Finally he decided to launch in English language at first . He wondered where to publish it and decided to use 'HR Comics' which was famous globally after shut down of 'Manga Rock' . He created a account named 'Zero' which he thought of using as pen name for comic . 


He shared the internet from his mobile . He then uploaded the files in High Definition . He saw that there was a option to add music in the background while reading . 


He thought about it for a while and decided to use 'Doraemon' theme music here . He knew that , this theme song was also responsible for making anime popular . 

Ye Feng voice was not good so he only recorded whistle sound of the music .

 He then  decided to use System to improve his voice in the future . For an assassin , voice was necessary . Disguise would be imperfect if voice was inflexible .


He was helpless to use System for this matter as practice doesn't change voice quality by much . He wasn't conceited person to think that he could do everything by himself .

This System was quite helpful for something he couldn't do by himself . It was the reason he found System to be Interesting.


He recorded the whistle music and was satisfied to listen to it . He posted the 10 Chapters and the music was set on loop .


He didn't locked the 10 chapters to earn high money from unlocking .

(The opening shows a  full moon that has the title 'The Blue Guardians' on it, then shows Amaya picking flowers, Ayaka with papers flying around her,  Chou holding a computer, and Emi taking pictures.
Then, it switches to a shadow snake attacking Emi's house, Emi has the circle around her, once it appears, Chou, Amaya, and Ayaka appear with their weapons behind Emi.
Chou, Amaya, and Ayaka destroy the monster.
The opening shows Emi holding her heart, her eyes black with a black background and she is falling, a butterfly appears. 
The butterfly passes the school, where Ai writes math equations on the chalkboard, Azumi is checking all students passing through the hallway with a deadly glare, and Daoi is trying a prince outfit in a theater room.
A hand takes Emi's hand and pulls her away, then the camera shows Emi's eyes back to normal, and she sees her friends smiling at her by the house and she runs to them and kisses Daoi on the cheek)

Azumi: Well, I like cookies, but that doesn't mean I will be eating every day.

Emi: Well, that's you not me.

(Daoi wipes some jelly off Emi's face)

Emi (blushed): Thank you.

Daoi: You always eat too fast.

Ai: So, true.

(Azumi laughs)

Emi: Leave me be.

Ai (looks at Emi): Do you really think we should leave Chou, Amaya, and Ayaka at your house.

Emi: I'm not bringing them to school besides they'll be fine.

Azumi: Too bad, I wanted to analyze them more, especially Ayaka, she seems the smartest.

Ai: I find Amaya interesting, this morning I found her in the Flower room.

Daoi: I saw Chou watching some of your BL videos.

Emi: So.

Daoi (with glitter in her eyes): We find it cute, that is doing stuff normal people do.

Ai: Can you call them here? So we can teach them more about being human.

Azumi (looks at Emi): Yeah, it would be great, plus it would be better for them to watch over you closely.

Emi: Fine (her eyes glow, while holding out her hand) Chou, Ayaka, and Amaya appear.

(The camera shows a bright purple star appeared in the sky, then opens, and who come out of it is Chou, Amaya, and Ayaka wearing Emi's school uniform)

Emi (angry): Hey, why are you wearing my uniforms?

Ayaka (holding a book): I sensed that Ai, Daoi, and Azumi wanted us to come to school with them to find out more about us.

Emi: (angry) Next time (takes a deep breath) Next time ask for my permission

Chou: Fine.

Ayaka: I understand.

Amaya: Seems reasonable.

Emi: Great (looks at her friends) Happy now?

(Azumi walks up to Ayaka with stars in her eyes, then turns to Emi)

Emi:(groans) (looks Ayaka) Ayaka, could you let Azumi teach you more stuff about the human world in her way.

Ayaka (looks at Azumi): Of course, besides I would like to know more about these 'books' that you humans created.

Azumi: (eyes glitter up) I know just the place (takes Ayaka's hand and leads her to the school)

Ai (walks up to Amaya and hands her a rose): Here. (Amaya takes it) There are flowers, this kind of flower is called a rose.

Amaya: (sniffs the rose) A rose.

Ai: Let me show you something (Ai gets another Rose from her basket and put the rose in Amaya's hair,  then she shows Amaya a portable mirror) 

(Amaya looks at herself in the mirror with fascination)

Ai: It can be used as accessories (takes Amaya's hand) I can show you more, if you want.

