebrow at Mills's word. "Really? That's sad..."

Mills sighed, "I guess that is why the Captain..."

"Shhh..." James hissed angrily at Mills. "Fucking hell, Mills! You are in public!"

"Oh..." Mills grimaced before he turned to Bartley. "Forget what I just said."

"Hmmm... Okay..." Bartley nodded stoically.

"Mills!" Titanna suddenly appeared beside Mills, clutching a bouquet of flowers. "I just learnt something interesting about the bride!"

"They say that if you caught the bouquet of flowers thrown from the bride, you will be next to get married?" Titanna blushed when finished her sentence.

"Oh... fuck..."

The Isles, Port Sanctuary, UN Naval Base

Commander Ford was tired, he was not only running the Navy but also the work from Captain Blake, managing the entire affairs of the UN. He picked up the proposal from Naval Intel regarding the plans to secure the probe over the planet's orbit.

He flipped through the documents, seeing the costs, time, and resource projection before closing the folder. Captain Blake's staff had filtered as much as possible before sending the important stuff over for him to oversee but still he was overworked.

The idea of a supercarrier proposed by the goblins keeps nagging him at the back of his head, making him unable to concentrate on his work. He admitted that it will be awesome if something the concept works, but he was worried that if all the time, money, and resources were committed to this project and it failed, all the efforts will have gone down the drain and also the lives of thousands of men and women on board the ship.

He knew that on Earth, no one ever designed something of that size despite being able to since there was no need for such a behemoth. As to service should a behemoth will require dock facilities and ports large enough to be able to accommodate its size. Which meant before the unification of Earth, having such a ship will require the countries' allies to upgrade their naval facilities which no country will be willing to do so and furthermore, ships of such sizes will not be able to past through canals and certain straits.

Hence, wet navies on Earth tend to be designed up to a certain size, to accommodate passage through canals and usage of port facilities. And of course, with the constant threat of guided missiles and nukes, such a behemoth was just a big juicy target.

"But here..." Ford mumbled to himself as he reread the report of the 'Super Duper Greg Ship' or SDGS as the goblins been calling it. "It might be feasible."

First, there was no missile tech. Even if they had some kind of rocketry or meteor spell, the six month old AEGIS defence project being developed as a shield against large projectiles and flying creatures was bearing fruit.

The R & D team had taken apart the point defence turrets of the UNS Singapore to study and reproduce them. They had managed to do so, but with lower quality materials since the UN has not yet able to produce certain high tech materials for the unforeseen future.

The prototype Close In Weapon System runs on a dual gun system. Each gun had a six barrel 20 mm gatling cannon powered by an electric motor. It could fire at 2,000 rounds per minute, enabling it to destroy any rapid approaching projectiles or even slow flying monsters, designated by radar or manual controls. It was lucky they had the point defence turrets to study and copy from, if not they would have taken years just to even develop the coding and complex machinery and parts to run the CIWS.

Ford thought of the next advantage of the supercarrier concept, and that was the inability to support a fleet over the End Zone. The End Zone was still a mass of question marks and dangers. If they send a fleet in and somehow they luckily crossed the End Zone, who knows how vast the distances will be. Which means, they need an exploration ship with the ability to be self sufficient, which means they will need a lot of hull space for supplies and fuel, just like a spaceship.

But instead of having oxygen recyclers, they will need food and water for the crew and having them all on board the same ship saves a lot of logistic headaches compared to have dedicated supply ships. Supply ships can be sunk and similarly the supercarrier, but it does not matter if either were sunk since whoever survived will still be alone and out of supply or protection later on.

Ford was worried about the rumours of giant whirlpools and water spurts. But after thinking about it, he wondered if there was a whirlpool that was large enough to suck in a two hundred thousand ton ship. Maybe just to be safe, they should make a three hundred thousand ton ship instead?

"Oh my god..." Ford stood up and stretched himself in the office. "I am getting badly influenced by this!"

"Oh what the hell..." Ford sighed. "Let's do this... We don't have any other ideas to explore either, it's better to do something than nothing!"

He picked up the desk phone and dialled to his Naval HR office, "I want HR to open up recruitment for the Navy."

"Yes... Sailors, techs, mechanics," Ford replied to the HR person on the other side. "Cut off numbers for recruits?"

"Hmmm..." Ford glanced at the SDGS report. "Sev- No... Ten thousand."

"Yes... you heard me right," Ford repeated to the confused HR person over the phone. "I am looking to recruit ten thousand new naval personnel for combat roles!"

After answering a few more details from HR, Ford ended the call and returned the phone back to its cradle. He dug out his budget reports and sighed, needing to amend the year end report now that he started mass recruitment.

"There goes my naval budget for next year..."
