It's an abstract but why does it feel the artwork is sad? Whoever made this is probably struggling that day.

Sitting on the cozy seat with a stranger who tattooed me at her tattoo studio near my old apartment, while my eyes keep looking at Lena’s picture in my hand, the weather felt so good, it’s not hot, neither cold. I'm about to go to Rosa’s apartment to see them before I decided to stop my steeps in this nice tattoo studio. Lena and I did a lot of things this year, and we spent our 12 months together every time she’s back in town. 

 

I’m holding Lena’s picture in my hand, admiring her beauty. I took this picture on our trip in Doha and I remembered every single detail time I spent with her. I know that wasn’t a normal trip for me but at least I got a lot of meaningful memories on it. Lena wore a thin, translucent white dress in this picture, accentuating the black bikini that she uses at that time and Sheffa was sitting next to Lena, she's probably admiring her beauty like I was. 

 

“It represents spell and beauty… and appreciating beauty” I say. 

 

“So why did you decide to get it in a spot where you can’t see it?” The woman replies. 

 

“Ah, it’s not for me. It’s for other people” I say as I keep looking at the picture. 

 

“Did she propose you?” The woman asks. 

 

“Yeah, she didn’t say specifically after but it doesn’t matter” I reply. 

 

“You know… she’s so beautiful, if you see her you may fall in love with her…” I laugh softly. 

 

“Yeah, I can see that through the picture...” The woman replies as she keeps doing my tattoo. 

 

“There are a lot of girls in this world, but I choose her over everything because she’s different” I smile as my eyes keep staring at her picture. 

 

“How different she is?” The woman asks. 

 

“I don’t know… it’s hard to explain. Even though if there’s a girl who looks like Megan Fox or Adriana Lima likes me, I’ll choose her over them” I chuckle. 

 

“What’s her name by the way?” The woman asks. 

 

“Oh, she’s Lena. Her name is Lena” I reply. 

 

“She was so busy with her work in this past year, but she’s always had time for me. She took me to many places this year… She took me to Cambodia, Maldives, Swiss, Moscow, Africa, and more places. She even took me to Bali on my birthday this year and visited her mom. I never asked for this but she just gave me everything and we had a lot of fun there, everywhere I wanna go, she’s always taking me to the places” I sigh and smile. 

 

“Oh, and she even gave me this…” I show the woman my bracelet. 

 

“Wow, it’s real shit! And beautiful…” The woman surprises when she saw my priceless diamond bracelet. 

 

“What do you do there? You work with her?” The woman asks. 

 

“Nope, I was there just as a companion” I reply. 

 

“And what did you gave her? She acts as you spell on her” The woman asks. 

 

“Mmm… love, maybe. I didn’t give her anything you know… because she’s already had everything” I explain. 

 

“But I remembered one thing and it’s a hilarious story!” I laugh softly as I remembering the story. 

 

“I gave her a painting, her portrait. I made it by myself, and she really likes it, but we left a lot of laughs at that time” I state as a sweet smile comes through my face. 

 

“So, she sent me her nude picture, like literally naked, without a single thread wrapped on her body. I drew the picture and surprised her on her first month back in town, and now we had the paint displayed in our bedroom” I chuckle. 

 

“Well, girl… she really loves you” The woman shook her head, admiring the story. 

 

“Yeah… she does. And I feel like I’m in a time machine when I spend my time with her. Everything felt like never ends… and when everything ends, we had our way to create the new moment again” I smile, my eyes keep looking at the picture. 

 

“I didn’t spend so much time like I used to with her this year, we only have once a month, but we’re on video calls every time, sleeping like crazy people through the phone every night. It’s kind of strange and cute” I laugh, my mouth form into a sweet smile after as my eyes keep looking at the picture, admiring her beauty. 

 

“What’s her job?” The woman asks. 

 
 

“Hehehe… it’s pretty hard to say, but it doesn’t matter” I chuckle, deciding to not telling the woman the other story. 

 

“So, what’s the point you made this tattoo when you cannot see the beauty?” The woman says. 

 

“Like I'd said, this tattoo is not for me, is for other people, other people who fail to see the beauty even when they are in the most beautiful place on earth, looking at the magic wildlife up close. Just because they don’t have enough money for vacation and watching the wildlife animals on TV, or because they got a little airsickness on the way on the trip” I start. 

 

“And believe me, I get that it’s no fun to barf on the airplane. But you drink some water, you take a nap, and move on. You don’t sit inside for days and mope when the wide field, sun, and life happening outside. You know?” I end. 