(Amaya looks at Emi)

Emi: Okay, Amaya you can go with Ai, and Chou you can go with Daoi.

Ai (with a smile):Thank you, Emi (running with Amaya to the back of the school)

Daoi: I appreciate this, you want to come with us.

Emi (shrugs her shoulders): Sure, why not I got nothing better to do.

(The camera switches to Ai and Amaya in the garden. Amaya is standing, and Ai is observing the flowers up close)

Ai: Okay, which flower do you want to learn about.

(Amaya points to blue flowers by a shovel)

Ai: Oh! Those are lillies. I find them soothing (takes Amaya's hand and puts on a lily) You can pick one by gently.

(Amaya picks the lily up carefully)

Amaya: Ai, I would like to know more about flowers, what you do with them, what kind of flowers do you know.

(Ai smiles)

Ai (shows Amaya more roses): Well, flowers can be used as a present for family, friends, and people that you love in a romantic.  It can also be a show people like somebody during performances.

Ai (shows Amaya sunflowers): Each flower has a different story, like these ones it's bright like the sun and gives you positive energy. They are called sunflowers.

(Amaya looks at the sunflowers, then Ai shows her daisies, Dandelions,and tulips)

(The camera switches to Daoi taking Chou to an empty art room, where they see a group of teenagers reading manga)

The group (gets up and puts their manga down): Daoi!

Daoi: Hey! Come in Chou.

(Chou walks in slowly)

Chou: Hello.

A girl: You have a new girlfriend.

Daoi: (shocked) What? (leans her shoulder against Chou) You know you would never cheat on my Emi.

A boy: Emi? Why do you want to date her? You two are different from each other.

Daoi (with stars in her eyes): That's not what my heart says.

Chou: Speaking of heart, how does it work?

A girl (laughs): She's kidding, right?

Chou: I'm afraid not.

Daoi: Guys and Girls meet Chou.

Chou: Pleasure to meet you.

(The camera shows a circle with a star in the middle appear over Chou, which amazed everybody by)

A boy: She's an alien.

Chou: I'm from a dimension that's in-between light and darkness.

The group (amazed): Wow!

(The camera switches to Azumi showing Ayaka the library)

(Ayaka's eyes glow, which make ten books appear in Ayaka's arms)

 Azumi (with a smile): Welcome to the library, where you can find the most amazing books 

Ayaka (looking inside a purple book): Tell me do all books have different themes.

Azumi: Yes, they do, you know you seem to learn fast, I didn't know you knew what a theme is.

Ayaka (shows a dictionary): I found out the word from this.

Azumi: Oh! 

Azumi: Impressive 

Ayaka: (looks at Azumi's smile and smiles back) You have a nice smile

(Azumi blushes)

Ayaka: Is it normal for humans to turn red? Or is it inky in these books labeled 'romance'.

Azumi (tries to hide her face): It's normal to blush, you do it, when you feel shy, embarrassed, or flattered

(Ayaka takes notes of what Azumi is saying)

Azumi: Forget that, we are here to help you fit in with regular humans and in order to do that, we need you to find a nice place to practice and this place is perfect.

Ayaka (smiles): I hope you i can learn interesting from you

Azumi: me too

(A person with long blond hair with pink highlights, wearing sunglasses on her head, and a regular school uniform appears and walks up to Azumi)

(Azumi and Ayaka were starting to hit the books, then notice the person by her)

Azumi: Hello, Kamiri

Kamiri (glowing aura) (looking at Ayaka): Who are you?

Ayaka: Who are you?

Kamiri: Kamiri, i'm a classmate of Azumi, we're library friends

(Ayaka looks at Azumi)

Azumi (whispers): Try to shake her hand, it's friendly

(Ayaka gets up, holds out her hand, and shakes Kamiri's hand and smiles)

Ayaka: my name is Ayaka, sorry I didn't mean to be rude, but I'm not used to talking to people

Kamiri: okay, nice  to meet you

Ayaka (fake smiles): you too

Azumi: So, Kamiri, do you need something?

Kamiri: (digs into her bag, gets a book, and gives it to Azumj) Here.

(Azumi eyes lit up and her smile rises)

Kamiri (smiles): I finished it and my friend helped me, hope you like it

Azumi (eyes lit up and still smiling): I will! I will! I will! Thank you!

