The next day, Mirana had her mouth a little bit open for she is shocked that someone actually likes her, like romantically type of like. She stared at the vintage looking envelope with a little bit of fear and excitement in her eyes. She is afraid because maybe the contents of the letter is some sick joke. After a few seconds of staring at the letter Alistair popped out.

"Hey Mimi, I know you very much and I clearly know that you're done with the English assignment. Can I copy that for a sec?" Alistair said shamelessly with a wide grin on his face. "Yeah, I'm done with it Genie. Don't you ever make a single crumple on this beautifully written essay." She said seriously while handing out the paper. "Oh thank you Mimi, you're such a dear." Alistair pinched her cheeks.

Something peeked out Alistair's attention.

"Wait? Oh my gosh! Is that a love letter?" He let out an exciting shriek.

"Yeah, someone left this but-" Mirana was cut off by Alistair. "But what? Duh, it's just a letter open it. Just regret later."

Mirana opened the letter to find herself aweing in happiness. It was a love poem. It was clearly handwritten and it was scented too. Smelled like coffee and dry ink. It was lovely. As she read the poem, she felt all the giddy butterflies inside blossoming.

"Oooh, someone is very happy." Alistair said motioning his eyebrows up and down. "Damn, this guy must really like you for writing that letter. Wait let's check whether it's some poem found in the internet." The last statement made Mirana slap Alistair's arm playfully. As Alistair is searching, Mirana saw at the bottom back part of the letter a code was written. It was composed of periods and dashes. Then it clicked, it was Morse code. She'll figure out that one later.

"Hey! I'm very sure that he made it himself seriously, don't crush my fantasy in finally receiving a love poem for the first time."

"Kudos to the guy, it's not in the internet. Besides why do you act like this is your first time receiving something like that?" Alistair pointed a finger at her. "I know you aren't the famous, famous but as far as I can remember you received some gifts from other guys too you know."

"I know, but none of those compare to this." She held the letter with awe. "Besides, it was like three or four guys?"

"What do you mean three or four? It was more than 10 guys. Though, I guess you are right. Those men are ain't shit to this letter. A good part of them were assholes who refused to you rejecting them."

The bell rang loudly through the halls. Mirana and Alistair made their way to the classroom for first period. As they entered, Johann is staring blankly at the window, probably waiting for them.

"Good morning Johann." Mirana greeted happily. The love poem really put her in a good mood.

"Oh good morning Mira, Alistair." The trio are seated by each other. Mirana in the middle Alistair and Johann. "You seem very happy today? Something good happen?" Johann asked.

Before Mirana could answer, Alistair answered for her. "Someone apparently left a love poem for her. And some flowers too. Seriously, how did the guy figure out Mimi loves chrysanthemums?" Johann couldn't believe what he was hearing. Someone left a love poem for Mirana? He looked at Mirana and her whole face is bright red. Johann felt himself somewhat jealous. Maybe it was the fact that he finally have a friend and the only friend he has is going to spend more time with the love interest rather than with him.

"Genie! Stop it please." Mirana felt so embarrassed. Alistair wasn't supposed to tell Johann that. Before Mirana could ever speak any further the teacher came inside and class started. Johann had a new agenda in mind – not that it concerned Mirana and Alistair though. It probably will in the long run.

'Let's concentrate on class. Not like I have the right to be jealous or anything.' Johann shrugged then sighed. 'Have no right huh?'

It was three weeks since Mirana received the love poem. Mirana didn't know how to reply nor who the person was. Maybe she was just a passing thought. The person just needed to let her know or some reason in order to move on or something. That part saddened her. Just being an afterthought. However, she did acknowledge the fact that maybe just maybe, she could meet the person who gave the love poem. Give the guy a thank you and bid farewell then.

"Whoops, no letter today huh?" Alistair asked. "Yeah, just as I thought though. It was just something the guy has to do for moving on or something, I don't know." Alistair laughed. "Moving on? Bullshit. If he wanted to move on then he phrased his love poem wrong." Johann joined the conversation.

"Yeah, Alistair is right. If he did it to move on from you then he shouldn't have left an initial of his name at the bottom back part of the letter." It was the letter J.

"Do you recall meeting someone that has a letter J in their name?" he queried.

"No, no one, how 'bout you Genie? Have someone?" Mirana asked her best friend.

"Hmmm, so far the people we both met doesn't have a J in their name of course, other than you Johann." Alistair clarified.

Johann just nodded and continued reading. They are inside the library to finish the homework the English teacher gave them.