 

“Sounds like trouble in paradise” The woman replies. 

 

“Well, it’s trouble in paradise. It’s trouble in Europe and it’s trouble in every place she took me” I roll my eyes. 

 

“Maybe you’re incompatible” The woman says as she keeps doing the tattoo. 

 

“Oh, we’re completely incompatible. We don’t work at all, the entire thing is stupid and we're from a different world. But she’s back today, she says the business more stable right now and she doesn’t have to check on the business regularly and she can work from home” I state. 

 

“But yet you’re here getting a wild cat tattoo on your back to remind her of beauty” The woman says as she shook her head. 

 

“Mmm-hmm… because I love her” I hum. 

 

“And I made this tattoo to surprise her when she’s home” I say, looking at her picture in my hand and smiling. 

 

I sit for hours before I got my tattoo done and I’m pleased because Lena will finally back in town. She called me last night and told me that she will reach Queens this afternoon, and it’s almost 4 PM in here but I haven’t got any messages or calls from her. I bet she will be here at 3 or 4 or maybe 6. I cannot wait to hugs her, because after one year, she finally back in here and not leaving me again. 

 

I can finally wake up next to her, seeing her beautiful bare face every morning she wakes up. Kisses her soft lips and make her smile for the rest of the day. Do silly things with her, cook her for breakfast and dinner, and wears the clothes that she just wore, feeling her smells on me. My phone suddenly rings “Oh, excuse me…” I reach my phone inside my bag and pick up the phone. The tattoo artist cleans my back and off from her seat after. 

 

“Hey, babe… you got here?” I ask through the phone, Lena just called me. “Hey, honey! Yeah, I’m finally right here. Where are you? I’m on my way to Rosa’s apartment now. Are you there?” Lena asks through the phone. “Yeah, I literally only five blocks from the apartment, I’ll be there before you reach the apartment, okay?” I reply. “Alright then, see you!” Lena says. “Bye…” I reply, and I hang up the phone after. 

 

“Is that her?” The woman asks. “Yeah, that was her” I smile. “Well, it’s a lucky day! Your tattoo is perfect” The woman says. I up from the seat and looking at my back in the massive mirror, it’s only a small tattoo near my neck, but it’s perfect. “Wow, it’s beautiful!” I surprise as I’m looking at myself in the mirror. “Thank you so much! I love it” I say in whispers, admiring my new tattoo on my back. “Well, you’re welcome!” The woman replies. 

 

I keep smiling because of the happiness that I got today and I can’t believe that I had Sheffa on my back to remind of Lena’s beauty. Love is like a cheetah, moving fast and not knowing where it will take, as long as there’s something that fills you and makes you strong and I reflected this tattoo for the beauty of Lena. When people say beauty attracts trouble, they were right. And I didn’t deny that. 

 

Beauty attracts trouble, they making someone who loves herself more than anything on earth become someone who loved and addicted to other people. I make my way out of the tattoo studio and stops at the cake shop two blocks near the apartment before I walk to the apartment. I bought some red velvet and chocolate cakes for us, Lena and I will have a family dinner with Rosa and Alison before we back to our house in Whitestone. 

 

“Thank you so much!” I say as I grab the cakes and paid the cakes to the cashier. “You’re welcome! Have a nice day” The cashier man replies. I make my way to the apartment and smiling all the way, reminding of the days I spent with Lena. Today is her birthday, it’s 10th November. People say Scorpio and Gemini do not fit each other, but I didn’t believe that because I believe in the power of love. 

 

It doesn’t matter what star sign you are or what color you are, the most important thing is you love each other and take care of each other. HER MUSIC IS ALREADY PLAYING, feet pad along the carpet as she dances to her favorite playlist. I should get up and join her… nah… I should just watch.
The rising sun casts streams of light over her as she swishes her hips and turns. Her arms reach toward the ceiling, perfectly displaying the two black outlined stars on the front of her shoulder. Her eyes are closed, her long dark hair spilling over her shoulders and down her back. She has a cup of tea in her hand, the one with the Eiffel tower on it and Paris written across it. Pumpkin spice fills the air as she carries her cup back and forth. Her eyes open and smiles when she sees me.
“Morning.” She plops down onto the bed and offers me a cookie.
“Isn’t it too early for sweets?” I ask, as she waves the cookie back and forth in front of me.
“Nope.” Her smile widens “not when you have tea.” She sips her tea. Her reddish-brown lipstick leaves a perfect print of her lips on the rim of the cup.
“You’ve already got your make up on?” I grab my phone and check the time. “It’s only six.” I drop my head back onto the pillow.
“I know.” She nods, “The sun’s up.”
“Sun’s up so you’re up.” I roll my eyes. She always says that. I wrap my arm around her waist and slide her across the bed, just to hold her against me. She giggles, holding her cup steady as she eats her cookie, and everything is perfect. She is perfect.
“I love you, Lana.”  I breathe in her scent and press my face into her back. She’s not floral like perfume. She just smells like Lana.
“I love you, Theo.” She sips her tea, and her fuzzy pajamas are soft against my face.
God, I love this girl. I hold her tighter. I don’t want to let her go when she taps my arm and wiggles to escape my grasp.
“Up, let’s go.” She spanks me.
“Too early for that.” I mumble, pulling the pillow over my head and leaving just enough room to watch her walk out.
“I’ll leave without you.”
“I’m up!” I close my eyes just for one… more… minute...