Ayaka (thought): she makes her smile easily, interesting 

Azumi: (turns to Azumi) (whispers) Sorry, I get overjoyed we will continue my experiment.

Ayaka (whispers): How about she helps you, plus her aura is bothering me, so I can learn to handle people that weird auras or personality 

Azumi (winks) (whispers): Good idea

(Kamiri looks at Azumi and Ayaka whispering, then she notice she is a third wheel)

Ayaka (looks at Kamiri): Sorry, if we made you feel left out, Kamiri, but I can fix that. We're doing an activity together and I need your help

Kamiri (confused): Me?

Ayaka: Yes, can you introduce me to people that you know?

Kamiri (thought): What's she up to?

Kamiri (smiles): Okay.

Ayaka (thought): True, I'm not interested in her, but I want to see how Azumi acts around other people, so this is the best way to get my notes.

(The screen goes to Ai and Amaya, where Amaya is dancing through the garden and then, a girl who has long curly blonde hair, wearing a white school uniform and has a blank expression on her face. Her name is X)

(X runs to Amaya, and observe her closely)

X (smiles): It's nice to meet an alien, which dimension is you from

Amaya: Who are you?

X (poses): My name is Xandria, most people call me X, I'm into the supernatural and the weird, so I did research on all kinds of things.

Amaya (shaking X's hand): Pleasure to meet you

X: You too, but crushing my hand, won't work. I'm immune to that effect

Amaya: Are you human?

X: I am, but doctors did say I have some hidden abilities that normal humans don't.

Amaya: Maybe we could be friends, so I can introduce you to Ayaka

X: Sure, What's with the flowers.

Amaya (smiles, as she holds roses): Aren't they pretty? 

X: You're not used to human life

Amaya: Yeah, is it that obvious?

X: What dimension?

Amaya: It's in-between light and dark

X: So, my prediction was right, why did you come here.

Amaya: that's classified.

X: I'll find out soon enough, bye (walks away)

(The screen goes to Chou and Daoi)

(Daoi shows a manga scene that features two males that are watching the sunset rising and is explaining stuff with passion and has sparkles in her eyes)

Chou: Impressive 

Daoi: What?

Chou: Sorry, it's just you look so cute as you explain that manga.

(Daoi blushes)

Everybody: Daoi blushed!

A girl: Only one person has ever done that.

Daoi (embarrassed): Don't misunderstand. I was just blushing from a compliment from a friend.

Others: sure

Daoi: doesn't matter if you believe me, anyway Chou I have the perfect manga for you.

Chou: which one?

(Daoi leads Chou to a bookshelf that contains many manga, Daoi pulls one of the manga that makes the bookshelf move and behind it is a basement setting that has a carpet, couch, vase, a shelf full of figurines of anime, etc. On a table, there is a manga. Daoi gives the manga to Chou)

Chou: The Boy and the wind.

Daoi: It was the first one I read and I'll bet you will love it.

Chou: Really? I'll give it a chance, but I'll need Ayaka's help.

Daoi: You can't read.

Chou (with a nervous smile): a few words.

Daoi: I'll help.

Chou (smiles): Thank you

(The episode ends with each of the girls with Emi's friend)

"Mah!"
My father called me once again, a little bit louder, but not enough to be heard from outside the living room.

Once I enter the room, my eyes meet the back of my father, staring outside the window. I walk closer, sharing the scene in front of us. The guests are exchanging pleasantries, obviously enjoying themselves.

Some are mingling with other guests. The kids are running around. Some parents are busy feeding the small ones while having conversations with those sitting close to them. I do think that the gathering at weddings can be considered as another type of reunion but with a different theme and with an air of grandeur.
 
Standing here quietly, it looks like a TV scene minus the background music and clear dialogues. They don't have any clue that this wedding ceremony might end early without completion. I shake my head, frustrated at this absurd situation.

What are we going to do now? That question was at the tip of my tongue, but I forced it down. I don't want to trouble my father any more with that kind of question. I just stood there patiently, waiting until he was ready to talk.

A few minutes of heavy silence passes before he turns around and faces me.
" The groom family has already arrived."

I nod, acknowledging his statement. Closing the four fingers of my right hand and raising my thumb, I pinpoint over my shoulder toward the door and raise my eyebrows.
"Yes, they are the ones from the groom family."