"Let's just focus in finishing this assignment. Hey Genie, after this let's go to the bookstore. I wanna check out new books today." Alistair hummed in agreement. "You can come to Johann if you like."

Johann rubbed his nape and nodded. "Ah, okay. Thanks for inviting me."

'Now let's focus, Johann.' He reminded himself. For in fact, he is happy he can finally spend time with Mirana outside of campus. Learning something new about her made him lightened up his mood.

'Good thing, the guy who left the love poem is gone now.' Or so he thought.




Classes are over and Mirana, Alistair and Johann headed to the bookstore and they all agreed to go. Maybe visit an art shop after that. James hurried to get inside the car parked for him. He is sad, disappointed and anxious.

"It's been three weeks! Why isn't she replying? Is it because the poem is bad? Is it the stationary? Was it really so awful? Maybe Mirana threw it away!" James ruffled his hair in frustration. "No James! Let's be positive about this." He slapped both of his cheeks. "Maybe she just needed time, yeah, that's it. She needed time to collect her thoughts." He sighed in relief. "Of course she needed time, why didn't I think of that?"

"Sir James, maybe she just doesn't know how to reply or maybe where to place her reply. Did you state where she could put her reply? Or where you could meet?" Jack, his driver, asked.

"Jack, repeat that will you?"

"Did you state where she could put her reply? Or where you could m-" James punched his seat in anger. No wonder Mirana wasn't able to respond. He forgot to mention how she could reply to him. He was worried for nothing.

"Sir James, please calm down! Maybe she is just busy you know? Busy, with academics, yes?" Jack tried to coax his master to calm down. 'Let's calm him down before I lose my job.' Jack was sweating heavily.

After a few good minutes of releasing his anger while Jack is trying to calm his nerves down, James finally inhaled and exhaled deeply. James just couldn't believe how stupid he was. He was so busy writing the poem itself, he forgot how mention how Mirana could respond.

"Jack because of your genius idea, you need a promotion." Jack beamed. "Re-really sir? A-a promotion? Me?!" James nodded. "Yes you, I mean who else?"

"You just made me realize that I forgot to mention how she could reply to me."

"Oh."

"Yeah, even someone like me gets to be stupidly blind in love."




"Tobias, honey how was school?" Tobias's stepmother asked. "It was fine mom as you expected it would be." Tobias smiled but behind his smile he hated when his stepmother interacted with him. She may appear like a saint but she is an absolute nightmare. She only acts like that when his father is home. Wouldn't want to destroy her gold-digging image.

'I wish you could just die, get the hell out of our lives. This bitch thinks she could replace mom? Never. Not in a million years she's not.' Tobias thought darkly. He wanted to leave, like right now.

"Can I be excused mother? I need to study and prepare myself for tomorrow's school activity." He lied through his teeth. There was no school activity he just need to get out.

"Of course, you are excused but be sure to eat dinner with us okay?" His stepmother sent a threatening glare. 'The audacity of this bitch, why I ought to shove your face down the drain.'

Tobias bowed and looked back leaving a snarling comment. "Don't worry mother, I will join you. We wouldn't want to drop father hints that you're fucking another man and I knew it, yes?" With that he left with a triumphant smile on his.

'I'll show you, I'll show all of you.' 




How can her eyes shine so brightly like that?  Somehow it feels like home to me. All of these places can't compare to the sincerity she has given me. I must have it.