“Theo!” She snaps, ripping the blanket away from me. “Come on, let’s go.”
“Where?”
She’s already dressed. She dresses like a hipster. Her sweater is striped with black, grey, white, and yellow. Her jeans hug her curves perfectly, leading down to her heeled boots. She’s wearing her favorite black fedora, the one with the smaller brim. She extends a similar fedora to me.
“Match with me today.” She’s smiling. Matching is kind of cheesy, but if it makes her happy, I’ll do it. I’ll do anything to keep her happy.
“Did you pick my clothes out before or after yours?” I eye her from the blankets.
“Come find out.” She sets the hat down and tugs on my arm. “Let’s go.” She pulls on my arm. I sigh but help her drag me out of bed.


The smell of coffee is all I care about as I stir the instant grounds into my own mug. Lana is perched on the make-shift window seat in the corner as she sips on her second cup of tea. I take a seat at the table. It’s too early to be staring directly into the sun, but she loves it. It’s like she’s afraid of missing even a second of the sun.
Her eyes are closed when I look back at her. She’s feeling the sun on her skin, the warmth of the cup in her hand. She appreciates those things. I just appreciate her.
“What time are Alex and Shaina meeting us at the Café?” Lana doesn’t open her eyes, just angles her face the slightest bit towards me.
“Ten.” Her chest rises and falls as she breathes deeply.
“That sounds like we can fit an hour or two nap in before we go.” I suggest, drinking my own morning addiction.
“Or… We could go and explore the area around the Café and then meet up with them.” Her face never loses its relaxed expression.
“Or…we could explore afterward,” I suggest.
“You can take a nap.”
“Just me?” I love her curious nature, but she can be difficult to keep up with.
“I can explore on my own for a bit and meet up with you at the Café with Alex and Shaina.” There’s not a trace of annoyance on her face or in her voice right now. That’s another thing I love about her, she never holds a grudge.
“Fine.” I sigh. “I’ll come with you, but you owe me a donut.”
“I’ve got just enough for a donut.” She smiles, her eyes gliding open to look at me. Her eyes are this super dark brown. They almost look like the same color as her lipstick when the light shines directly on them.
“Alright then, I’m bought.” I take another drink, she goes back to watching the sun rise, and we don’t talk. I love that we don’t need to talk.

“Here here here!” Lana jumps onto the edge of a fountain and hands me her phone “Take a picture of me!” She’s always so excited. I raise the phone as she poses.
“You’re awfully excited about a fountain.” I laugh.
“It’s not just a fountain.” She smiles wide with her mouth open and her leg up, and I take another picture.
“The sun hits here so perfectly.” She raises her arms to the sky, and she spins. She never falls—
how does she never fall?
I take another picture because I want to look at them when I don’t have her next to me.
“Over here!” Lana jumps off the fountain’s edge and sits on a bench. She crosses her legs and holds her arms out in an exaggerated shrug, and I take another picture.
“Sit.” She orders, patting the seat beside her. I do, she wraps her arms around me, and I turn the camera on us. Hanging on my neck and shoulders, she sticks her tongue out and holds out a peace sign. I take another picture.  She smiles at me, and I take another picture. I kiss her, and I take another picture. I love the way her lips feel against mine.
“It’s almost time.” She says against my lips. I pull her into my lap and take another picture.
“They can wait.” I manage not to break our kiss.
“It’s rude to keep people waiting.” She kisses me back and hops off my lap. She’s standing there, and she’s got that look on her face that says she’s feeling impatient.
“Life’s too short for waiting.” She grabs my hand, pulls me up, and we run down the street to the café. I love the way her hand feels around mine.