So it was the groom family as I thought but, where are the parents?
"With your sister still missing, we only have one choice."
 I nodded again. It's true if the bride is still missing, how can the wedding still continue? It's not easy to cancel the wedding and leave unscathed. Losing face can't be avoided.  

But what is the best way to minimize the damage? I was deep in thought, racking my brain to help my father find the best solution. I'm jumping a little bit when I'm surprised by my father grabbing my shoulder.

"Will you?"
"Will I what?" I asked stupidly.

My father's shoulder sagged down and he gave out a deep long 1,000 years worth kind of sigh. I know right now I'm wearing a distressed expression with his reaction.

"I'm so sorry father, can you repeat it again? From the beginning?"
My father raised his head and granted my request.

"Your sister is still missing"
I nodded a few times.
"We are left with one option."
I nodded again. I agree with you, dad. I know it's not easy to cancel it without losing face. I acknowledge it in my heart. 

"Will you replace your sister?"
My mind came to a screeching halt. I'm probably too tired due to the vigorous exercise earlier. I shake my head a few times to clear my mind.

"Father, the last sentence. Can you repeat it again?
My father answered by punctuating every single word.
"Will.You.Replace.Your.Sister?"
Loud and clear. Yep, I didn't mishear anything. 

"ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME????!!!"

If I said that to my father, I would be totally out of my mind. I'd be literally asking myself to get a beating from my father for being such a rude daughter. So, of course, I rephrase my sentence even though I was flabbergasted when he blurted out that unexpected request.

"Father, are you serious?"

I know my father. He never jokes about a serious matter. Thinking again, he never jokes around his children. In my eyes, he is a very serious but loving person. A patient parent too when handling a scatter-brain daughter like me. 

Apart from that, he never demands anything out of his children's ability. So why now?
Don't panic. Don't panic. I repeated this mantra inside my head.

"Calm down father. This is not a simple matter. What is on your mind, actually?"
I can't read his expression. Is he seriously asking me to do that? Father remained silent while watching me. And my poor mind was playing havoc with my emotions.

If this were shoujo manga, anything would be possible but this is real life. My life.
But if this were a shoujo manga with me as the mangaka (comic artist), of course, there would be certain criteria for the heroine to accept this absurd request.

First. The groom must be very handsome. 
Pass with flying color with a rainbow on the top. All the three guys outside already blew the handsomeness chart level. Especially the one in the middle.

Second. He must be coming from wealth.
Pass, I think. Judging from what I've heard (eavesdropped, to put correctly). But I don't know details. YET. I mean, it's not like I'm materialistic. I'm just being realistic and sarcastic. If I was demanded to follow through this bizarre plan, then I must also counterattack with an absurd requirement. Honestly, if this was my real marriage with the man I loved, who was in love with me as well, wealth would not be an issue.

Third. He must be smart or must possess unique talents.
I don't think any three of the men outside are dumb anyway. Because if they are, this story might end in tragedy. And also, I don't think my sister has poor eyesight when choosing a husband. Who in their right mind, would want to saddle for life with a dumb groom for no reason, and out of blue? His talents? I don't have a single clue.

Fourth. ULTERIOR MOTIVE maybe with additional "s" behind the scene?
What reason do I have to follow through with this? Do I even have one?
It's not like I need someone to cover me up because I'm secretly pregnant out of wedlock. 
Because the main character here, obviously me, (rolling my own eyes) am still a virgin!

Debt? We are having none. House mortgage and car loan have already been settled.
Protection from bad people? Hey, we are not a criminal family or anything related to that. We are the law-abiding family type after all. So what is left?

Between love and duty, which is one a person should choose when it comes to marriage?

But in my story, it's a little bit of both when I enter this new phase of life.
What is the result?  AWKWARD. Yup. Even the big capital letters can't sum up my feelings.

Because it mixes with guilt, making me feel wrong, tense and a little bit giddy when facing my borrowed new handsome husband.

And why is that? It because the groom ended up marrying the bridesmaid when my big sister, the bride, went missing on the day of the wedding ceremony!

Honoka immediatley took out her smartphone as she got back in her apartment and quickly typed her question about the said loli-like woman named Koto via DM on the same chat group app that she had used numerous times now at this point of time.

*Ding!* 

"If I remember right there should be two members that are, why?"

Her question was answered, though Yuuki got the impression that Honoka was investigating someone and adds: "Did you meet one of them somewhere?"