As she listened to Chen Xinlu's words, Feng Tianlan frowned slightly. "The Demon King likes Princess Zhao Yang?"
Wasn't Princess Zhao Yang really Sister Lin?
Upon seeing Feng Tianlan frown, Chen Xinlu thought she had hit a nerve, and started gloating. "The Demon King went to the palace in person to send the letter to Princess Zhao Yang. It's a secret love poem."
With that, she started reciting the poem out loud, "Smug and mirthful countenance, dark eyes gaze at the distance. Why is there sorrow over star-crossed love when everything is crystal clear in the palace."
Upon hearing this poem, Feng Tianlan couldn't help but let out a soft laugh. "It really seems like a love poem."
"It's a nuanced love poem. Lin is the surname of Princess Zhaoyang, and this poem praises Princess Zhaoyang for her beauty. Because she is separated from him by the palace wall, he feels sorrow, so he wants to get away from the palace and elope with the princess." Chen Xinlu explained the meaning of this poem, then said to Feng Tianlan mockingly, "It's obvious you aren't well educated since you can't even comprehend such a beautiful yet easy to understand love poem."
Feng Tianlan glanced at Chen Xinlu indifferently with a smile.
She wrote this poem with Sister Lin when she was a child. Dai and Lin referred to her and Sister Lin. The wording was originally "Me Dai and Lin", but Sister Lin didn't like how it sounded, so she changed the wording.
This poem was nowhere nearly as meaningful as Chen Xinlu made it out to be, and was completely playful in nature. They wanted to put both of their names in one poem to express how despite not being biological sisters, their relationship was as intimate as blood sisters.
Now, this poem of sisterhood was made out to be a love poem, so how could she not laugh.
"So, don't even think about marrying the Demon King. And you dare claim that you're Demon King's fiancée? If others exposed your lie, they would tell you how shameless you are." What a big fat joke.
Feng Tianlan simply laughed. No one knew about this poem except her and Sister Lin, so she had included this poem in her letter as a will, and in the letter she told her not to marry Shen Yunya.
Mobai brought this letter to the Xuantian Continent and sent it to Sister Lin.
Yet she never expected someone to treat it as Mobai's love poem to Sister Lin. How ludicrous!
Shi Yiqing simply thought it was Feng Tianlan seeking bittersweet joy amidst sorrow, and he comforted her gently, "Lady Feng should stop saying such a thing. If you're heard, the joke itself is a trivial matter, but if the Demon King hears of it, someone could die."
Even in the Western Yuan Kingdom, he had heard of how terrifying the Demon King was.
Feng Tianlan didn't explain herself anymore. It was unnecessary to explain when they were already convinced of their assumptions.
Perhaps it was because she said that Si Mobai was her fiancé, so Chen Xinlu felt that she was delusional and wanted to take advantage of her beauty to rise in stature. Because Chen Xinlu thought Feng Tianlan probably wasn't interested in Shi Yiqing, so she was less hostile towards her besides calling her a toad from time to time.
Chen Xinlu, who was in a much better mood, held Shi Yiqing's arm and said coquettishly, "Brother Qing, I want to eat red-tailed chicken."
"You've already let it go, yet now you want to eat it?" Shi Yiqing glared at her, then asked Feng Tianlan, "Would Lady Feng like to eat it? It wouldn't be too late to grab one now."
"No," Feng Tianlan refused indifferently.
"Brother Qing, what she wants to eat is swan meat. How could she reduce her beauty by eating red-tailed chicken." Chen Xinlu sized up Feng Tianlan. "But with her status, a lowly Dark Supreme doesn't deserve to eat red-tailed chicken."
Feng Tianlan glanced at her, then curled her lips saying, "Go, White Cutie-pie."


"Ride this, my beloved consort!" Instantly rewarded with a punch in his charming face. He looked hurt, "I just wanted you to try out the mythical beast mount!"