"You could say that... I met someone at my publisher's office earlier when my editor said that I had to attend a meeting and that person claimed that she was part of our chat group."

"Really? A lot of people say that but a lot of them are lying since our chat group is pretty famous. What did she look like?"

"She looked like a middle schoolor with a sailor uniform-styled dress that had oversized sleeves covering both of her hands, she had long curled ginger-colored hair with a braid at the right side of it and... oh, she was also a cat humanoid and had sky blue eyes."


Honoka described in a fully detailed answer.


"Hmm... I don't think I've seen her on the other meetups at the previous doujinshi events..."

Yuuki tried remembering if there was a girl that looked like what Honoka described but couldn't... and then she added: "But there's still one of them that hasn't attended one of the meetups so maybe that's her...."

Could that actually be her...? I guess I'll find out if she goes to one of the future meetups...

Honoka thanked Yuuki and logged out of the app and just fell asleep on her bed with her 
phone still in her hand...

How long was I asleep...?

She woke up soon after feeling confused about how and when she fell asleep, so confused that she totally forgot to finish the last chapter of the new volume of her light novel.

In a panic she immediately stood up and slowly stumbled towards her laptop to start and finish it before the next deadline which was in a few hours time....

Damn.... How could I let myself fall asleep when I haven't finished my work yet?!

She began to start where she left of and finished the story with a cliff hanger and a climax that would probably satisfy her editor once she checked it.

The nervous feeling about the thought of how made her editor would get was only one thing that she got scared of when she first missed a deadline, but another was  her editor not letting her live the publishing office until she had finished...

With her fingers now hurting she sent her finished draft to her editor's email address before turning off her laptop.

That should do it...

Since now was the perfect time for her to check on what had been going on at the chat group she picked up her phone which she had left by her laptop and she had been ignoring since she started writing a little while ago.

A lot of the messages were from Yuuki just talking about random stuff including her plans for future cosplays along with her upcoming trip back to the US to visit her family, while some where just other chat members that Honoka didn't really know at all.... Seemingly new members that had just joined recently.


Along with a privately sent message from Azuki talking about the other details that she had forgotten to mention about the upcoming photoshoot in Kyoto.

Oh, I almost forgot to ask if any costume was fine to wear for the photoshoot...

She had almost just went with the recently just finished costume for the upcoming photoshoot but she suddenly realised that the photoshoot might have some kind of theme and not just a "wear whatever".

She quickly unlocked her phone and typed a message through direct message to Azuki asking about that said topic.

*Ding!*

"It's gonna be a kimono-themed shoot but the character doesn't matter, you can do any character as long as the clothing is a kimono."

Was what Azuki had said.

With her question now answered she now knows what to do when it comes to the theme and character.

She decided to order a long curly blonde-colored wig like a character from a certain game franchise that had begun in the early thousands as a arcade game online via express delivery along with green contact lenses, now all she had to do was wait for a day for the items to be delivered.

Fortunately she already owned a kimono, it was the a antique kimono that you could get during the edo period which she took out of her closet with it well wrapped since she hadn't worn it in years she was now pretty much ready for the photoshoot.

With that out of that now out of the way she went around her apartment and cleaned it since she has nothing to do after she finished her draft and its currently in the review/proof read process.

Like a vacuum cleaner she cleaned every corner had been cleaned and tidied up.

*Ding!*

A new message from Yuuki had just been received.

"The person you talked about is actually a part f the chat group, I just saw her send a selfie of herself with the username "Kokoro"."

"I thought she was just messing with me..."

Honoka who for some reason doubted the ginger-haired artist when she mentioned being a member of it as well now believed that she had told the truth and wasn't just messing with her.

But she told me in a tone that sounded like she was just joking, I didn't expect her to actually be serious about it...

what a small world, i guess...

Her evening was uneventful and she just went to bed after chatting with the other members of the chat group.

But the next day someone unexpected had visited her apartment...

*Ding Dong!*

Somone rang Honoka's apartment's doorbell again but this time it wasn't her editor that did it but Koto.

With her small build the loli-like girl had been standing on her tip toes to just press the button for the doorbell when Honoka had finally answered.

"Koto? How did you know where I lived?"

Honoka couldn't believe her eyes when she saw her standing in front of her door carrying a paperbag with a brown paper envelope inside.

A female immortal around the age of 800 decided to join a chat group for cosplayers that had members that are immortals, vampires, hackers, demons, and many more immortal creatures including some fantasy creatures as members.

But the only problem is she has almost no experience in cosplaying and only has a year of experience and writes light novels as a job so she barely has anytime to work on her costumes.

"Are you done?" 
Ren looked up from his papers and glared. "You know, some people actually finish their homework."
"Sure." Shinobu went back to reading a manga he had borrowed from Ren. They had both accosted an empty classroom after the last bell. 
"Idiot," Ren muttered under his breath and continued ploughing through the questions. A couple of them got him stuck.
He didn't realise how much time had passed until Shinobu stood next to him and leaned over. 
"What are you doing?" Ren questioned. 
"You're taking fucking forever. I want to get out of here."
Ren yelped in protest when Shinobu snatched his pen and scribbled. His watched as a mathematical solution formed on the paper. Listened to Shinobu's voice explaining the steps.
When Shinobu finished and dropped the pen on the desk. "Got it?"
Despite his general hatred for math, Ren did understand. 
Then he exclaimed in shock. "You actually pay attention in class?"
Shinobu shrugged and mumbled in embarrassment. "Sometimes."
"You're so smart!" Ren's eyes widened. "I mean, I know you're smart but-"
"Can we go now?" 
"After you teach me these too?" Ren rummaged through a few books and opened a page.
Shinobu glared at him.
"Please?" Ren smiled winningly.
After a few breaths of some very creative phrases, Shinobu took the book from him.

He opened the locker and sighed as he saw a pastel envelope. 
"Another one?" Izumi teased. 
Ren took out a textbook and the envelope. He took a look at the handwriting. His name written in a very elegant script. The enveloped smelled of lavender.
"This is the second this month," Arai laughed. "I'm so envious!"
Ren had mixed feelings. It was flattering to receive such confessions but the problem was what followed. He would be obliged to meet the person at some designated spot. He would then decline such feelings as politely and gently as he could. What happened next was usually either tears or anger. He counted a total of two girls and a guy this year.
"Aren't you interested in any of them?" Izumi asked as they walked towards class.
"Nope. They don't even know me," Ren replied. In truth, even Arai and Izumi didn't know as much about him as a certain foul-mouthed and sullen individual.
He wondered if Shinobu had any letters in his locker.
Or did his admirers skip that part and went straight for it?
Ren found himself oddly annoyed at the thought.
"You're just too nice to everyone," Arai offered. 
"Or do you have someone in mind?" Izumi speculated.
Ren rolled his eyes. "Why don't you focus on your crush instead?"
That worked as a distraction. Arai turned to Izumi and grinned. "Yeah, how's it going with Miyu?"
Izumi grunted. "Don't remind me. I think she's into someone else."
"Aww, man," Arai patted his back.
"Don't give up yet!" Ren tried to offer some encouragement. 
"Easy for you to say," Izumi huffed. 
"Who do you think she's into?" Arai queried.
"Probably one of the seniors," Izumi let out a long-suffering sigh. "Wait till you guys fall for someone. You'll get it."
Arai shook his head. "Too much trouble."
Ren wouldn't mind the trouble for the right person. Suddenly, he had an unsettling feeling, as if he should know who it was.