Grand Princess Mansion
The Canton Princess was seated at the dressing table, and was concentrating on drawing her painting.
"Stop playing around Xiao Yun." The Canton Princess eyes were wide open. She knew that the young serving maid Xiao Yun enjoyed teasing her and playing with her. The Canton Princess extended a hand to push her away, without looking up.
The little Canton Princess pushed the person, and yet she didn’t budge. She then spoke irritably, "Aiya, I already guessed that it’s you, and you still wish to bother me. Be careful that I tell my mother about how you’ve been disturbing me, and you shall have to be spanked for that."
The little Canton Princess pushed her away harder this time. When she looked up, she noticed that it was her mother, the Grand Princess.
So her mother had come to tease and play with her. The Canton Princess was taken aback. She hurriedly bowed her head in reverence, "So your Excellency Mother is here!"
"You silly fellow, why would you greet your own mother with so much formalities?" The Grand Princess pressed a finger to her forehead and pushed gently.
"Mother, that hurts." The little Canton Princess pouted and clutched her forehead.
"You little silly, I didn’t even use much strength, why would you feel pain?" The Grand Princess pretended to be angry as she spoke.
"Mother I was only pulling your leg." The Canton Princess tugged on her mother’s arm as she spoke.
The Grand Princess looked at her daughter behaving so endearingly, and could not help but let out a laugh. She then looked over her daughter’s shoulder to see the drawing which she had been so conscientious about. She was drawing a pair of ducks frolicking lovingly in the pond, like a couple. Their necks were entwined lovingly.
When the Grand Princess saw the drawing, she let out a huge sigh, "You ah, you still haven’t managed to forget about him?"
As she spoke, her expression turned to one of sorrow. She had coaxed and advised her own daughter countless times, and yet it seemed like her heart had still been captivated by him.
"No mother, that’s not true. I was just drawing some ducks. You’re reading too much into this matter. Ever since that day he left on the boat, I haven’t thought of him at all. Why do you have to come and counsel me again?" The little Canton Princess brushed her aside.
"You are my flesh and blood. I raised you up myself since you were a tiny thing, do you not think I know you inside out?" The Grand Princess inched closer and grabbed her daughter’s face by the chin and spoke.
"Look at you, you’ve lost so much weight over the past couple of months. Just looking at you makes mother’s heart ache." The Grand Princess gazed into her daughter’s eyes as she spoke.
"Mother, stop teasing me." The Canton Princess was starting to feel upset again and hurriedly said to her mother.
"Recently, I’ve obtained a poem written by him." The Grand Princess retrieved a scroll from her robes. 
"Mother, let me see!" Hearing this piece of information, the Canton Princess’s eyes lit up at once.
 She eagerly reached out a hand and read the poem composed.
When she read the part ‘Suffering brings out tears in the vast sea, that under the moonlight glowed like pearls’, she started choking with tears, as if she was the subject of the poem. Tears started to well up within her eyes.
"All emotions have become memories, what could not will never be, forever gone are the old times."
"Did he write this to his childhood sweetheart? Does he mean he that he wished to break up with her?" The Canton Princess looked up at her mother and asked, her eyes were full of hope and expectation. The poem was describing how a pair of lovers had met their expiration date and could not longer see each other. It also expressed the sorrow of how they felt.
When the Grand Princess looked at her daughter, she spoke out, "I know what you’re feeling deep down, and I know what you’re thinking. But this poem wasn’t written for his lover. It was composed for the aunt of her lover. It’s been rumored that her aunt was an extremely picky person, and so Pei Zi Yun wrote this poem to antagonize her."
"Hm, he’s such a good person, what reason does she have to be picky?" When the Canton Princess heard this, she broke free from her mother’s embrace and stood up. Her expression was somewhat unstable.
"Didn’t you say you’ve forgotten him? Your tongue is loose, and just a little prodding, and you’ve revealed everything." The Grand Princess spoke out, she was frowning. Her own daughter had only met this person a few times, and yet her feelings for him ran deep. How could this ever be something good?
"Mother what happened after that? Tell me." The Canton Princess started pushing her mother’s hips in endearment.
"Soon after, the aunt of his lover permitted them to be together, and stopped picking on him." 
"When the Emperor heard about this matter, he remained speechless for a long time." When the Canton Princess heard this, she burst out in a fit of giggles.
She remained giggling for some time before regaining her composure. Looking into her mother’s eyes, she asked, "Mother, are you here today to tease me? You have never agreed to help me whenever I wanted to find out more about him. Why have you told me this piece of news today? Are you trying to make me stop thinking about him?"
"You’re getting thinner everyday. And my heart is aching for you." The Grand Princess pulled the Canton Princess into her embrace, "He has someone whom he loves, and he has his own life. You have never really made an impression on him. No matter how much you think of him, he wouldn’t ever know of it anyway."
"Mother, stop speaking. You’re making me extremely upset." The Canton Princess started weeping, and couldn’t hold back the tears that streamed down her face. It could be because she hasn’t slept properly in a long while, or it could also be that this piece of news brought her a great sense of happiness for him, and yet was a sad piece of news for her. She cried for some time before eventually falling asleep.
Seeing her daughter asleep in her arms, the Grand Princess and the old serving maid gently placed her atop a bed.
"The next few days, I want you to prepare some nourishing and replenishing food for her. And talk to her more, spend more time with her, do you hear me?" The Grand Princess started shouting loudly, her face was extremely fierce as she spoke to the serving maids.