He stared at the notebook intensely, trying to decide whether the budget was enough. His class was adamant about putting up the best booth at the school festival since they had a stupid rivalry going on with the class next door. So far, the plan was to have a café. The ideas for the theme then snowballed into the outrageous and extravagant.
Ren really liked working with his friends to put the booth together. He usually had great fun on the day itself and he was really looking forward to it.
If the numbers worked. Frankly, his mother and some of the parents would probably sponsor enough money. That seemed to defeat the purpose though.
"Kid, you've been staring at the page for the last ten minutes."
He looked up to find Shinobu's co-worker, a grizzled middle-age man by the name of Ueno, studying him curiously.
"It's some school stuff," he mumbled embarrassingly and sipped his cold tea.
As usual, he had turned up at the ramen joint at an early hour before the evening crowd. He even had his favourite seat now, at the right corner. They didn't seem to mind him too.
"You're probably a good student, unlike someone here," Ueno laughed.
Shinobu, who had just finished washing some dishes at the sink, ignored the comment and just sauntered over.
"You look stressed," he remarked wryly.
Ren confessed glumly. "The school festival. My class is going crazy trying to outdo the class next door."
"What's the plan?" Shinobu asked, probably out of politeness since Ren knew he didn't care about school activities.
"A café," Ren wanted to sink lower in his seat. "Cakes and stuff. Butler theme."
He could see that the two guys behind the counter were trying their best not to laugh. Ueno finally gave in to a chuckle. Shinobu's expression defined the word amusement.
"You fit the theme, kid," Ueno offered.
"It's not funny," Ren retorted.
Shinobu still had the blasted amused look on his face when he said, "So, what's the problem?" 
Ren explained or rather, whined, "It needs to be perfect. They want fancy decorations, costumes and food but our class rep made a stupid bet with the other class rep that whoever makes the most profit wins. So now I need to make the budget work."
He wondered if Shinobu thought that this was so trivial that it didn't deserve his attention. Maybe he shouldn't care too. However, Ren didn't want to let his classmates down. Even Izumi, Arai and Nozawa had gotten into the competitive spirit.
"It doesn't need to be perfect," Shinobu shrugged. "You'll draw a crowd."
He said it so casually that Ren didn't think he heard the words or inferred their meaning correctly. He hoped he was not blushing. 
Shinobu was going to say something else when a customer walked in. A couple of older women in cosmetics store uniforms.
"Kurosawa! I'm so tired today. Can you get me the usual?"
"Be right there," Shinobu returned and left Ren's side of the counter.
Ueno, who had been observing their exchange, commented astutely. "You know, Kurosawa's right. Look at the two ladies. You think they come here for our ramen?"
Ren watched as the customers tried to flirt with Shinobu. 
"Didn't think you come here for our food too, kid," Ueno added slyly. "Figure you're normally the fancy places type."
That hit Ren hard since it was true. His mother's and aunt Minami's idea of a family dinner was a full-blown course at a private restaurant. His other friends' usual hang out was a hipster café downtown. 
Instead, he found himself gravitating towards this small neighbourhood ramen store on the opposite end of the city from where he lived.
Ren stared at Shinobu again, oblivious and pouring a mug of beer.
"Shit," he blurted out.
"I won't say a word," Ueno ruffled his head sympathetically.

"Why are you always smoking?"
"Because I want to?"
"Can I try?"
"No."
"Why not?" Ren pouted and tried to reach out to Shinobu's packet in his jacket.
He got a big smack in the head instead.
"Hey!" Ren glared. "I'm just curious. You can't seem to live without it."
"Don't even think about it," Shinobu threatened.
Ren grumbled. "Whatever. Doesn't look THAT fun."
"Let's just watch the damn movie," Shinobu sat on the couch. He asked distractedly, "Why aren't you out with your friends anyway?"
Ren opened his mouth and then shut it again. The truth was that he simply wanted to see Shinobu. Which was why he had invited him over to his place on Friday night instead of going to karaoke with his friends. Infatuation knew no logic.
"No one wants to watch the movie with me," he replied instead. What a lie. He didn't even ask. 
"I'm leaving if it's boring," Shinobu muttered.
"You'll like it," Ren told him confidently. They broke out a couple of packets of crisps. Shinobu had brought over free beers from his workplace.  
It was an old subtitled foreign film about a future where humans could be genetically engineered. A man conceived naturally who had fraudulently assumed the identity of a perfectly engineered specimen to achieve his dream of going to space. 
They both made comments here and there but otherwise watched the movie in silence. 
At one point, Ren stole a look at Shinobu. His side profile concentrating on the television screen.
He was incredibly good-looking, in a sharp and sort of dangerous way. A mouth that was usually in a grimace or a cool smirk. All rough edges and yet, beneath it all, someone who could probably hold your soul.
Great, now he was being dramatic.
It must be all the novels he had been reading.
Just then, Shinobu smiled at a scene playing out on the screen. 
Ren's heart gasped.

"You're either nuts or stupid."
"Actually, I'm neither. But you're just being difficult."
"That's what I do, you idiot."
"Well, being sociable is what I do."
Shinobu laughed out loud after a dead beat of silence. Ren was astonished. It was a nice sound, low and almost husky.
Why in the name of god did he think that?

An unexpected encounter drew two students, Ren and Shinobu, to each other. Opposites attract. Friendship ensues. Feelings grow. Will they remain together in spite of their differences?