"Yes, your Highness Grand Princess." The serving maids fell to the ground and started trembling after they had responded.
Within the room, the Canton Princess opened her eyes, She then stood up and retrieved the drawing of Pei Zi Yun which she had drawn some days back. She looked at his face, as her eyes welled up with tears. She was not careful, and allowed a teardrop to stain her painting, and blurred the contours of his face. When she saw this, she starting weeping silently.
When the Grand Princess turned around the corner, she was holding a letter, which she handed over to the female official beside her. "Hand this poem over to Count Zhong Qing, let him read it and see what he thinks and says."
"Yes, your Highness Grand Princess." The female official received the poem and turned around towards the Count’s mansion to deliver it.
"Grand Princess, why did you have to bring up the matter once more? The Canton Princess was already heartbroken. To be so upset for so long is extremely bad on her health." The old serving maid who was following the Grand Princess asked.
The Canton Princess had been raised by this old serving maid. Before the Emperor had rebelled to take over the entire dynasty, they had been familiar neighbours. She had a deep attachment toward this family. At this point, seeing how the Canton Princess was often so upset, she was worried and sad too.
When the Grand Princess heard this, a look of pity and helplessness flickered past her eyes. "Temporary pain is better than long term pain. Although it was good for Pei Zi Yun that the Crown Prince wishes to bestow him with a title, this might not necessarily be a good thing for Pei Zi Yun. It seems like this person is doomed. When the day comes and my daughter hears the news, I wouldn’t know how to break it to her. At this point, if I can get her to give up her hopes, it would be better for everyone in the future."
"If Pei Zi Yun ends up surviving this time until the Crown Prince ascends to the throne, he would be greatly rewarded for his work and might receive an official title. Then, they might end up together."
"For better or for worse, she has to get rid of her feelings for him."
"Ai, as for the affairs of the royal household, so what if you know of it? There’s nothing anyone can do about it. Do not speak of this." The Grand Princess sighed before walking off.
"Yes, your Highness Grand Princess, this old subject understands." The old serving maid responded.
Count Zhong Qing’s Mansion
"Is Count Zhong Qing in?" The woman official got off outside the mansion and asked.
"You are?" The gates of the mansion opened and a man stepped out and bowed.
"I am a woman official belonging to the Grand Princess’s mansion. She had ordered me to deliver this here." The woman official showed the tile which was hanging from her waist before handing the letter over. The man hurriedly checked the tile to see if it was authentic before receiving the letter and delivering it in.
Within the Count’s mansion, the faint sound of someone playing the flute could be heard. This person seemed to know of the Count’s exact location. He hurriedly ran past the garden and through the spiralled corridors. When he looked across, he saw a water pavilion which had white marble tiles on it. Under the huge willow tree was a stone table and bench.
"Master Count, a woman official from the Grand Princess’s mansion delivered this letter." The man stepped forward and handed the letter over.
The Count who was feeding the goldfishes in the pond looked up, his eyebrows were raised. He then asked curiously, "Isn’t the Grand Princess doing fine, why has she sent a letter?"
Count Zhong Qin received the letter and read it once.
"Coincidentally, this zither has fifty strings, each string, each fret reminds me of a year that has gone by."
He then read the entire poem once more. Count Zhong Qin whose eyebrows were raised seem to be critiquing the poem. When he finished the poem, he read the words written enclosed on top, which said that this poem had been written by Pei Zi Yun. He had composed this after the Sect Leader of True Element Sect caused him so problems. When finished writing, he sighed, "Each string each fret reminds me of a year that had gone by. There hasn’t been a single day which I don’t think of what happened between us. Indeed, I’ve let Su Yue down."
These words were strange and caused the man to be confused.
"Master? Did the Grand Princess write something important? You seem somewhat troubled?" The butler asked after seeing his master react so strangely to this matter.
"It’s nothing much. Just that the Grand Princess sent this poem over, and caused me some grief after reading this." Count Zhong Qin answered after hearing the question.
"Master Count, who wrote the poem? Just listening to you read it out made me realize how impressive it was. Won’t master Count give it some critique?" The butler tried to make some small talk.
"There’s no need." Count Zhong Qin replied this way, his tone was final and clear. When the butler heard this, he still felt strange about the whole matter. On a normal day his master Count enjoyed reading poems. Of late, a scholar named Pei Zi Yun had been composing fantastic poems, which his master had been collecting and reading. Why had he reacted this way after reading the poem?
The butler stood at his side, somewhat worried, and yet didn’t dare to ask further.
'King Lu is enraged. He had sent a special group of highly trained soldiers after him. This man is a dead man walking. There’s no need to critique his poem. Although I wonder what’s the intention of the Grand Princess for sending this poem to me?' Count Zhong Qin thought to himself.
'Could it be as simple as to make fun as me?'
'Hang on, unless the Grand Princess still harbours a glimmer of hope? Could it be that she feels Pei Zi Yun stands a chance against King Lu, and is able to hold out and survive until the Crown Prince ascends to his throne?'
Count Zhong Qin had a sudden inspiration, as thoughts came into his head. He then burst out in laughter. He was a Count of the country and thus knew a great deal about military and war affairs.
